My Nexus 5 running 4.4.4 has starting acting strangely this morning with anything to do with location services.
Only started this morning when I went to show a colleague the Waze app. Said my current location is Haworth, Yorkshire!?! I am actually at Watford Junction station Hertfordshire! Lol!
Even tried Google Now navigation and said 212 miles to home!!! So it remembers where I live?
I have never been to Haworth, let alone being there now.
Have tried rebooting phone, indoors and outdoors, turning off all location services and it is still showing wrong location?
Anyone have any ideas?

Have you tried in a completely different location, or go into Location settings and set it to Device only to force GPS and wait for a fix. It might just be your phone is defaulting to Wi-Fi location, and a new access point has appeared near to you that used to be in North Yorkshire!
Regards
Phil

Tried device GPS only, and not GPS/data/wifi, and picking me up fine. GPS on its own, mobile network on its own, both work fine, but not the 2 together?
It is very strange as it only started happening this week and only when I go into the mess/break room at Watford Junction station. And always Haworth! But now, as soon as I step out of the door, it sorts itself out within a minute or 2. But it does happens every time I go into there now! There is a wifi signal at work, but cannot pick it up in the mess room, so can't be that interfering?
It is not a biggy as not as if I need a satnav to drive my train! lol! And to see the weather, I look out of the door (no windows!)

So just got my TP2 today, had an xv6800 before with a custom rom on it to enable my gps. Now it always took awhile to get an inital satellite lock, but I can't seem to grab one at all with my new TP2. I use google maps for my GPS. I started playing with the settings, turned on my location, verified com port 4 at baud rate 4800 and even tried manually configuring this data into google maps instead of letting windows manage it, but still not getting any satellites. Looking at doppler radar over my area there is not a cloud in the sky so I don't know what gives. I even tried priming with gpsviewer, but even that wasn't working. I then noticed the quickgps app included on the phone. I clicked the download button and BAM, 8 gps satellites popped up. I read over this article: http://www.htcwiki.com/thread/939263/How+Quick+GPS+Works over at the HTC site to get an understanding of what it does and I guess it makes sense. Just still not sure why mine won't work without it.

Odd, I've had mine for about a week and the GPS has been perfect. Almost instantaneous locks...
I have to agree with normalguy. I didn't change any of the settings, aside from just turning on location services. I was sitting indoors and google maps got 5 satellites instantly, eventually topping out at 10+ within seconds. on my old titan, it took 30 seconds to even get 1 satellite.
NM, it works now =)
were u outside? i cant find satellites at all when im n the house, but go outside and bang 8 of them. walk inside and they r gone within 15 sec
Well, I did a hard reset on my phone and the GPS is now working so not sure what the deal was. I also installed the cleanup package at: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=84404 and it seemed to help even more. It also took my program memory usage on startup from about 80meg to 50meg so I'm pretty happy at this point. Now just gotta decide to live with the dead pixels on my screen or return it and hope for a replacement with less or none would be way sweet
GPS is really fast for me too glad the reset helped.
As for the dead pixels I have three of these at work and they all have a few stuck pixels.

Yah, guess they aren't really dead, more like stuck/hot pixels. On normal operation on a black screen I see 1 or 2, but boy when I turn the brightness up to 100% on a black screen I see 7-10.
make your device use gps or manage by itself, deselect com port 4
I'm having a problem with Google Maps on a Verizon TP2. Could someone list the exact settings on the TP2 and Google Maps that are successful. I would really appreciate it.
Thanks

Go into the Location setting for Phone: Personal tab, Phone, CDMA Services, Location Settings, Get Settings, set to "Location On". Soft reset. When the phone comes back up, you'll get some sort of message about the GPS being on. Say OK.
In Google Maps, select menu and make sure "Use GPS" is selected. For the first time, you may have to leave the phone outside for a bit . . . maybe a half hour or less, to get the first acquisition. Running HTC Quick GPS may help you get the first lock faster, and help you get subsequent locks more quickly as well.
Everything else should be left to Verizon defaults.
So my GPS was working fine for its limited use over the past few weeks that I owned the Inspire.... Now I'm having a rough time.
I downloaded a geocaching app called c:geo and was getting very erratic location locks on coordinates (it would tell me a cache was over 200 feet away when it was literally right on top of me).
Then, yesterday, while trying to use the GPS with google maps in my car, it continually lost signal, and would often not be able to reconnect.
This is rather troubling to me, as the GPS seemed to be working fine as of earlier last week.
exchange it
Update: Just went outside and stood with the GPS and it kept searching for GPS in google maps... I think I might be returning this and getting another.

Try downloading Fasterfix from the Market.
So this is quite weird... after downloading GPS status, I was noticing that I was getting NO satellites... I leave the app on for awhile, just fiddling around with things, and out of nowhere I get a fix on 7 (in my house).
I take the phone out to a nearby cache and it's accurate within 4 meters... ?_?
Don't return the phone yet. Do to settings>location the the very last option listed should let you reinstall / recover the locations app/ Doing this fixed mine perfectly. Also remember some cases interfere with the gps antenna
Went ahead and returned it anyway, may as well while I'm still in the 30 day period. New GPS works like a charm, at first.
Also I was not using a case.

