Where Next?

Thought this thread would be useful for users to discuss their next phone as this device is now 2 years old. Also for former users to share their experience with their new device and how it compares to the One S. Or even users looking for a cheap second hand phone and wondering how this compares to the current phones.
I'm currently in two minds whether to get the M8 when it comes out in black or hold on for the M9 and hope that they get rid of that big ugly HTC bar and reduce the size of the phone overall. What is everyone else looking at?

It depends if you are patient enough, personally I like the Gun Metal Grey version of the M8. My HTC One S is pretty much dead with a broken power button, broken micro USB port and a smashed screen. I have applied for the One Plus Smash so if I get selected I will send you an invite if you are interested

I think this thread is a good idea. Many people in the development section talk about moving on to another phone. I can now include myself in this category as I have a Nexus 5 coming in the mail probably Thursday or Friday of this week. After I get it, I'm going to do a clean flash of the latest CM11 nightly on my One S, set it up as normal and keep it as a second device if anything were to happen to my N5. I'm just sick of the constant, little stability issues that this phone seems to have. It'll be nice to have a phone that has a much larger development community. I'm not sure if I'll use a custom ROM on my N5 yet, but if I do I know that I have many official options as opposed to buggy, unofficial ports made by unknown devs.

Get the M8, it's a great phone.

One thing that has always confused me, if you put the GP software on it, does it make the camera worse without the sense software?

Not tried it, I use insertcoin rom but I believe it only missing some stuff you most likely don't use but the depth camera still works just need to download gallery from the store to play with them type of pictures.

I wait for M8 Mini. Want to know the size of Mini (screen is 4.5" but want to know the "total" size). I like HTC One S, size is perfect and the aluminum makes it perfect. I will never buy iPhone or Samsung. So what is left, Jolla or Huawei or Sony.
So I decide to wait for M8 Mini. And keep my ONE S because of good dev's on this site makes ONE S live longer with great modified OS.

Yeah the M8 Mini will no doubt be a great phone also. Really interested to see what camera they put in it, ultra pixel or hopefully a regular 8/12mp shooter.

Sorry, I forgot to ask before, how has your battery life been on the M8? All the reviews I've seen have said its very very good.

It looks like M8 mini will come with 13M f/2.2 camera, same with Desire 816. It is very hard to get a phone to replace One S because there is little to none small size flagship nowadays. Only Iphone 5s, One Mini, Sony Z1 Compact and the upcoming Galaxy S5 mini, M8 Mini and Sony Japan A2 SO-04F(Z2 Compact).

Here is the original camera samples from Desire 816. The quality is very good and better than(not to the level of out-performed) One S but still no 4K recording(S4 400 doesn't support it) and 1GB ram. I'll definitely look for M8 mini but really not sure if I will buy it.
Galaxy S5 Mini is also not bad though. With 4.5" 720P AMOLED, S4 400 quadcore, 1.5GB ram, IP67 water resistant. Rumor said the camera remains at 8M but not sure about the quality, no official information yet.
Z2 Campact will upgrade to S801, 3G ram. Yet again we don't know if it supports 4K recording at the moment, if it gets the 4K I'll definitely give it a look.

If you worried about size here the difference in cases, best thing I can come up with since I don't have it any more.

This is what I found today.
The One Mini 2 is rumored to sport a quad-core Snapdragon 400 chipset, 4.5-inch HD (1280 x 720) display, 1 GB RAM, 16 GB internal storage, 13 MP rear and 5 MP front cameras, Android 4.4.2 KitKat and Sense 6.0 UI.

I personally thing I gonna wait until the Nexus 6 is released...
And the One S still not too bad today, so why not keeping it few months more. We had great Rom so far!
And the Nexus 6 will rock I guess!

For me my contract was up and was a good deal going at the time which made it free for a cheap ish contract.

The problem is that now XDA only doing camera mod on Galaxy/Note and LG G2, all mod developer been moved to there. You found zero mod again on HTC M7/M8 or even Sony Z1/Z2.
So, it is possible that we won't have cam mod on One Mini 2. If the camera without quality mod, the quality won't be big over One S with modded, it still performed somewhat better(according to many...actually not many... samples on Internet) but not to a large margin and hence, upgrade may not necessary though the focus speed should be improved because of newer Imagechip. I will still put Mini 2 on my waiting list but not sure if I will get it.
Because now if we all don't have cam mod on Mini2/S5 Mini/Z2c. It turns out to be Sony A2(Japanese model name of Z2 Compact) got the best result but the most expensive one. But in my opinion, it is also believable that Mini 2 won't be too cheap either, remember it is a full metal body, it may ended up only a bit cheaper than A2 which made it doesn't that worth the money(if you very like metal then you are good to go but on a mid-end device, price/performance ratio is more important to me). Pay more to get A2 may actually a more smart decision.

As long as One S still keeping us busy, I think we "still have time" to wait for better phone. Unlike some other phones who totally have been stopped the development, we are not yet in a hurry to force to upgrade.
We now have a workable(not perfect) 4.3 Sense rom as a daily driver and after One Mini 4.4.2 Sense6.0 out next month, we'll have a port from it and enough to give us more busying time in the second half of this year because this is a major upgrade.
So, the development will just continue in this year but I've to admit the life cycle might be finally reached the end in 2015 but it won't be in this year. If One Mini continue to receive updates in the future like 4.5 or even 5.0, we are possible to have some new development again in 2015 if lovely devs still around here.
I'm not sure when will I upgrade my phone. I don't like big phone so that's not many options available to me. At this time, I believe I'll simply just use One S til early 2015. If no more great small android phone out in the market, I may actually switch to Iphone6.

