The s view cover scratch the screen? - Galaxy S 5 Accessories

I have read that the s view cover scratch the screen. Is that true? I would like to know your experiences.

Not the original one, clone maybe. Always used s-view with S4 and S5 now, no problem at all.

S-View Cover Interferes the Compass

I love my original s-View cover but it interferes my s4 compass especially with the cover is folded to the back of the phone. I can clearly see how the cover changes the direction of the Google Map compass while flipping the cover.

That's because there's a magnet in it to activate the hal sensor to tell the screen to go to s-veiw window
If you take a magnet and put it where the sensor is on the phone with the s-veiw cover open your screen will change like if the cover is closed

If the S-View covers work with the aid of a magnet, how does this one work?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=281100942769
As I understand, no magnets here and yet they claim it has all S-View abilities!
PS ... anyone bought this cover? If yes, is this latched on to the built in battery cover or does it reduce bulk by replacing the battery cover?
Thanks

Got to have a magnet to trigger the S4 S-View mode on the display. Doesn't say it's got a magnet in the listing, then again doesn't say it hasn't.... Looks like it's got kind of a tpu case which snaps round the phone and the cover is glued onto that.

I have this cover. It does not replace the battery cover, but fits over it. However, the "leather" is very thin, so the case doesn't really add much bulk. The s-view function works perfectly. However, I won't continue to use this case once a better s-view case comes out. The part that holds the phone in the case doesn't cover the corners of the phone, so they are vulnerable if the phone is dropped. And, the front of the case could easily open if the phone is dropped, so there is no protection for the front of the phone, either. I really prefer flip cases, because I ruined an expensive phone by dropping it, so I want something that protects the phone. I really like the s-view option, but this isn't the case for me.
I got a cheap copy of the S-View which fits perfectly and works just as good. Unfortunately it seems the magnet is too strong because the S-View mode activates when I fold the cover around the back!
Is there any way to fix this?
Yeah do what I did, take it off, throw it into the corner in disgust, and put a tpu flip case on instead.

Dude, do you have a link to the one you bought - does it work just like the S-View?
I have the cover from Tridea. Got it yesterday.
It is actually quite nice and protects the phone better than the original S-view case. However, this is magnetic too and makes the compass more or less unusable.

I'm wondering this too. I paid $7, versus $60, so I can't complain, but I would LOVE to find out that the authentic ones actually fix this critical issue.
Why not buy an original one, guaranteed to work. I have had mine since day one and works great, even when flipped back. I can post a video. If need be.

If you open a compass app, does it point to the right directions (south, north etc) even when you slowly rotate the phone horizontally?

Maybe it is different for you, but the compass on the S4 sucks with or without the S-Cover. It constantly need recalibrating on many of these phones.

I agree. What is the reason for this though? Is it a software problem that could be fixed with an update, or a hardware problem which is pretty much permanent?
My S4 S-View (original) cover definitely interferes with compass readings. As this is an original Samsung case I find this quite incredible how this has been overlooked.
With the case on and open, my compass app would always point in the same direction.
Gradual movement of the front cover from the open to closed position would quickly alter the compass bearing etc.
I decided to ditch the S-View cover for the standard one for the following reasons:
1. Affects compass bearings as described
2. Unable to see notification LED when the cover is closed. (it is in fact not enabled at all when its closed)
3. I'd rather see my full screen caller ID on an incoming call than the small S-View window. I know if you open the case you will then see the caller ID screen, but I'd prefer to see it from the offset.
Only drawback now is that I hate leaving the screen uncovered so I've put a screen protector on, and I can never get to fit one perfectly...I always seem to get one or two specs of dust that cause bubbles.

I am guessing it is a hardware issue because several people have the problem (there is a thread in the "general" section about it) and it doesn't seem to matter which app or APK is used with it, it has the same issues and needs to be recalibrated periodically to work properly.

Well, it's tough to purchase a legit one sometimes, and knowing IF that design flaw doesn't exist in an authentic version would make it worth it.
Edit:
Fixed it myself. I pried open the fabric, took out the magnet, put a nail between the magnet and the hammer to shatter it, and put back half a disc. Works perfectly.
I have the original S-view cover and if I slowly open or close the cover over the phone, the compass changes values, and I even got a notification in compass app regarding the magnetic field while playing with the cover.
Is there any way to repair this behavior while keeping the S-view functionality?

