Storage space after Lollipop update - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello.
I just updated to Lollipop and have noticed something strange with my storage. I have a 32GB Nexus 5, but the storage says I have on 12.55GB of total space.
Since I have wiped the phone to flash it, I have no pictures or other media on the phone. Installed apps are taking up 2.68GB of space. Does that mean Lollipop takes up nearly 20GB on the phone?
Any help with this would be grateful.
Thanks

Wipe cache and factory reset / wipe data and storage. We answer this question twice a day.

OK. Thanks for your reply.
How do I wipe cache and factory reset / wipe data and storage?
Will I have to go into fastboot to do this?

Recovery

Thanks for your help. That worked.

[Q] Saving media to survive a wipe when installing new ROMsg a new ROM

Hi,
With the lack of an SD card, how do we save media to survive every wipe? Is there some way to set aside a portion of the internal memory which does not get wiped every time you have to install a new ROM?
Internal memory = SDCard.
It's just a SDCard that you cannot remove!
True. But is there some way to partition part of the card which does not get wiped?
Your sdcard does not get wiped unless you reformat it... when you wipe before installing rom's your wiping your /system /data not your sdcard
The only time your internal storage gets wiped is when you lock/unlock the bootloader. When wiping data/factory reset it leaves it alone.
Thanks a lot.

LG OPTIMUS, not enough free space AFTER factory reset

Please, help me, i have an LG P920 OPTIMUS, and i wipe factory reset using clockwork, and after the reset this is what i get LG OPTIMUS, not enough free space clean up your data and try again. I deleted everything in the sd cards and formatted them, still i get the error.. I can't download from the market thing, and i can't receive or send text because the storage is full, when it is not. please help
Reflash it
Hi!
What is your android system?
Try to reflash the system, when it finished, power on, let it boot to system, click exit on setup wizard, restart to recovery and do a factory reset.
After it done, do a reboot, and your storage now working.
It worked for me in official GB 21E.
On stock GB Roms, don't do a factory reset with CWM installed, it will keep giving that error. Flash stock recovery on your phone and do another factory reset. That always gets the job done for me.
try this:
1. first check in settings - app manager - how much is the total size of internal storage and SD card (sometimes corrupt installation can access only little of these space). then backup whatever you want to on the computer . download and put a rom.zip in external SD card.
2. if you have root access then boot into recovery , wipe delvik cache , wipe cache , factory reset and wipe system , format internal storage this will completely remove the ROM installed and all the apps. then reboot into recovery and flash the rom.zip from sd card.
reboot and enjoy!

[Q] Internal storage question

I recently got a nexus 5 and i intsalled the lollipop developer preview .. but then that wiped everything on my internal storage as well :/ so im just wondering if i go to TWRP and wipe data will that wipe my internal storage again ? (sicne nexus 5 does not use an SD Caard) and so will i have to backup all my SD card data before wiping data ?
Well I'm using clockworkmod recovery but I'm pretty sure twrp just wipes your cache and data plus factory resets your phone when you hit the wipe option... You won't lose photos or music etc etc as long as you do not wipe internal storage or create a partition on your phone
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
No, TWRP has the option for wipe internal storage. Its different than wiping data
Sent from my Android 5.0 Nexus 5

Bootloop - Fastboot access - no ADB - Keep data

I know, I've searched the forum already and am quite familiar with the tools and such, I just have some quick questions and I'll be on my may.
So I have a OPO which is stuck in a bootloop (Is able to boot successfully to Android but always reboots after a few seconds).
I just need to copy the data on it and I'll reinstall the device, I have fastboot access and can sideload anything. I already cleared the cache but didn't help.
So my thoughts are :
I do a factory reset from recovery, this should keep the internal memory (where the picture and photo's are stored) in tact, right ?
If this would not help, I'll sideload the signed system image and clear cache again to hopefully get a working system just to copy the files
Am I correct here ? (especially about keeping the internal memory when factory resetting it through standard recovery ? Thanks
Yes, factory reset doesn't format internal storage

Dalvik cache-too much space

Hello. I have honor 4c. When I had android 5 (rooted) there wasnt any problem. After updating to marshmallow and rerooting I have problem with storage. When I wipe dalvik cache and reboot phone, recreated dalvik cache have 800MB. After few days I have internal storage totally full(100%). I dont understand. Everything is OK, dalvik cache takes the same storage but during one night I have full storage.... When I wake up there is notification that the storage is full. I dont understand why the size of dalvik cache is changing. Can anyone help me? I dont want to delete that regularly as it takes more time to load all apps.
