I'm newbie here so if there's anything wrong please correct me, thanks
I'm planning to get the Z3 on amazon. After doing some research, I found that FGS Trading and Worldwide Distributors are most reputable sellers. I tried googling them and some complaints popped up... this made me a little worried.
So anybody ever bought thre Z3 on amazon? please give me advice

There's a retail company out there no-one's ever complained about? A phone manufacturer everyone loves? A model of phone for which there's been no faulty units manufactured?

In my area I can't found any retail store that sells unlocked Z3. I live in phoenix, AZ.

I believe you can only get unlocked versions online. Do not get the D6653 as it does not have the proper LTE frequencies here in the US. Retail stores would be the best bet since you can do exchanges easily. From experience with this phone, it is a hit and miss for quality of the phone. This phone is known to get the pink spots in camera photos, light leak on screen or bezel, uneven flaps, corner pieces bulking out, etc. If I were to look for a phone, I would wait for something new to come around. Sony has pretty bad quality assurance with this phone.

About the faults, did you mean the Z3 only, or the Z in general... I really want Z3 but after reading those of yours I feel worried...

Almost every phone has some fault. It will depend on how picky you are and living with it. The recent posts have indicated the Z3 has a lot of weird issues. You can look through the threads yourself. There is a guy on here on his 4th Z3; he has been finding issues with it like those issues I mentioned above. It is a hit and miss. For me my first one had a defective camera. My current second one has a good camera, but with the pink spot issue. Also the flaps for the USB is not evenly closed. I hope I don't push you away, but these are from experience.

I didn't get to know much about the Z2, as I came from the Nexus 5. However, I heard Z2 had issues before, mainly software issues, but it was fixed and now very smooth. I also heard Z2 is not much different from Z3, besides the look and battery life. So people coming from the Z2 said they should have stick with Z2, for reasons.

No worries. I got mine from an eBay seller when it was $599.99. However, the exchange/return policy is a hassle to deliver, wait, and receive a new one. My new one is not perfect, but I am trying to live with it.

Sorry to hear that though. Did you get it from Tropical_Mobile? and why not Amazon?
Nexus 5 used to be my dream, but after thinking for a while I decided to choose Z3 (or Z2) since SD cad slot, battery life and good camera play important roles for me

Before buying mine, I bought one from tropical_mobile for my GF, and found out I got the wrong version the hard way. I bought the D6653. However, the seller was very dodgy on return/exchange, and recommended me to sell it instead. I did not even open the box and took a big loss and sold it brand new. Then I bought two more (one for me, one for my GF) from techno.trading.house. They are very good with "hassle-free" exchanges/returns. I would go with Amazon, but it was whatever had the best prices at the moment. I regret it, however. Amazon might have been a better choice as they are more reputable.
Here is my current phone. It's just annoying to see the uneven flap closed.

Yeah since I have OCD (maybe like you), it's annoying whenever I look at that uneven flap... it's absolutely not a big deal, but...
By the way if you have time, please help me check those links... I dont know which one is a better choice since it's from different sellers. Wordwide Distributors and FGS Trading seem to be reputable...

Its ~$50 Taxes and fees at time of purchase then its $26.25 per month for 2 years ($630 total). So basically you have to pay it off if you want to leave TMO. You won't get it any cheaper outside. Also there is no interest on monthly payments. If you want you can pay the $630 upfront as well.

Why is there so much hate towards the Nvidia Shield ? I went to gamestop and see if they have any accessories and the rep replied, why would want to buy accessories ? The Shield is a piece of crap. It does have issue. Wait till the flex cables starts getting bad in another few months. The you can only use it while connected to HDMI. The flex cable is part of the LCD. So when the parts do become available they will be pricey.
So i bought a device for $200 just so it doesn't work in a few months ?

You might be one of the lucky ones. Seems to be split about 30% bad and 70% ok.
Why so much hate towards the iPhone when it first got out? Because it is a new, largely misunderstood product and those who call it crap typically never touched it.
The relevant thing about the SHIELD is that the vast majority of its owners seem to love it. The opinion of uninformed people doesn't matter.
Think also that Gamestop might not be very happy at the idea of a device for which you cannot come and buy games at their stores.

How do you come with that estimate?
If you have a problem with the flexi-cable, this is clearly a hardware defect and you should have your unit RMA'd. The feedback on NVIDIA's service has been very good so far.