Personaly I think that only downside of One S is update break...phone has thin aluminium unibody,solid camera and display even for now day phones with some lower CPu for this days. My next choice probably will not be HTC couse thay overprice there top phones like samsuns S series...I probably buy some cheaper phone with top specs but with not so good case like G2 or Nexus 5 or just wait G3 to came out if there price will be like G2.
Oh I forgetten new company phone One Plus One...phone with CM11 and top specs like M8 but half price, I think it will be my phone if came to my country.

I bought the HTC One S two years ago and all I can say is that it is by far the most perfect phone I've owned. I'm using the Xperia Z1 now as I got it through the contract. Comparing these two phone the only thing that the Z1 has over the One S is the 20 MP camera. The display isn't that good although it has a 1080p display but colors are washed out and viewing angles are very poor whereas the One S has very good viewing angles and beautiful colors and the resolution isn't bad at all as the texts are sharp enough. Even the battery life is equl on both phones although the One S has a much smaller 1650mAh unit (two years old) compared to the 3000mAh in the Z1. As for the speed and performance they are both on the same level again. Only when playing graphic intensive games a difference can be seen but running programs and opening apps happens on the One S as fast as on the Z1. So overall I haven't noticed big differences between the two phones and I didn't expect such as the One S already great hardware even in 2014.

There is a M8 Ace coming out to solve the HTC over pricing problem. All nearly same hardware with M8(5" 1080P, Duo Camera, S801, 2G ram) but with plastic body this time, no metal. The price is around 3000RMB which equals to US$480.
The mass production of One Plus One is like kidding in China and Hong Kong regional. You hardly to get one since they only produce very small units.

It is not surprised because Z1 is more likely an engineering sample, Z2 is much more mature in every very aspects.

i have few question for z3 users

hello mates right now i have a htc one x and i really want to make it retired and leave it to my sister.
in my country iphone 6 is very expensive and with that specs for me its an waste of money, 6+ is very big , 6 is perfect for me but have something like 1800 mah or 1900 mah battery my hox already have 1800 mah and its a pain.
im stuck between z3, g3, and m8. z3 have superior specs than rivals and epic battery life which is very important for me. if you ask why? im using my htc one x nearly 2 years. with this months 21. day it will be complete 2 year. i never used my phone without power saving. getting into clash of clans and collecting the resources drains %10 of my battery.
right now i wanna ask you guys how is the z3? still it didnt released in my country (im from turkey,the land of great taxes) so i dont have any idea about phone. i just saw some pictures, watch reviews and read some specs thats it
my hox have a wifi problem which is a design fault edit: also i send my phone to the guarantee like 4th time because of wifi problem
did z3 have any problems? i heard about glass cracking problem but it only showed up 0.6% of the z3's
my head little bit mixed between this amiral ships.
for the m8 im really scaring about battery which is 2600 mah
but i really love its design. also im really get used to sense ui after sense z3's ui looks bit ugly
anyway if you guys can guide me i will be very happy

Depends on what you want really.
One M8 is huge and has a smaller screen than both Z3 and G3.
Z3 and M8 have much better speakers than the G3.
Z3 and M8 are more premium design than G3.
G3 has higher res screen, but there's no point in having 1440p screens on a smartphone.
Z3 has far brighter screen than M8 or G3.
Z3 has far better battery life than M8 or G3.
G3 feels much better in the hand compared to M8 or Z3.
M8 has the better software compared to G3 and Z3. HTC are very good with updates as well.
One thing I will say, all three phones are very easy to drop. Z3 is slippery glass, G3 slippery plastic, M8 slippery metal. G3 and Z3 are much easier to hold though due to them being much smaller than the M8.

I'll try to sum up my personal impression:
The Z3 is a great phone. Playing 3D games, I had like 10% drain in one hour. The screen is very nice, it's slightly cold white balance is only noticable when you have a warm light source nearby and it can easily be corrected with apps or the built-in settings. The speakers are clear and headphone output is great. Performance is awesome too, I haven't noticed any lagging.
If you're interested in technical stuff: Cores 2 and 3 are sleeping most of the time even with the phone in use and all energy saviing disabled, which in my opinion means that low-level CPU control is quite good. Charging speed is 0.5% per minute on the stock 1.5A charger. Call quality is great, though I'm just sending my unit back as people can barely hear me when I use the built-in micropone. On the headset that came with it (Sony MH750, not noise cancelling), sound quality is great.
I like the stock UI, but if you like Sense, it's likely quite a bit different. Unlocking the bootloader means losing a few features at the moment, but if you really want Sense on it, I'm sure there will be a port coming sometime - you're not the only one.
I have had zero problems with WiFi at home and university (eduroam) so far, but there is at least one more thread where someone complains about WiFi-performance, so it's a definitive statement.
I can't say much about fragility. I have never used a phone without a cover / case, though things tend to fall down from my hands. I'll see how the Z3 holds up to that. I also take the phone out of my pocket before I sit down.
Now, about battery size: You seem to worry about the 2600 mAh M8 battery vs. 3100 mAh in the Z3. Let me tell you that the software has a much bigger impact on battery life than the hardware, especially with two devices as similar as the M8 and Z3 (hardware-wise). My old HTC Desire HD drew around 400 mA with the screen on and in use, the Z3 with it's much bigger screen and faster CPU takes around 260 mA. If you can get your hands on an M8, install something like "Battery Monitor" or "3C toolbox" and see if you can get a few readings while using the phone as you would normally (normal brightness etc.). The Sense UI might use more or less power than the Sony one, for example. So while it's true that the M8 has a smaller battery, it doesn't mean that the impact on runtime is the same as the difference in capacity.
I did not compare the Z3 to the M8 before buying it because I don't like Sense since 3.5, and because I really wanted to have a long battery life, so I can't compare it any further, sorry.

