Anyone experiencing some lags on the stock JB rom?
Sent from my GT-P6200 using XDA Premium HD app
i dont find it lagging but, when i play a movie with mx player pro, the screen sensitivities are decreasing really bad. on ics i can easily slide the vol up n down (same thing happened to contrast and fastforward) but not on jb, it takes extra push on the screen to do that.
is this normal or it only happens to me?

may be you can play the video using the sw acceleration instead of HW acceleration. That may solve it. Another thing is see the settings in MXplayer. There are a lot of values. May be change some of them may solve your problem. By the way i myself dont know about those values.
regarding lag on JB, mine is running much better than ICS,
please try this.. settings>developers options>change ,windows animatinos sacle, transition animation scale , and animator duration scale all to 0.5x or to 0.
Then get Nova Launcher, Then go to look and feel and change scrolling and animation both to faster than light. restart and have a few swipes
Running stock without these improvements I noticed a little lag mostly caused by touchwizhome launcher, it was s till better than ICS though.
Just few hiccups on the animations. Even the Note II, which I tried, lags a lot.
yea some time it freezes for minute and restart when i exit any app like browser
but i love this jp
because now i can watch movies at dolphin browser from putlocker and solarmovie.so
in 4.0.4 the movies wont load at all

I didn't mean all the time, just at some point.
P.S. Power Saving Mode doesn't slow down the speed, it underclocks the CPU. You won't notice it at all when you're just navigating.

Well not for me, i feel everything very smooth. Even animations on the note II .. underclock the cpu means that you'll have a slower graphics processor dude

Im on carbon rom and im thinking to change to another rom. Can someone suggest me what rom from this list has the smoothest ui and gaming perfomance. My priority is gaming.
1.Pacman sabermod
2.like s4
3.probam
I appreciate for those who can tell me the best rom with the review. THX.
Sent from my GT-I9003 using xda app-developers app
i'd tested all roms mentioned above and came to the conclusion that probam is the "best" , but for gaming you'll need to do swapsd with it.
Lola's best rom
@joe21o
I was on carbon rom. I loved that. I am currently on Like S4. (Anyway I dislike multiple dpi and dual panel features.)
Dirty flash was giving some hotboots and black screen but after a clean flash everything is fine and butter smooth with the built-in kernel. I think odex version is showing more responsive. Performance wise all three roms are same in my opinion. If I have to put the roms in a preference order it will be
1. Like s4 (odex)
2. Pacman sabermod
3. Probam
Much much thanks to Dhiru & Lola for their hard works for our device.
i guess proBAM, because they just gave lola an official badge, meaning a fast/quicker support, and also with a smallgapps, ROM usage is low here,

by just monitoring every app that is running,
I'm on a Xperia Launcher with Weather widgets and Walkman widget from the pro-BAM adds-on and some UCCW
use greenify app to put unnecessarily running background applications in hibernation which will free up some more ram and will also increase your battery life. hope this helps you..

For some it looks like as its a placebo affect, but when you launch CPU intensive apps such as Photoshop touch and other cpu intensive apps you start to see the affect.
Had some issues with the Facebook app on ART (seems to be fixed now), but otherwise, it's been flawless. No issues.
However, I will be honest and say that the speed improvements have only been marginal for me.
Thanks guys! Will enable it. Can't wait to root and install PA!

I can see a difference between ART and dalvik. Apps are snappier and battery life is slightly better. It's very smooth. The only thing on the negative side is some apps will not work (very few) and boot time takes a couple of seconds longer. Other than that, it's great!

Well I'm including when it optimizes the apps. Without that it definitely boots quicker but when it optimizes apps, it does add a couple of seconds.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
First thing I do after I flash a new ROM is enable ART Pretty much the best thing to happen for performance on Android since Project Butter on Jellybean. It's quite stable, and most of the big apps that used to be buggy with ART have been fixed. After the initial boot after switching to ART (which takes a few minutes, depending on the number of apps you have installed), boot time is quicker, and everything is just buttery smooth. If you thought that the phone couldn't get faster, you're wrong. It does something to the scrolling especially that just makes everything fly.
I've been using it for a few hours. HOLY THIS IS SMOOTH

Am having the same issue but am running stock rooted 4.4.2 with Franco r25. I heard that Xposed interferes with it. So I uninstalled Xposed and performed a factory reset, but I'm having the same problem, Art won't stay on as default and the N5 goes back to Dalvik.

All I had to do was remove xposedframework and delete gravity box .
Device: Nexus 5 16gb Black
ROM: AOSPA 4.0BETA w/ Franco r25
Ran Art from day one on a bone stock N5. In comparison to a similar N5 on Dalvik there was a slight difference. Barely noticeable.
Benchmark scores are different in favor of ART.
App sizes are bigger.
Yesterday I rooted, installed Xposed and Gravity. It isn't compatible with ART yet, so I kept Dalvik.
To be honest, you won't see a difference. Split seconds are not noticeable to us. How snappy do you need your phone to be? ART or Dalvik, you will see no lag.

I did exactly that, factory reset the phone but ART still isn't sticking it's really annoying.
It takes a long time to "upgrade" after installing nightlies. For me it takes an average of 15 minutes. It has to upgrade 229 apps.
Just like the Title implies. I am trying to get a good idea on what runtime users perfer.
I like ART but its a batter killer and some apps are not compatible. Luckily I am not concerned about incompatible apps because I have not come across one that I use.
I would like to know what you use...
Do you prefer Art or Dalvik and why?

