So just got my TP2 today, had an xv6800 before with a custom rom on it to enable my gps. Now it always took awhile to get an inital satellite lock, but I can't seem to grab one at all with my new TP2. I use google maps for my GPS. I started playing with the settings, turned on my location, verified com port 4 at baud rate 4800 and even tried manually configuring this data into google maps instead of letting windows manage it, but still not getting any satellites. Looking at doppler radar over my area there is not a cloud in the sky so I don't know what gives. I even tried priming with gpsviewer, but even that wasn't working. I then noticed the quickgps app included on the phone. I clicked the download button and BAM, 8 gps satellites popped up. I read over this article: http://www.htcwiki.com/thread/939263/How+Quick+GPS+Works over at the HTC site to get an understanding of what it does and I guess it makes sense. Just still not sure why mine won't work without it.

Odd, I've had mine for about a week and the GPS has been perfect. Almost instantaneous locks...
I have to agree with normalguy. I didn't change any of the settings, aside from just turning on location services. I was sitting indoors and google maps got 5 satellites instantly, eventually topping out at 10+ within seconds. on my old titan, it took 30 seconds to even get 1 satellite.
NM, it works now =)
were u outside? i cant find satellites at all when im n the house, but go outside and bang 8 of them. walk inside and they r gone within 15 sec
Well, I did a hard reset on my phone and the GPS is now working so not sure what the deal was. I also installed the cleanup package at: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=84404 and it seemed to help even more. It also took my program memory usage on startup from about 80meg to 50meg so I'm pretty happy at this point. Now just gotta decide to live with the dead pixels on my screen or return it and hope for a replacement with less or none would be way sweet
GPS is really fast for me too glad the reset helped.
As for the dead pixels I have three of these at work and they all have a few stuck pixels.

Yah, guess they aren't really dead, more like stuck/hot pixels. On normal operation on a black screen I see 1 or 2, but boy when I turn the brightness up to 100% on a black screen I see 7-10.
make your device use gps or manage by itself, deselect com port 4
I'm having a problem with Google Maps on a Verizon TP2. Could someone list the exact settings on the TP2 and Google Maps that are successful. I would really appreciate it.
Thanks

Go into the Location setting for Phone: Personal tab, Phone, CDMA Services, Location Settings, Get Settings, set to "Location On". Soft reset. When the phone comes back up, you'll get some sort of message about the GPS being on. Say OK.
In Google Maps, select menu and make sure "Use GPS" is selected. For the first time, you may have to leave the phone outside for a bit . . . maybe a half hour or less, to get the first acquisition. Running HTC Quick GPS may help you get the first lock faster, and help you get subsequent locks more quickly as well.
Everything else should be left to Verizon defaults.

Hey all, I picked up my Fuze yesterday at a local AT&T store, and I'm really happy with it with the exception of one thing: I can't get the GPS to work. I've downloaded Google Maps Mobile, installed it. I ran QuickGPS to download the latest satellite data, and Google Maps still just sits there and says "Seeking GPS Satellites (0)..."
Any ideas or any settings I need before this works?
SOLUTION:
If you've installed AT&T Navigator, uninstall it. Be sure to call 611 and make sure that you were not charged the GPS service charge on this month's cycle.
Either the HTC guy didn't know his stuff, or this just happens to work around the "Telenav-Only" Block.
I've successfully gotten repeated locks on Google Maps without the use of Telenav. It's not even installed. Here's the procedure to get a (relatively) fast GPS lock:
If you don't already have it, download Advanced Configuration Tool v3.3 (or newer) (see here: http://touchxperience.com/en/advanced-configuration-tool.html) (needs .Net Compact Framework 3.5. see here: http://www.modaco.com/content/windo...act-framework-3-5-without-upgrading-your-rom/).
In the Advanced Configuration Tool go to GPS. Make sure the subsettings are as follows: (the last one is 32KB if you were wondering)
Assisted GPS: Enabled
Log file: \windows\GPSLogFile.txt
Old log file: \windows\GPSLogFileBack.txt
Max. log file size: 32768
Next, download and install GPS Test 1.04 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=129672&d=1226619670)
Now, every time after a soft-reset (or each day) you want to use the GPS, perform the following actions:
Run QuickGPS and download new satellite info.
Run GPS Test (ensure that GPS settings are on COM4 and a baud rate of 38400).
GPS Test will give you a bar and a signal strength indicator for each satellite. The fix process can take a couple minutes, but just give it some time. Upon getting a 3D lock, it will display "GPS Running".
At this point, you can exit GPS Test and open up Google Maps, TomTom, Garmin, iGo, whatever map tool you use. The navigation app should get a quick (< 30 seconds) fix with anywhere from 7-10 satellites depending on location. It will continue to do this until a long duration of time has passed (I'm talking 5-10 hrs (haven't tested)) or until a Soft-Reset.
This procedure worked for me. I don't know if it'll work for everybody, but I think it's pretty reasonable, the wait time isn't too long for a GPS fix. Good luck and god speed, gentlemen. Let me know if this works for y'all or not.