thx for answers. i really liked the m8 i will look for it one more time so its still in list. how is the z3's durability? i always use my phones with case and screen protection.
is z3 and z3c's cpu better than m8, g3 and s5?

i never notices it have 2gb ram. i just check it you're right m8 have 2gb ram
so z3 have superior ram, camera, battery on m8 but what about cpu?

I own 2 G3's (F460S, D850) currently and here's my take:
The G3 has the best camera (OIS and laser for fast auto focusing , faster than any phone I've used)
The 2k screen is noticeably better (I had a Note 3 before this and you can tell the difference in resolution)
The speaker on the G3 is louder/better sounding than the Note 3 and S5 (I haven't tested it against the m8)
The G3 UI is very clean and simple without being too heavy.
The G3 is the size of the Z3 maybe a little smaller with a bigger screen.
I love my G3's but I'll probably get a Z3 as a backup phone however I don't think I'd use it as a primary.

I have had the d850 "ATT Brand" G3 for awhile now. Having had an HTC for my last 3 phones I was hesitant, but I've grown very fond of the G3. It is very simple u.I. great screen and battery life as well. Most features stock on G3 are what people were wanting on an AOSP ROM after rooting. I thought this was awesome! I'm coming from the HTC One and while the Boomsound speakers sounded great at first they deteriorated over time. The G3s speaker is excellent and with good quality tones or music the hi-fi shines and sounds great. Everyone will have different opinions or problems, likes/dislikes with any product. Actually they're all great devices I'd pick the one which best suits you. Good luck!

I would say go for the M8 or the Z3. Both are excellent.
The M8 handles gaming better on the battery, the speakers on the M8 are far better than the Z3, so is headphone volume.
Screens are comparable, but Z3 is brighter, M8 is better quality (White balance etc) in my opinion.
Can't go far wrong with either. Z3 if you aren't gaming too much, M8 if speaker quality and gaming are important.
Camera is probably a little better on Z3 except with moving targets.

i didnt get the "m8 handles gaming better on battery" part. i love gaming but m8 have 2600 mah battery, z3 have 3100 mah battery also got 2 power saver modes (stamina, ultra stamina)
i read on websites they said m8 have the worst camera compared to its rivals. z3 have solid 20.7 mp but m8 have 4mp with a ultrapixel sensor.
also i heard boomsound is worse than beats?
anyway its an old smartphone compared to its rivals. first i was waiting for m9 but it will released at 2015 first quarter.its a long time and i cant continue with hox anymore

The Z3 is a great phone. Playing 3D games, I had like 10% drain in one hour. The screen is very nice, it's slightly cold white balance is only noticable when you have a warm light source nearby and it can easily be corrected with apps or the built-in settings. The speakers are clear and headphone output is great. Performance is awesome too, I haven't noticed any lagging.
If you're interested in technical stuff: Cores 2 and 3 are sleeping most of the time even with the phone in use and all energy saviing disabled, which in my opinion means that low-level CPU control is quite good. Charging speed is 0.5% per minute on the stock 1.5A charger. Call quality is great, though I'm just sending my unit back as people can barely hear me when I use the built-in micropone. On the headset that came with it (Sony MH750, not noise cancelling), sound quality is great.
I like the stock UI, but if you like Sense, it's likely quite a bit different. Unlocking the bootloader means losing a few features at the moment, but if you really want Sense on it, I'm sure there will be a port coming sometime - you're not the only one.
I have had zero problems with WiFi at home and university (eduroam) so far, but there is at least one more thread where someone complains about WiFi-performance, so it's a definitive statement.
I can't say much about fragility. I have never used a phone without a cover / case, though things tend to fall down from my hands. I'll see how the Z3 holds up to that. I also take the phone out of my pocket before I sit down.
Now, about battery size: You seem to worry about the 2600 mAh M8 battery vs. 3100 mAh in the Z3. Let me tell you that the software has a much bigger impact on battery life than the hardware, especially with two devices as similar as the M8 and Z3 (hardware-wise). My old HTC Desire HD drew around 400 mA with the screen on and in use, the Z3 with it's much bigger screen and faster CPU takes around 260 mA. If you can get your hands on an M8, install something like "Battery Monitor" or "3C toolbox" and see if you can get a few readings while using the phone as you would normally (normal brightness etc.). The Sense UI might use more or less power than the Sony one, for example. So while it's true that the M8 has a smaller battery, it doesn't mean that the impact on runtime is the same as the difference in capacity.
I did not compare the Z3 to the M8 before buying it because I don't like Sense since 3.5, and because I really wanted to have a long battery life, so I can't compare it any further, sorry.

