Hi, for the past year I've been backing up my photos/videos automatically with DropBox. Unfortunately my 18GB of space is going to be full soon.
I tried Google Photo's auto backup, which says it offers unlimited space if the photo is not bigger than 1080p and 2048px, but my Nexus 5's photo's are always 2448 x 3264, I think it's because HDR is enabled.
So I can't use Google Photo's auto backup as it will fill up all my free space anyways, + the auto backup isn't as reliable as DropBox, it keeps stopping every time my phones screen turns off.
What should I do?

Yes but I was hoping there would be a way to have access to all my photos on my phone and not have it take up all the space on my phone.
The best part about Google Photo's it shows a cached version on your phone.

I use Google Photos but I haven't reached the limit yet. I also use One Drive wich syncs with my windows computer. I actually have a lot of cloud services and I don't know why. lol. Dropbox, Box, Googe Photos, One Drive. You can probably buy more storage from Google if you need it. Otherwise, just make room on Google photos by moving some stuff to your computer or use different cloud services. Not really anything else you can do if you are out of space.

I don't mind paying the $1.99/m for 100GB via Google.
Does Google Photos auto backup automatically free up space on your phone after it backups photos/videos? or would I still have to manually delete it from my phone?

My photos get uploaded to my own Server at home.
Therefor I know who can see them and I have enough storage (4TB is enough)
To do this I run an instance of Owncloud on Ubuntu Server.

Interesting, I have lots of spare 1TB drives at home from work.
Gonna look into OwnCloud now, never heard of it before.
Hopefully it's possible to set it up on the spare Raspberry PI's I have at home.
I think Ubuntu (or any other Linux) can run on a Raspberry Pi. So you should be able to set up Owncloud.
But remember: The Server has to be online almost 24/7 (except the time you sleep).
I also use more powerful Hardware (Intel Atom Dual-Core) and also host my own File Server, Calendar and Contacts Sync Server, Webserver, DLNA Server and News Aggregator.
I'm almost independent from any third Party cloud services. I just like to know where my data is
But believe me. It really was hard work to learn how to set up Ubuntu Server with all those services. It was a long process of learning until I got to this state to run it all safe and energy efficient while keeping it reliable.

I have a tasker task that runs when I close any of my camera apps. It looks for new photos taken in the last 15 minutes then moves them to a new folder. Then I trigger a FolderSync task to SFTP those photos to my NAS.

Better Handling of out of quota issues on first photo import.

Notes:
Clients 1.3.5 and earlier had an auto-update bug. Please install this version so that your client will stay up to date!
The photo import feature is not available on Mac 10.4 and Linux.
For Android devices, it's best to use "Connect as Disk Drive". HTC Sync will not work.
To import from iPhone, make sure to unlock your phone and enter your passcode before importing, otherwise it will claim to find no photos.
If importing from your iPhone on Mac gives an import error, try hard resetting it--hold down the power and the home button for 5 seconds. This will reboot the phone; it shouldn't change your settings or delete data.
On Windows, this feature relies on Autoplay. Please enable Autoplay to use this feature if you have disabled it.
On XP and Vista, it relies on the Windows Image Acquisition Service. If this service is not started, please start the service and reinstall Dropbox to use this feature. On WIndows Server, you may have to install the Desktop Experience feature.
On Windows 7, newer devices that rely on Device Stage (in the Control Panel) will not show Dropbox as an import option until you select "Change Program" for the default.
The Galaxy Nexus takes a lot of time to connect on OS X because it likes to pretend that every image on the device is a photograph. We now estimate how long it's going to take and show you that in the progress bar but it's usually in the order of minutes. We're working to see if this can be improved.
As usual, we strongly recommend making a backup of your Dropbox before upgrading to this build as we'll need a few weeks to be certain of its stability. We will rapidly release new builds as necessary to snipe the most common issues as they arise."

you just maxed 5GB without wasting all that time and bandwith!
note:you must have at least 4.5GB in pics and videos plus that one initial picture
another note: your maximum in pics and videos you want to import can not be greater than total dropbox ammount available to you or it will fail to sync properly. so best keep it around 5 just in case.

Did you happen to try it through your computer? Connecting your phone through USB and having dropbox give you the option to import to dropbrox, I believe through AutoPlay. Because I'm not getting an AutoPlay pop up when I connect my phone to the computer so I can't figure out how to do the import. I'm using USB mass storage mode (pulling down the shade and clicking Select to copy files...). Anyone else not getting the pop-up when you connect?
EDIT: My bad.... didn't realize AutoPlay was something that could be disabled and apparently is was disabled on my computer (though I don't remember doing that). Just hit the Windows button and type "autoplay", open it up and click the checkbox at the top.
Also, thanks for the tip!

Doesn't box have an upload limit of 100mb or something like that? I need to upload a few large files that's why I was interested in dropbox.