Mine does too - I think you may want to check out the numerous GPS threads on here on how people corrected theirs. I have been busy doing other stuff to worry about the GPS, so I haven't tried any of their advice, but there are Tons of threads on the GPS issue.

Mine works, but so far only at home sitting in an east-facing window. Have you tried calling HTC Support? I called about another matter and got an answer right away. The US number is: 866-449-8358.
Let us know how you make out if you call!

Most people are just complaining about lag, but there are a few posts about people having trouble getting a fix. It looks like tomtom and the gps tool are trying, but they just won't get a fix. I even stood outside in the cold for 30 minutes, and it never would work. I made all the changes with advanced config and also the manual registry changes... pretty much every suggestion I've found in all the other threads, but nothing works. If I happen to come across a solution, I'll definitely pass it on... but I'm less than optimistic at this point.
I had the same issue - I grabbed the Diamond TomTom cab (from diamond forum - no maps needed) and was able to see the progress of locking in the satelites.. It took about 10 minutes of the phone sitting outside to get a lock for GPS. Now that it has locked once (I have rebooted several times btw) it seems to pick up the lock a lot faster.
And.. I have not tweaked my GPS settings and a-gps is still enabled.
The GPS is a little shotty if you ask me.. I'm sure something will be changed in software down the road to speed up getting a lock.
I have the same issue
Google maps just keeps timing out
google maps wont work for me
Not sure if this will help or not, but I had mucked with my GPS com port settings (under Settings, GPS Settings).
For Programs: Com4
For Hardware: (None)
Baud Rate 4800
For Access: Manage GPS automatically (recommended) --- Is checked.
In Google Maps, I have the "Managed by Windows" radio button selected.
Doing that allowed me to pull up the satellites in about 10 mins the first time, then a lot more quickly after that.
I have no idea what that actually did, but it made GPS work in google maps for me.
I think it would be a good idea to get a program that shows you GPS lock status, so you can see which satellites are detected and their signal strength. Other than that, just leave the phone outside with a clear view of the sky for a little while and see what happens.

I had the same problem at work. I think GPS will work outside. Mine started working with Google Map and Live Search when I was driving.
If that still doesn't work, try install at&t navigator. Maybe it will unlock the GPS.
GPS solution
Hi all I spoke with HTC and you need to download and enable Telenav to activate the GPS. It did not ask me to sign up there is basic turn by turn once it is downloaded and gives you the option to upgrade. Once telenav was installed google maps found satelites within 30 seconds. hope this helps
Ah, that explains why it worked for me -- when I bought my Fuze, I let the salesman sign me up for the 30-day free trial of Telenav. I expect to cancel it, but I was curious to see what it was like.
Same worked for me. I tried the 30 day free trial and now the GPS works. TeleNav doesn't even seem that bad since it checks traffic for you...
No GPS lagging behind reporting your position like the TP?
I have not seen any lag. it is very quick
so basically telenav unlocks the gps and then after one use, it unlocks the gps for use with tomtom or garmin?

Seriously. Didn't you ask why?. Or question this since its an apparant marketing ploy. I heard the same for tomtom. It took my gps a while to to get the first time but after then it locked significantly faster.
i agree, it is shady, but in the end, it works. i got a perfect signal (locked into 6 satellites) with google maps, almost instantly (after connecting once with telenav).
its smart on at&t's part, but now i'm going to look at the cab and see if i can find what makes it work!
can anyone upload the telenav app so i can unlock my gps. i dont have the stock rom anymore(changed to natf rom) and telenav isnt on there.
I'm sorry if this is addressed somewhere, but I couldn't find anything solid while searching. I use my G2x every day with SportyPal Pro for my bike rides. I am currently running stock 2.2.2 with root and am having some difficulty attaining an initial GPS lock. It seems like when I go to launch any GPS app, it will not get a lock. To get it to work, I have to open GPS Test, select tools, and clear out the A-GPS data. After doing this, it looks almost instantly and will keep a lock forever.
The next day, however, I must do the same thing, and this happens nearly 100% of the time. The funny thing to me is when I open GPS Test, it will show a strong signal from a lot of satellites, around 7-9, but it doesn't use these signals to find the lock. Again, after resetting the A-GPS data, it works every time almost instantly.
I have just dealt with this but it is getting more frustrating. Today, GPS Test wouldn't load, just kept showing a blank screen and force closing eventually, even after fix permissions, clear data, uninstall and reinstall. Only after another reboot, would GPS Test even load. I can't explain because I don't know well how the inner software works, but the GPS seems to have a hard time relocating itself when using the cached A-GPS data. Any fixes that anyone knows of, or things I could try?
Thanks a lot in advance.

