Hi all,
First off, let me start by saying I have been messing with android phones for years, flashing roms etc, so I do know the basics.
This is my son's tablet and I've never messed with it, it has stock everything. He said he got some message about a system update, tried to run it, but now it won't boot at all, just hangs on the first Samsung splash screen.
It will boot into recovery, so I did a wipe, but it still won't boot. Interestingly, now when I try to wipe the cache I get an error, maybe because it's wiped already?
Anyway, long story short, windows won't recognise it even though I've updated drivers etc ("usb device has malfunctioned"), so I'm wondering if I can flash a stock rom via the stock recovery - there is an option to flash an update from the sd card? Everywhere I've searched talks about using odin, but can I do it without this? Or any other bight ideas? I'm not against installing a custom rom if I have to but windows not recognising it is a problem.
Cheers
Sometimes odin will recognize the Tab even though the pc won't, try downloading the correct odin for your tab and give it a try. You still have the option of flashing stock firmware with Odin.
Pp.
I've had no joy getting anything to recognise the tablet. Windows, Ubuntu, Odin, Zadig, several different leads and PCs, nothing wants to play ball.
I can still access stock recovery and the sd card. Is there any ROM I can install from stock recovery? I've tried a couple of stock roms but they have both failed. I really don't want to be defeated. :crying:

Do you have hangouts? I'll help you out.
Hi, thanks for the offer, I have hangouts on my phone but I'm at work and don't have the tablet with me
If it says malfunction in windows as you say so, Try using different usb ports.
If it doesn't work either try changing your tablet's usb Cable that should be the one making malfunction.
I've tried different ports, different cables, different PCs, it just won't be recognised. Windows gives a malfunction message, Ubuntu does precisely nothing.
So does stock recovery let you do anything? There is a 'flash from sd card' option so what exactly am I able to flash from there?
No you can't flash anything from Stock it will usually say error due to zip signature or something like that, Give it a try and try using custom recovery flashable zip and try to flash it from that option i think it's named "Apply update from sdcard" because stock recovery don't have flash option.
Name the file to update.zip and put on your sdcard, the is no danger if it fails as if fails it wont even start flashing anything
@langerer pm me your email address and I'll send you a Hangout invite. You should be able to fix it inside Ubuntu.

You will want thee front end for it. It is the GUI and if you dont have it you have to type out the commands in the terminal.
It is a little different than Odin because you have to decompress the tar file to get image files to flash. If you Google Heimdall android tutorial, you skulls be able to get it.

I know you said two different computers, but did you have the Samsung USB drivers installed on them by chance? If so, they don't get along with the Heimdall drivers and vice-versa. It might be worth checking and uninstalling them, then trying again.
I've been on the same screen you're referring to and was able to get it recognized with no problem. At worst case you could try ODIN if you can't get Heimdall to recognize it and see if you have luck with it. If ODIN recognizes it, you can flash an ODIN-based ROM (or maybe use the 1-click Gremlin Remover) to get going again. Then flash a ROM of your choice.

