[Q] NO 4g lte using straight talk att sim - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, i got my z3 today love it , coming from htc one m7 , using same SS sim had to cut it to micro worked right away , but the only difference is on my htc using same settings i got 4g the whole time on z3 just h and h+ i did the auto internet as well and it gave same setting pretty much i had before , any help advice would be great , thanks in advance
btw it works fine just no 4g emblem

it works ok
You have to update the Mobile settings to LTE/WCDMA/GSM. If there is an LTE signal in the area it will catch it. I am also using the straight talk AT&T model SIM, which I cut to size myself.

Did the HTC show 4G or 4G LTE? 4G = H+, 4G LTE = LTE.

it only showed 4g on the htc one , my wife has a motorola x and it shows 4g , so maybe being i have the older att sim card for ss it only will get h+ = 4g ? but on the sony it shows up h+ instead of 4g like the other phones mentioned? thats weird ,, the reason i have not uprgraded my card to the newer tfdata tracefone att sims for ss is i heard they monitor your data more ? is this true ? if nothing changes but signal speed then i will buy the new sim card for my phone ? also my other question is if i do get newer sim for my phone will my account and all stay the same or will i have to let them know i got a new sim card ?
right now when i do a speed test i get ping 86 download 6.71 mbps upload 1.24 mbps when on my wife its off the charts in the 40 to 45 mbps range , lmk will this get better and what will i see as a change ? i have had this sim so long now im scare i will mess up a good thing lol
thanks in advance

I can't say for sure if its the SIM, mine is about a year and a half old when I chopped it up and I do get it. If you do get LTE some of the time then I would think it may be the SIM as you suggested or simply the way that your phone receives the signal. Why not try another SIM, are you sure that you have setup your mobile settings

I think you misunderstood.
Phones sold in the US by AT&T and T-Mobile show "4G" when they are on HSPA+. Unlocked international phones tend to show the correct "H+" indicator however. If you have an AT&T HTC One, and it is showing 4G, you are on HSPA+, so the equivalent on a international Z3 will be H+. If the HTC One is showing "4G LTE" then you should see LTE on the Sony.

Yes but it doesn't matter. You're still on HSPA+ with both phones, but the HTC will show 4G and the Sony will show H+. When the HTC is showing 4G, go into phone status and it will say HSPA+

hi, the other guy up top showed his att sim ss card is the newer version so im thinking if i changed i would get a faster speed anyway , do u know what your speeds are doing the speedtest? and is yours the same phone? btw my card is the way older version which some say stick with till it dies because they monitor the new ones more for data , i have never had anyone or anything cut me off for my data as of now 3 yrs plus

Most likely won't make a difference. The SIM just authenticates you on the network. Regardless of how old your SIM is, if AT&T wants to see your activity, they can see everything.

i read that the lte isnt recongnized on the older att.mvno, so it will only cost me 7 bucks to get teh new nano sim att ss card , i may as well give it a shot if it gets me stronger signal lol

wow i have been missing out on speeds from 4glte ,, so i did what i said and ordered me a nano sim att card from straight talk btw right now they are $.99 free overnight shipping untill dec. 19th ,, anyway i got it , then i called SS a very nice lady said no problem and that my card was indeed not the same card it was on the old 4g or less data , so we set this puppy up in about 10 mins on the phone and in 30 mins my old sim went dead as she said it would then i installed the new card rebooted my phone and voila it was working but then i setup the app from ss she mentioned in google play for free and did as it said for setting up internet and mms messaging and yes it is the tfdata tracfone one and rebooted and bamm i had lte and i ran a speed test and i got 45 mbps versus 6.15 mbps and 28 mpbs vs. 1.05 mbps so yes she is fast like my wifi , i hope this helps others
IF U HAVE A CARD WITH CINGULAR SETUP IT IS THE OLD CARD SO JUST BUY THE NEW SIM FOR 4GLTE AND U WILL BE GOOD TO GO
btw thanks for all who tried to help , really appreciate it

Not true. SIM profiles will change and when you upgrade to a new data network the older SIM may not have the full profile and can't get it via SIM OTA.

you guys do realize that ATT is marketing their 4G, when its actually only HSPA+?
also, you seem to think that the SIM card is going to need to be changed for '4G' speeds? why? the only thing that needs to change for '4G' is the hardware has to support it.
SIMS cards do need to be changed from time to time because of types of services or network upgrades.
Older SIM cards may still work but that doesnt mean you will always get full network/sevice potential.
There is good reading outside of XDA about this if you search a little, and ignore the junk search results

What's this then:
http://www.bgr.com/2010/10/21/att-starts-switching-to-lte-compatible-sim-cards/
Cingular changed their UICC profile (SIM) in 2005 when they introduced ISIM and USIM profiles to support 3G. Now to support LTE, they've introduced... wait for it... a new SIM! OMG!!!!
BTW, LTE unlike HSPA+ uses a totally different core called EPC and thus has a different APN and several other new profile settings.
BTW, BTW, APN is typically a device driven setting and NOT a UICC setting. There's a difference.

you think these devices are capable of LTE?!
seriously guys, ATT's 4G network is nothing more than 3.5G.....its not a real 4G network. All of the info I have found coming from ATT techs has been that there is no real difference between 4G and 3G SIM cards....

