Software or Hardware Problem?? HELP - General Questions and Answers

So recently my S3 i9300's camera and speakers (front and back) broke for unknown reasons - maybe because it fell down?
Now my problem is that, someone told me that a broken cam and speaker will not cause any problem in the software side (except cam which will cause an error) but the problem is that eventhough its on the hardware side, my phone does not, cannot play online streaming videos through FB or Youtube or any online streaming site/app, and it also does not play mp3 music as when I try to play anything using any music app, an error saying that the app has stopped.
The good thing is that I am able to play videos of mp4 or avi format that is SAVED on my sd card using mx player app.
My question is, do you think it has something to do with the motherboard of the phone that causes the phone to not play mp3 or stream videos online?
Repairing the mother board is very costly so I am worried it might be the cause.
Any idea whats wrong with my phone?
Please, I need help to soothe out my worries...
Thank you and may God bless your helpful soul.

And it seems like my front speakers dont work too causing my phones calls to drop and when trying to call through viber app or Facebook messenger app, it wont work and the call just drops... Help

you can try to figure out whats wrong by using a diagnostics app such as this one - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dms.pastor.diagnostictools&hl=en

[Q] MP3 Sound Issues on HTC HD7

Hello Everyone,
I am not sure if someone else had this issue. Its related to the default MP3\Video player on HTC HD7. If i dont open the Music & Videos for some time or may be days and when i choose to play music it does plays it but with no sound coming from spearks.
If i play a video at the same time the sound will be there if a call is coming the sound will be there, but only mp3 wont play.
And the only optio i am left with is to reboot the phone and then it again starts to work fine. I also tried checking after syncing the phone with Zune but nothing happened.
Can someone help me here with some clues or if someone else is also having this issue.
I'd call htc or your carrier. I have not run into that problem on my hd7 and I don't reset it for days at a time.
using HTC 7 Trophy
Having the same problem. but not just with audio files, but with Radio, too
My solution is the same: reboot

I dont think it has to do with carrier anyway as they are not streamed or something they have been synced from my PC using Zune. I dont even suspect the Hardware issue as at the same time other sounds plays perfectly fine. It looks to be a some kind of rare bug which is affecting only the chosen people.

Oh Sorry to hear that mate, i am lucky in that sense coz i tried my radio and it plays well in headset and speaker mode both and as i said even the Videos plays just fine. its only the MP3 that does not play sound. MP3 does play as i can see the time reducing and all and can play pause them only the sound is not there in speakers and not even in headphones.
I reboot and its again good to go. I hope some update comes out soon to fix it.

my point being is that calling the carrier might get you a new headset.

IT'S NOT THE HEADSET !!!
I tried a series of experiments yesterday and found 1 thing to reproduce the Problem:
Start Music Player (everything is fine)
Run a Game (for me it's Project Sunburst)
Stop the Game (Music still plays)
Stop (Pause) the Music Player
Run the Game again
Set "No Music" Settings in Game
Stop the Game
Start Music Player --> Music doesn't play
Even the current state of the paused file is stopped, and Music Player will start playing from the beginning of the file
i even found a solution to hear Music Files again
Start the Game
Enable Music in Game
Stop the Game
Start Music Player --> Music is heard again
ciao Skipper
BTW: Rado played fine when files didn't play, that was a little overzealous on my part, must have mixed it with some other problem, or didn't connect headset or something

Thats right in the case of ppl in US and some other countries but me being in India need not be bound with a Carrier or service provider, as Maximum of the handsets are available unlocked.
I bought it for some 640$ considering 1$ = 45 Rs. But yeah i got your point

yes the music file plays while I'm in the game if I started playback before game, but if I
stop(pause) music playback
start game (with no sound)
stop game
start music playback
I hear nothing (and file is played from the beginning)
("crackdown 2: project sunburst" is available vor testing in marketplace, and has (of course) the same effect on music as the buyed app)
ciao Skipper
i am unable to repro the issue with any given games, actually could not try sunburst. But other games i tried and also since the day i posted this question issue has occuredd only once and have never repeated.
I hope it stays like this and never comes back.
curious
Those that are having the sound trouble, did you also enable your device as USB storage? Because I've came across this same problem and it was after I had to fool with a couple of the registries. If so then more than likely that's the culprit.

It's a common and know issue of WP7. Mine does it also. I have to reboot mine to get sound back. This is one of many bugs WP7 has that MS refuses to address with an update.

For such a common problem, I haven't seen many threads about it here, on ppcgeeks, or wpcentral...
I have no doubt it is linked to people adjusting the ingame volume controls and that adjusting the overall volume control.
Not sure what there is to fix, maybe a separate volume control for games vs other multimedia???

Could be. But there certainly is something to fix. When you don't adjust in-game sound to zero yet the in-music sound is zero, there is something to fix. And when a reboot restores sound rather than keeping it the same, there is something wrong.
There is an app to fix this problem(free trail with adds). It's called: Media Volume Settings.