When you launch the app and go to the satellite view screen, press menu, and it is one of the options.

Sadly, I am having the same problem
I think I'm having the same problem too: I can pick up plenty of satellites (more than the 3-4 required for a lock), and they turn green, but I don't actually get positioning data available.

Well, I guess if you are seeing the same problem, it could be a software failure. Why can't Android phone makers release a phone with GPS that works out of box? Do they not test these things? Hopefully the Gingerbread update addresses this issue.
I have GPS issues often as well.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA Premium App
I don't have this problem but I have heard of others that do. My device locks in literally 3 seconds and is accurate to 5 feet. I have to say it's the best GPS I have ever used.
I think this problem is an android issue not hardware. I have to load gps test on my vibrant before being able to get a lock also. Wont lie the lock time on this phone is considerably longer but when finally does lock its strong and accurate.
via LG G2x
It takes me forever to get a GPS lock too. However, once it finally gets one, it's fairly strong and accurate.
Gps is way crap now.my vibrant beats the crap out of it... I'm getting like 40000 feet accuracy. It eventually works itself out but still crap..
In gps status in tools deleting the a gps stuff it takes a long time (5 seconds) vs my vibrants agps data. Vibrants clears instantly almost like the lg remembers too much causing conflict....
I cant find my location via gps in google maps. In the gps status app, it appeard to be locking as fix/sats shows 3/3. Ive cleared agps data and also tried to download agps data. Does anyone experience a similar issue? Any suggestions as what elsd i can try?
I dont think its the hardware because it did work the last time i tried about 2 weeks ago. Since then I tried to use a location spoofing app (that has since been uninstalled and mock locations disabled).
On the O2X the mongs at LG left out the gps.conf file, adding it manually sped up lock time no end. I guess it's possible they did the same on the G2X?
I actually exchanged a G2x yesterday that was having problems with GPS
Regardless of whether it was on stock or not, rooted or otherwise, my phone would not find any more than 4 satellites, and would never lock. Factory resets did nothing. My fiancee's phone, however, would find 8 or more within 10 seconds when both phones were set right next to each other. Both phones had a 4/05 manufacture date.
Because of that, I was pretty sure my issue was hardware, as I was never able to get the GPS to work properly. The phone they gave me yesterday (4/12 manufacture date) does seem to work ok, though the screen bleeding a bit worse (but that doesn't bother me *that* much)
On Froyo
- doesn't work out of box (can see 2-4 satellites but no fix)
- used lbstest menu, changed mode to MS assist, 10 starts 5-7 fixes within 3 seconds
On Gingerbread
- doesn't work out of box (can see 2-4 satellites but no fix)
- no way to get into lbstest menu
- tried different roms, best case is getting a fix in minutes with Valhalla but not stable (drifting, losing fix, not accurate, etc.)
So I'm thinking, to fix this on GB, if only someone can figure out a way of changing the mode (standalone vs MS based vs MS assisted) or better have full access to lbstest or its equivalent on GB.
cheers
EDIT
Forgot to mention, I tried GPS Aids paid version as well (on Valhalla)
Purchased, tried the auto fix option, nothing happens;
Downgraded to V2 (read somewhere that it works better than V3 which is the current version in Market), tried clearing GPS folder (or something alike), phone suddenly rebooted.
Then it takes forever to verifying license.
Then upgraded back to V3, noticed that I need to uninstall V3 before intalling V2.
Did that, and instantly got email from Market telling me I have been refunded cuz I uninstalled the app...
GPS Aids worked perfectly fine for me.
Here's what I do:
1) I use GPS Doctor, which is supposed to cause you to reboot.
2) I download the GPS Aiding Data for Forced Method. Native Method doesn't seem to work for me, but there hasn't been a difference in my GPS performance.
3) Use GPS Status, which detects the satellites around you. You should be able to see some at the bottom. They are white at first, but once enough satellites are around and you're connected, they should turn green (not all, just some).
4) Use your GPS like you normally would.
I hope you're using your GPS outdoors, instead of trying to fix it indoors. It's very likely that it won't work when you're indoors. I practically get instant locks when I'm outside.