Hello everybody,
I am new to the forum and also new to Androids. After years of using iPhones and finally becoming fed up Apple, I've decided to try something new (please don't judge my prior smartphone selection and start posting opinions about the 2 operating systems, I do not want this thread to turn into one of the "battle of the phones" thread that I've experienced many times on iPhone forums). My friend recently got an S3 and had no use for his Galaxy S 4g, so he gave it to me so that I could try out an Android. There was one issue though, he said that the phone would not get past the Galaxy S screen and would keep re-booting itself (stuck in a boot loop). He said if I could figure out a way to fix it then it's mine.
That being said, here's my dilemma. I've tried many different methods to get the phone out of a boot loop. The first method I tried was putting the phone into restore mode and selecting the "reinstall packages" option. After this executes I get the message:
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1
(no such file or directory)
E:Can't mount SDCARD:update.zip
Installation aborted.
After some further research I discovered a nice little program called Odin I read a lot about Odin and how to properly use it. After trying at least 5 different methods to get the phone into download mode with no success, I purchased a jig. The jig did the trick and instantly put me into download mode, I was ecstatic and hopeful that I could now fix the phone with Odin. I connected the phone to my PC in download mode, but Odin still didn't recognize the phone (I tried many versions of Odin, 1.85, 1.87, and the most recent 3.07). I do have the latest drivers for this phone, which I downloaded from Samsung's website. The phone will charge through the computer but the computer does not recognize it otherwise and will not allow me access its mass storage (I am running Windows 7 64 bit). I have tried using a different USB cable, and I have tried to use a different PC, the other PC I used popped up with a message saying that Windows could not successfully download the drivers (that was after I downloaded the drivers from Samsung's webpage and plugged the phone into the computer). I've even tried transferring stock firmware onto an external SD card and loading it onto the phone from restore mode (is that even possible to do?). I have also tried running Odin in compatibility mode, still didn't detect the phone. I should probably also mention that Kies Mini also does not recognize the phone. I asked my friend if he ever tried rooting this phone and he said no, so I'm assuming this issue has nothing to do with a failed attempt to root.
I really want to get this phone working, but I have run out of options to try. I am hoping that someone on here has a solution for me from a similar experience. After reading through the forum, I have noticed that people on here are very helpful and also very friendly; something that I can say is very different from some of iPhone forums I've used. I apologize if there is already a similar thread to mine, I've read through many threads and none of the solutions have worked for me. I also apologize for my first post being so lengthy, I just wanted to state all of the methods that I've tried to fix this phone. Thanks for your replies.
Hi hubbs134
You have come to the right place.
First,
I suggest you read a little bit about this phone and how to put it in Recovery (by holding Volume Up + Volume Down + Power until you see the SGS4G splash screen) and Download modes, it will help you in the future.
You can find it all in the Wiki.
Second, use this guide to One-Click Heimdall your way to Stock KJ6 2.3.6 Gingerbread ROM (latest official ROM for this phone).
If you use this file (instead) with that guide, you will also get phone rooted, or else you will need to make another flash of a rooted kernel (as the guide suggests).
Now, if you have the official latest stock, but still want some ICS/JB lovin', if you have CWM recovery v5 (you will see the recovery info once you're in that mode), you can flash CM9/AOKP/HebMIUI/UltraGen/RemICS/CM10/Slimbin/etc. etc. etc. ROMs.
Enjoy and welcome aboard!
P.S what the @#%#$ were you doing with an iphone ?

It sounds like you can't use Odin because of a windows issue. Try installing linux. I use ubuntu

No need to replace PC OS...
1. Uninstall all your Java versions and Samsung drivers and reboot.
2. Reinstall Java 1.7u..
3. Follow the guide, it should work.
When you reinstall the driver through Heimdall - it will appear as Gadget device.
Good luck !

Ok I got the device connected and I got Zadig running, however, there is no option for "Samsung USB Composite Driver" on the drop down list, on "gadget Serial", "Gadget Serial Control (interface 0), and "1.3 HD Webcam (Interface 0)'. What should I do?
On the one-clicks, you don't actually want to use zadig. Apparently it conflicts, which is awesome for something that gets released WITH the tool.
If you're doing manual Heimdall, make sure you've told zadig to list all devices in the menus. Your phone should show up after that.
If you're using a one-click, make sure you're using a USB port on your computer where you have NOT installed zadig, Kies, or Samsung official drivers. Follow the steps in the one-click religiously, and it should cooperate.
Follow the guide %100 then Odin should work

Ok I ended up getting the phone to register in Odin. I flashed it with the stock rom in Odin and it said success. The phone booted and it seemed like it was going to work but then the recovery menu came up. I posted a screen shot of what it says, what action should I take from here? Thanks
I am also in a different boot loop now, before it would load to the first screen (black screen saying samsung galaxy 4g) then restart, now it boots to past the splash screen to where it says "Samsung" and then reboots back to the screen where the pink letters roll across the whole screen. I don't need to flash bootloaders do I?
Looks like recovery is broken or the updater script on the ROM you're trying to flash is messed up. Flash a new and the proper recovery via Odin then download a new Rom and either sideload it or mount usb from recovery and push it... Or you could just use Odin XD
EDIT: Samsung's are easy to brick and hard to debrick it may take a couple of trys

