Will Motorola ever release Android 5.0 soak test for the Droid Maxx ?
For the love off all that is Pure and Holy, do 5 seconds of searching, like I just did for you, before asking a question... Google. Google is your, and therefore our, friend.

Soak test and actual public release is totally different, so yes I did do a little search and only found that Motorola is releasing 5.0 to the Droid Maxx so take your stupid little comments that no one really cares to read and am sure someone would of asked the same question.
SOAK TEST.....
If you are signed up to be a tester then you will get it. Or wait a few hours and a kind gentleman who violates the user agreement will post it in XDA developers.
I signed up for when they released 4.4.4, I just was wondering if the Maxx will get the test just like the x,g.
No we're not gonna get a soak test, we're not getting Lollipop either because i didn't do my research!!!!

Motorola has already said that the Maxx is getting 5.0. Motorola always does a soak test before release, but you may not get chosen to be a soak tester. Either way, by the end of about a week or two after you start reading rumors of a soak test, you'll have lollipop on your phone.
And, as already posted, there hasn't been a soak test yet that hasn't leaked within a day so you can manually run the update yourself.
I suppose it's possible that Motorola and Verizon will update the phone without a soak test, but they never have before.
Thanks for the response, I really appreciated.
Motorola just called...
They told me that the soak test rollout will begin tomorrow night, 9 pm sharp.

If you wish to take part. There are a quite a number of interested users, so please respond as quickly as possible as it is open until evening of 7/29/12.

I guess ICS is on the way.
Right around the corner!

Is the OTA that soak test participant's get the same as the final release, or do they usually make tweeks between soak test and final release?
Usually a final release unless the testers find any major bugs.

Got the same E-Mail early this morning and I completed the survey :fingers-crossed:
I received the same invite too. When completing the survey it asked if I rooted my phone and after saying yes, it asked if I was willing to go back to stock for testing. Not sure if that exempts us from the test group. Good thing it didn't ask if I was already testing the ICS leak that is installed on my phone.
Question for the DEVs.... Once we download the update.... Should we post it for you for guys? (in case any of you are not in the group selected)

In order to qualify for the soak test you had to agree to keep it confidential. That means not even talking about if you were invited on any forum and includes giving the update to any other person (it is a big no no). If you do that you are in violation of the NCA you agreed to. Having said that at the end of the survey it should have told you if you were included in the soak group or not. If you qualified based on your answers it would tell you so. If it did not say you would be included in the soak test and if you wanted to factory reset to do it immediately, then you most likely did not qualify. Having a rooted phone and restoring it to stock most likely does not preclude you from being included in the test. Moto wants all scenarios tested including previously rooted phones and people running an AT&T phone on a another network. If the soak test is successful the OTA should start going out to the public in about five to ten days after the soak test begins.

I too am a bit confused. Now at the 4.0.4 leak, I too have received the soak invite.
However, since the leak is running so well on my phone, I am hesitant to jump in for a soak if you will.
Instead, I think this is what I am going to do. Wait for the full ICS OTA to come out. Wait for our pros to get their feet wet a bit more with our new fxz thread that has sprung up, and finally, wait and see if those of us running the leak can get to the OTA ICS when it is released. From what I have read now, there is a bit of nebulous information on whether it will ever be possible due to one particular part of the fxz process. I encourage you all to read the threads and *cough* soak it all in so you understand.
Until then, I'm not fixing my phone, as with the 4.0.4 leak its certainly not broken like it was with 2.3.6, and I will be patient. I know its exciting to be a soak tester, though based on scar tissue from having to fxz when Moto soak tested 2.3.6, I am just going to sit and wait. Perhaps those of us on 4.0.4 leak should do the same until the trained professionals see what we have to work with when the OTA ICS is released.

My guess is that that leak was so close to the soak test that it has a fairly high chance of being identical to the soak test and final release. Wait for the soak test to begin and see what version people are running (if they will violate the NCA and tell you). If you have the same version then you are already good to go. If not then you would need to restore your phone somehow to stock 2.3.6 in order to install the final OTA update as it most likely will not validate being installed over a leak.
Is there any way you can up the soak to a filehosting site?

Wrong!! AT&T and Moto have fixed several of the issues that have we have seen in this leak. Remember the leak we have is from july 6th. The soak will be a new build as of most likely last week from my sources.
Also all this NCA buisness... do you really think that everyone in the soak is going to keep this from us? I got the 2.3.6 soak the day it came out and released to well our only other dev then lfaber06, and we had 2.3.6 roms and patches out to everyone that week. I still have never released who gave it to me, unless those people want the credit.
Also you WILL HAVE to be on 2.3.6 for the SOAK files to work, the install will work just exactly like the leak did. We also now have a way back to 2.3.6, and I will release a script and all the files tomorrow so that those in the leak can do this.
Gotcha... I know it said I made it, but was flipping through the screens as I was running out of the house. Thanks for the clarification and info on the non disclosure.

Jim, what is your guess as to the odds the leak will be able to update to the soak test software?

