I flashed an AOSP 5.0 rom. During this I lost my google apps, which I expected. But I also lost all my apps, including ClockworkMod, and titanium backup. I cannot download apps to phone, as the phone "cant open file." My pc, win 7, can not detect phone, and I cant get the drivers updates, cuz I am stupid, which means that i cannot sideload apps. what do I do?

If you are not competent in your flashing skills, why do you bother risking to brick perfectly working devices is beyond me

did you flash a gapps package as well as the rom? thats what you need to do for your google apps, and to get your play store working.

I cannot install gapps. that is part of the problem. i cannot install the twrp or cwm needed to flash anything

You can grab a version of Google Play here.
4.5.10 is here:

Not sure if you can load it without it being a system app, though (have never tried so could be wrong)

I know it'll install without root, it's whether you need it as a system app to run that's the issue
thanks for your help but I was so stupid to format the system without doing a back up and now my phone is stucked on google screen.
So i am now able to go in bootloader and cwm and not more.
I have to find a way to upload a rom in sd to flash via cwm.
Any suggestion???
there's a return to stock thread in general. follow it step by step.

Rooted Nexus 5 won't install 4.4.3

My Nexus 5 is rooted. It downloaded the 4.4.3 update. It tries to restart and Team Win Recovery opens. I enter my password and it decrypts the data andI get the Team Win Recovery options. I don't see where to install the update from though?
I manually downloaded it from the link and I'm not seeing where Chrome put it either.
What am I missing? I'm certain I'm in the right folder which is downloads. It looks like it is only looking for a .zip file, but when I go to file viewer it looks like it downloaded a .tar.
How do I just tell the system to install the file it downloaded?
You need the OTA update. Sounds like you downloaded the full image. AP has the links.

What is AP?
I'm running the stock ROM and I am only running Xposed
ETA - I searched and found a link here. Is this what I need? http://www.droid-life.com/2014/06/03/download-android-4-4-3-ota-update/
Now my pc won't see the Nexus 5 and I tried downloading the Nexus 5 USB driver for windows 8 and it's saying it's not the right one.
Have a read of this thread:

It lists many different scenarios whereby you need to do different things depending on how your phone is loaded up for the update.
For the USB drivers you can get them from here:

I uninstalled Xposed from apps. I went to try to redownload the update, but it now says my phone is up to date but it's running 4.4.2
Now that I have xposed uninstalled, when the update is shown again (or hopefully I can force it since I'm sure it downloaded it and stored it somewhere) will it just run the update properly? Or is it still going to boot into team win and then not do anything?

I just downloaded the .zip file that is the update using my phone. I went into Team Win and clicked on install. Went to downloads and it errors. I have tried downloading it and installing it 3x and it always says E: Error executing updater binary in zip'/sdcard Error flashing zip'/sdcard/download/filename
wiping the cache/dalvik does nothing

[Q] Failure to flash a ROM, stuck in bootloop now, please help!

I am using a Nexus 5, and I tried to flash the CyanogenMod 11s from OnePlus One to my Nexus following instructions from here:
http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/nexus-5-gets-port-cyanogenmod-11s-featuring-android-4-4-4-1458608
My phone was not rooted, I performed a root and apparently succeeded, because I saw SuperSU installed on my device. I then proceeded to follow the instructions from the site mentioned above, performed a factory reset, and selected the ROM I downloaded to flash. The flashing failed and I am currently stuck in bootloop, afraid to proceed further and brick my phone.
Some of the signs I noted with my phone:
At the ROM installation screen, it says 'checking for MD5 file... Skipping MD5 check: No MD5 file found', 'symlink: some symlinks failed', ' E: Error executing updater binary in zip '/sdcar', and 'Error flashing zip '/sdcard/CyanogenMod_11S_ham'
At Reboot menu, upon tapping on 'Recovery' option it says 'No OS installed! Are you sure you wish to reboot?'
Please help me out, I'm sick at the moment, guess it is not a good idea to flash a ROM when you're sick huh? Been trying to find a solution and can't seem to find it, not sure if because I'm sick and too tired to read through or there really isn't a situation like this...
Thank you!
first option, adb push a rom and gapps to your phone(while youre in recovery), then flash it. second option, flash the factory img via fastboot while youre in the bootloader. it has nothing to do with being sick, it has everything to do about learning all about your device and how to take care of it, before you start modding your device.
All right, trying now. Did I make any mistakes during my initial process? Please enlighten me. Thanks.
I build my own ROM even when I'm sick, what do you mean?
Try redownloading as it had flashing issues before

no, you didnt actually. you could have had a bad download, that happens often enough(but i dont think its the case, as it wouldnt remove your rom), you also could have experienced a recovery bug, that also can happen from time to time. btw, did you mention which recovery youre using?
I'm using TWRP.

well, try to download it again, and push it to your drvice with adb, then reflash it. or try pushing another rom. or, you always have the failsafe of flashing the factory img. btw, did you happen to make a backup in recovery before you flashed? you should always make a backup in recovery if flashing something new, just in case. in your case, it would make thing extremely easy.
Unfortunately, I did not make a backup. I will learn from this mistake.
I took your advice and started to do a sideload using instructions from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/how-to-wipe-internal-storage-install-t2575150
However, I am stuck at no.7, could you please point out how do I carry out instruction no.7?
Thank you so much.

you need to bring up the ui for typing.. on my old windows computer at work, i find an empty space on the same page that adb is located on your computer, then i left click and press the shift button on that empty space, then i get a few option that pop up, and i press the option. but im using windows from like 2004-5, lol.
Wow, that's really old.
I saw one of the commands available is 'adb push 'file name', should I try that?
Sorry for the troubles!
yup. first do "adb devices" to make sure adb sees your phone.
Push command won't work. Neither does the sideload option. It keeps on saying 'cannot read sideload'.