OK GREAT NEWS! After flashing with Odin and that screen popping up, I clicked update from SD card, which failed. I then click system reboot, which brought me into the new boot loop. I put back into download mode and re-flashed with One-Click. Same recovery menu came up as before but when I clicked reboot system it hung at the "Samsung" black screen (after the splash screen) for about 20-30 seconds and then booted up I'm afraid to turn the phone off and see if it reloads lol. Is it safe to say that it is fixed? Or should I still follow your advice and run the proper recovery in Odin and then sideload a new rom? Or take different action? Thanks for all your help guys! Everyone gets a thanks click for being so helpful and friendly on an unhappy/confused/pissed off/ now happy new Android user!
Ok I just put my Tmobile simcard in and the phone is not detecting the sim. Any suggestion?
The IMEI number and baseband both say "unknown", I'm assuming this has to do with the simcard not registering?

What Heimdall package are you applying ?
After JAR package runs you are ready to go.
As I wrote, according to guide you can reinstall "Gadget" driver.
EDIT :
Enigma, if you're not an owner of an SGS 4G please stop advising.
Odin is not the common way since we have MTD ROMs and it had its problems.
hubbs134,
blank IMEI is a serious problem. without a proper IMEI your device is everything but a phone.
Try this : take battery off, press the POWER button for 10 seconds, leave device untouched for 15 minutes and then put battery back and power up.
This could bring your IMEI back to life. If not... maybe another flash will help.
P.S
The 3e recovery image you put on post #14 is a snapshot of the the stock unrooted ROM recovery.

I can mount and unmount internal sd, cache, etc, but no drivers are being installed because it is not being recognized.

I'm waiting on my PC to free up again(currently on a Mac). I had not tried Odin because in the past I was unable to mount internal SD, which I understood was keeping it from being recognized. I instead thought the Toolkit would do the trick automatically, though I most likely had the wrong idea. Everything is mountable again (for some odd reason), so I will give it a go.
Could I accomplish downloading drivers and flashing rom to device using Odin alone? Or should I use the Toolkit?
Thanks!

Installing the drivers is independent from using odin. Install the drivers on the PC, fire up odin, connect phone (that has been booted into DL mode) and see if it connects. If it does, just flash a stock image and you are back in business.

Galaxy Tab 2 10.1
So what happened, my tablet started going very slow after the latest update so i decided to downgrade it. Because i was a bit stupid at that time i installed a software for a different device . After that, my tablet kept on restarting and after it finally went on the desktop, the desktop was re sized and the touchscreen wasn't working. I tried a lot of things to fix it. I went into download mode and i tried installing the correct software but somehow my tablet crashed completely. Now I'm stuck on the "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. lease select recovery mode in Kies & try again." I have no access to recovery or download mode and Kies doesn't recognize my device. It says connecting for 5 minutes and then it says connection failed. If i try to switch off the tablet it keeps on switching back on until battery dies with the same message showing up. Can anyone help me fix the tablet and have a full software thats working properly?
It's Emmc bricked and it's very very difficult to fix and I don't know how to do it.
While your tablet is showing the Firmware upgrade screen you should be able to connect it to Odin and flash a stock firmware.
If pc doesn't recognize uninstall Kies and install just drivers for tablet and try again.
Google can help you find and download the stock firmware.

That is scary, happened to me once, hold the power button for 10+ seconds. When the tab turns black, immediately hold the vol down button, hold it at the right time, if it fails try again, took me 5 or 6 times before I entered recovery. I just went to my guts, frankly I do not know what happened. Do you still have warrently? Can you send it to the JTAG service?
Somehow I could not enter download mode when I used any combination, so I relied only on the recovery to fix stuff. I would go to adb.
Perhaps this is a different condition, sorry. I am a flash junkie things work if you have cwm or twrp

While your tablet is showing the Firmware upgrade screen you should be able to connect it to Odin and flash a stock firmware.
If pc doesn't recognize uninstall Kies and install just drivers for tablet and try again.
Google can help you find and download the stock firmware.