[Q] Music Stuttering In Every Player I Try

I have a Galaxy S3 i747 running AOKP 4.2.2. I've tried Google Play Music, Omich Player, Android Music Player, and PowerAmp. Whenever I do anything on my phone while listening to music, it skips for a second or two. By this I mean locking or unlocking it, opening an app, and sometimes doing something within an app. Its really obnoxious and is seriously ruining my enjoyment of this phone. My ROM has an overclock function, so I tried forcing the processor to go to 1.6gHz at all times, but that didn't fix it. It also has an SD card read ahead function, but even setting that as high as 4000kb had no effect. This happens whether there's zero or a dozen apps in the background. Sometimes clearing the apps cache and force closing it followed by restarting the phone helps. Also, sometimes switching to another music player whip fix it for a while before that one starts skipping too.
Is there any solution to this? I've seen other people with this problem but they either never resolve it or the solution that works for them doesn't work for me.
Perhaps
If you have AntiVirus on your mobile phone. Possible that some programs are not compatible

Nope, no antivirus
I know this sounds crazy but try using headphones with a built-in microphone. I'm almost positive that is how I fixed this issue on an older phone that had the same issue.

[Q] sharing music/ audio during a phone call

Hello everyone!
What I'm looking to do is really simple, a LOT of people are interested in these feature, however, no one has a clear solution.
There has been a lot of post about this subject but they are most old post and there's nothing help full.
Here is the problem - whenever I'm talking over the phone, I can play any music I like and I can hear it perfectly, but the other side cant hear anything! even if ill let the music play using the phone speaker - the other side is silent (witch is strange cause when the speaker play, the mic should transfer the sound and shouldn't "care" who is making it).
So after a lot of searching for apps and different ways, I found out something interesting.. If I make the call using an VOIP (skype, viber and so on) and Ill play music at the same time - THE OTHER SIDE CAN HEAR IT PERFECTLY!!! witch means the phone is fully capable of doing it.
What is going wrong when I'm using the cellular network instead of VOIP? is there a way around it?
Ive noticed some people don't get WHY would I want to do it.. well, I'm working using my phone (sales) and using the exact same pitch. I would like to be super lazy and play a recorded version of me, and when its done, be able to just keep talking to the person without him being able to notice the difference.
Since I'm doing it for work, I cant use VOIP for regular calling since Ill lose the option to use "Airdroid".
I'm using Nexus 4, Slimkat rom (4.4.4).
ANY help at all will be appreciated

G8231 microphone, speakers and video recording does not work, Help

Hi !
I bought a used G8231 that was sold as defective, "Microphone not working".
That was no problem as i just wanted to play with the 960 FPS Video function for sports.
BUT when i received it also video shooting did not work as it complains about another device using resources. As still photos work fine i guess it complains about not beeing able to use the microphone.
Further diagnostics show that also the speakers do not work, all else seems okay.
The phone is useless for me like this as i solely wanted to paly with the 960 FPS video.
Is this a known Hardware or Software defect ?
Do you have any idea how to at least get video recording going ?
Thanks for help !
Greetings,
Ender
It helps if you post any troubleshooting steps you've already taken and to tell us the exact error message.
The first course of action is to factory reset the phone or even reflash the stock firmware in order to rule out possible software problems, if the issue persists then double check the hardware is non-functional by going to the dailer and bring up the service menu by entering *#*#7378423#*#* then go to tests and test the components you're having issues with.
If you've confirmed they do not work, the next step would be to perform a teardown, you could try removing the microphone and booting it up, it looks like its on its own little board so if that works you can just remove the connector from it and play with the camera all you want, if not then consider buying a new microphone or another broken phone and you'll probably want to buy some adhesive while you're at it or some double sided tape.
Hi !
Thanks for the answer, i guess i did all "usual" stufflike down & upgrading inkcluding factory reset and safe mode tests.
I even got the litle mic board but i hesitated as i feared to break the display in the process...
But if thats the next logical step...
Ender
I have the same exact problem. Microphone and speakers do not work. It all happened when I updated to Android 8 Oreo.
The repair center says it is because it is bent and there is a crack in it. Probably motherboard is bent too much. I hesitate to believe them because the phone was bent long before the problems occured.
For me, listening to music/youtube is no problem if I use a Bluetooth device. However - and this is where I feel it is not hardware related - the microphone does not work using bluetooth. Phone applications just crash when I try making a call and when I perform "system test" of the microphone the test application/support application crashes.
Can it really be hardware when even bluetooth microphone does not work?

My phone doesn't record audio

Hello,
I just took my first video using the phone today, then I noticed audio is not recorded. I tried several times, both high-res and 3D audio, but there was no audio. Checked both on my phone and my laptop. I even installed Google Camera app, but the video from there still didn't have audio.
Then I used Voice Recorder app to record audio, and interestingly it did not record audio either. 3rd party voice recorder app didn't record audio either!
There is no problem when I call, my voice is heard clearly from the other phone. I checked the permissions of the camera apps / recorder apps, and microphone is ticked.
What could be the problem? This is very frustrating. Please help!
EDIT:
I just installed a 3rd party camera app, took a video, and the app gave a video with audio. Then I tried stock camera app, which also gave audio. Then voice recorder app, which also gave audio. It seems to work now. I didn't do anything special, didn't reboot the phone, etc. I have no idea what happened...
It is quite possible that one of the apps didn't release the connection to the microphone "for whatever reason". If you encounter problems with hardware the first option is reboot. The reason for this is all of the external and internal connections to hardware get reset. Most apps rely on the drivers within the os and sometimes those connections don't get closed because of crap coding or bugs in the os itself.
Most phones will have a hidden self test menu. It is worth a Google to find that code and test the hardware when things go a bit wierd.
Hope that helps.

Now that I thought about it again, I think you are right. One of my apps might have been in love with the microphone so that it did not allow other apps to use the mic. I have no idea which app had that kind of love, but anyway, yeah thank you for the comment!