I know what HSPA+ is...
Anyway, AT&T shipped me a new SIM when I received my Atrix 4G. Not really sure if it's necessary but AT&T did that.
BTW, as far as I know a GPRS/EDGE SIM cannot do WCDMA on a WCDMA network.

At&t One X with T-mobile

I have seen many threads saying you need a 50.01 micro sim for the one x to work on tmobile. I haven't seen threads with any info since about july... Does this still apply with the at&t one x? I have a micro sim with 50.05 and was thinking of buying an unlocked at&t one x.
Never heard of such a thing. An unlocked hox will work on tmobile for voice and edge data. In select areas 3G will also work, but this is dependent on tmobile and where they're testing out new spectrum.

I just sim-unlocked my at&t one x and I'm on T-Mobile but I already have an galaxy s3 with the micro sim card. And I'll tell you the data speed flys.
Well I have a Hox running T-Mobile network in LA . And for the last three months my data speed's are blazingly fast . And it isn't unheard of as long as you get the right micro SIM . And yes I get 3g speeds at home and away from home I get 4g all day long and it fast as lightning and I have the original one x S720e quad core

I think if you live in a non-refarmed area, you can't use the normal tmobile apn settings. I had the same problem with gba sim but if you switch the apn to wap.tzones.com instead of epc.tmobile.com the phone works on edge data just fine.

I don't know if you can get 3g speeds with that apn, I just know it allowed me to get data with my new tmobile sim. I had no data access at all using the epc.tmobile.com apn last night and this morning.
Ok I understand. Good fix for someone to try if other options fail

well i used the epc apn and my data signal fluctuations would be unbearable - full lte to no data at all. the tzones apn seems to be a bit more stable

[Q] Razr HD XT925 not connecting to LTE

I just bought a Fido Razr HD for connecting to Rogers network. To my surprise, I was able to connect to Rogers even though it is a Fido phone. Never the less, I paid and got the phone sim unlocked. But I noticed that my Razr never connect to LTE. It always shows it connected as H+, which I assume to be the HSPA+ network. I verfied the following:
-Rogers LTE APN for mobile - checked this against entries posted here on XDA for Rogers
-Network select set to GSM/HSPA/LTE (Auto)
I do get a strange error every time i change from another sim back to my Rogers's one, it says something like no suitable network -15, something like that. I assume my problem has to do with it being a Fido rom working on Rogers.
Am I missing something really obvious?
Thanks,

Have you tried configuring phone according to SIM?.. Configuring it according to sim will load Rogers ROM on it and it will install all Rogers crapware along on it. But i think if you don't see the LTE , it is worth trying. Also make sure your area have LTE coverage.

Yes I have already converted to crap Rogers bloatware rom. It does that automatically when you put in a Rogers sim. Now I got bloatware and still no LTE. My Rogers work iPhone is happily LTE'ing at like 20 mbps, this one is only doing 5 mbps, booo.

hmmm.. okay.. do one thing.. Go to setting and then mobile networks and Select network.. make sure GSM/HSPA/LTE (Auto Mode) is selected. Secondly, Remove the sim and restart the phone and then re-insert the sim and see if it works. If still it don't. Simplay factory reset it and check.
Just here to share my experience because I had a similar problem too.
I'm with fido carrier and got the razr hd with fido (in futureshop) which sucks.
Anyways long story short, same thing happened to me it kept on staying on H+ which I did speed test is only around 2-5 average...mostly 2max.
So I went in LOTS troubles finding out what's wrong and GUESS WHAT when I get the phone and the micro sim card with the sales HE SAID it IS LTE supported (because there are two different micro sim cards....one supports LTE and one doesn't)
Then I went through all troubles and finally had to talk to on of the representatives ONLINE and tell them to send me a LTE micro sim card.
For my fido sim card it does say LTE on it but don't trust the people you call you gotta force them to send you an LTE micro sim card because I called LOTS times to fido and some say on there should be LTE labelled on the micro sim and some say don't know and some say it shouldn't which pisses me off a lot until I did the ONLINE chat and they finally send me the LTE micro sim card and it works....
But one thing is don't expect to have LTE everywhere in Vancouver because as for now, I know I get LTE more in burnaby like near metro (but not in metro hahah...sometimes not always) and not a lot places in Richmond as for downtown not too sure because I went there 2-3 times only got H+ but I don't go there often.
At least i know LTE works which is the main point so I guess after all you have done, make make make sure your micro sim is LTE compatible.
P.S. for fido the LTE is included when I sign the contract so no charge to me for them to send me one but I'm not sure about rogers.
Hope this helps more or less.

