Hey everyone,
When I was using my Galaxy S3 with CM11, one feature I loved was Privacy Guard (http://localtechrepair.blogspot.com/2013/12/kitkat-android-44-privacy-using-privacy.html). It allows the user to specify what permissions an app would have and what it would have access too. Well, using my Xperia Z3, I don't see this as as option... has anyone noticed this elsewhere?
Is there a way to get Privacy Guard on an unrooted Xperia Z3?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Johnathan
I would like this also. Going from xPrivacy on CM to having no control over app permissions is annoying. I enjoyed blocking all the apps that don't tell you they track your location.

After long wait, LBE Privacy Guard v2 is finally available!
V2 has a completely rewritten core service, which makes it faster than previous version and consumes less memory.
However, due to the rewritten core service, the database format is completely different. So it's not possible to keep your configuration while upgrade.
Besides, LBE Privacy Guard v2 has changed package name (from com.lbe.security to com.lbe.security.lite), after you install new version, please uninstall older version.
---------------------
Change log for Version 2.0.1001
0. Fixed compatibility issue for custom ROMs such as CyanogenMod 7.1
1. Completely redesigned service framework with lesser battery drain and less memory usage.
2. Dual firewall support: Uid firewall for Android 2.1 and eariler, iptables firewall for Android 2.2 and later. iptables firewall allows you to configure 3G/WIFI permission separately.
3. Changing app permission now takes effect immediately, app restart is no longer required.
4. New traffic monitor allows you to track 3G/WIFI daily usage for each app on your phone. (you can turn it off if you don't need it).
5. Improved compatibility with Root Call Blocker
---------------------
Requirements
**NEEDS ROOT**
Works on Android 2.0 and above.
Tested on 100+ different devices and firmwares, but not tested on Android 3.0 and 3.1 devices.

I missed this so much and am glad to hear it works with cm7 now. It is available on the market on my HTC thunderbolt but It states that my Moto Xoom is incompatible. But it does work on the Xoom if I go to the site directly and download the apk.
Is it possible to manage LBE itself?
Can Android Firewall still be used as firewall and LBE only for permissions?

Thanks to the new design, although not recommended, you can actually monitor (and even block) LBE itself.
Personally I would recommend LBE's built-in firewall, but feel free to use any firewall app you want, LBE should work with them.

You say you haven't tested in on tablets, so here's my experience on an ASUS Transformer 3.2 with Prime: The application keeps saying "your phone is protected" every 5 seconds. It also crashes after I try to change the settings for an app and press the back button.
Curious: Why don't you test for? Can't you use the emulator? Or isn't that possible for apps that need root?
Ability to turn off bandwidth usage on the notification bar would be nice. Also, don't specify the text colour for the text on the notification bar. Thanks!
Can anyone provide a direct download link to the APK? Thanks very much.

LBE Privacy Guard
Nice, trying this out now.Thx
Very nice. It's good to see an app developed with privacy in mind.
I'm testing it right now, so far so good.
thanks for putting an off-market version
I prefer to use droidwall for firewall/iptables configuration...
However, even if you turn off the firewall in lbe there are a ton of lbe settings that keep getting written in the iptables.
Even after I format iptables the lbe settings get rewritten the next time lbe is run.
I will not be using this unless this is fixed.
Hi. somehow it stopped working for me.
I used it to deny the GPS for facebook app whitch worked perfectly but somehow it stopped working....facebook can get GPS again.....any ideas?