For future reference, where is this exactly?
All I see in Settings > Location is
-Use Wireless networks
-Use GPS Satellites
-Phone Finder
That option appears in some of the DHD roms and not available in the stock AT&T rom.
Ok guys I need some help. I have spent the last 2 hours on the phone with HTC and AT&T (mostly AT&T). Here is the run down. I used to live in a town called Dunkerton. A very small town. When I lived there I had the inspire for about 2 weeks then I moved to Waterloo, a much much larger town. Since then, my current location on Google Maps and the HTC weather app is still my exact address in Dunkerton - 22 miles away from where I live. The only way I can even get the map or weather to update in the right city is using GPS. Obviously I should not have to do this (even though that was ATT's terrible solution).
I have done a factory reset, cleared the app cache, cleared google maps cache, hard reset, soft reset, every thing in the book and it still shows my locaiton as dunkerton. I am not using WiFI, i am not signed into my google account, i am not logged into htcsense.com. I have not done anything to the phone after restore except try to lock my location. I do not need it to be exact, i do not need it to even be on my street, but having it display the right city would be nice.
Any ideas?
Oh this is my second Inspire that does the same thing. I did not exchange it for this reason but the problem still persists.
GPS help....maybe
You might want to try logging into HTC SENSE as well as Google MAPS, then do a reboot. Be sure you have all 3 boxes checked under MENU>SETTINGS>LOCATION checked .
HTC SENSE has a location finder as a part of it's interface and HTC-SYNC needs to be installed and checked also as it provides USB drivers when you plug your phone into your computer.
Hopes this helps - Glenn
I tried that and still a no go.
If I turn on my GPS, obviously I get a lock within 3 meters or so of my location but if I turn it off I am 22 miles away. And its not like its just somewhere in that town, it is locked within 60 meters of my old house. This makes no sense.
open the actual weather app and hit the menu button and see if the city got added manually.
Yeah I have done that as well, my city does not show up.

It is pulling your location based on your router and the database is still showing your old residence.
Yeah I thought that too. I reset my router back to factory defaults and it didn't help. I even turn off the wireless and rely on cell signal only, still locks me to my old address.
I just drove around town here and as soon as I got away from my house, using only cell service, I locked on to my correct location but when I got home it locked me right back to my old address. Again that is with WiFi and gps off.

I just got my brand NEW Asus TF 16GB from Amazon. I did the update first.
Then I noticed that it displays the wrong location in the weather widget.
I have GPS, Wifi and Google location tracking enabled.
Anyone else got the wrong location with this Tablet? Any way to get it work properly? I have not tried a different location either.
oh and google map app shows the correct location so I guess it knows where it is. Strange...
I know I can set it manually but I would like to know if it can be fixed to work in auto mode.
Any how this is a great site full of TF information.
Thanks in advance...
VeeKay
yeah, I hope there is a fix for this.
Mine also pinpoints me fine on the map.
But, weather widget says i'm in a small community, two cities away.
And a search to enter location manually, finds my city no problem.
Of course I prefer to leave it on AUTO.
Tap the weather widget and you can set your location manually, or force it to refresh.
I manually set mine to my location, then turned it back to automatic and it's been fine since.
Thanks for the tip
I tried that but unfortunately it didn't work. It goes back to the wrong location
I all of a sudden started having this issue. When i'm at home it says that i'm in a city that's more than 40 miles away which I've never even traveled near with my TF.
I've tried deleting the widget, checking google maps, and still it puts me in the wrong location.
This started happening less than a week ago.
Mine has said "Asahi ku" since I got it... I have no idea where that is.
Does anyone have an alternate GPS program installed like Locus?
I uninstalled that and it looks to be working fine now.

Ok I spoke prematurely.
If I go into Google maps, it places me in the right location but for some reason, starts out in the location 40 miles away.
The Asus widget seems to be broken.
I have been living in home town with a nexus 5 as my daily driver for 4 month's but i experienced no error with my maps and gps location but two days ago i moved to a new city from then maps behaves in a wired manner, suppose if a ask for nearest bank or pizza hut it shows wrong locations even my gps in not working properly as when i move it doesn't move with me but for some time stays intact and then all of sudden catches my position, these error are just annoying as I'm new in city and makes traveling difficult..
Can someone tell me the cause of the error ...

Well, it seems that your location fix isnt really working as intended. Now we have to see why.
Please recheck your Location Settings, how are they setup? Go to Settings > Location and check. Try to set to high-accuracy and test again. You need a working internet-connection too to fully make use of this though. And of course, make sure that GPS is turned on, but i probably wont have to tell you that
As a good alternative, depending on size of city at least, is to store the map on local storage. Maps has an option for this. There you can select an area to be accessable without Internet connection, maybe try to use that and see if it works better.
I'd also had this problem. I needed to re-check Location, but also needed to Agree (again) with Google Terms, before I could get Maps/Navigation to work.
