Was wondering if anyone else with an N5 has had a similar experience:
My tabs in Chrome tend to reload/refresh. CONSTANTLY. If I have multiple tabs open (even only 2), swiping from one to the next almost always results in the page reloading. If I use the multitask button to to another app and then immediately back to Chrome, all of the open tabs will refresh/reload. Even pressing the home button and immediately reopening Chrome results in a refreshing of the tabs.
This is extremely annoying. Not only does it waste time, but it's killing my monthly data allotment too when I'm off WiFi. On my N7 and N4 I don't get this behavior -- I can have several tabs open without them reloading after switching apps or going to the homescreen.
Is there anyone else experiencing this? I wonder if it's related to 4.4's "improved" memory management features.
Yep I'm noticing this behavior as well. Very annoying.
Just curious, do you happen to sync chrome to a pc with the option set on the pc to reload tabs on open? Wonder if that behavior is somehow transferring over?

By "reload tabs on open," do you mean to open up a specific set of websites when I open the browser? I do have that enabled, but it's never affected any of my mobile devices (my phone and tablet does not open up to the pages like my laptop and desktop do). Even so, I have Chrome set up with the same configuration/settings on my N4 and N7, and they don't have this issue.
It's gotten bad enough for me to pop my SIM back into my N4 and use it while I'm waiting for someone to bite on my craigslist ad.
I am seeing this as well. I didn't notice until you mentioned it, because I just came from a RAM starved gnex which has to reload everything. But I am surprised because I can open like 5-10 different apps and switch between them with no reloads and then to have chrome do it for every page just seems odd.

I hate to say it but I'm considering going back to my ancient galaxy nexus at least for now. For me it's voice dialer problems, wifi, and wireless charging issues. Seems like they keep re-breaking the same stuff on every major release of Android.

Has anyone experienced this or has this been discussed in any thread for the TF? But my stock browser often closes unexpectedly with no force close message and returns to the home screen. When reopened, it forgets the recently the opened pages. Very, very annoying..

I got this a few times last night. It happened mainly on large/busy sites. I think this is an issue that will be rectified with the future 3.1 update.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using XDA Premium App
Had it happen once or twice in the past 3 weeks. I think it is just an HC stability issue.
It seems to happen to me more often after I updated to the latest Adobe Flash 10.3.
Ditto. It has happened here every once and a while... But not enough to bother me.. I assume it will be addressed later.
This happened about 3 times yesterday evening while I was browsing. I don't know if it is related to a HC stability bug, or an Adobe Flash bug, although I'm more inclined towards the former, because I can browse perfectly fine with my Atrix on Flash 10.3. Also, I noticed a strange thing for the first time yesterday: When the browser crashes with no FC message, and you restart it back again, I get a screen filled with banding and multi-colored interference. Only way to fix it is to restart. I hope all of this gets taken care of with 3.1, because the browser experience really leaves something to be desired on 3.0.1 in my opinion. It just does not handle any heavy pages at all, let alone any embedded videos or just videos period.
happens when you try surfing to gmail
If you would like to see it crash 100% of the time, go to your gmail and try to open a message
It also freaks out in Gmail main page.
I was having browser crashes as well until the sudden disk space full error. After my factory reset the browser crashes have gone away. I wonder if they are related.
I got it twice in 3 weeks. It happened both times on Yahoo's ain page.
Happens to me also but never loses its place.
3.1
i first noticed this happening last night, 2nd night after updating to 3.1. never happened before that. i don't have the screen timeout on so the screen will stay on so i can see my moves list at a glance on a website. after about 10-15 minutes of not touching device it will just suddenly return to the homescreen and if i open browser it has to reload the page. i thought maybe it was something to do with the built in android memory management auto killing the browser, since there doesn't appear to be any flash on the page.
i too am having this problem.
Stock browser is where it started, so I go Dolphin HD and it still happens. So its not the browser itself it would seem, since 2 different browsers both do it.
There HAS to be a fix for this...
Since the 3.1 update I'm seeing something different - The browser simply stops responding after a while.

I to am having trouble with my browser. I am experiencing it ceasing to function aftwr awhile as l as frequent crashing when I load it. Crashes all the time if I type anything or use the menu if Ido so before it finishes loading my home page.
When your updated to 3.1, click reset all in the settings menu. Then when it's finish go into the browser settings and set plugins to be on demand. I'm able to run well like that it is flash that kills it, soon as you click the flash content to enable it on a page it may crash.
Am I the only one who's browser had been made useless by 3.2? Whenever I scroll the screen redraws in large blocks, or the entire page flashes white and takes several seconds to redraw the entire thing. The browsing experience gets slower and slower until the browser closes. Not a force close, it just disappears, leaving me at the desktop.
I even did a security wipe, thinking maybe that might fix it. No luck yet.
I have seen a few issues where the browser just vanishes and my tab state is lost. Some times when watching flash videos they disappear now, and this may be more of a flash issue but sometimes if I move my tablet and it tries to reorient (landscape/portrait) flash will just give me a big '!' and I'll have to start over. Just a couple things I've seen since 3.2.