No I used the TWRP application. Never had an issue with it on my nexus devices. My tab 2 is sitting at tomy1986.nt's house waiting to be jtag'd but he doesnt have the stock image. I bought another tab 2 just like it but when it got to my house the person sold me a tab instead of a tab 2 as the ad said it was. So thus I am stuck.

My next option is having the device shipped back and send it to http://www.mobiletechvideos.com/samsung-galaxy-tab-2-10-1/ and pay $75 for them to fix it. I know the device isnt worth it but its the principal of the matter of me breaking something and not being able to fix it. Thus I am offering $20 to anyone that can get me the files I need.
@ChrisJobe idk the application... Any link?

Thats the application

I have used this same application on all my devices and never had an issue until the tab2
If it's an app, i am sure uses real block name for flash.
On p51xx recovery sits on /dev/block/mmcblk0p6 - that's your broken block now.
You need to know, what's stored on /dev/block/mmcblk0p6 on your device...
After that you know what's needed (recovery too? Boot? Efs?)
I think you need to send it to a service center - i couldn't find anything for your tab: no recovery, no root... Simply nothing...
No root = no one can backup the block for you.

Hi xda members, im new in here and i was hoping for a bit of help
My phone is galaxy s6 SM-920T
I was reading on the net when the phone powered off and started restarting and restating again and stuck at book logo "powered by samsung".
I am not able to go into recovery mode but i can open the os download mode.
Tried many times with odin and no luck
I think due to the phone being full encrypted by me nothing can be done, is there any posibility? Thanks
The same here. I cant get into recovery. I had Terminator Rom installed. I can get into download mode but odin doesnt detect it. I eventoght the usb door was damadged so paid 60$ do replace it at samsung. But odin still doesnt not recognize it. Odin does recognize my Samsung Tablet 4.

I've had cases where you had to put the phone into download mode THEN open Odin for it to be seen. Maybe try that.
With it in download mode and plugged up open devices and printers and scroll to bottom and see if it shows up. Would be called gadget_serial. Some computers take a while to load the drivers for it as well. You may want to click little popup menu on bottom right of desktop by the time and date and see if it shows it is loading drivers for it. It will not show up until the gadget serial drivers are installed.
Thanks for the help. Nothing worked. It doesnt not recognizes the S6 only my Galaxy Tab 4. Could it be that the usb door wasnt repaired proprely ? Windows doesnt even detect the phone no gadget_serial. Nothing.
Make sure that You're using USB 2.0 not 3.0. My Note 4 worked through usb3.0 without any problem. And S6 doesn't. And if Odin reflash won't fix it. Get pit file and flash it with it.

So it doesn't recognize it all all? Doesn't give you unable to read device error or anything?

First thing to try would be flashing stock firmware with Odin.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/rb8iduv2o9i1ece/G920TUVS3DOJC_G920TTMB3DOJC_TMB.zip?dl=0
I recommend Odin 3.10.6

Sounds like DRK may be damaged.
Take the stock OKC firmware and open the archive with 7-zip or winrar and extract the system.img and boot.img.
Download and unzip this:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/bsreazoonsw4gwv/tar-Tool_Odin3-v3.07_by_mkh.mourad.zip?dl=0
Copy/paste the system.img and boot.img into the software directory and run the batch file. It will spit out a system.tar.md5 and boot.tar.md5
Flash the system.tar.md5 with Odin as AP then flash the boot.tar.md5 as AP.

thank you gonna have to try tomorrow due to bad USB cables, will let you know thank you so much for your help
If all else fails, just boot your phone into download phone and install Samsung Kies and restore it using that.
You will need the model & serial number of your phone. It will restore the latest stock firmware on your phone for you..

You cant, I suggest using a friend or family member's serial number that has the same model phone.. the serial number is a way of identifying the correct carrier specific rom.

Reflash your phone with one of this ROM will help you to make your problem resolved 100%
