Remove Voicemail app from phone - Verizon HTC One (M8)

Hey all, does anybody know the location of the apk for the Verizon Voicemail app? I was able to remove all the bloatware that I wanted, but I couldn't find where the voicemail app is. I tried searching for "voicemail" and "vvm" using root explorer, but it didn't find it.

/system/priv-app/VVM.apk

Thanks, but it isn't there. The icon still shows up in my app drawer.

Don't know what to say then. I've got it froze in titanium backup and that's the path it shows for it.

So I decided to load Viper and found the VVM.apk where you said it was and was able to remove it. Thanks, still not sure why the stock ROM wouldn't remove the icon though.

Check out my thread on getting Verizon visual voicemail to work!

I think it stays because its tied into the messages app... If you scroll right in the messages app there is a voicemail tab... Possibly whatever base viper is on doesn't have vvm tied into messages?

Right and you risk breaking bubble count notifications if you remove it too.

I got the file from deck at ppcgeeks, thanks were given to deck. I separated the GAPPS file and put it on a link of it own to make it easy for whoever wants to download it.

No, but if you use hancent or an alternate sms app, you can blacklist the text message. I must say eventhough they blacklist I get them from time to time.
Make sure you stop the notifications on the stock app if you decide to use another sms app.

Download the link above. You will then get your voicemails but you will also get the 9016 text messages.
Add 9016 to your contacts
Down load Redlist and any other SMS app(ie Handcent)....you will now be using a 3rd party messaging app. If you don't want to do that, you should abandon ship right here. I personally am not sure I will go this route because of this....I have reasons....
Redlist the 9016 contact(I blacklisted it too...dunno the difference)
Disable the stock messaging app notification(you have to do that anyway or you would get double notifications)
Even with this set up, you will STILL get a red dot in the notification bar indicating a redlisted contact is contacting you. So you must go into the Redlist settings and disable any notifications.
There ya have it. A major PIA(IMHO) to enjoy the perceived benefits of an AOSP ROM!(maybe this is endemic to GB AOSP ROMs only???)

fyi, google voice is an official option now. or you can be smart and install youmail from the market, no 9016 messages, handles your voicemail and has ALL kinds of neat features most every "voicemail" sevice would charge for, but they include it for free. this may just be the first helpful post i've evar made.

[MOD]CM9 Alpha 5 hide voicemail notification

Seems like some of us are stuck with these persistent voicemail notifications when we aren't on a touchwiz rom. CM7 let you hide these but CM9 does not.
Until a more official solution comes along this mod simply patches framework-res.apk to use a 1x1 transparent png in place of the standard notification.
Thanks goes to [s89281b, || Acer ||] from the cm9 thread for suggesting removing this icon or blacking it out. I tried removing but that caused the phone app to force close which led me to use a transparent image which should look fine for most situations.

I don't actually think you need to wipe anything for this to work but it never hurts to wipe cache and dalvik cache. Also make a backup before flashing this.
Thanks to tbob18 for putting together a script to auto kill your phone app at boot up. Combine his script with my mod and you have a completely automated solution for dismissing that pesky notification.

Theoretically the program Autostart (Root) would be a great way to combine these two mods into one cwm flashable zip but it seems the app app does not work on ICS... And every time I tried to do it with preconfiguring script manager, it always force closed :/
I will keep looking into combining these two mods as I would love to make it a little easier.
Also thanks to a454nova for pointing out that if you force stop the phone app it will remove the notification and the icon until you reboot. I still like having icon modded to be clear so action isn't required after a reboot until you want to remove the notification.
Oh and I am not responsible for anything... at all... ever... unless it was good, that stuff is all my fault.
Yeah I forgot to mention if somethings missing it won't work properly

Yes, the notification will remain. Like you said its the status bar icon that bugs me the most as well.
Hmm, this might make me more willing to use CM9, however I've been hearing a lot of people are having battery issues. It's great that we have a temporary fix though and I'll be sure to use this method in updated versions.
I'm wondering if it's possible to locate the "Hide VM Notifications" feature in CM7, and try to port it over ourselves? I don't really have the experience, but it would be pretty helpful and would get rid of the notification in the dropdown menu as well.
Go into Titanium Backup, backup and uninstall the phone app. (I backed up the "Voicemail" [Phone 4.0.3...] and deleted it)
this will clear the voice mail anything...
restore the app and your good!
mine is gone, my brothers came back after he restarted. He just did it again and hasn't had an issue.

That's not the type of notification this mod addresses. On non android phones your voicemail notification comes from a specially formatted text message sent from the carrier to your phone. No its not that funky one you get when visual voicemail isn't installed either. Its a class 0 message in cshp format that triggers your message waiting indicator. Its a relic left over from voicemail systems that were used before we got android phones that were not cleared out. Touchwiz roms ignore them but aosp roms do not because some carriers use them.

did your previous android phone on sprint have visual voicemail? If not perhaps that is the reason.
The message waiting indicator stuff in android SMS message is where this is happening. CPHS is the format.

That was my initial thought as well - if the locks app is calling the stock filename, what about renaming the Handscent app to that filename? Seems it would call it, then.

lock screen sms count shortcut to 3rd party app. Possible/available?

Hey, after a few searches, I know this has been brought up elsewhere, but I'm just looking for updates.
I just changed over to handcent so I can have emojis, but now I'm realizing that the app doesn't work with one of my favorite features: the lock screen shortcut notification for sms/mms messages. What I'm looking for is some way that when you swipe that circle with the unread count for sms that it brings you to handcent (or whatever other 3rd party sms app) instead of the stock messaging app. I figure there has to be a way..
You're talking about on ICS TW(Stock setup) right? I don't believe that would be able to be done without a MOD of some sort.
I think you can do what you want, with a bit of a different look, using something like widget locker or some other lockscreen replacement app.

Thanks for the reply. Yea, ICS TW for now (synergy to be exact, not that it matters in this case). I really like the stock setup for the lockscteen, but I'll check out widget locker. I guess the best solution would be if someone made emojis work on rooted stock, but I'm not sure how much work that entails. I've only seen it available on AOSP

If you talking about the missed sms count to swipe to the left, dunno.
As for the sms icon/app you can change it under shortcuts where you toggle it on and off, you can click it and change it to your sms program.
Yeah, the OP wants to change where the missed message count brings him when he swipes it.
Long shot, but is there an ASOP messaging app we can use? And would that be able to be recognized as "stock"? I know ASOP has a mod for emojis

If it breaks anything you just delete the file you moved and thanks the original back to mms.apk
I have an inverted version of the stock MMS app (4.0.4-eng.tvap624.20120702.011632) and I can say that the notification that pops up on the stock lockscreen is unique to the Samsung mms app. This means notifications using any other mms app will not show up as a swipable event on the stock lockscreen. Inverted stock is a great version of the mms app. I just renamed secmms.apk (I believe) with .bak, put in the new app, renamed it as the original, set permissions, and rebooted. I have emoji support and messages on an all black background. It's nice.

With HeadsOff lollipop heads-up notifications can now be disabled!
No root needed.
You can also restore the ticker text in the statusbar!
Give it a try:
Download from Playstore
XDA thread
What about preventing text messages from turning the screen on every time one comes in? Any idea how to get do that?
If you rooted you can edit csc files to do that