By outside you mean walking on the street? I'm trying to get a fix while driving my car, you know, to get turn by turn directions. I hope a car qualifies as "outside". Anyway, I get a fix after several (lots of) minutes. I'm not going to paid for gps aid donate version. I paid a lot for my phone! (i'm not being cheap, it's just that where I live it isn't easy to get us dolars).
I think on froyo I had less waiting time for fix. But can't really tell. It's been so long since I moved to GB.
I think I'll end up selling my phone or giving it to my gf and get a sgs2 or galaxy nexus for myself.
have u tried a diffrent rom?

some types of window tint will block gps signals, so keep that in mind if you have tinted windows in your car.
Tried all the fixes that this forum has to offer -- well, most of them..
My navigation is not working at all.. its "searching for GPS" forever.. it never gives me a route to take -- GPS works fine -- Navigation doenst.
ive wiped my SD card -- reverted back to the normal adreno drivers (i dont think that affected my GPS when i updated it, but i downgraded just in case) --- tried different ICS ROMs and JB ROMs -- nothing.
I mind you, it DID work prior to me updating adreno and buying/using my new sd card --- thats the only time i can remember it fully worked -- I remember it working when i used ICS roms, so i know its not a version issue --- havent used navigation (since i updated areno and used my new sd card) but i had to the other day and it never gave me a route, i was pissed.
I installed GPS Test from the market, i had 0 sats in use and 0 sats in view -- i then installed Faster Fix and chose the North American server and that didnt fix it either -- i rebooted when i did the faster fix --
i put like 6 different roms on my phone and stood outside for a few hours testing each one.. none of them gave me navigation after waiting for like 10-15 minutes hoping my phone will grab some sats -- never did..
Like i said, GPS/Location is fine.. it finds me within 30 meters.. but once i choose to go some where and hit navigate, it searches for gps forever and never locks..
Any solutions guys..?? at this point im desperate.

Thats what i do.. the sats know where i am.. but once i try to navigate, it never locks, it just keeps searching even tho it knows where i am..
I click Maps --> it pin points me to where i am ---> i then hit the second option at the bottom next to the search icon (the diamond shaped figure with an arrow pointing to the right) --> i type in my destination ---> i hit the navigation option --> It never navigates.
^^ Hope this explains it a little better

From what you have just described, it sounds like your GPS is not turning on.
GPS/Location may have found you via 3G/4G network signals but that will not get you through navigation.
As you have stated, the GPS Test shows that you have "0 sats in use and 0 sats in view". That's not good.
So if you go to Settings - Location do you see the GPS Satellites enabled?
It could be a simple case of you needing to hard-reset the phone after you install the ICS roms?
Anyway I use GPS Status which is free from the Marketplace. If it finds the satellites, I know for sure that Googlemap will find them too. So too will Navigation as well as Telenav GPS Navigator.
Best of Luck.

WOW!! Well, before i read this, i installed GPS Status -- i then cleared the agps or whatever and downloaded another one.. i then re tested the gps/navigation ... didnt work..
I then remembered, "Wait, i did the battery connection mod (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1622683 -- this solution seemed to help my random reboots) anyways, the back of the phone was never secured on the phone itself because the little paper kept the battery from sitting firmly inside its place..
so anyways i just now took out that piece of paper, put the battery back in -- the back cover snapped right back on -- turned my phone back on -- opened up maps, typed a random destination .. and boom! the little blue arrow showed me where to go!!
Conclusion: idk if the reboot helped the GPS Status or the little piece of paper between the battery and part of the phone kept the little connectors on the inside of the back cover from a strong connection on the phone itself.. But all is working now!
Thanks everybody who took the time to help me.. i click the thanks button for you guys :good:
After taking out the piece of paper, lets hope i dont get random reboots again :fingers-crossed:
My Nexus 5 running 4.4.4 has starting acting strangely this morning with anything to do with location services.
Only started this morning when I went to show a colleague the Waze app. Said my current location is Haworth, Yorkshire!?! I am actually at Watford Junction station Hertfordshire! Lol!
Even tried Google Now navigation and said 212 miles to home!!! So it remembers where I live?
I have never been to Haworth, let alone being there now.
Have tried rebooting phone, indoors and outdoors, turning off all location services and it is still showing wrong location?
Anyone have any ideas?

Have you tried in a completely different location, or go into Location settings and set it to Device only to force GPS and wait for a fix. It might just be your phone is defaulting to Wi-Fi location, and a new access point has appeared near to you that used to be in North Yorkshire!

Tried device GPS only, and not GPS/data/wifi, and picking me up fine. GPS on its own, mobile network on its own, both work fine, but not the 2 together?
It is very strange as it only started happening this week and only when I go into the mess/break room at Watford Junction station. And always Haworth! But now, as soon as I step out of the door, it sorts itself out within a minute or 2. But it does happens every time I go into there now! There is a wifi signal at work, but cannot pick it up in the mess room, so can't be that interfering?
It is not a biggy as not as if I need a satnav to drive my train! lol! And to see the weather, I look out of the door (no windows!)