@theos0o best known for modding Skype from sgs forum has found a way to patch dropbox client into thinking we have regular htc phone, giving us aditional 3gb free for a year here
Last chance to get 5GB. New beta just came out that takes effect today, that lowers 5GB to 3GB.
"Yo ho ho, and a bottle of code!
We wanted to say a special thanks to all of our early beta users! Thanks to your feedback, we have been able to find and fix a bunch of bugs.
Starting today, new users of Camera Upload will get 500 MB after their first successful import. Users can also receive up to a total of 3 GB additional free space for photos and videos automatically uploaded via the desktop or mobile apps.
Forum build users who tested Camera Upload before today, either on the desktop or Android, will keep any additional storage space they received for trying the beta version, and will still be able to earn up to 5 GB."

Now bringing 23GB free for 2 years. Deal with dropbox and new HTC devices.

Is that forever, though? The free 16GB I have from SugarSync is for 'life' as I understand it. If you upload 5GB once, does that give you 5GB forever, or if you delete files does it get removed from the availability?
As far as I know, the only temporary promos dropbox has are the ones with HTC 3GB/48GB respectively, for 12 months.
These should be yours for life*.

I believe that you have mixed deal that Box has with LG,HP and Apple, which is not the same as the deal that Dropbox has with HTC.
Anyways! These credits are here to stay so it's OK to delete uploads. Beside 7GB + with Dropbox is way more valuable than 50GB with Box with their 100mb limit one by one uploads and borderline impossible one by one downloads.

Well you should continue and get all you can. Of top of my head, use it for what they are giving these 5GB for. AUTO UPLOAD and simultaneous cloud as well as pc backup of your pics and videos without compromising pics resolution, videos being limited only by the free space on dropbox. Yes I'm looking at you google+ /picasa and box.net. Not bad for syncing Titanium backup with it as well.

Sigh. My phone have been uploading since 11 o clock. 2 hours and still uploading! Haha.
Hey, long time XDA fan... short time account cred loser :crying:
Anyway just got the Note, and I'm liking it,but I got it for office use.
What is the best way/app to allow me to autosynch files when I export a note and connect my note via the cable?
The notes will contain highly sensitive data, so that removes the option for Cloud solutions unless you know that auto encrypts before synching.
Thanks, in advance!
Bumping for hope of an answer. This is becoming more important to my long term ownership as my workplace is looking to deploy new MDM and policy control around byod devices.

Why don't you try something like Microsoft onenote but im not sure you can sync that without the cloud. If you don't really want to edit the notes you sync u can always save them as pdf's and copy them by usb cable

The best way to sync your tablet with something like Dropbox is an app called DropSync. I recommend getting the paid version as it is far more powerful.
Unfortunately, Samsung chose a format for their Notes app that is unreadable by anything outside of another device running the same Notes app. Why they chose this obscure standard I don't know.

I'm also very satisfied with Dropsync, but also very happy with SugarSync witch has better Win app and better folder setting. You can use my referral to get 500MB more.

What about Kies? I haven't tried it yet, in fact I'm just now downloading it hoping to accomplish the same thing... even so, my use doesn't require such high standards for security. I'm hoping this can make a direct connection with my PC a lot more efficient in order to track order forms and job notifications without needing to print paper.
Hope this suggestion gives you something to work with.
:::Not sure, but thus far it seems like Kies just stores a back-up/recovery file to your computer. Not sure this is helpful but I'm still trying it out:::
Thanks for all the help. This will give me a few things to try.

The best way to sync in the office using the USB cable is with an app and computer software called "Local Sync". Sorry can't post links, but just search the goole play store.
It allows one to sync files from your Note 10.1 to your office computer w/o having to put files in the cloud. I have found it to be completely secure and reliable since its syncs over the USB cable not wireless.
You will need to also download and install the Windows program to run it. You will also need to intall the samsung drivers which means installing Samsung Kies onto your office computer.
With this app and computer software all my critical files between work and tablet are perfectly in sync.
Good luck