You have to turn off the Notification icon in settings...works for me on Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1
Best app ever!!
Great update. However, Dolphin Browser HD 7.0.2 does not work. The app is unable to access the internet both via WiFi or 3G. Permissions could also not be set because it's neither listed in the monitored nor trusted app lists. Refreshing the app list didn't help. Anyone else having this issue?
Update: I discovered that denying internet access to Dolphin's desktop toggle plugin causes the browser not to be able to connect (perhaps because the browser agent could not be sent thru the plugin). STILL, Dolphin is nowhere to be found in the app list. I wonder if that's got something to do with the browser's privacy issues which you can read more about here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1319529&page=3
Update 2: Removing the pluggins installed made the browser show up in the app list.
hi am in a search of an app that can control and let me decide which app to use 3g or wifi or both like in miui rom help me even have no problem with paid version
Sent From Somewhere In The Streets Of INDIA.
I used LBE privacy guard, with which you can controll everything the app wants to have access to! It stopped working in jb (maybe allready on ics) (causes reboot)! So you better make a backup before installing it or look in the changelog if its compatable!
any other suggestion

Try AFWall+ - an iptables frontend GUI. You need to be rooted for it of course,

Try Root firewall

Avast free have a firewall function that let you choose what app can use wifi or 3g. You need a rooted phone.
Battery Control
hey,
I used Juice Defender for along time. It even remembers the places of often used networks, such as work.
and firewall, but as already said, root's needed.
The feature I liked most about miui was that I could choose certain permissions and block them across all apps with one switch, then make a white list as necessary. For example an app going in to read my address book would get fed blank data until I whitelisted (so it wouldn't throw an error in the meantime).
How can I get this behavior from my z3? I looked at a lot of the permission managers and the only ones I found require me to painstakingly inspect and adjust the permissions on each app one by one.
Certainly miui is not the only flavor that got this privacy frame done right?
I haven't rooted but I would do so just for this.

First of all, root your device, then install xposed framework and the module,Xprivacy...
Hey guys,
I remember seeing a setting to turn the Wi-fi on based on location, but I don't see it anymore. Any tips on where to find this? I just upgraded to Lollipop and now I don't see the settings

You could try Llama from the play store. It's rather complex imo, but is highly configurable for location type profiling and free.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kebab.Llama
There is also Smarter Wi-Fi Manager from F-Droid which sounds like the ticket.
Thouse small apps are not working in lollipop :
-N. Memo small
-Movie viewer
-Small phone
-Photo viewer
-Movie Viewer
-Youtube Viewer
Just the small app notification appears but the small app is not working
Any solution?
experienced the same
+1 here. The small Apps sometimes work but most of the time just a notification will appear. Clearing small app manager data don't help. Restart also don't help
Actually most small Apps that don't work are from Sony.
Attached on the screenshot are the small Apps. Those in red are the ones not working and as you can see only one of those is not from sony (N.memo).

stock sony small apps work for me without any issues, its possible that by adding the modified small apps its broken the ones that should work, contact the developer about it
Some apps are working now after today updates
Thouse! apps are working now after they get updates from playstore

Keep it friendly in here folks
Firstly, if you are having issues then providing Logcats are essential. You do not need to be rooted, you can do it via ADB
Code:
adb logcat > logcat.log
Secondly, just suggesting to flash a new FTF or repair via PCComapnion is not fault finding. There are a whole bunch of other stuff to do first such as logcats, and disabling apps or mods one at time and re-enabling them. There are many reasons why repairing or flashing FTF's is not the best thing to do in all cases.
Finally. Do not argue in the open forums.
I hope this would help. Took a screen shot of my z3(small apps not working) vs my z3 tablet compact (small App working). Both devices are rooted with the same set of xposed installed and almost the same set of apps. Now I took shot of the running app in the settings. The small app supposed to be open is n.memo however on my z3 it displayed that main service in use is Google play services instead of n.memo which is what is displayed on my z3 tablet

I tried opening a small app that works(calculator) and took screenshot of the small app running app in settings menu. It displays the small app it activated unlike the other small apps that activated Google play services instead of the corect small app

Found the cause of this. I accidentally discovered that the cause for me was greenify. I turned off the advance future deep hibernation and restart. Then small app is fix again and working great.

I know this is an old thread, but I came across it when I was faced with the same problem.
Thanks to you, the problem has now been solved.
BTW, I disabled the deep hibernation option and tried (without a reboot) - small apps working as they should.
Thanks again.