I have add-ons set to on demand, so I doubt flash is whats causing the crashes.
I hate the lag when you type and I find the fact that you can't download certain kinds of files just stupid. I switched to opera mobile for said reasons. I wish they would fix and improve the stock browser because I like how fast it is in general (apart from the horrible typing lag).

Same problems here also.
Found something interesting: the dock is causing the problem. When undocked, the tablet performance is great. When docked, the performance tanks (in addition to the browser redraw problems).
Hope this gets fixed in the next patch.
I have been using Dolphin browers & it isn't much better. The typing lag is better but it still has issues. I'll be typing along & then come to apoint where I cannot backspace. This will happen with both the stock & Dolphin. I have used Opera but it is a little slower. I have also had the stock browser just close on me too like others. I am not sure if there is abrowser issue or a Honeycomb issue. I wish these issues would get resolved.
Also to note my issue have be worse since the three.two update. See I cannot even type numbers. I should be this & just want to toss my trasformer out the window.

Same issues undocked here. Browser crashes constantly. Notice it on forums usually. Typing is fine, but deleting or backspace sucks ass.
I wish the browser would just not crash. The only thing that really pisses me off.
I wonder if the Xoom is having simular issues.

This has been happening to me a lot lately. Pretty annoying that's for sure. I also have some issues with trying to search in the web address window. It just doesn't work right. Sometimes i get unexpected operations too.
The closing is mostly when browsing forums...what I do quite a bit unfortunately.
ok so it's not just me! I just got my tab a couple days ago and was shocked at the browser performance. Anyone have same issue in custom rom?
Im having the same keyboard lagg, and poor browser performance. Using Dolphin for tab now which is a bit better. Also im using hackers keyboard(market). Together This increases the responsiveness, but its still poor for a tablet with these specs. Especially flash video playback is way better with dolphin.
Im also interrested if custom roms have these problems too.
hi everyone!
just want to bump thhis thread, I have had this problem for some time. i don't like to post on the forum, i just search. However, this is pissing me off beyond belief!
It happens on both my stock browser and dolphin for pad, like has been said, mainly happens on forums (I do spend most of my internet time on them). Most times i'll be scrolling a page or trying to press a link, other times i am not even touching the tablet and turn off
can anyone shed some light on this for me please? is there anything i can do to stop this?
Download & install Opera. It is by far the best browser out there. The stock browser is just plain horrible & the Dolphin tablet browser isn't much better.
Try Firefox. I think the best browser.

Im on revolver Tom
Blades kernel
Thumb keyboard
And the improvement is clearly present. No lag while typing.
I had tried clemsy kernel 20 and 21 but noticed my page loads were extremely slow plus several times they would just hang forcing me to reboot.
I tried dolphin..stock..and opera and all lagged bad
I'm now back to browsers and have yet to have a major issue. Was actually tuning fantasy foootball flash app off their website with no issues.
A little off topic but is there a way to always keeps the toolbar docked on dolphin? I would also like a hone button always present. Is this possible?
As above im on revolver with blades and im still getting block loading and type lag on some sites. especially the ones with a chat box. Only really appears to be forums. I dont get it with opera but its the time it takes to load.
I have the same issue. The stock browser or dolphin for tablet shutdown without any message (no force close), principaly on forum too...
I'll try Opera to see if it's better.
Any news from Asus about this problem ? Is it a know issue ?

Hey fellas, recently I downloaded the 8.1 RT preview. Now I've come across a few problems but the main one is with IE 11.
Why does IE display mobile websites?
Because your on a mobile device perhaps. There is actually a setting for whether to load mobile or desktop sites in both IE10 and 11 I think.

The thing is it never used to go directly to the mobile site, So it's something that they've added into 8.1, The question was, is there a way of disabling this 'awful' feature.

I answered the question. There is a setting. I am not sure where as I am on an x86_64 desktop not an ARM tablet. I've also gone into control panel and totally disabled internet explorer.
It might only be accessible in desktop IE which has a more substantial options menu that ModernUI IE (however the settings still apply to both modes)
RT here. What website are you having problems with? All mine work perfectly. I do have another problem though. I get less battery with this than any tablet I've ever used. I get around 2 hours of use, and around 6 to 7 hours of standby. Suggestions?

I've noticed that since I've installed 8.1 I get about half of my previous battery life.
One of the reasons is that when you close apps like mail and ie11, they don't actually close anymore (they are still open as full programs in task manager unless you kill them).
This is obviously a bug as there is no foreseeable advantage to this, I did notice that even after closing IE remembers sites I was on. Personally I hate it.

Wow, haha, does that tablet use AA batteries?
But seriously that is a little odd, my battery seems okay, and I'm on a Surface RT machine. Well 8.1 uses more battery life because it needs it. If you've not already noticed apps don't close. (You can test this using IE, open it go on a site, then close. If you reopen the app you'll jump right back into your old session)
To improve your battery life, you can try a few things,
1. Check if Bluetooth is on.
2.brightness
3.USB peripherals.
4. You could also try a healthy charge, all you have to do is drain the battery completely, then charge it without use.
After it has completely charged drain again then charge. Do this once a month and it 'should' slightly improve battery performance.