People can technically do that but to participate in the soak test they have to agree to an NCA (Non Disclosure Agreement) where it specifically prohibits talking about the soak test and sharing the OTA files with anyone. So if they do that they violate the NCA they agreed to to be part of the soak test. I think the logic behind that is even though the soak is probably the final release if there is a major bug or bricking issue they don't want it to spread behind the targeted soak test pool of users.

The soak files will validate whether people are updated to stock 2.3.6 and maybe 2.3.5. It most likely won't have the hashes to validate the system files in the leak so the probability of that is most likely nil. Stock, signed OTA files check every file in the system with hashcodes (either mda or shasum usually) to make sure they are stock. If every file is not stock the OTA will refuse to update the phone. So if you are on the leak it will most likely refuse to install.
It will be interesting to see what clock speed the CPU runs at in the soak / final update.
I got a invite for the soak testing too. I have no idea as to how i could of gotten that because I've never registered with moto.

It is sent to selected members of Moto Owner's forum that also filled in their model, IMEI and carrier info. That registers you for the Motorola Feedback Network. If you did not do that then there is no way they would have sent you an invite to the soak test.

Again, as I said before. this is wrong. The SOAK is just like an OTA and will be linux patch files ONLY!!! There is no check to see if you are on a leak to see if you are on ICS or not, just a check of the signatures on the files they plan to patch, again not EVERY file. The cheks are md5 of ONLY the files they are going to patch, so that they know that the patch will take.
We have seen these before, and dealt with them before here in the A2 forum.

Probably not, there has not been any word of the lollipop soak test yet. The Moto X guys are also waiting and logic would say they're going to get it before we do.

Thanks

Did they actually start the soak test, or is it still the test drive?
Does it benefit you that much to have a pre release version? If you want to make roms, why wouldn't you wait until the final version of the software is released? I know that, usually, a soak is very similar to a final release (and who knows with these "test drives"), but not always. And since the 5.0 botched release caused several problems, why wouldn't you wait?
None of us got it. Unless the few people who beta-tested it not (soak tested) it.
Its against NDA so no one will bother

Well it was too prepare. They want to get a mostly stable version before they push it to the super soakers to make sure the 5.0 bricking disaster doesn't happen again. From what I have read we do NOT want them to rush things. Once it is safe the soakers will get it and then everyone. As long as it is within a month I do not mind if it means smooth and mostly bug free
I welcome the caution of Motorola. Or maybe they are already soak testing but the group members are so good they are keeping it on the DL

I can confirm the 5.0 disaster ... It was Lollipop massacre ... It happened on the Moto G (First Gen), one of the first moto device to receive the lollipop update through Soak test ... the image was leaked and people started flashing them, there were some minor bugs in the image, and whenever people tried to get to stable kitkat, or stock Rom in order to get official update their phone got permanently bricked ...
There are major changes in the Bootloader during the major android updates, so it's best to take precautions and wait patiently till someone confirms a proper procedure .
I can confirm the soak test isn't fake.
Didn't want to share this whatever.
Added HD Calling
Added Wifi Calling
Added Band 12 support
Visual voicemail not built into the dialer app
Soak test started for moto x paly nogute
What's coming in Android Nougat?
Android 7.0 Nougat brings multi-window options, night mode, bundled notification, improved security update, enhanced battery optimisation, and several other value-added features to enhance user experience.

oh 7.1.1 thx!
I wonder how long it takes till the official release ?
If someone who receives the update captures the ota and uploads the update zip file then everyone of us can update our device.
let's hope for a better night shots.. (but I really doubt it)
At last 7.1.1 arrived on MPX
Android Nougat Update
Motorola has started Soak Test for Indian Moto X Play. It is Android 7.1.1. Sadly it is disaster. Lenovo Forum is flooded with bugs ranging from Non Bootable phones, random crashes, reduced battery life, slow responsive touch, phone vibrating randomly during calls and much more...
I recommend DO NOT UPDATE to Nougat until Lenovo fixes the bugs and release another version. Trust me, you will regret updating to Nougat at this point of time.
If anyone would like to upgrade despite this, let me know and i will release the OTA after getting the zip file.

Well I had already enrolled for the soak test but I did not receive any update, I would obviously report bugs on lenovo forum where most of the users are posting. I simply don't get the point why people are not sharing the zip.
Firstly if any bugs arise or even the device gets bricked its completely the the responsibility of the person who flashes as he knowingly does so that its a soak test. I have used the moto g1 as well as the g4, where the updates were instantly uploaded within few hours by the users once they were available.
Secondly coming to the point of NDA , there are many ways to upload the zip by some different id and it nearly impossible for lenovo to track the user and block further updates. The NDA is simply an pen and paper work and nothing more than that.
I feel the community for the G series is much better than that of X

Well tell me how you are going to report bugs in the private forum for those who have been invited? Why don't you just wait for the final release without the (unlikely) chance of bricking your device? I don't think that they didn't invite you without a reason.
Also flashing an official update or a custom rom are two different things. Oh and breaking an NDA makes a community better? Don't underestimate the stupidity of some people who would flash that buggy update they got from one of those shady "News" sites or youtube channels expecting an official Update. I mean look at those sites which already reported that official nougat is being shipped.