MOMAX Flip View Cover for Galaxy S4 Review

Hello guys,
I was digging through eBay for some nice flip view cover and found this one.
I really liked the blue/yellow color so for $16.99 I decided to order one (took only 12 days to Brazil! :laugh. Another thing I liked was the fact it doesn't replace the original back cover, it has its own case to hold the device.
The back case is translucent and has a different texture in the area that makes contact with the surface you put it on, so it wont make scratches on the case. That was well thought, imho.
The front flip is made of very good material, some rubber/plastic soft thing I don't know the name. The back of it is like suede, so it won't scratch the screen.
All parts are very well finished.
I am fully satisfied with it. :victory:
Well, check out the pictures of it in my Dropbox:
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ypqj4g3chxalevq/Cz5eEUhXa8
Here's a hotsite: http://www.momax.net/eng/product_detail.php?Id=393
Altough Momax is a Honk Kong company, I can assure you they make quality products.
They do have an online store, buy I couldn't find the case there, so here's the eBay link where I bought it:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/140987615518
Thanks for your review. Have a couple of questions for you.
Does the front flip stay fully closed? Can you manipulate the volume keys?
Yes it does and the sight works well.
If you look the 5th picture, you can see the volume up and down indicators. They work normally, as in the original S-View cover.
12 days to Brazil
good review!
Yeah I was shocked with the delivery time. It normally takes around 45 days...

How well does the front cover stay closed? Also, does the view window have plastic protector and is it getting scratched?

The magnet works as well as the original S-View cover, and the front door stays closed normally.
Either this or the original one will not stick closed to the phone, seem that the magnet is only for the S-View function, and not to keep it shut,
But I think I got your question: the cover is very plain, it is not bent to the point it would float in some parts of the gadget.
Yes, the window has a kind of glass (some really hard plastic) to protect the phone's screen.
I've been using it for a while already and it does not have any scratch, but I always carry it alone in a pocket...

BodyGuardz, ScreenGuardz Pure + The Crown Review for Samsung Galaxy Note 4

I'll be posting a written / recorded in-depth un-boxing & review of the BodyGuardz, ScreenGuardz Pure + The Crown for the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 in the coming days.
Though I have my own set of guidelines for the review; I don't want to miss out on any details that you all may want to know.
What are the aspects do you all want me cover?
(Please don't request for any Drop tests; scratch tests can already be found on YouTube for the Pure Glass Component)

I am interested in seeing this. I have lately been getting annoyed of the rubbery/plasticky feel of my screen protector and have been thinking about getting my first glass based screen protector :good:
I am sure you will cover these things but I am interested in seeing how the protector lines up with the camera and speaker holes and also how close it gets to the edges so i know if it will work with my case.
Bring it on..............the Drop Test !
One thing I'm thinking about is that the anodized coating of the Crown will wear thin/off if you use the S pen while swiping to use the Side Key Panel enough times. I'm certain it's going to wear especially if the black S pen tip is used. Time will tell, but I'm going to wait a while to see what others experience. Shouldn't take too long.
Hello.................Where's the review? The Note 5 is one the way.
I installed my crown today and there's still a halo... Wasn't the point of this to hide it? The crown portion itself doesn't go over the glass, rather it sets around it so as to make the transition from the edge of the phone to the screen seamless.

I figured the Crown was a complete failure. Can't cover up the halo inside of the actual display area.

I still have no halo on the new Crown screen protector. My only problem was that the Crown itself did not adhere properly, and I am awaiting a replacement that was just sent by BodyGuardz.

I think maybe we just expected too much from it. I don't think it ever claimed to be a glass screen protector that had no halo or one that hid the halo, but rather the only screen protector that has edge to edge protection which it does quite well.
Could someone post some pictures of it on the phone? I've been trying to find good pictures and haven't really found them for the Note. Would love to see the white

Poor adhesive on the crown maybe? Also, when cleaning the screen, that same area is often neglected. This is the second report of that same area not sticking.

I might not have cleaned the edges well enough, but my belief is that there is not enough adhesive on the Crown (especially with the stress of the phone going in and out of my pocket).
I have a replacement on the way.
I'll be trying my level best to post the written review (with pictures) in the next 24-48 hours. I'm betting that this is going to fit perfectly with the Commuter Series case.

The link leads to a similar one, unfortunately I haven't been able to find the exact same. I prefer mine over that because a) it has holes on sensors and front camera and b) because it covers the samsung logo.

It's good and very easy to apply. The problem is that it's terrible concerning the fingerprints, it gets dirty really quickly.
Moreover, it's not as clear as I'd like it to be, the difference with the naked screen is obvious. Anyway, I prefer a slightly dark screen over a broken one.

watch the jerry rig everything teardown. he does the same to his device. you will probably lose any water resistance though since you are tearing up the adhesive strip that holds the back panel on.
Get a case with a clear back, and have a custom skin made with the insides.
Put the skin on the back of the phone and the case on top.
They'll sell it on witrigs soon enough for like $45US

That would kinda work although it's too easy and fake.
I probably will if I break my back plate, because at that point, why not? I did it to my Samsung S8+, and loved it.
I won't be removing the back of the phone just to do it though. I prefer water resistance.