OTG sync or file transfers seems to be a hassel. Can't you just use a card reader(SD, micro SD, M2, etc) to connect to your pc and and transfer files via the microSD Card. . No cables needed. Installing Kies means installing versions of Net Framework if you don't have it already installed. Real PIA to install AND uninstall. Isn't it a good idea to use the card reader for large files (under 4 GB)makes sense to me. Plus, you can take the card reader with you on when your away to transfer photos/files from your camera, cellphone, etc to the Note 10.1. Takes less battery power than OTA, correct?
So a couple years ago I got my first android phone, and it included 25gb of dropbox free for 2 years. I didn't care much for cloud storage back then because it still didn't work that well. The dropbox app back then was pretty much garbage, all it did was give you a slightly cleaner interface for the website version (which also just is not very useful for my purposes).
All I want to do is sync/mirror my music library, so when I download a song on my pc, it eventually shows up on my phone to be played. Maybe that was harder to do a couple years ago, but today that seems like a pretty simple thing with how much free/cheap cloud storage there is and how fast our devices are.
Yet I just spent the last day messing with drop box (while my 2 free years ran out Galaxy S5 which luckily gave me another 2 years of dropbox, this time at 50gb), and also tried the other stuff my new phone came with, and seemingly none of them actually can sync anything. They talk all about that, yet the mobile apps are still terrible. Dropbox, box and even tried samsung link. None of them care to sync anything onto your phone, they just offer convenient/single file only access.
I found dropbox folder downloader, so I could at least get my initial library in with that.. Of course even that didn't work at first - since the S5 comes with little storage - my music library was 11gb - and the S5 only has about 9gb free with all the bloat samsung loads it up with. (9gb free for a $900 phone, thanks samsung) . Anyways i had a 32gb sd card laying around i got for free years ago, so I should be good to go. Nope... 4.4 doesn't allow you to write to your sd card in any useful fashion. Anyways I got that fixed, and its currently downloading my library.
My question is:
How can I make this easier. I mean next time I want to do that again, it takes several hours.. (it will be faster next time since it would just have to check each file rather then download them all, but still likely slow).
All i want is a simple cloud storage that does what people generally think it does - fully sync my stuff between my devices. Is there any service (with both pc and mobile apps) out there that does this?
Preferably a way I can get dropbox to do it, but I'll pay for a different service/app if theres a better way.

Well I find that Google drive is pretty good for syncing to different devices. I use it for certain files so maybe you could try that to see if it works for you.

Yea I've used drive lots too. It doesn't sync anything to android.
Google drive is pretty much exactly like dropbox in functionality.. It will only sync to desktop, the mobile app doesn't do it.
The only automatic function it has, is auto image backup to drive, and the drive app itself doesn't do that, the google+ app does. And it works quite well for it what it is. But it only does that - backup images. And one way only (it doesn't really sync, and while there does seem to be a desktop app, it's also just called backup, not sync). Plus even though the pics used up your drive space, they were not accessible through google drive, just google+. Though they JUST fixed that, like the last day or so it seems to have that functionality now, tho it still only has a few pics from my new phone, my ones from my old phone say "your older pictures will show here soon".
So to go the other way (pc to phone) i'll have to wait on that, and link my pc pics folder to that one folder (if it allows it).
So yea its nice for photos, but I see no way to do any of that for music. There was an article on the frontpage for some info about how to do phone to google drive for music, but it wasn't "syncing" - wasn't automatic, and again, only one way.
I know drive and dropbox have decent api's, so there is probably some more complex way to set them up to sync, just not sure how yet. Plus there are some specific music services out there, but I don't know even if any of those sync to mobile.

Yah that's what I'm guessing to. All other cloud services are pretty much the same in terms of what they offer but I guess none sync to android very well. If you want to try another syncing app you may want to look at bittorent sync which may be what your looking for.
I think you can use an app for that. Try foldersync https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
So I had a bit of a scare the other day when my phone refused to read my SD card, all fixed now but it got me wondering what would have happened had my SD card actually died. So after a few days of searching the net for an app that would wirelessly or using the data cable sync my phones data to my PC, I couldn't find one that did what I wanted it to so here I am. The phone in question is the MOTO X STYLE on a stock ROM. Does said app or one like it exist?
I'd appreciate the help
EDIT - Just to clarify, I do have apps such as Mega backing up my device, the reason for this thread wasn't to find an alternative but to find one that'd backup/sync to my PC. I want to be able to watch the videos and view the pics located on my phone on my PC and I hardly ever download music to my PC (I download them via my phone, to my phone) so backing up my devices music to my PC would be nice.

sorry i havent seen an app that can do that, not to say there isnt one.
not what you wanted, but i can offer some better alternatives for auto app and pic/vid backup.
picasa from google will sync your vids and pics to the cloud and can be viewed on pc through a browser.
titanium will also sync to the cloud your app data. if your music is the data of some app, i would think it gets backed up, otherwise, no. although the backup could be viewed on a pc, its not in its original format.
any music that you obtained legally, probably has some protection on it to keep you from moving it anyways. at least it used to, but i haven't bought any music in some time, so maybe this changed.
sorry i couldnt be of more help

Hey, man, AirMore can surely help you! It is a completely free app based on web. You can use it to transfer phone or SD card data between Android and PC wirelessly. What's more, you can enjoy media files on web. For instance, you can watch videos of your phone directly on web rather than download them to PC in advance. Search it on Google Chrome, and you'll be satisfied with it. Please make sure you've set up your Android and PC in the same WIFI network before using it.

Thanks for the help, really do appreciate it but I found an application called MobileGo by Wondershare and it does everything I want it to. Syncing to my PC has to be done manually and using a USB connection but that's more than fine with me.
For those of you who might want to do what I did, which was to backup to a PC, I can't recommend MobileGo enough