Did you not even read any of the post I quoted? Based on the ones saying they have issue and the ones saying they do not it is about the split that I said it was. Also if you had read any of the post you would have seen that I bought the unit on Ebay under the impression it had a power problem which would be an easy fix. it however is not a power problem but a flex cable issue.
So since I bought used on ebay for 40 bucks, sending it in for repair or RMA is not an option. I will just wait till parts become available. Or throw it away and count a 40 dollar lose. No big deal for me unlike those who did spend 200+ on it.

Well I have read the posts and my answer was not specifically targeted at you, but first and foremost to the people who spent 200+ on it and specifically to the OP who was worried his unit could stop working after a few months.
It is possible that your unit is a pre-production one that was handed to developers. These are known to be of lesser build quality and had flexi-cable issues. The production units I own since launch do not show this issue so far and I am a quite heavy user.
Just wanted to point out that your estimate of failing units is anything but reliable, so hopefully people won't start making ideas based on it.
What's about those from Europe who get the white screen of death and try to RMA it, will Nvidia accept and repair it on warrenty?
I'd also have to go with the whole "The only people who hate on it are the ones who have never touched it" reason. I bought my Shield to replace my PSP and my HP Touchpad as an emulation/Android gaming device ~couple months ago and I've yet to regret the purchase. The main reason I didn't buy it when it was announced was because I thought the price was a bit too steep, but now that it's (still) $200 I think it's definitely worth it.

As long as you have proof of purchase from the US or Canada then they must honor the warranty regardless of where you live. What they will do is stick you with shipping cost most likely both ways.
I unfortunately do not.
I bought it off a german seller, but maybe I can ask there.
So my N5 is pretty messed up after the phone was physically bent. It is hardly noticable if you just glance at it but if you look closely it doesn't lie flat on the table when I place it on the screen and you can see glass is actually lifting off of the phone a bit. Now the real issue is the display and the touch response. As you can see in the attached pic, I can hardly see anything on it because of the black vertical lines covering 80% of the screen. For the first few days of using it after the damage, this was the only issue. The other day it started over heating pretty badly while I was using it until it completely drained its battery really fast. In the same day I noticed the glass lifting off (possibly result of the overheating?) and the touch response started getting pretty bad too. Now it randomly reboots a couple times a day.
Initially I thought it was only going to be an LCD replacement but it looks like it'll be more than that. Any phone repair experts have a clue what parts are damaged based on my description or how much I'm looking at for repairs? I'm just hoping it'll be reasonable (250 or less) or else I might as well move on and get a new phone even though I loved this phone.
I know that realistically the cost of repairing these problems are gonna be ridiculous so I've already started looking into different phones. After the announcement of the N6 with the size and price being confirmed I think I'll pass on that. It looks like it'll be the Z3 compact if I decide to get a new phone but I'm just afraid of the non stock skin and there doesn't appear to be any nice stock looking roms for it yet.
Any suggestions on what you guys would do in this situation?
Since it's bent, LG will most probably return it with a message saying it's beyond repair.
After yesterday's announcement, looks like Google has no plans on replacing the Nexus 6 with the 5 (like 7 made way for the 9). So, if I were you, I would probably get another Nexus 5 (may be with a different color). I love stock android and quick updates/tons of development and also the budget is an important factor for me. Hence, I would surely suggest you to buy a n5 again.
Ahh well, it's just me I guess. TBH, no one can tell you what to buy, it really comes down to your liking, budget and what you expect from your device!

I find n5 a bit large ...plus 4-5hrs sot was a downgrade from i9082 which easily touched 7hrs sot...
So if my nexus was damaged ... Z3C would be my choice
I want to send it to LG to repair just to get an idea of how much it'd cost but would they charge me for the shipping and labour of taking it apart to look at it? I won't go through with repairs if it costs too much. I'm rooted and running a custom rom but none of my damages are covered under warranty anyways so I don't know if I still need to unroot before I send it in or anything.
I love the N5 but not enough to buy another one a year after its been out unless someone is willing to sell their mint 32gb for under $250. Like rootSU, I just can't buy a year old phone if I'm shelling out money for a new phone.

