MiniGuard Screen Protector Review [With Pics]

I recently purchased the MiniGuard Screen Protector (HD Clear) and thought I'd share my experience with it so far. All I can say is two thumbs up. This screen protector does NOT hamper the writing at all!! It does add a bit of resistance which is expected but I found that the added resistance actually helps because it makes writing on the Note 8.0 feel more like paper and more natural.
Furthermore, the cutouts are great, very rarely do I see screen protectors have such great cutouts (even around the button). Next to the writing, I drew several lines to show that the resistance of the S-Pen remains intact (note the fading and the thickening of the stroke). Also are there any Case available in India for Note 8?

It's slightly cheaper at Newegg, but the review there says the screen protector gets scratched up by the s pen (for the clear). But there are three in the package, so I'm going to try the anti glare ones.

I wonder about the differences in writing styles, particularly regarding how much pressure (or not) a given person applies while writing? If one writes with a "heavy hand" that would be more likely to "dig in" to the screen protector.
@JokeZony0u: How would you describe your writing style? Do you "bear down hard" when you write, or otherwise put a lot of pressure on the pen, or do you think you write more moderately?

Let us all know how your experience with the anti glare ones goes. I tend to like anti glare screen protectors, so long as they don't dampen the visual image under normal conditions (ie, make it too hazy).

Typically I write softly and don't apply that much pressure. So far I haven't had any scratches from writing on it, and I have been writing very often for notes in class and work
And like kisrita said, there's 3 in the package. So if one scratches, just switch it out. Also it isn't so bad to scratch a screen protector, that's what it's there for!

Nice review!
I've had this protector as well for ~2 weeks now, and without going into too much detail, it could be the best protector I've ever used on any device.
Easy install, great spen/screen response, clarity, etc... Not to mention you can't beat the price.
I've taken a good deal of notes and have not seen any scratches yet.

Anyone found any ebay links for us non-US folk? I havent yet. Is the film sold under another brand name at all does anyone know? :b

Well the brand is really called the MiniGuard or at least it's printed on the box. I can contact the seller and see if they're willing to ship international.

Do you only use it with the supplied spen or do you use other stylus' as well? If the later do you prefer a plastic nib or rubber? I've heard of issues when using a rubber tip with a screen protector as it can leave marks...

I love the review the protector is pricey but I guess it has really a great quality :good:

Thanks! I hope it's the same for everyone, I go on amazon to check from time to time and see that some people have poor experiences (it arrived bent). Mine came in great condition and still no scratches from the time of the review till now

How has your experience with the anti glare version been? How is visibility (eg, does the anti glare make the display more dim, less vibrant, etc.)? How well is the S-Pen working with the protector?

Sorry, I still haven't gotten around to installing it. I hope I find some time in the next couple of weeks and will report back then, but I have so many parallel projects going it may have to wait. (I have 4 devices with 3 different types of protectors and a dusty house that is forever in the middle of home improvement so I've been putting it off till I can find enough time to do all of it properly.)

That's very understandable. Thanks for letting me know! I'm going back and forth about whether to get a screen protector or not, but if I do anti-glare is something I'm considering (particularly for outdoor use).

I ordered this same screen protector and received it yesterday. So far I am really liking it. It gives enough anti-glare to be useful rather than annoying, colors are still very vibrant and the very slight bit of resistance it gives to the s-pen is very welcome. Iwould say it is like writing with a very smooth ballpoint pen on glossy paper. It has made my handwriting better and therefor fewer mistakes that need to be corrected. Highly recomended!

Hey, just to clarify: Did you get the Anti Glare one or the HD Clear one? I would assume Anti Glare since you mention that, but I'd just like to be sure. There are a lot more reviews for the HD Clear type and some of the few reviews for the Anti Glare are not so positive (eg, one reviewer complained of the S-Pen leaving scratches in the screen protector). I think I'd prefer Anti Glare though. Thanks!

Just made a review of the ScreenMate Tempered Glass Screen Protector for the Galaxy S4 by iloome.

You will get dust/lint around the home button and the home button sticker that's included doesn't help cover it up.
I have been using this for about 2 weeks and I am blown away of how well this screen protector preforms! 100% absolutely bubble free, very scratch resistant, super easy to apply, and looks like a product that could last forever.

looks good! could you post some pics as well? specially around the earpiece? and do you get any decrease in response from the sensors as they are covered?

I just got it as well.
The only thing I'm surprised about is that, contrary to several threads here, it does NOT have Rounded edges. It's very straight cut and feels like it's scraping ur skin.
Very disappointed seeing as how most others have it but oh well.

Screen protector
Does anyone know how this compares to the ones produced by spigen? Also, is there any interference with the air gestures?

Nope, the response hasn't decreased at all from the senors or the screen.

I also have this screen protector. It is absolutely wonderful! Has anyone tested it against ghost glass or some other glass variant? I also notice a bit of a decrease in performance from the proximity sensor when removing the phone from my face after a long phone call.