well i mosty use whatapp, 3G Mobile Data is nearly always online, and play some games after the htc one x experience im thinking twice for htc

The 2k screen is noticeably better (I had a Note 3 before this and you can tell the difference in resolution)

The G3 UI is very clean and simple without being too heavy.
The G3 is the size of the Z3 maybe a little smaller with a bigger screen.
I love my G3's but I'll probably get a Z3 as a backup phone however I don't think I'd use it as a primary.

well my friend is using a g2. i was recommend it to him when he was a bit confused between samsung and lg and he was a samsung fan.
he just love it, also he says "you must get g3, i test it and after the g2 experience i totally recommend it to you, you must be insane if you not think to buy g3"
also i loved the laser focusing but some users says in turkish forums they having issues with laser focusing.
well in my country these phones are bit expensive. i mean im pretty sure i will use it min 1 year so im just trying to do the right choice for myself.

I have never had an issue with the laser focusing and I have had a G3 since it launched in Korea back in late may/early June. The G3 is a good phone I do like the Sony as well but it has too many issues currently for me to buy it.

well im just worried about camera(13mp s5 have 16, z3 have 20.7), battery and if i read correctly there is a little lag at the ui (mainscreen, menu etc) because of the high resolution screen
also issues like what? i only know about glass crack and overheating when recording 4k. i dont wanna buy a phone with issue anymore. my hox still in guarantee because of wifi. this is the 4th time i send them.i requested device change this time

I have used 4k recording and my phone doesn't get hot. Keep in mind I had the SD805 version of the G3. Also while battery life isn't as good as Sony (I get 5hours SOT on a good day ) I can replace the battery in less than 20 seconds. I have 2 batteries since my phone is the Korean version and it comes with a spare battery and charger. This is why the battery life isn't a big deal. The biggest thing I want is a waterproof phone, I love my G3 and I plan to keep it but the waterproofing is what I like about Sony. My wife has a s5 and I hate the physical home button so I thought Sony would be a good choice.
My phone has 0 lag I uploaded a short video of the onscreen nav of my phone I'll post the link down below. Its very smooth (~48k on antutu is pretty good) and I'm running the stock ROM rooted with no performance mods. If I ran AOSP it would certainly be faster and get better battery life. Each has their own advantage I will eventually get Sony or another as a backup, I just don't want to go through the hassle of getting s lemon.

As I have already told before, those Chinese manufacturers are each time copying (imitating less) and willing more to highlight something from their own. Today Siswoo is presenting the Cooper i7, and before going into the review, I cannot hide... it's a bullet!
Hardware

And yes, you are right, 64 bits octa-core processor running at 1,7Ghz, GPU Mali T760, 2GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage (of which 12,82GB available for the user) and up to 64GB expandable via microSD, 4G-LTE connectivity ... appetizing, isn't it? Let's go with the review.
Packaging, design and ergonomics
The package is really simple and quite square, the one used by Elephone for the P3000s attired my attention, but this one goes back to the “standards”. Small and with the table of content and smartphone specifications.