Hey everyone, thanks for all the responses. Just prior to reading this thread, i came to the same conclusion that this is sim related as I put my micro sim into my girlfriend's LTE phone, it can only go up to HSPAP. I realized that it must be sim based. I was cheap and just cut down my old sim, i assume my old one did not support LTE on Rogers. And with this response I am 80% sure this is the problem. I will go pay 10 buck and enjoy blazing LTE tomorrow!!!
Thanks all!!

Oh they just letting you know....which I didn't say because it was a super long story that's why I briefly said it....somehow DO check if your rogers micro sim card says LTE or not on it because what I left out and didn't easy earlier was that I went to buy a micro sim card at the store and I asked for micro sim card...and at last they still only give me a regular micro sim card that's why I kept on confused if it does say LTE on it and went online chat to complain what happened. So double triple make sure or if you know someone in rogers store then it'll be good too. Because after I got the fake LTE they kept on saying on maybe because the tower delay wait for a day or two some said and some said few hours but guess what! when fido mailed me the LTE card the LTE works RIGHT AWAY....so ya...find a way to make sure the card is LTE micro.

Need Help with AT&T simultaneous voice and data

Hey guys.. I just got my Xperia Z3 D6603 in the mail today and I can't get simultaneous voice and data working at the same time. Here is a little back story.
I owned a AT&T Note 3 up until about a month ago when I got my OnePlus One. So I removed the Sim from my Note 3 and it worked find in my OnePlus One. Since the Z3 takes a nano sim, I cut my sim card with a sim cutter. I put it into my phone and it appears everything is working fine since the Z3 has the ability to download the APN settings. However when I make a call, the 4G symbol changes to H+ and I can't use data while on a call. Does anyone know how I can fix this? Can someone with a AT&T sim try this on your Z3?

Sorry but I have heard weird things before about cut Sim Cards and one of those things is exactly as you described. So, if everything else (meaning APN settings) are fine, then your best bet is to get a new Nano Sim from AT&T.

Yea that was my next course of action. I'll head up to AT&T today and get a new sim and see if that resolves the issue. I assume yours works just fine?

I'm with T-Mobile, but yes, with the new Nano I bought from them and the correct APN everything works as expected.

One more thing, I just saw this on other thread, so take it in consideration, just in case.
<<D6603 and D6633 will support AT&T LTE. Whatever you do, do not give AT&T your updated IMEI or their system will register it as "unknown" device and you will get 3G only.>>
Direct Link here.
Thanks guys. Headed to the ATT store now to get a new sim. I will make sure they dont get the IMEI of the Z3
Update...
Just got back from the AT&T store. I got a new nano sim card and we left the IMEI settings for the Note 3. I can now do simultaneous voice and data at the same time except I still I lose the 4G symbol and it goes to H+ like it did before. I did do a speed test and it is slower. I'm getting about 13mb down on 4G and about 6mb down on H+. So i think something is still not correct. We did check the APN settings and they look fine. Any other suggestions?
This may be normal. I guess my other phones never switched symbols but it was probably happening in the background
I have a d6603 as well using a nano sim from AT&T. I get data with voice but i only get H+ and not LTE speeds. Is anyone else seeing this or is it normal

How often are you using data while in a phone call? Sorry I just don't understand while only having access to 6Mbps is really a problem. Still a pretty decent speed IMO.
I'm using a cut sim card in mine and it seems to be working fine.
I got 48Mbps download on LTE other day...

I am not complaining and i rarely use data while on call except if i am put on hold or something. Just wanted to see if anyone else has seen this and fixed it.
I'm not complaining either since data speeds seem fine. My initial issue was that I did not know if this was normal. My Oneplus and Note 3 do not change to H+ or anything but that could be that the software is not changing it but it is still only working as H+ while on a call. It wasn't something I'm used to and wasn't normal for me. Which is why I thought there might be a configuration issue somewhere

ATT does not support voice over LTE yet, which is why the data symbol changes.
Previous phones did not show this in order to make you believe you were still on LTE.

Your post is a little old...I just came across it. So you want your phone to do Voice over LTE(VoLTE)? If yes, I know the T-Mobile branded Z3 has that option in the call settings, but the unlocked D6603 doesn't seem to have it.

