Hi there,
yesterday I flashed the latest nightly from CM11.
So far, so good.
But: performance isn´t the same, like on stock 38r
I know flashed the apks from the apps I need, to have CM11 like I want it to.
But, without all the google-stuff on it.
I have to say: Great!
But here is what I ask myself:
Is there a version of 38r, without google-stuff?
Cause CM11 can´t bee the same, like CM11s, just including the gapps g.e.
So, does anybody now about a 38r without google-stuff, but with same performance?
Thx

There's no such thing. If you really want to you could manually remove the apps you don't wish to have on your device. That will cause problems when you want to take an OTA though.

Thx!
I already feared that it would "end like that".
But anyway.
CM11 is okay, I think I will stay there.
But, timmaaa:
Why would there be problems with OTA?
There would be problems because OTA updates fail if you have any modifications to system files.

Okay, I installed a fresh 38r, skipping google-registration at the first start-up.
Then delete/deactivate everything what sound like "google"...
Till now, everything is fine.
I tried to search for OTAs, searching did well. Just no new OTAs available.
System works fine.
Maybe it will work?
As long as I dont have to pay for what ever...

The phone will still function as a phone without the Google stuff. And you'll still be able to download OTA updates, but they'll fail when they try to install.

Okay, do u think I could flash them manualy via TWRP?
If so and there are no other negativ points, I will give it a try.
Negativ thinks, g.e. looking to APN-problems that could cause a higher phone-bill
If you had uninstalled them with System App Remover by Jumobile, when the next update came out, you could result them, update, then delete them again. That's worked for me since 25R.
What is it in 38r that draws you to it instead of just installing cm11... curious?

Hi, have seen some posts for this issue but none really help me understand what went wrong (tried this update 3 times with same result)
I have nexus 5 with android 4.4.2, rooted with CF-Auto root.
Recently i received OTA update notification to 4.4.3, but when i'm trying to install it i get error without any info.
Before trying to update i completely uninstall xposed and all of its modules.
To my understanding using CF-Autoroot should not interfere with OTA updates.
Any ideas?

did you do any other system modifications? change kernels?
I'd just dirty flash 4.4.3 and call it a day.

Nop, unless apps like titanium backup or file manager (only other apps that require root) change something. :/

Im no android expert(far from it), and prefer to stick to the most simple methods as long as i can run xposed framework.
this is why OTA without flashing or interfering with OS is best for me.
Keep this as last resort if no progress will happen regarding OTA updates.
Thanks!

OTA is more complex if you're rooted.. There's more flashing involved if you have / want a custom recovery (which all rooted users should aim to have)
Just download the full rooted stock ROM in android development and flash it without wipe from recovery.
It's actually fewer steps anyway.
OTA = revert system changes, boot recovery, flash, re-flash recovery, re-root
Rooted stock = boot recovery, flash
No brainer really. Flashing an OTA if rooted is a fool's errand

lmao, its FAR from the most simple method. most simple method would be to dirty flash a 443 stock/rooted rom and call it a day, without over complicating anything.

Did you uninstall Xposed from within the app? If you simply uninstalled it the same way you install regular aps (by dragging to uninstall from the app drawer) then it doesn't completely uninstall.

Had anybody seen a situation where the recovery won't keep the correct date and time? I've flashed TWRP 2.7.1.0, 2.8.0.1, and the latest Philz, and all of them kept changing the time, the timezone, and the date... and they were acting a little buggy in their responsiveness.
Thoughts?

I've experienced the same issue since I got my S5. KT TWRP 2.8.1.0 doesn't have that problem. It also fixes the backup to extSD problem, if you were experiencing that.

THANKS! I had KT's downloaded but didn't flash it yet... I certainly will now. And yes, the extSD issue bit me, too.
Nope... date is 1/1/2014 and the time is 3 hours lagging for the timezone.
Let's hope at the very least my nandroid backups won't disappear.

Try this: Using something like Root Explorer, look for the TWRP folder on your internal SD card. There's a file called ".twrps". It's the config file for TWRP. Delete it and then boot back into TWRP. You'll have to redo your setting (timezone, screen timeout etc.). See if that fixes it. If that doesn't do it, not sure what else will.