I called today about my N5 that went for a swim with me and got the cold shoulder. I'd like to know how everyone is just getting a new device. Are you calling a certain support line I don't know about?
Hi everyone,
I want to share my journey with the Z3, and the experience with buying from eBay, specifically from a seller, techno.trading.house (Steph, Ed). I bought two brand new Z3 (D6603)--a black one for myself, and a white one for my girlfriend. The order was smooth, and the phones came in pretty much brand new (open box though) with their plastic peel-screens on the glass, untouched. After using the two for a few hours, I noticed that my black one had a defective sensor (photo). The seller advertised "hassle-free" exchanges/refunds, so I reported the defect and had the black one exchanged right away.
After a week, the new one came, the same brand new (open box) condition as the previous phones. However, there was a slight manufacturing defect with the USB flap--it closes completely at a slant (photo). I spelled out the issue with the seller, and here was how it went:
SELLER: I'm sorry to hear that! We will certainly replace it for you, I believe that your phone would be damaged underwater if that or any other flap was not closed properly. (I also do strongly suggest to avoid wetting the phone just in case). Please return the phone to...
ME (after 2 days delivered to them): Hi, have you receive the package yet, and have you ship out the new phone?
SELLER: Your return has been received. If you had chosen to receive a replacement, it will be sent within 2 days. If you have opted for a refund, it will be issued within 24 hours minus applicable restocking fee.
ME: Do you have tracking info? Thanks!
SELLER: Our records indicate that we have already sent a replacement. You have reached out to us to let us know that the replacement has the same issue. In order to avoid another occurrence, we recommend that we proceed with a refund for this item. Please let us know if this is okay.
ME: Sorry, I am not sure what you are saying. Are you talking about the previous replacement or the 2nd replacement being shipped out? I am currently waiting for the 2nd replacement. You said "sure" on the second replacement last week.
SELLER: We are talking about the previous replacement. We believe since both- the original phone and the replacement phone- has had the same issue, that a refund might be best. Let us know if this is ok.
ME: That is not correct. First phone had a defective camera. Second one had a manufacturer defect on the flap. You agreed for the second exchange, so I am not sure why you are backing out now? I need the phone as I have been using an old dumb phone for work for a week already.
SELLER: I'm very sorry for the confusion. I just read back through the emails and you are indeed correct. We will have your replacement unit shipped today. Here is your tracking number. Again, I am sorry for the confusion. Have a great day!
ME: Thanks. I just hope the new one does not have any defect--I will be checking it. If it's not shipped out yet, anyway you can inspect these? Thank you.
SELLER: Hello, Not a problem.

So the 2nd replacement came (third phone), and the phone came in a used/open condition. There were no plastic peel-screens on either side of the glass and the USB wire was laying in there without its plastic wrappers. I knew immediately this was used, so I began close inspection of the phone. I found that the power button had a noticeable dent on one side, as if it was dropped on a table before. At this point, I don't know what to do with the phone. I have summoned the seller to see what they plan to do with this situation.
It appears that the seller recycles their returned phones and try to sell them as new, or whatever it is. I am extremely disappointed with this seller, and I want others to know so they may not fall into the same trap.
I checked the current feedback, and it appears someone had the same situation (photo). Go figure!
To me this sounds like a fair seller and a picky buyer. 832 positive reviews and 6 negative ones in a month is a ratio I would buy at if I wanted to save a hundred bucks by buying without factory warranty.
It could have been an honest mistake. I doubt he purposely gave you an opened one, just work with him to solve the problem. eBay is much harder on sellers than buyers and he would ruin his reputation if he did it on purpose. Looking at his rating I would say it was an honest mistake.
I understand if he wants to refund you, he is just trying to cut his losses. At the same time it was your misfortune to get a bad device/s. Since this phone is known for cosmetic/other issues as its in early production you are better of buying from Sony/carrier making replacement easier.

I'm sorry to hear that. It was really a frustrating moment you went through. If I were you I would probably be really angry.
If you want, just buy it from Sony store. I got mine and it's perfect so far (except some cosmetic minor faults).
I bought two phones directly from the same seller. The price was cheaper on their own site vs eBay or Amazon. Both phones are perfect. They came in non sealed boxes. I've got no complaints.

I may be a picky buyer, but who wouldn't be when you receive a defective product, and even worse when you get a used one on your third one. Feedbacks mean jack when you are on the short end. They are only good for initial decision about the seller, hence I trust them like you would too.