Just taking it out of the box, two things surprised me: the design and the weight. It's really light, in a very first moment I even though it didn't have the battery, but yes, it was inside, and even so it stays on 130gr.
As we can see on the video, the device comes inside a small plastic bag and in the bottom inside the box, we will find the charger and earphones. It's very nice from Siswoo's side to include (already applied) the plastic cover for the screen.
Regarding the design, I must confess I didn't like it in a first sight, too simple and too... flat, with round edges.
BUT, once you use it, this feeling changes. And this design influences a lot. As said before, it's very light (although the different of size, exactly the same weight of iPhone 5) and with less than 9mm of thickness, you can carry it very comfortably on your pocket... and being a 5” device.
One remarkably thing on its design are the touch buttons. They are normally off, but when you use the phone or you have a notification, they light in an elegant and practical way. When not, the front part is completely black. On this front, we will also find the 5Mpx camera and the sensors for light and proximity.
Unlike other smartphones, all the physical buttons of the Cooper i7 are on the right side. In the beginning it might be confusing, since sometimes you want to press volume down and you lock the phone.
However, once you get used to that, it's very comfortable, specially because this terminal fits perfectly into one hand, and by having the buttons on the same side, you can manage it completely with just one hand.
The rest on the edges is free... except for the top part, where we find charger plug and jack 3.5 for the earphones.
Turn it. On the rear part, your eyes go directly to the 8Mpx camera with dual LED flash on the top, just below SISWOO logo and on the bottom the speaker and logo with “4G-LTE” like to remember us that we can connect to those networks.
Last on this part, I must say that the Cooper i7 does not slide at all. It's very agreable to touch and it fits perfectly on the hands, so VERY good ergonomics.
Screen
Cooper i7 mounts a HD IPS 5” screen, offering a resolution of 720x1280. It has very good quality, although I think they use dynamic contrast, because I don't feel as much range of tones as in other (first brand) phones. I mean, black is not as black.
The viewing angle is very good and I had no problems using it under bright sun, by having the brightness in automatic mode, it adjusts in seconds to any situation.
We will also find two interesting functions, "Gesture sensing" and "Smart Wake". The first one means that we will be able to navigate through pictures on the gallery and some other apps just by moving our hand over the phone (but without touching it). The second one, allows us to complete some actions by drawing pre-defined patterns on the screen when the phone is locked, like activate radio, camera, change song...
The gesture recognition is working but, at this point is not as perfectioned as in other models like new Samsung Galaxy, with the Cooper i7 you must pass your hand closer to the screen and slower.
The Smart Wake function is really interesting, I liked it a lot. I continually use it for many applications... and with just one movement!
Software, multimedia and games
This terminal comes with Android 4.4.4 Kitkat, although Siswoo has annouced we will receive the update to Lollipop during March.
They didn't apply any customization layer on top of Android (maybe it also influences the high speed this phone goes), in addition it is rooted by default and includes all the usual and popular applications out of the box (Facebook, Twitter, Whatsapp, Skype, Adobe Reader, Documents to Go and the interesting WeCal) so we can start fully using it just after the first booting.
Browsing the web either with WiFi or with 3G/4G connection, it's very fast and fluid, no lags, specially the background applications (like social network notifications)
In the multimedia area is where I really enjoyed myself. Since there were not pre-installed game, I went direct to Fifa 15:UT and another action game called Contract Killer... ¡bingo!
The initial test became some weekend hours playing online tournaments (specially Fifa, I really love it). The fact of being so light and so comfortable on the hands, make this smartphone the perfect portable gaming console, and as I said before, being so fast makes the games start very quickly and loading times are very short. While playing there are no lags, nor freezes and being moving images, contrasts and colors are perceived perfectly.
I have the same feeling when playing videos, the powerful CPU and accompanied with one of latest presented GPUs make the work without any trouble. FullHD, subtitles... even working through the network I had no problem with any type. Regarding the volume, it's OK and the rear speaker has enough relief (inward) so that the sound is not muffled by supporting the phone on any surface.
Coming to the extras, GPS and compass worked very well and once again, without having to wait.
So, in general, the multimedia experience has been very satisfactory.
Camera
The Cooper i7 brings (as usual) two cameras, the front one with 5Mpx and the main one at the rear with 8Mpx, both with interesting characteristics like voice shooting control, the beauty effect (perfect for selfie lovers) or the noise reduction.
However it suffers from the great evil of Chinese phones: lots megapixel unable to perform well in low light conditions.
It was clear that the "buts" would arrive sooner or later.
I have tried the camera inside and outside. Taking pictures outside and with full sun light, the results are very satisfactory for pictures and also recording video.
But when the light is lower, other "first brand" phones like iPhone (who also mounts an 8Mpx main camera) are capable of great pictures...and with this one we will simply prefer not to zoom too much on the pictures.
I would even say that I even like more the results of the front camera (with its 5Mpx and without flash) rather than the main one, so selfie addicts...good for you! Both cameras work perfectly with Skype, just pay attention you don't cover the microphone when holding the phone.
Autonomy
As seen on the specifications, the (removable) battery has a capacity of 2100 mAh, something I found quite tight compared to the more than 3000 mAh we see often on new terminals... but very good compared for example with the 1440mAh on the iPhone 5... and more than enough for one day. I already said I spent several hours playing online.
It's equiped with fast charging technology, nevertheless I would preferred to see the latest ultra-fast charging technology (around 80% in 15min or so).
Conclusions
In the first lines of this review I already stated than although most of Chinese phones have some common points, it is each time more usual to see brands willing to highlight their "personal touch".
In my opinion, Siswoo has been able of achieving a very interesting result in which is only their second model on the market. Not only on the design but specially on the usability, the user experience is very agreable.
We cannot dismiss from our minds that it's not only the aforementioned excellent potential, the Cooper i7 also brings us dual SIM and 4G-LTE connectivity for around 180€ (as per its price on Etotalk including VIP shipping DHL only took 2 days to arrive to my house).

Hi bodyjoao, from my point of view they are very different devices.
Think that Siswoo is a really new (young) company and up to now they have just launched 2 smartphones, being the first one the R8 Monster. In my opinion they did like that to show everybody what they were able to do, so top of hardware specifications.
Then they presented the Cooper i7 to show that they want to do also more affordable products, but without going to low end range. My impressions have been very good testing the i7, I insist that the weak point for chinese phones is always the camera, but leaving that on a side... I'm really enhoying the i7, it's very very fast on everything... and delicious to play with very light and thin hehe
The R8 Monster costs around 100$ more and... still I'm not sure the camera will be much better.

I have not had this issue... and since yesterday I'm thinking on it and surfing my Cooper i7 up and down to find anything :-/
The only I can think on is, go to Settings -> Display -> BreathLight and try to unable all of them, reboot the phone and then activate them again.
Normally it should light only to notify something.

