Whenever I opt to always open something with the Chrome browser, it is not remembered.
When you choose to "always" use Chrome, you'll get a dialog with information on how to reset that option later. But the option doesn't stick, and you'll get the same question again and again.
These days I often choose to use Chrome "once only" because this way at least I won't get the information dialog after, so it's less touches to open Chrome this way.
How do I make this stick? Why doesn't it stick after two firmware updates already?
Can I force this somehow? I have root.
PS - Same problem on the Galaxy Note 10.1. No answers.
It's a KitKat bug. I've got the same issue with Tapatalk on my Note 3, and Officesuite on my NotePro.
Not a kit Kat bug, it's a touchjizz bug to hassle you into using the stock browser with Samsung's spyware.

Hi, Not sure if this is the best place for this question?
I am having an issue with Dolphin Browser, my phone is a samsung galaxy s2, i am using the custom rom PAC all-in-1 rom, android 4.2.2. i am using the latest version of dolpin browser 9.4.1.
The issue i am having is every 3rd or 4th time i open the app, my front screen shortcuts will be gone (most of the time when i open the app they are there), but sometimes they are not, and if i try to go to a webpage sometimes nothin happens, i dont get a bar showing that a page is loading etc..
the only way around this is for me to close the brower completely via the task manager then restart it, then it will normally load fine and all shortcut tabs will be on my front screen etc..
its just been happening a lot recently and would like to ask if its a known issue?
Would anyone know why this happens or how to fix it?
thanks
James
My Galaxy Note 10.1's stock browser no longer downloads files for some reason. I press something I want it to download, and it'll say "starting download" like normal, but the notification doesn't come up in the notifications bar like it normally does, and nothing downloads. Chrome has no problems downloading.
I think I know why this happens (though I'd be surprised if this was it): after a website tried to download a file to my Galaxy Note 10.1 one morning, I hastily disabled some kind of download process or service thinking...well, I was half asleep, so probably wasn't thinking I would think though that if I disabled it, then it'd just reenable itself next time I went to download something.
Any ideas why this is happening?
another browser?
not sure with the problem..
using another browser like Maxthon or Boat maybe help you download
Was wondering if anyone else with an N5 has had a similar experience:
My tabs in Chrome tend to reload/refresh. CONSTANTLY. If I have multiple tabs open (even only 2), swiping from one to the next almost always results in the page reloading. If I use the multitask button to to another app and then immediately back to Chrome, all of the open tabs will refresh/reload. Even pressing the home button and immediately reopening Chrome results in a refreshing of the tabs.
This is extremely annoying. Not only does it waste time, but it's killing my monthly data allotment too when I'm off WiFi. On my N7 and N4 I don't get this behavior -- I can have several tabs open without them reloading after switching apps or going to the homescreen.
Is there anyone else experiencing this? I wonder if it's related to 4.4's "improved" memory management features.
Yep I'm noticing this behavior as well. Very annoying.
Just curious, do you happen to sync chrome to a pc with the option set on the pc to reload tabs on open? Wonder if that behavior is somehow transferring over?

By "reload tabs on open," do you mean to open up a specific set of websites when I open the browser? I do have that enabled, but it's never affected any of my mobile devices (my phone and tablet does not open up to the pages like my laptop and desktop do). Even so, I have Chrome set up with the same configuration/settings on my N4 and N7, and they don't have this issue.
It's gotten bad enough for me to pop my SIM back into my N4 and use it while I'm waiting for someone to bite on my craigslist ad.
I am seeing this as well. I didn't notice until you mentioned it, because I just came from a RAM starved gnex which has to reload everything. But I am surprised because I can open like 5-10 different apps and switch between them with no reloads and then to have chrome do it for every page just seems odd.