Yeah, I really regret not buying from Sony store, or even T-Mobile here. At this point, I might just say screw it, keep the phone, and move on with my life. Maybe the Z4 will entice me in few months. :good:
I purchased 3 different Z3 D6603 from Techno Trading, Never-MSRP, and Sony Direct all off ebay.
Techno Trading shipping a Central America version of the D6603 (White) to me and it had no seals whatsoever on the box (US Charger). This model would not show LTE indicator until I flashed a generic TFT. Booting with Encryption shows the Pin Entry text in Spanish but quickly changes to English. Seller Feedack: Shipped very quickly but using subpar shipping materials. Shipped from Miami.
Never-MSRP shipped a Central Europe version of the D6603 (Copper) to me and it HAD seals on the box but also included a Sony Screen Protector (Non-US Charger). This model had the LTE indicator from start. Booting with Encryption shows the Pin Entry text in English. Seller Feedback: Shipped same day and was packaged very well. Unfortunately, they are located in Houston so I had to pay tax.
Sony Direct shipped a Generic North American model of the D6603 (Green) to me. This one had seals on the box but didn't include the Screen Protector. LTE shows from start and includes a US Charger. Plastic on the front and back of phone is totally different than the other two. Its hard to describe but the other phones came with a very very thin plastic protector. This model shipped with much thicker protectors on front and back (still meant to be removed because they have tabs on the side). Additionally, the other two phones were inside a cellophane bag but the this model was not in cellophane. Shipped from Sony in Romeoville IL. Shipped within two hours of purchase using FedEx for free. Unfortunately, Sony charges tax everywhere. Packaged well but not great.
My point...
Sony packages models different based on their intended destination. It might not be that you ever got "open box" devices but rather they were intended for an area which Sony (for whatever reason) chose not to use seals.

That is interesting. Before buying from techno, I bought a white one from tropical_mobile (in which I sold quickly due to being D6653), who stated they were located in Tennessee, but shipped from Singapore. However, the phone was sealed with two white rounded "sealed" stickers on the box. The phone also was sealed in a clear plastic slip and had protective screens on both sides.
This whole Z3 deal has been pretty bad luck for me. Maybe it is not meant to be. But good news--the seller techno.trading.house got back to me, and is willing to refund me $20 for the dented power button, or do another replacement. I'm planning to take the refund, and live with it as I am sick of all the exchanges. Who knows, the replacement might have even weirder issues.
If you spend $500 plus on an item, you the buyer, have every right on this planet to be as picky as you like.
Nobody has to settle for anything less than perfection.
So no, you don't have to accept a defective camera, or flap or indeed a previously returned phone.
As I mentioned before but was lambasted in another thread, Sony may be using premium materials, but they are certainly not using premium construction. Not when some people have to go through six boxes in store to find a unit without light bleed and gaps.
I myself had two exchanges within the first two weeks. My first unit was simply not waterproof and had a leaky flap and my second one didn't charge on the magnetic dock and now I have light bleed but no energy to fight it anymore.
It's almost as bad as an iPhone. All my iPhone friends have had multiple exchanges... Some as many as 5 in a year.

More recent feedbacks to prove my point.
stop accepting being called a picky buyer.... ur paying top dollar for the phone, that said u should receive a product good for the purpose, if the camera doesn't work its not good
if the phone isnt water proof it isnt good
if there is a dent in the design it should state it before being bought. so it's not the buyer nor seller (purposely) its a unlucky sale.
I purchased mine at t-mobile. I paid 100% upfront despite being with t-mobile and they unlock it on the spot. When I registered with Xperia Care (sonymobiles product registration) I entered my IMEI and it has till Oct 2016 on warranty.
However on the 2nd day of owning the device The bottom speaker stopped working and was making a static noise. I went to my t-mo store I purchased it and they swapped it out. I didn't even pay a restocking fee. The manager said as long as I get the same phone and since I bought it back so promptly that he would just swap a new one. This one has been perfect since. Sometimes the convenience of having a store near by is better than having to deal with shipping my phone back and forth!
Alot of people dont want the tmobile Bloatwear but like I said, 32 GB + Local customer support outweight > No bloatwear & 16 Gig with mail in issues. (since i have no sony store near by, id still have to mail in for repairs and exchanges)
Me too, I'm glad I bought it from TMO with an EIP, exchanged mine 3 times on my 4th now, no hassles or fees.
Hi
I got an Xperia Z3 that I would like to use rather than my Samsung Galaxy S6, mainly cause of the battery life. Even rooted, greenify, black theme, undervolted, underclocked, only 3g and a lot of features off, it still run no where as smooth, neither as battery friendly as stock Xperia Z3.
Since battery life is very important to me, since i'm out most, if not whole day and I have everything on my phone (bus pass and such) it's very important it keeps power the whole day, which it's just not able to, with my usage.
In my country the (the prices is above other countries, because of high taxes) price right now is $733.67.
The problem is that it's rooted so there is no warranty on it anymore (at least that's the retailers opinion, but that's another discussion) and there is pink dots all over the FRONT camera in low-light conditions (can't be seen outside at all.)
So what would you say the price is without warranty? If it was not because of the pink dots, I might just sell it without saying a thing, as most people don't use it anyway, but since there is a "serious" problem and with all the selfie hype, snapchat etc I dislike doing so.
So, if I should sell it, were the buyer was aware of the issue + knowing there is no warranty what would you say the price is ($733,67 from new).
Thanks in advance
I would attempt to get Samsung to repair it under warranty rather than rely on a retailer

My retailer sent it to Samsung, which sent a picture of knox 1x0 to me and my retailer and Samsung both denied warranty. Customer Care is running a case, but can take up to a year and it really doesn't matter as it works fine outside. I just want to get rid of the phone so I haven't lost so much again. The battery is too "bad" for my taste. With a few tweaks it's fine, but still no where Xperia Z3 experience.