They've taken a very simple action and made it very awkward to close an app. Hopefully someone somewhere will read the forum posts and complaints that it destroys battery life and will remove this problem. If I wanted apps to stay open, I'd leave them open!
The other problem is when you want to close an app it takes too long to close, I think it's about 3 seconds
I have the stupid lock screen bug from here http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...g/fa2cc68f-6b80-4625-8232-bf5a03f6620b?page=1. I've tried everything but reinstalling 8.1 and that's only because i can't get it to reinstall Package update to place 8.1 in the sore for download recognizes its already installed ad there's no way to remove it that i can find.
@feygor: WinRT ("Metro") apps, like Windows Phone apps, suspend automatically when going into the background unless explicitly coded to do otherwise. The use no battery power while suspended. I imagine Microsoft made that change to make it easier to "minimize" an app, since closing one is almost never needed.
You can also still close the apps by pressing Alt+F4 (admittedly this is annoying on the Touch or Type cover keyboards, where you must also press Fn in order to enable F4) or by right-clicking the app in the left-side task switcher and choosing Close.

You can also drag it from the task switcher to the bottom and have it close, I dont know if that still works on 8.1.
I am actually in agreement with everyone else though, why change that? If you want to minimise an app swipe into another or just hit the bloody start button.
I've had my first blue screen on 8.1 today, not sure what caused it.
It did over heat 3 times so maybe that had something to do with it.
Mines gotted a bit warm a few times but never actually overheated, what were you doing to it at the time?
Oh, sorry when I say it got hot, I mean I was sat out side in the scorching heat. (It was so warm it literally burnt my hands)
It now shows a temperature icon when it's getting warm,
There is also a new issue I've found in IE 11, but I can't tell them about it.
I've only experienced this on youtube, it seems t play the audio even when on other pages.
For example, I have a video playing right now, if I was to swipe from left to the right, it would go back a page. But the audio from that video would still be playing on the new page.
Hello everybody.
first of all i just want to mention that im really happy with the phone, especially after moving from galaxy s3 with its horrendous memory tasker and RAM.
ive noticed a problem thats been really bothering me:
after a day of use , maybe more, there seems to be a lot less memory available for the device, resulting in chrome/chrome beta reloading every time that i go back to it, even without performing any actions or loading new apps - simply moving to whatsapp for example and back to chrome - Bang! the browser reloads. I want to emphasize that this is not the normal behavior for chrome, as this does not occur after a fresh restart.
When i go to services running, there is about 800mb of ram left, but when i go to ES task manager, there is only 400mb, i dunno the cause for this difference, but i do know that despite disliking task managers very much , Pressing "Kill ALL" will restore the desired behavior for a while (no reloads).
I tried to root the phone and install Greenify , but this doesnt seem to be helping.
did anyone notice any similar behavior? thanks.
In my experience, chrome and chrome beta are huge memory hogs and refresh quite often no matter what. For that reason, I stay away from it and stick with the aosp browser. It's fast and light.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk
i understand what you're saying - but im referring to the data displayed by es task manager (having a lot less memory than reported) and also to the fact that after a reboot , or closing all task, the phone does have enough memory to come back to chrome without reloading it .
notice im not complaining about the memory used by chrome, also having more than 500MB of RAM left should be enough anyway no?
also - as far as i know AOSP browser is no longer supported, no?
I've also experienced this on my N5. Sometimes when switching away from chrome and then back again, even briefly, will cause the web page to refresh. This is extremely annoying especially when you're on a internet banking page which will require you to re-login.

this is exactly what im experiencing.
however, since it doesnt happen after restart or killing all apps, it is somehow memory related, but with having 800mb free, i dont really understand the issue :/
Surely the Android devs at google use internet banking, hopefully a fix arrives soon...!
I nerfed chrome as its so messed I cant even use it also drains batter like no tommarow it was always reloading for me to I went to opera it has working word wrap and way less draw on batter.
This has anyways happened to me. Since gal nexus, n4, n5, and n7. /shrug. Maybe it's a nexus thing? I thought this happened on all devices with chrome.

I've had S4 and N4 and it certainly doesn't happen, at least not from switching away from chrome and back again within a few seconds. But those devices were on Android 4.3.

It happens on galaxy s3 but that device has 1gb of memory with only 100mb or less available usually . nexus 5 even at its worst state has more than 500MB, so it def. shouldnt happen.
After side loading the 4.4.1 update (got tired of waiting for the ota) the chrome reloading seems to be fixed! I've only done brief testing but it looks promising.
Wondering if anyone else has noticed this and has a fix? When switching between apps many times if I go back to Chrome any tabs I have open will completely refresh. Annoying as hell and I don't get this issue on my Note 4 Edge
Thanks
Likely due to Android memory management

No fix, unfortunately. The tab can't seem to multitask between apps well, every time I switch back to an app I was recently in, the app restarts. It's incredibly frustrating.