More than 1 day with my normal use,... I mean a lot of wifi: Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Opera, weather and Youtube for the baby
I've also been using radio and trying 2 different GPS applications (Navmii and Navigate 66) for which I have not only tried the apps but also downloaded the maps for a couple of countries (so more than 1GB downloaded over wifi for those apps)
And planning the trip I have moved cartoons for the baby from my NAS to the smartphone using the wifi, so another 1GB moved there and the battery resisted
It's true it went faster when playing Fifa, because it was online and playing, but with normal use it's much longer.
So it's true that the battery is not as long as for other devices, but you see that also on its thickness, it's really comfortable to bring it on the pocket.

5" HD 720p is poor

Weak wifi on Cooper i7?

I just received my siswoo cooper i7 yesterday. I'm also lucky with until now except for one issue: the Wifi is very weak. It has an ok connection next to the router (54 Mbps), but if I move away 4-5 meters (staying in the same room even), it drops the connection or goes down to 12/ 5 / 2 Mbps. I also tried at my office, it wouldn't work if not directly at the router. All my other devices (Moto MB 526, XT320, iPad Air) have good connection even 2 rooms further away and work like a charm.
Anyone else having similar issues? Any good ideas to solve this?

If you mean with unified that all the available storage is on the same partition then it's a yes, available storage appears all together as internal SD Card and it all can be used to install apps.
The battery life depends on the usage. I consider it will last a full day with moderate usage (2 - 3 hours SOT, some gaming, some calling, some music listening), but no more that that.

Yes about the storage. Thanks.
On my daily life, I don't have high expectations from the battery.
But last year, while on route to an island, I drained the battery of THL W200 within a couple of hours just by looking at the ship's location and doing some reading.
Very disappointing. I have a portable battery back but still, I would like something bigger for vacation time!

Would the Moto X Pure be a real upgrade compared to the Idol 3 5.5?

I still like my Idol 3, even though it lags a bit since a little while. I'm rooted (using stock firmware) and started using Greenify, so I'll see if it's better with many apps "greenified".
But I'm tempted by the Moto X Pure (or Style, it's the same). The 3GB RAM (vs 2 GB for the Idol 3) and a better processor must make it quite faster than the Idol 3. And the camera is supposed to be better as well. I'm afraid the battery is worse than the Idol 3 from what I read though. I'm in Canada and the X Pure is a bit of a pain to buy because Motorola decided to only release the inferior X Play (only great thing vs the Pure seems the killer battery) here only...
What do you guys think?

Well, I'm sure Moto is better, but so it also should be, because at least here in Finland Moto is almost twice as expensive than Alcatel (Moto ~500€, Alcatel 280€)

But,the 5x and 6p are still Nexii,theyhave fingerprint readers,minimalistic design,decent cameras and good SOCs.
As for lack of storage,one can always use cloud storage or have a 32GB hybrid USB(normal USB on one side,and micro USB/USB type C on the other side) in the pocket.
I have the 6045K which has no sd card slot. When you want something,you can always find a way!
Also,I dislike the body language of the Moto phones(the fat-in-the-middle design).
A phone these days has to feel good in hand and look good as well.

32GB is not enough for me. I just got the new SanDisk 200GB.... I need front-facing stereo speakers and microSD slot. Too bad Nexus doesn't qualify...

Ofcourse it is. UI is smooth. MXP is fast and just better than idol 3. Even more noticeable now when I grab my wife's Idol 3 - which feels like junk (UI microlags everywhere and overall just slow). Sorry, but it's the truth. Idol 3 rear flashlight is brighter though! And I do miss the full screen rotation. That's it.

I like also the moto x pure/style. But when i would be you i would wait untill the new MOTO X 2016 is released, because then the old models get discounted.
I like the camera on MOTO X Pure (at most the 720p 240fps slow motion)
And of course there is much much bigger comunity of moto x pure users.

In my humble opinion it depends on how you use your phone for.
Let's say, I would never upgrade to moto x pure cause the 808 on 2k screen is same as 615 on 1080p in 3d demanding tasks. Also the faster and more pixelated screen are more demanding on the battery consumption. Also with cm 12.1 custom roms like pac man or slim (big thanks to @The Marionette the idol 3 is on pair with much more expensive devices - my friend has huawei p9 that I'll never trade for Idol3).
The sound from speakers and headphones is similar, and you have viper4android if you want the next level of sound exp.
Camera is better in low light, you have flash on front, and some feature advantages but I'm satisfied for the most with idol.
The build quality is noticeable better, but idol is lighter and thinner.
So it really depends on your demands and needs. As the Marionette said above, storage is up to you, I know some dudes that live comfortably on iPhone 6s with 16gigs ! That's like 2009 times.. You'll always have the downs and ups for something.
This all said, it doesn't mean I wouldn't upgrade for note 5(even though i would switch positions for capacitive buttons) or 6p or some 820 SOC.
Try the moto and figure it for yourself would be the most appropriate for you.

No. 808/418 pushing quad is not the same as a 615/405 at 1080p. You constantly get 20-30fps @2k on intensive 3D on MXP vs 8-15 fps max on Idol 3 @1080P. 3D stuff is just smooth. It is not the same. 615/405 @ 1080p is *somewhat comparable to a 801/330 @2k (testing a g3 proved that even a 801 at 2k is slightly faster than a 615/405 @1080P). Battery is slightly less I get 4 SOT on stock (rooted+all goodies) but that is not even an issue with quickcharge. Phones charges to full in 35 mins. 15 mins I'm up almost 50%. Multitasking is just night and day on a MXP vs Idol 3. In a trip have Pandora running, Waze, BT, then try to do something else... Good luck.