768MB of pure RAM and sex appeal! ART is supposed to help memory challenged devices such as mine. My Nexus 4 broke, but I definitely noticed the difference in terms of RAM savings then. On this device, I don't. You like it on the M8?

See, I thought ART was supposed to use more memory
ON the M8, which is already stupid fast... It really brought it up a notch.
The best way to describe it is that apps load almost instantly. Its like the device is clocked to 3GHZ or something... It really is that notable.
Art

Dalvik. As others have said I've really seen no difference in performance or smoothness I haven't tested long enough to test battery. Maybe furture android versions might have better use for ART they still don't consider it fully functional I thought almost like beta phase maybe.
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Dalvik, for broader compatibility, and to be able to use Xposed Framework. Battery life is so amazing the purported gains of ART don't make it worth the loss of being able to make modifications.
My name's Harold and I'm a flashaholic....
Dalvik. Art breaks too many things, and on the 4 devices I've tried it on the speed benefits are negligible.
Dalvik, one incompatible app is one too many. Stability is always my main priority!
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using XDA Free mobile app
I prefer ART, but I need xposed so I'm on Dalvik. I personally see better battery on ART.
Sent from my HTC6525LVW
Dalvik
I'm using ART, basically because it's newer. Newer must be better!
Right?!
Anyway, I have no idea what the difference is between the two, but I actually thought ART was supposed to *improve* battery life. At least I thought I read that was one of the missions of the project.

Just to follow up, everything I can find on the net at the moment indicates ART should/does improve battery life. It's less of a strain on the CPU so that would make sense.
Scott you know a hell of a lot more about these devices than I ever will (and probably more than most of these internet sources) so if you say it's the opposite I'd be inclined to believe you.
I just switched to ART... Been about a week and I notice that there is no more lag when opening my keyboard and no lag when swyping... Only app I see crash so far is quadrant but no biggie....
Does ART effect the kernel possibilities? I want to try faux again but don't know if it will cause a reload of everything if it breaks
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk
I'm not using ART because frankly on this phone it's not necessary. It's just as fast without ART as it is with it, unlike my DNA. and I use Xposed framework modules so it's a no brainer for me

I'm far from knowing everything. I just read one article and it show battery drain statitistcs of art and dalvik on identical devices set up identically. Art drain was higher.
I dont know this test to be as all conclusive so take it with a grain of salt.

Art should not affect kernel. But I aslo see the gians you see. The keyboard is just one. Wake time to home screen is another, launching any app is amazingly faster.

A man after my own heart!
The reason I ask is on my next ROM build I want to include items that I know will not be ART compatible. Such as Xposed...
So I wanted to gauge the efficacy of ART vs Dalvik on the M8.
I don't know if it's just me but my phone is using alot of ram (no?). It's like 550-560 while all apps are closed. When I open any app it gets up to 650-700 and the phone goes really slow. Im using stock bulgarian 4.2.2, non-rooted. Apps installed: Viber,WhatsApp,Zedge,Subway Surfers,Candy Crush Saga,Badoo,Clean Master.
Thanks in advance.

Sent from my GT-I9105P using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
you can check which app uses what amount of RAM in settings > more > application manager > running
just remove Clean Master and don't worry about RAM. android pretty much takes care about that automatically.
Well, mine, running the latest, rooted stock 4.2.2 (I9105PXXUBNE1) also drives me nuts with its crazy RAM usage. Idling, it offers me puny 200 MB free memory at best, 300, if it doesn't hate me at the moment. I admit, I have lots of apps, but all of them are greenified.
I also use Seeder and SD-Booster to hopefully, squeeze some power out.
How could I possibly enhance its performance? And no, I'm not going to flash any custom ROMs, I like the stock FW.
I'm not using any hard mods besides apps and Xposed with Wanam, so besides these my phone is vanilla. And I factory reset my phone a couple days ago.
you could change the CPU governor. interactive governor gives a noticeable performance boost but it also slightly increases the battery usage. or you could flash a custom kernel (mosh kernel for stock) and tweak it even further with the 'performance control' app.
Mine hovers between 470-370mb free depending on how heavily I've used it since the last reboot (Using LiquidSmooth 3.1 ROM the 13.06.2014 build). The free memory numbers aren't that relevant - you shouldn't obsess over them. Besides your apps and ROM, performance depends on your kernel, governor, scheduler and the way your low memory killer, dalvik vm and cache are configured.

Ram usage!
I think its normal for samsung roms because they have a lot of services and a lot of samsung apps like s suggest, chat on, samsung apps, samsung hub, s voice... so it mighty can use more ram than its supposed to use!

For example, using an app such as Kernel Tweaker, you can customize your Low Memory Killer (LMK) to be very agressive - meaning it "kills" apps very quickly, even when you have high amounts of free ram - meaning you'll always have plenty of free RAM; or you can configure it to be very light, meaning it will only kill background apps and services when it is very necessary (e.g. when you only have 12mb of free RAM left.).
Other Dalvik tweaks are a question of finesse but they still affect performance in a subtle way.
I found it were the AVG (AntiVirus, PrivacyFix, Uninstaller, Cleaner, Zen) apps that made my phone so sluggish. I uninstalled them and now my phone flies!