Yeah, the ROM is in the same folder as the adb, and device is recognised as in 'sideload' mode.

"first option, adb push a rom and gapps to your phone(while youre in recovery), then flash it."
as @Lethargy said, gapps(google apps), you need to flash them. the google apps are not open source, they are owned by google, and cm isnt allowed to add them to the rom. but you are allowed to flash them separately
Thanks a lot for all the helps given. Really appreciate them! :good:

TWRP wiping issue

Hi, I was running Lollypop with franco kernel on my Nexus 5. I wanted to change my rom but sadly i wiped the cache, system and dalvik without copying the rom I had to flash into my nexus. I have a TWRP. Windows doesn't recognize my nexus and if i try to install throught my otg cable i got an error who says E:Mount: Unable to find partition for path *hammerhead image.zip*
What can I do?
You need to get windows to detect your device.
Go to my adb and fastboot thread (general > sticky roll-up) and install the universal drivers.

When I plug my nexus in my pc it says aosp hammehead in Device Manager, but when I try to update my drivers it says it's impossible to find them (I obviusly followed the guide and copied them in c:adb)
Aosp hammerhead when booted into recovery?
Yes, I didn't turn off my phone or reboot it since the wipe because when I try to do it TWRP says No Os installed! are you sure yuoi wish to reboot?
Turn MTP mode on in TWRP
Ok now I can see my nexus, I tried to copy the image there but I still get E:Mount error
Where is the error?
In the prhone when I go in the TWRP->Install->choose the hammeread zip image->Swipe to confirm flash-> it gives that error and says failed
What exactly are you copying to the phone?

That's not a flashable ROM.zip
If you want a stock, recovery flashable ROM to flash, go to general > sticky roll-up > section 6 - resources and download a flashable zip by vomer
I see, so I have to dowload the rom, the Rom, the radio and superSU, then flash them in the same order, right?

Just ROM and if you want root, yes SuperSU. Not really sure what end result you're looking for. Flash radio of you like.
As you probably understood, It's my first time doing that. Well, second, but the other time I had a friend with me. What I want to do is first of all get my phone working again, and hopefully that should do the trick. Then I'd like to install a custom kernel (ElementalX) and that's pretty much all I want.

You'll be fine with this, I'm confident.
I hope so! In 4 minutes I'll have the N5_LRX22C.zip, wich I will flash. To be sure, correct me if I'm wrong, I have to Install throught the TWRP, than flash supersu and in the end install the kernel zip from the recovery, right?
Yes, you can flash supersu after the kernel and I'm sure it will work (some kernels require supersu to be flashed after and reflashed every time you update kernel)

Elemental X will be fine though so as long as ROM goes first, rest is fine...
Oh OP, ensure you have latest SuperSU beta
Thank you both! I've done it all! Thank you very much, you pretty much saved my night.

Redmi 9A bootloop

Hello, I have a Redmi 9A in the default stock state (no unlocked bootloader and default recovery, no TWRP).
After a random shutdown while using it normally, it's stuck in a bootloop in the default recovery.
I've read other threads, and I think I can try to recover it by using SP Flash Tool (please confirm if this is correct), but I'm more concerned about the data inside the device.
Can I somehow recover the data before flashing it, or is it impossible to do that since my bootloader is locked?
Thanks.
Well I don't think you can recover data I guess, maybe if you only select download not format + download in sp flash tool but maybe you brick again your phone.
it boots to recovery, so use adb or mount internal storage. you can also dirtyflash ROM

Sorry for the delay, been doing some reading on these things.
By using adb, do you mean using adb pull to get the files? In the recovery, Connect to MI Assistant only gets the device in sideload, so I don't think that's possible. Don't have the option to mount storage either.
You have sideload?? If yes open adb in pc and type : adb sideload file.zip ( your rom ** btw you need recovery rom not fastboot**) idk if you will delete data or no
I tried that, but without success apparently. The rom is loading for some time, and then reports the error:
terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::bad_alloc'
what(): std::bad_alloc
From what I've read, it might be due to a bad driver installation, I will look at it and update

I've tried to sideload the latest recovery ROMs for 12.0 and 12.5, the device was 12.5 when it "crashed". Should I try MIUI 11, or is it enough with older 12 versions?

Ok, a bit late but I'm going to update just in case anyone faces the same problem.
After trying every option with no success, I gave up on recovering user data and wiped all data from the stock recovery menu, and that solved the bootloop somehow. I'm guessing an app was messing up the system, but I don't know.
Thanks @Rares6567 and @yaro666 for your help.