I had the Moto X pure. It is a really nice phone. The build quality is definitely better but it does cost twice as much so it should. Although the camera might be a little better I am very happy with the camera on the Idol 3. I really don't have anything bad to say about the Idol 3

True that typically a MXP it's 2 times as much but I've seen several deals for the 32GB version for $300 which is just $100 more for a way better phone. Here is one:

The Moto X Pure is not available in Canada by Motorola or any carriers, but there are unlocked 32GB models on Amazon.ca at around $625 CAN. Telus sold me my 16GB Idol 3 for $360 CAN. So here, the Pure is not double the price...

I just got a G4 today. It craps all over the idol......except for the battery. I barley got 2 hours SOT. What a joke.

I bought an Idol 3 4.7 in September 2015. I bought it because I wanted a lightweight and sleek phone; and, it was really light, weighing merely 110g. But it's performance let me down - the stock rom was really, really slow. Luckily, with pivoq's cm 12.1 rom, the phone got a new life. However, watching youtube and reading news was not enjoyable on such a tiny device. I am using the phone during my running because...
In Feb 2016, I did a lot of research and bought a MXS (Moto X Style). Contenders were Nexus 6P, Oneplus 2, LG G4 and Asus Zenfone2. MXS is still the best device in terms of value. Snapdragon 808 is nearly as good as 810. MXS has a microsd and has the best, loudest front facing speakers. The sound from headset is plain awesome - it will completely humiliate Idol3-5.5. MXS rom is nearly plain Android stock with some very nice additions such as chop-chop for flashlight and swirl action to launch camera. It also gets regular updates, but as not as fast as nexuses. I am sure I will get Android N within a month or so.
Compared with 6P, MXS has the same 5.7 inch screen but in smaller footprint and hence is very comfortable to hold. MXP's front facing speakers beats 6P hands down. MXP also has an SD card and most importantly MXP 32 GB is just €360 now, compared to 6P which is €650 now. In half the price, you'll get nearly the same features. It's true that 6P has a better low light camera and a fingerprint sensor, but I don't do too much of low shooting anyways and I have a smartwatch that keeps much device unlocked through trusted connections.
Other tow best value phones are Oneplus 3 and Zenfone 2. I hate Zenfone's software, hence will need rooting and CM13. It is also slower and bigger than MXS with a smaller screen. I was very confused between Oneplus 3, which is even cheaper, and MXS. Finally decided to take MXS due to stock android experience, better cameras and bigger screen.
I strongly recommend MXP over any phablet because of:
1. SD Card
2. Best screen to size ratio
3. Awesome front facing speakers
4. Amazing sound from headphones
5. Near stock Android rom, with regular updates, and very useful additions
6. Good simple and very functional camera app (no manual controls, btw)
7. Best Value (price to performance)
8. Front camera with flash
9. Good battery life, with marshmallow 6.0.1 update, the battery is superb
This was a short write-up of my experience with MXS over the last 3 months. I hope it helps people take a wise decision

But I started using Greenify a few days ago and since then, my Idol 3 5.5 is less laggy. Because of that, I'll probably hold on to it for a little while but I surely keep the Pure/Style in mind.

On the g4 that is terrible. This is my tipical day with basic optimization and 4 cores always active (factory kernel) I'm half day thru and SOT is more than 2 hours with bad LTE signal!. I always end up with 4 or 4:20 SOT. On an area with good LTE i hit 5 SOT. I can extend that to 5 (in a bad area) lowering cores and clock speed but I don't need it. Like I said, use your car charger for 15 mins and it goes up 50%.

Well, what leaked so far for the upcoming Moto X 2016 with the lack of stereo speakers left me quite cold...
There are some Moto X Style (same as the Pure Edition, but for Europe) on sale at expansys.ca for $440 CAN (or $349 US). It's said to be compatible with the major Canadian carriers for LTE and 3G. It's very tempting to upgrade my Idol 3 with this (my Idol is still sold $360 CAN over here)...

Stylo 2 Plus first impressions (T-Mobile)