I ordered this product on Sunday from Amazon. It's arrival today was heralded by a loud thump on my doorstep as the delivery person essentially slammed the Amazon box (which contained the ScreenMate and a Obliq Case) down and ran off. Needless to say, I was not surprised to discover on opening the screenmate box that the glass had been cracked.
I will be ordering another as soon as Amazon processes my refund, as I believe that the fault was in the handling by the delivery person. I do think that iLoome could probably do a little bit better with their packaging, however, again, I believe that the fault truly lies with the Prestige courier that Amazon used to ship my product to me.
I will update after I get the replacement ordered and it arrives.

Just got my iloome glass screen and its amazing feels like nothing there but I got a hair under my screen. Thats my bad but its nice and all the gestures is working for me. Very well pleased

I bought one for $9 but noticed that the seller on ebay has reduced the price to $5.87.
I'm not sure if it's fake, but I suspect most of these are manufactured in the same place.
The screen protector came in a plain brown box with no dust cloth or alcohol wipe, but I didn't pay $39 and those extras aren't worth that much upcharge.
The printed instructions on the packaging say, "GLAStR" but I suspect it could be fake. In any case, it works just as well as the real one and for $6-$9 I can replace it at any time and not be worried about the cost.

Sorry, I didn't post that part because I like to keep my videos short and to the point.
But to answer your concerns, it feels just like a regular screen without screen protectors.
That's the benefit of glass and the clarity is unmatched.
I hate sticky screen protectors like skinomi and xtreme guard and don't like the tackiness on those types.
Dry install ones like Spigen are what I usually used, but even those eventually start to show scratches and dont have complete clarity.

Yeah i currently have the cheap (but still $13 at Verizon..I know, i forgot to order online with my case ahead of time of getting the phone) flimsy ones that no matter how hard i try seem to get a bubble or two

I believe it is. All the reviews on the iPhone 6 which is basically the same glass are positive. I think the aluminum might look cool but I'm in the same boat. I'm going to wait for some reviews and when the white version comes out

I like the look of this lots but wonder how the crown will effect the fitting of a case, I'll also be waiting for a black version and seeing if they post to the uk

One of the reviews I watched mentioned that the taper of the crown where I case would meet is approximately .1 mm. I would imagine it depends on how much the case wraps around the front of the screen. The one that's on my phone right now actually doesn't even get to the glass.

I'd agree it will depend on the case and my current one a spigen neo hybrid over laps the glass I would say by about 1mm or possibly 2mm, still very tempted once the black version arrives.

Op will you also update when they make the black variant available?

They have the "Crown" for the iPhone 6, 6 Plus and Note 4 in Black & White. I believe that they should have the color process down pat by now.

And I believe you are also 100% correct.

So all this is really doing is using the "silver crown" to hide halos, right? It doesn't sound all that revolutionary, but I guess its one way to get rid of the halo problem.

Correct. Basically the same idea as the tempered glass screen protectors with colored borders. Both are just two different ways with dealing with the halo. The good thing about the crown is that it actually curves with the actual glass. Whereas the edge to edge tempered glass screen protectors have a small gap between the edges of the tempered glass and screen that tends to build up dust.

I bought one for my Note 4 and to be honest I was very dissapointed. After installing the glass and the crown piece (they are seperate) I still ended up with a very slight halo that can be seen all the way around the glass - it was small but you could see it when the screen is off.
The "Crown" piece isn't as smooth as you would hope and my finger catches on it - particuarly around the home button -(at the bottom of the phone)
The concept sounded good - but the execution was slightly off - I complained about it to Body Guardz and they sent me a new one - same thing happened.
I still have it on the note - but I would never buy it again and I won't be buying it for the S6 - but that is just me. Others may have different results.

Yes - full adhesive on both models. And 3D glass

Are the cutouts actual holes, or clear glass? I've had proximity sensor issues in the past, and am concerned about that an issues for the radar sensors.

Ordered one for the XL. Hopefully it is as good as your old school flat screen phone models.

So the tempered glass you're making are going to only be like the picture above? I'm not a fan of tempered glass where is just sticky around the edges. Are you making regular ones too?

Yes, our glass is full adhesive. We are not fans of the ones with sticky around the edges either.

The black trim is 3D molded to accommodate the Pixel's curved screen. The full adhesion gives superior performance and feel over models without.

I've learned the hard way.. gotta protect the screen asap.
I had an intelliglass on my pixel Xl. .that was fine..
but curved edges was a disaster on the pixel 2xl..
lets see what the pixel 4 xl is like.. (totally skipped pixel 3.. i was notchblocked)

been a fan since nexus 6p days. Will you be making a blue light version? also way some other company have a installation tray for align not sure how useful one would be to have precise install.

We have some distribution in Europe, but no retailer in the UK yet. If you can tell us the retailer you'd prefer we can work on getting them setup.

This is stellar. Actual interaction with a product distributor, rather than just ordering something, hoping it works out and if it doesn't, moving on to the next protector without actually having any realtime knowledge of the product ? I got burned so many times with OP protectors, this is quite appealing. Think I'm gonna grab a couple friday, along with the spigen crystal clear case. That will be a killer setup. It will be...oh so badass ?