I hate to say it but I'm considering going back to my ancient galaxy nexus at least for now. For me it's voice dialer problems, wifi, and wireless charging issues. Seems like they keep re-breaking the same stuff on every major release of Android.
For the past few months now my wife's Tab 2 has been misbehaving, it is consistently crashing with certain apps (mainstream ones, not random junk) most noticeably the stock browser (making that unusable) - the browser starts and displays the menu and tab bar, but does not display any webpage or url and then will crash within 5 seconds without doing anything, thus returning to the home screen. Similar behaviour is seen when using the Google search widget, I type in a word, press the magnifying glass to search it pauses a long time then closes and goes back to the home screen.
Lots of apps work absolutely fine but about 30% don't, and it is pretty consistent if the work they always work, if they don't work they usually crash at the same point. I did wonder if it was a certain function or driver that triggers the crash or possibly more likely there is a hardware failure.
The tablet is completely stock and up to date. I have tried doing a factory reset and restored everything, that didn't work. I tried a factory reset and restored nothing (setting up no accounts not even a Google one and installed nothing) but still I get the same behaviour. I have tried wiping the cache partition as recommended on many websites (http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-8015). I have also tried running the Internet in Safe Mode, all with the same result of the app closing and going back to the home screen.
Does anyone have any suggestions or even something different to try?
(Ideally I didn't want to root it or use a custom ROM, but I may have to try this if nothing else can be suggested, I have my doubts whether this would fix it.)
I reported this issue to Samsung 21 days out of warranty and they want me to send it to the repair centre to get a quote whilst re-iterating that it was out of warranty.
I can't remember how or where from but I followed some instructions to log what was happening, please find that attached. A quick search for "died" will show where the issue occurs.
Thanks for reading, I hope someone can help as my wife has all but given up on using the tablet.
Thanks
Craig

Anyone know if this is likely to be a hardware issue?
I'm currently charging it up ready to flash with CM12.1, always wanted to try it and it can't do much harm now and may even fix it!
Thanks for looking anyway.
Here's a tip, go with CM11 snapshot, cm12 is buggy and when you least expect it you get stuck with a bootloop. And drop the native browser and use Chrome.
This tab 2 isn't up to cm12, I was running CM11 for over a year with no issues whatsoever and speed and processor speed equal to my son's Nexus 10.
I t tried CM12 and after 2 weeks it went haywire, I'm not a flashaholic, I use my tab for Internet browsing, youtube and play one game Plants vs Zombies.
I get great battery life and everything works the way it's supposed to.
This a typical screen shot of my tablet in sleep mode.
Pp.
OxygenOS 9.5.9 update and I still have this issue see the video link below. I tried re-installing Chrome, did a factory reset of the phone, disabled smooth scroll on chrome but nothing works still have this issue!
What's also frustrating whenever I have this issue the screen will not timeout/go off, its as if something is hanging in the background. The only workaround I have found is to close the Chrome and relaunch or toggle the screen on/of with power button.
This issue also happens with Google Feed, Edge and Brave Browser basically any chromium-based browsers. Clearly, this is an bug with OnePlus and Chromium for whatever reason.
It's become so frustrating that I have disabled Chrome, uninstalled all other browsers and have resorted to using Samsung Internet Browser as my default browser which does not have this issue.

P.S. Only noticed this issue since updating to OxygenOS 9.5.8 and now 9.5.9 never noticed it in any of the previous versions!
Does it happen in Chrome dev?
I used to have this with (I believe chrome Dev) and needed to do exactly what you do, force stop and restart chrome. After that it works for a while but the problem comes back. After a while I uninstalled chrome Dev and started to use the stable one. Can't say I ever noticed it again, this was on min OP6, on my OP7P I'm still using chrome stable and also not notice the problem.
Some questions, are you stock? Custom kernel? Magisk modules? Etc etc.
Tried on the same website on chrome and it's normal on my unit

No runnning stock, not rooted as mentioned I did a full factory reset no joy. Even made sure I was running the factory pre-installed version of chrome. Whats worse when this happens it throws off the screen time out , screen will not time out unless I re-launch chrome or toggle power button on/off. To reiterate only noticed this issue since updating to OxygenOS 9.5.8 and now 9.5.9 don't recall having this issue on any of the previous versions!

The issue is random nothing to do with visiting a specific website, it happens every now and then as I said if I force stop chrome and re-launch problem goes away or if I just toggle the power button for screen on/off the scroll works as normal no issues!
I never had this issue with any of my previous phones and before anyone asks I have even uninstalled all the apps I normally use and stuck with the default ones still the issue rears it's ugly head.
The only solution for me now I'm using Samsung Internet Browser Beta as my default browser including opening links from all 3rd party apps and I have no scroll issues. :good: And actually this browser is growing on me, beginning to prefer this over chrome!
Really annoying , I understand.
What you could try is to factory reset and after that's done manually flash the latest available OS version. Not a OTA but the full rom. (Around 1500/2000 mb).
