[Q] Water under screen - Am I screwed?

So here's the situation:
I was applying a screen protector from bestskinsever (huge fan of their stuff). You need to apply a small amount of soapy water to correctly apply the film. I finished applying it evenly and then turned my phone on, only to find (to my horror) that there was what appeared to be moisture under the screen, which made the screen look terrible when the backlight shone through it.
I immediately turned the phone back off, pulled the battery, and stuck the phone into a plastic bag full of rice (a solution I had heard of at some point). My hope is that the water will eventually evaporate and be soaked up by the rice, returning my phone to it's previous state of awesomeness.
What do you think the chances are of that? None of the water sensors on the phone or the battery were tripped by the water, but the screen looks pretty ugly as of last night.
Anyone else have to deal with this? Did I do everything right once discovering the issue?
Thoughts welcome.

I had this happen with my mytouch 4g. I applied a skinomi protector and when I turned on the screen I noticed the moisture under the screen and it made the screen look discolored. It did get a lot better after a few days but it still had a water stain on the LCD.

Don't think your standing a good chance. Are you sure the water is underneath the screen and not between the protector and the screen? If I were you, I'd remove the backcover. That frees the device's sides so the water might run out there. You might also try to suck it out with a strong vacuum cleaner Just be careful not to scratch your Sensation.

I strongly suggest you NOT to use vacuum cleaner because it may cause damage to delicate hardware of the phone. Because Vacuum cleaner creates static electricity.
As for the water are you sure it is under the screen not between protector and screen?
If i were you i would considering removing screen protector. If it is still there it means it is under scteen and since you cannot disassemble lcd screen i would remove back cover and pray for it to be evaporate.

whole reason why I stay away from water solution application based SPs.
they may stick better and all but the risk...
someone needs to come up with a better solution for these "military grade" SPs.
op, sorry to hear about your phone. I hope it fixes it self. if not, hope you have insurance. (I know it would suck shelling out another $130 for the deductible when you just bought the phone but...)

Are you sure? Never heard of that...

yes dude i don't mean to offend you if i did then sorry but once i used to clean my computer from dust with a vacuum cleaner or a hair dryer. Hair dryer is much worse but vacuum cleaner is no good either.

You certainly did not offend me, that's okay, I was just wondering whether it was just a statement with no real knowledge behind it or if it was for real, because I have never heard of such a thing. I may or may not be stupid
BTW, I have also cleaned my computer with both a vacuum cleaner and a hairdryer (with cold air of course) and didn't have any problems.

did u get ur phone get rid of the water with the rice and how long it takes i have same issue here.

This happened to me and it disappeared in about 8 hours I was freaking out till it worked well then my touch screen started to not detect my fingers so I hit up tmobile telling them my touch screen screwed up and they sent me another one for 5

If it is screwed the descent original screens are not cheap, the cheap ones on ebay are terrible...
HTC wont replace due to non manufacturing damage...
hopefully your phone has a catastrophic mboard failure and they replace it for another reason

looks like i may have gotten some water under my screen as well. i'm seeing "let it evaporate" as the only solution and "pray it doesnt stain your LCD".. what if it does stain my LCD? is there any repair solution? anyone have a link to a good training video?

HELP!!! Drowned my Sensation in seawater!!!

I accidentally dropped my brand new sensation in seawater for a couple of seconds. I took it out, turned off, took out the battery, SIM card and memory card, lightly rinsed the phone with fresh water (didn't dip it into, just washed off the salty water off the phone) and now I'm waiting for it to dry completely, because I can see still some water trapped underneath the touchscreen.
The service is still three days away until monday, but i was just thinking if somebody knows of what else could I do before I try to send it for repair. I was thinking of trying to turn it on once it completely dries off, or it is not such a good idea?

The dry rice trick

Tried that also. I buried it in rice immediately, it has been so since yesterday when this happened, but still has some water trapped underneath the touchscreen.
I fear the damage from salty water is much worse than normal water.

Sorry to say but you are screwed. There is no way this phone will work reliably ever again..