My frustration with the GPS on the Stylo boiled over yesterday, to the point that I smacked the phone hard enough that it would no longer talk to the SD card. I was looking for an excuse to trash it anyway, so I went down to my local T-Mobile store, as I was thinking about the Stylo 2 Plus.
I had a look at the phone, and discovered that the Stylo 2 Plus does NOT put the GPS/NFC antenna on the back cover. :highfive: If there had been an antenna on the cover, I wouldn't have bought it, no way, no how.
I went ahead and bought one, brought it home, and set it up. I'm happy to say that the GPS on the Stylo 2 Plus is vastly better than the original Stylo. It locks on in under five seconds, where the old one often would take a minute even when GPS Tools was showing signal bars.
Keep in mind that it uses a Nano SIM, so if you're moving over from an old Stylo you'll need to call customer service to move your account to the supplied SIM.
Upgrades vs. the old Stylo:
1080p screen (vs 720p)
8 MP front-facing camera (vs. 5 MP)
Octa-core CPU (vs. quad-core)
GPS that actually works well
Phone senses when the pen is removed
Downgrades:
Main camera lacks laser autofocus
I don't have root/TWRP
The camera seems to have some sort of image stabilization, but it's not clear whether it's digital or optical. The camera app is still dumbed-down, but that's really not a big deal for me; if I'm going to be taking any pictures that need more than full-auto point-and-shoot, I'll use my Lumix for that.
So far, battery life seems to be every bit as good as the old Stylo was, The phone is noticeably more responsive (particularly when bringing up a Google News "AMP" story in Firefox). There's also less bloatware, and much of it is removable (except for Lookout, which I disabled).
The 3.5mm headphone jack is on the bottom edge instead of the top, and the sound is quite good through my Sennheiser earbuds.
I'm not sure I'm going to bother rooting this one. It was enough of a hassle keeping the OS current on my old Stylo that I'm inclined to just leave it alone unless I find a compelling reason to try.
The model display shows LG-K550 is the model number, but "MS550" is stamped inside, so I'd assume the MetroPCS version has identical hardware.
Overall, I'd say it's a worthy successor to the original Stylo, and admirably fixes the worst issue with the old model.

As far as I know, the phone still has 720p resolution. At least my Stylo 2 Plus from T-Mobile.
Unless I'm crazy and it's actually 1080p and just reporting 720p.

You can also activate a replacement SIM via "Chat," though not all reps have the "tools" to do so and will "suggest" that you call. I end the chat and immediately ask if the rep can activate a SIM to save time. If they can, they'll send a confirmation code to your phone via SMS that you enter into the chat and then they can activate it immediately. I prefer this way rather than over the phone because of frequent language obstacles and the (my) having to read a 16-digit serial number to them and hope they get it right. With "Chat", I can copy and paste and I know they'll input the correct SIM serial.
As a note, you used to be able to activate a replacement SIM entirely online, but they removed that apparatus and now require human intervention about a year ago for some reason.

Any USB OTG on the new Stylo 2? My original T-mobile Stylo with Marshmallow (stock 20g) is missing OTG, so I have to use my old Sony Xperia Z for my Flir One Android thermal imaging camera and my SDR receivers (RTL-SDR and SDRPlay).

No OTG support.

Is the camera better quality?

Without root you can change your resolution with ADB. I did it on the first Stylo and made it 1080p. Ran slower of course so I set it back to 720p. I got the idea from a thread about the LG G4 and how it ran better at a lower resolution.
And no, I'm not talking about my DPI.... but I do change that on my devices.

Just got a Stylo 2 Plus (MS550 MetroPCS model) off craigslist yesterday, did the full run of unlocking the bootloader/installing TWRP/rooting/installing Xposed/modules/enabling adoptable storage/etc and I have to say I'm very impressed with this device overall. It's still somewhat laggy I suppose even with 8 freakin' cores but that's too be expecting given the way stock ROMs always run.
Now that we have the unlocked bootloader and all the other things I certainly hope someone takes enough of an interest in it to do a proper CM build. I saw some posts from others that said one person was looking into it, doing some preliminary work but so far nothing major has been announced. Would love to get a custom kernel with some proper governor support since by default - and I don't know why they do this - LG sets the damned CPU to run at 960 MHz minimum constantly which is ridiculous and a waste of power. Yes I know this phone has awesome battery life already (mainly because of the 1280x720 LCD display more than anything else) but even so wasting power for no good reason and not allowing the Snapdragon 430 to drop down to maybe 300 MHz (I don't honestly know what the minimum is because I can't get any apps to read the hardware info properly) is just stupid.
I'm sitting here staring at the phone and I've got CPU-Z running and it's got 960 MHz on 4 cores and 1094 MHz on 2 others with the final 2 being offline aka "stopped" at the moment. I mean only CPU-Z is running (apps that I start up) aside from system services and they certainly don't require that kind of horsepower at idle. I know from experience of using other devices with the low and mid-range SoCs that they rarely ever clock up and down across the full range possible but it's because of the manufacturers of the smartphones and their crappy frequency handling that mucks things up.
Love the newer slimmer design over the original Stylo, but I note according to some posted information that the other variants sold outside the US have 3GB of RAM and can have the 1920x1080 panel in them so I'm wondering if it might be possible to find a parts supplier with one of those and do a panel/display assembly swap at some point. Mind you I actually like 1280x720 because it's faster in terms of response but I wouldn't mind a 1920x1080 panel in this Stylo 2 Plus if I can make it happen.
Definitely worth the money I paid for it ($80), unlocked it using the unlocking app, using it with T-Mobile's $30 plan, no issues noted. My only gripe at this moment is the lack of OTG support, that really bugs me pretty severely and it's the one thing right now that I am disappointed in not having (I use that extensively with other devices and SDR hardware with the SDR Touch app for radio monitoring). Would be nice to hack that capability but that's a foregone conclusion.
But absolutely a great product overall, and for some reason the sound quality is pretty awesome; I have all my CDs trancoded to Opus format and on the Stylo 2 Plus playback with GoneMAD is quite nice indeed so far.
Here's to someone making a custom ROM based on CM 13 or 14 a possibility.

No, as bad or worse. Laser autofocus has been removed, so it struggles to focus even in good light.
