I'm not saying for notification sounds only for receiving calls via hangout is there any way to choose your own custom ringtones ? I'm trying to change the hangout dialer incoming sound

Have you checked your SD's Ringtones folder?
There are hangouts_incoming_call.ogg and hangouts_message.ogg

I've deleted the hangouts_incoming_calls.ogg but when I get the incoming call it's still the same ringtone. Am I doing something wrong?

I think what he meant was replace that file with a ringtone you would like to use. Try that.
If not, my guess would be to decompile Hangouts and change it manually. :/

Have you tried changing Hangouts->Settings->yourgmailaccount->Video Calls (in the notifications part of settings)?

Notification tones

Anyone else have issues with zedge notification tones not sticking? I have one I downloaded selected but when I get an email or text a default system one plays. Any ideas?

You have to manually set those by going into each and apply it in their settings. Like for the text, open up messages, click menu and go into settings and change the tone all the way at the bottom of the menu. Same applies for the email

That worked, thanks man.

That's odd. My boss has an infuse and he doesn't have to set them each manually. He's able to just set his notification tone in either sedge or in settings and it works for texts and email.

Happened to me too. I set the one in settings, but it only worked for general notifications, not text. That one I had to go the setting in the message app itself, which I thought was weird.
But then I thought about it and it makes sense. If you want to have multiple sounds for different types of notifications.

Htcringtonetrimmer

Looking at /system/app/ there's an app called htcringtonetrimmer, obviously for cutting ringtones, but actualy, there's no such app or option, I could find. Any suggestions?

There's a ringtone widget, but just selects the phone ringtone. And should be able to trim...

When you select a song from your music gallery and select set as ringtone, then you get the option to trim the ringtone. This option opens the ringtone trimmer app

Remove Voicemail app from phone

Hey all, does anybody know the location of the apk for the Verizon Voicemail app? I was able to remove all the bloatware that I wanted, but I couldn't find where the voicemail app is. I tried searching for "voicemail" and "vvm" using root explorer, but it didn't find it.
/system/priv-app/VVM.apk

Thanks, but it isn't there. The icon still shows up in my app drawer.
Don't know what to say then. I've got it froze in titanium backup and that's the path it shows for it.
So I decided to load Viper and found the VVM.apk where you said it was and was able to remove it. Thanks, still not sure why the stock ROM wouldn't remove the icon though.
Check out my thread on getting Verizon visual voicemail to work!

I think it stays because its tied into the messages app... If you scroll right in the messages app there is a voicemail tab... Possibly whatever base viper is on doesn't have vvm tied into messages?

Right and you risk breaking bubble count notifications if you remove it too.

Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA Free mobile app

I'm pretty sure that setting controls all popups but I don't use hangouts. In messages, click more to get options. Then click on notifications. There are settings behind it

With HeadsOff lollipop heads-up notifications can now be disabled!
No root needed.
You can also restore the ticker text in the statusbar!
Give it a try:
Download from Playstore

What about preventing text messages from turning the screen on every time one comes in? Any idea how to get do that?
If you rooted you can edit csc files to do that

Notification tones

Ok my question is, can I change the little stupid (ding dong) notification sound on the gear s2 4g tmibile version watch.? Like maybe with a sound from zedge or any notification sound I have on my phone. You can use the gear app on your phone to transfer pics and ? tracks but is there a file manager app or any way to change the notification sounds? Thx.
I'm looking for a way to change this as well. I figured out how to change the default ringtone, now I want to change the notification settings. Anyone?

How does one change the default ringtone to one's own sound file? Can you provide the DIY steps?

Haven't figured out how to do that, only change the ringtone using the ringtones included with the device.