AT&T APN Settings for UK Version used in US

I have the UK Version, trying to use it in the US on AT&T. If I did my research correctly, the phone can support 3 out of AT&T's 4 lte bands, but I'm only getting the H and H+ icon. I know that in the UK, the 4g icon means lte, but I'm pretty sure that H and H+ mean HSPA and HSPA+, not LTE. Is there anybody in a similar situation that is able to get 4g? And if so, do you mind posting your APN settings, or the steps that you took to enable 4g on the phone?
Mine shows 4G/4G+ (which is LTE).... The only bummer here's that it's super low where I live. I know my previous OP3T got higher service bars but right now I'm fine because I use WiFi 99% of the time. The settings I use are for the ATT PRODATA apn (you could just search for those settings on Google) and the phone also set to 4G preferred under mobile network settings. Hope that helps

Is your IMEI on your AT&T account your XZP one? If so, that's your problem. I went through that already. I had support switch it to my Pixel and instantly got LTE on my XZP.

I wonder why that's the case. My previous phone was an unlocked verizon lg g3, which didn't have all the lte bands on the phone. I'll have to try w a friend's sim or something and see I get lte then. That's the only way I know to test this.
Who knows? I have the G8142 model. Perhaps they weren't a fan of it. I was on AT&T years ago with my OPO and Nexus 5 and had no problems (signed with Nexus 5 IMEI). I switched to Fi then until a few weeks ago when I switched back.
I spent days trying different APNs and toggling data connections. I couldn't get anything. I even tried putting the sim back in Pixel and couldn't get LTE. I found a thread from years ago on AT&T's website about a guy having the same issue. I did the chat support on their website and asked they guy to switch my IMEI and gave him my Pixel one. I restarted both phones and got LTE and both of them almost immediately after he did it (while still in chat).

I just found my old at&t g3. If I ask them to change the imei on the account to this one, will they do it, or should I play dumb and just act like the imei is wrong and ask them to check it?

I told the chat dude that I couldn't get LTE and I was pretty sure it was because my IMEI wasn't an official AT&T phone. He said that was probably why and I asked if he could switch the IMEI for me and he said yes, then I gave him the new one.
You could always say something along the lines of your phone breaking and just need to switch to an older phone for the time being, then ask if they can change the IMEI.

I just had them switch it back to my G3, you were right in that they thought for some reason it was a 2g phone, the rep confirmed that AT&T is now sending data on their end, but I'm still not getting it on my end. Would you mind posting your preferred network type, and apn settings?

Not a problem. Glad it worked! :good:
Does LTE not show up in the status bar for you? I have the international model as well and LTE often shows above the signal in the status bar. I also still have my Z5P, I factory reset the device and had a different AT&T sim added to my account and put in and there was no connection. One of the reps added APN settings and it started working, but it only shows H,H+,4G, or 4G+ and not LTE. I don't have it with me right now so I can't check the differences between the settings right now.

If you have the G8141, when it displays 4G/4G+, it means you're connected to LTE. This threw me off at first too because I'm not used to seeing that.

I don't think there are differences like that between the two models, I have the G8142 and LTE shows very often above the status bar. It sounds like your APN settings may not have been correct during the provisioning process.

So far from what I'm seeing around here on the forums, the G8142 does actually show LTE whereas the G8141 shows 4G rather than LTE. You can actually verify this by downloading the app Cellmapper which will show you which towers you're connected to, which frequency band you're using and which connection type you're using.
Trust me, I went through this process already because everyone with the UK model (like me) shows 4G and everyone with the Dual SIM shows LTE. Another forum member explained to me that this is because of market differences in the UK being that they don't advertise LTE but rather only 4G (which is actually more accurate with regards to the connection type).

4G and LTE are the same thing internationally. Some regions on Sony firmware call LTE by different names- for example the Nordic firmware calls it 4G while central Europe 1 calls it LTE.

Ya, ignore what I said earlier about the APN settings, I fixed them but LTE is not showing up in my Z5P, it's still only 4G/4G+. I originally thought that I had the Central Europe ROM on the Z5P but I did a factory reset and it seems to be something else based on the default language, but I can't figure out which one it is. Anyway another difference I see between the XZP ROMs is that the US ROM has more signal bars than the one on my XZP, can someone let me know how to find what ROM I have since the build number is the same for each of them it seems?

Sounds like you have the UK ROM. Mine does both of the things you mention. Usually only 2 bars and shows 4G/4G+ when I'm connected to LTE. However, the signal bars thing may actually be due to poor signal because in some areas around where I live, I will actually get full bars of 4G/4G+
Sent from my G8141 using Tapatalk
If the UK ROM does not show LTE it's not the one that I have. I was saying LTE shows up on my XZP but not my Z5P, I think my Z5P was from Taiwan but I'm not sure, I bought it on Amazon. My wife has the US XZP and that's the one I was comparing the amount of signal bars with. I would still like to know how to actually view what region firmware is installed though, I haven't found a good answer anywhere yet.
