I recently got a nexus 5 and i intsalled the lollipop developer preview .. but then that wiped everything on my internal storage as well :/ so im just wondering if i go to TWRP and wipe data will that wipe my internal storage again ? (sicne nexus 5 does not use an SD Caard) and so will i have to backup all my SD card data before wiping data ?
Well I'm using clockworkmod recovery but I'm pretty sure twrp just wipes your cache and data plus factory resets your phone when you hit the wipe option... You won't lose photos or music etc etc as long as you do not wipe internal storage or create a partition on your phone

No, TWRP has the option for wipe internal storage. Its different than wiping data

I know the drill when installing a new ROM is to wipe wipe wipe but I just updated to CWM 5.0.20 and now there's a "format /emmc" option. Format this dir also? Cache, data, dalvik, system ...and now emmc?
Well I formatted it. It didn't touch anything on my external SD (which was really my own concern). Anyone know where to get a listing of dirs and partitions? I'd like to read up on it.
I believe emmc is the internal
storage (aka internal sd). If you have any pics or music on it or just moved from a stock ROM I would back it up first.

If you wipe data, cache and dalvik cache, which are requirements to flash new rom, it doesn't wipe your sd card... You can flash new rom and you will have all the info in your sd card

I'm just wondering if it's okay to format the internal sd card while doing my data wipe process (wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, format system) while flashing a new rom? I usually don't..but sometimes I want to start good and fresh and add that step to the already 4 step process..

If you're placing your new rom zip on an external sd then you're fine to wipe internal sd.

Also dont format it on your computer. Only format it in twrp or clockwork mod and backup your imei. I lost mine after completely wiping my internal card. Not sure if it was because of the wipe but they seemed to happen at the same time. Luckily I had a synergy backup.
Hello.
I just updated to Lollipop and have noticed something strange with my storage. I have a 32GB Nexus 5, but the storage says I have on 12.55GB of total space.
Since I have wiped the phone to flash it, I have no pictures or other media on the phone. Installed apps are taking up 2.68GB of space. Does that mean Lollipop takes up nearly 20GB on the phone?
Any help with this would be grateful.
Thanks
Wipe cache and factory reset / wipe data and storage. We answer this question twice a day.
OK. Thanks for your reply.
How do I wipe cache and factory reset / wipe data and storage?
Will I have to go into fastboot to do this?

Thanks for your help. That worked.
Now that the Note 5 has NO external SDcard support, how are we suppose to do a FULL and complete WIPE inside TWRP ?
I am talking about when I want to wipe data/media ( Format Data ) to install a new custom ROM on a completely wiped clean system.
I know it is not needed allwas but I like to format data sometimes to really remove all of the old system when I install a new ROM.
With the Note 4 you could just put the new ROM onto the SDcard and format the internal memory safely, and just flash the ROM
from the SDcard.
What can we do now ? If I format via TWRP it will wipe the internal SD area and wipe the new ROM also so I cant flash.
Thanks for any ideas.

Easy, do an advanced wipe in twrp and don't check mark internal storage or the OTG, only
check mark system, data, cache and dalvik and nothing except do a factory reset in twrp.
(doing it this way will not delete anything on the internal sdcard.
Good luck!
Have a nice Thanksgiving!
Haven't tried on this phone as I haven't rooted but adb push should solve your question.
