[Q] Running/emulating older java games and apps on Android - General Questions and Answers

this is something I'm very much interested in and have been for a very long time, I also see many people interested in it but the only app I've found that allows this only works on Froyo and other older android versions.
I was just wondering if this is actually impossible or if I'm missing something.
hopefully if there's no way to currently do this someone will figure it out.
thanks in advance.

[Q] is paperdroid no longer supported. any chance to maintain it?

hi, i don't know this is the right forum. i used "read it later" heavily in winmo (thanks to vizier and his latereader) and am now switching to android. it seems that the read it later client paperdroid is no longer supported by the developer in froyo. has anyone able to make it work or do you think some of our talented developers can make it work again?
Will it not install? Will it not launch? Does it run but just not work?
it installs fine but crashes right away after launching.
You should use logcat or any other log capture app to see why it crashes. It would help finding out what's going on and if its possible to fix.
FYI, paperdroid is running fine for me on 2.2 on my evo... Aren't there a few options for read it later on android? I thought I saw a few different apps for it on the read it later site.
Sent from my phone.
thanks for your responses. i will check again if it works or not (I tried several times already but if you got it working there may be hope). i will try logging the error reports also.
as for other ReadItLater clients, Paperdroid seems to be the only Android full RIL client. There seem to plugins for saving links etc.
Also, what phone do you have?
I have a HD2 and run Android off of the SD card. I don't know if that might be the problem.
I tried a different Android built and Paperdroid seems to work. So it's not a Froyo issue after all.
Thanks for all your replies.

[Q] appstosd 1.6

i am currently trying to create an app for android 1.6 and i am new to creating applications so be gentle lol. a major problem for those on 1.6 still like people with a G1 have very limited space available for apps, i see that apps to sd in 2.1 could be very useful if it were an app in its self as opossed to being a part of the os. cyanogen and their team of wizards have created a custom rom but what if you are new to this and flashing is either to hard or to risky for someone to perform? as i said i am new to this and could use a bit of help. i want to remove appstosd portion of a custom rom and use it as an app in itself. is that possible? someone please contact me about this if your interested in helping me develop something like this. we can share ideas via email and possibly work together to make those with outdated phones a bit happier with there less fortunate hardware.
Not exactly sure this is what you're looking for, but I came across this tut about enabling move to SD using the android SDK by editing the manifest xml file.
Sadly, I cannot post links, so you have to google "mobile.tutsplus move sd".
First result should be it.
ok it says that is supports all android versions from 1.5 to 2.2 but it only mentions 2.2 and says it must be 2.2 which is pointless cause 2.2 already has this feature standard. any other ideas my friend? i may have read it wrong, as i said i am new to this and dont fully understand everything yet. i appreciate your responce on this matter.

[Q] Acer D250 Market Installation

Salutations all,
After spending a hefty amount of time googling this to hell and pouring over similar threads both here and on other android forums i figure now is the time to ask.
Without the Market built in, or any sort of file browser to speak of:
how can I install the Market on my Acer D250 on the Android side.
Seeing as how it runs what seems like a custom version of 1.0 (with out any google apps) if i could just get the market and possible the standard google apps id be all set. If anyone has any ideas I'm pretty much willing to try anything at this point.
Thanks in advance!

[Q] Has anyone tried Android x86 for a desktop pc?

I was wondering if anyone has tried the x86 android 1.6 port on their pc. Also, can we expect to see further development for this? Like custom ROMs, themes, and an online market of some sort? It seems awesome.
I don't know anything about but I'd like to hear about this too...
I've been able to get the froyo version to boot through Virtual PC just fine. The only problem I was having is the lag from manipulating the screens with my mouse or even anything that may require hardware acceleration. Its a great step in the right direction.. but at this time its only something to play with.

I tested it a couple of times, but it's ment for subnetbooks, not PC.
But if I'd find people interested to create a PC-Distro, I'm there...
I didn't even know they made one! o: Could someone link me towards the right information
There's some YouTube videos and stuff on it, it's pretty neat!

[Q] Captivate - Market fix for 2.2?

I know that there is no official release of 2.2 (Froyo) for Captivate at this time, however I did apply the leaked version and am very happy with how it functions. However there is one problem with apps missing from the market, stupid little things like Fandango for instance (Love this app). In doing some research on this I have read that this is as simple as updating the build.prop file, however Im not really sure what needs to be updated in that file. Has anyone developed a fix for the missing apps and maybe I just have not found it? Any help with this would be appreciated.
Thanx!!