I'm from Denmark. We got high taxes 38-60% of our income, but well our income is pretty high (compared to other countries) as well + we got 25% tax on everything that you buy in Denmark.
What are the prices, where you're from?
I paid 740 dollars (more or less). You could ask for 500 dollars, I think it's a reasonable price. Just flash a stock firmware on odin and hopefully the buyer will never know that your knox was triggered lol
I came from a Z3, and while it had a great battery, the screen and camera were terrible!

The thing just is, that the dots on front camera most people would notice on first day usage (when sitting on the phone in the evening) and when they either contact me or try to get a repair from the retailer and get denied and when they sure as hell contact me. Address and anything is on the receipt so if they want to, they can contact me. Can't just ignore some dude yelling outside my front door.

oh yeah I forgot about that. Maybe you could pay for the repair and then include the costs on the selling price.

Well that would be dumb. The repair is 292.16 usd and you say I should sell it around 500. So that would make it near new price, which no one would pay.
I just think I need to accept that i should sell it a bit low because of the no warranty part and the dots on the camera problem. Just how low, i'm not too sure.

Thanks will look into it, but yes I agree. Around the 500 mark if the buyer is aware of the fact that the warranty is non existent and the pink dots on the front camera.
They get panzer glass + cover with the phone, so it looks exactly as new.
Hey guys.
It started with a Basssound, and then my Pixel 3XL fell off the windowsill....
Today i reached out the repairingcompany from google CTDI in Germany.
I hope the repair will not that expensive. (Hoping for about 200 € without VAT)
Now i'm waiting for the UPS Service who will pick up my phone.
Sorry about your device, was it in a case?
Nope it wasn't.
It was my fault, after all, i should not lay down a phone on a sloping windowsill....
https://www.ubreakifix.com/google-repair/google-pixel-3-xl-repair
Google's recommended vendor says back glass repair is $100 USD (88€)
Screen repair is where the big money is.
A dbrand or slickwraps will cover that up just fine!
Edit: too bad the camera's broken... That's going to add to the $$$.

Oh 100$. I hope the price in europe is that cheap. Let's hope. Today i have still no message from ups.
I don't like covers, because they make phone big an hide the design from the phone itself. But of course i have then to watch for falling phones...
Actually the complete phone is working including the camera. It's just the broken camera glass that make photos look like from an 100$ Phone.
But i don't know if its from the drop or from december update, but there are lacks in the performance which is annoying at the moment. I will see after repairing if the problems are gone.
@MOD Is it possible to delete the strayed c in the title?

Ouch, those pictures literally made me say: "Ohhh, ouch!!" I'm sorry that happened to you... I am assuming you don't keep a case on it? After seeing lots of people complain about how easy it was to scratch the back up I decided to always keep mine in a case.
I wish you all the best and I hope it's not super expensive to get fixed.

I feel your pain...
Ordered mine on launch day and three days after having it I knocked it out of my hand, it was in a Spigen thin fit case which is really no protection. Completely my fault, I knew better than to hold it when I was doing what I was doing at the time.
Face first on a brick floor. Screen shattered, I'm glad I got the Preferred Care. $99.00 US and they shipped me a brand new one. At least I got to keep all the accessories from the first one and only had to send back the phone itself.

Nice! I always worry about being sent a refurbished device when they claim to send you a new one. I don't know if Google does that or not, but, I know other companies do and it's pretty frustrating. I have major OCD when it comes to new vs. not.
Good Luck!

The replacement was done through Asurion so they might send refurbished ones but I don't really think they had any at the time. I ordered it on launch day and broke it three days after I received it...lol.
I need to mention I haven't broken a phone in 10 years.

Good point on likely not having refurbished devices. Yeah, I guess it was just your turn after 10 years.
Have you gotten the replacement device yet?

Oh yeah I've had it for a while now. This happened in October.
Late response
I have a case now. And it fits in my reworked brodit auto smarrtphone holder i bought for nexus 6p
The repairing was okay so far. i contacted CTDI in germany which organized a ups pick up and the device was repaired in poland by regenersis. It costs 212,08 € without tax and with tax 260,86 € (23% in poland)
So, i hope it will not broken anymore...