The rice trick has never worked in my experience,dont turn it on,get some DE-IONISED water,flush it with that it wont leave residue like normal water will,let it dry in the airing cupboard for a few days then turn it on

Can I wash it with distilled water? Would that be helpful?
Is there a step-by-step instruction on how to dissasemble a Sensation and the tools required? I found one on Youtube, but it wasn't very helpful...

Distilled water is different to de-ionised water,i used de-ionised on a sunk G1 which got into a bootloop from the incident after the washing with de-ionised water it worked and still does

you need to use the de-ionised water to remove the salt water to stop it from corroding heavily.

I dropped a regular cell phone in a glass of lemonade 10 years ago and here's what I did"
- get it out quickly take parts out and sling it around to get liquid out asap
- got home and put a pot of water on the stove
- when water was good and warm, vigorously shook it in the water for 10 seconds
- shook phone as dry as possible
- let dry, heat oven slightly then turn off and put phone in to speed up drying
- once dry, reassemble
- phone worked perfectly afterwards
not saying I would do this with a Sensation....just sayin

Water Damaged Phone

I dropped my phone into the ocean about a week ago. It's been in rice since then. I just took it out and it turns on and shows my home screen and gets data and is receiving texts and stuff, however neither the touch screen nor the four android buttons work. I searched and people were suggesting soaking the phone in alcohol for this. Is your any chance that would fix my problem? Maybe it could be as simple as replacing my phone's screen? Thanks for any help.

What I would do is take the phone apart (remove the backcover, battery and unscrew the screws) locate the digitizer flex cable and blow dry it. There may be water left in the component.

Probably a bit late but you want to clean it with de-ionized water or Isopropyl alcohol. To be honest i would have put it in a bowl of either of those instead of rice as soon as i got home. I've personally found the rice trick to be a myth,works just the same as leaving it out to dry. Sea water contains high amounts of salt and drying it will just make the salt crystalise.You need to "Wash" the salt out and the 2 ive suggested wont leave residue on the PCB (info from my mum who is an electronics teacher)

So, my girlfriend had her Moto G in her purse and a water bottle opened and got her phone wet. I completely. disassembled the phone and dried everything out with a hair dryer. There is still a section of the screen that has a weird mark on it and the screen will appear to flicker every so often. I know for a fact the connection is dry so what else could it be? She's using my Nexus 4 for now. Eeeekkk. She's clumsy and that phone is glass all around!!!

spot could be because water maybe got into the lcd itself? Or maybe the digitizer is right up against it

In theory it can be fixed, but it's very hard to do and you may end up destroying the lcd. You may have gotten water between the layers of the lcd and it won't dry easy and even if it does it will probably stay as a permanent blob due to the minerals in the water.
The way to fix it is to open the lcd itself and separate the layers until you reach the blob, then wash it gently with 99% alcohol and dry gently with warm air. I've done this several times, but few it didn't end well, depends on the lcd itself.
My advice is to disassemble the phone and leave it in an open-air bag of rice and leave in in a warm place for 3 days or so.
As a last resort you can try what I said above, just make sure to note how the layers were put and which side, so you don't mess it that way.

It's weird. I woke up today and it was completely gone. Either the drop of water that was in there migrated to somewhere else in the phone, or it evaporated. Thanks for the help.

Water Damage: Screen or Board?

I have a Samsung galaxy A32.
It went swimming 2 days ago , and now there are areas on the screen that wont register touches or swipes. Scrolling and swiping is janky.
Do I need to replace the screen or some other component? See image from a touchscreen test app.
PS: On the first day, it was unusable (nothing worked) and had ghost touches.
I even unscrewed the back panel and left it out for over 24hrs. Seems permanent.

Pull cover, disconnect battery, now.
Pull as many ribbon connectors as practical.
Get some anhydrous isopropyl alcohol (>96%), 93% if 96% isn't available but not 70/30!!!
Gas dry can be used if it's isopropyl alcohol with zero methanol. Do Not use methanol, it's corrosion.
In a warm, DRY room...
Flush liberally with it. Use best judgment if it get between display and glass it will leave a watermark. Use clean, dry low pressure air if available to gently blow out the alcohol. Otherwise flick as much as possible out by holding and snapping your wrist/arm ie centrificule force.
Allow to dry in a dry warm/hot room for at least 72 hours with a strong fan blowing on it. Reassemble and see watch you got...