I had tried peeking into the file with Notepad++ but nothing jumped out at me. Now I feel silly for not trying what you suggested.
I deleted it and it had no effect. The one I deleted and the one it created had the wrong date/time stamps on them... as did the two backups I created (both in metadata and filename convention).
On the bright side... my two backups are as yet undeleted.

Very strange, I was sure that was it. My date/time have been correct since using it. The only other thing I may have done was using KT Kernel as well, but I don't think that was it. If you decide to try KT Kernel and want to go back to stock kernel, here's a link for stock: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54632862&postcount=1702
Another thought: What version is your firmware? Should be NE5. If not, here's that link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2798079

I didn't flash the KT Kernel because the post said it needed to be flashed onto a TouchWiz based ROM... and right now I have PacMan (AOKP). I had MOAR (NE5) installed for a bit but I'm not used to stock. Truthfully, MOAR had everything I could want... I may just have to get over my snootiness.
Oh, it's coming back to me... with MOAR I was getting a lot of error popups of processes stopping running. i think "acore" was a common one. I could have troubleshot but didn't.

My clean install is usually wiping cache, dalvik, data, and system.

I flashed cyanogenmod 13 and gapps for marshmallow (from 6.12.2015) and it boots fine. All apps are installed, as before the update.
BUT
When I start any of these apps they seem to be reset to default as if they are newly installed. For example Threema starts setup process after start.
App data is still present on internal storage (did not wipe), but apps do not seem to have access to any of this data.
Can anyone help what I can try to get the apps back to work with previous data?
Thankful for any help!

At first, try flashing CM13 after a full wipe or try using another rom since CM13 could be buggy.

Thanks for the reply! But well, the phone is working, just the apps are behaving as if they are newly installed ... So a full wipe would not really help as is only deletes more data. The question is why do the apps "think" they are not already set up?

Full ACK, but data is still available on the internal storage, but the apps do not notice this?
AND this one here (not allowed ot post links... so a missing w at the beginning ww.cyanogenmod.org/blog/a-marshmallowy-cm) says dirty flash from 12.1 to 13 is okay and if the cyanogenmod updater shows cm13 as availabe for update ...
EDIT: Maybe this was a missing info, but it was "just" a normal update via cyanogenmod updater, not a real flash of a new rom!

What do you want me to say? It's always better to full wipe when upgrading to a new Android version. Period.
Moreover, CM13 nightlies are buggy. There are important bugs and fixes everyday. Make a nandroid backup and try from scratch or try another nightly or another custom rom. There's nothing else to say IMO.

Hi Guys,
I had recently updated my Oneplus One to 5.0.2 through OTA system updates. Now I wanted to update the same to 5.1.1 (i.e OS 12.1). But the problem is that I am not able to see the system updates anymore. It says the System is up to date whereas it's not the case in reality. It also asks to update cyanogen recovery, which I ignore. Attaching the snapshots of device for your reference.
The device is NOT rooted. I tried switch OFF and Switch ON multiple times. I also manually force stopped the System Update app, cleared it's cache, disabled it then enabled it. tried all combinations for the same. But no luck.
Can someone please advice what should I do to see the system updates as usual the way I was seeing earlier? Thanks for your help.

Thanks a lot for your reply. I actually have that app and it shows me the new update for 5.1.1 too. But the issue is when I first tried to update thru this app from kitkat to 05Q update, it somehow messed up my device. The zip installed was somehow corrupt due to which the installation had issues. Thats why I am actually worried to take that risk again.
That screwed up installation thru that app was the reason why I switched to OTA system updates which updated from 05Q to 5.0.2 lollypop. And now I cant see cyanogen system updates as it seem to have died.
Are you sure that app has no issues at all? Have you updated till 5.1.1 or 6.0.1 using that app? Please let me know.

Thanks a lot for your help man. But flashing and factory reset will wipe the mobile data I guess. I don't really want to do that. I need to keep the mobile data intact. Also, will it be advisable to jump from 5.0.2 to 6.0 directly? Or should I go incrementally only?

I can also see the full update option. But if I do full update directly, will it wipe all data from my device? I am not sure about it. Can you confirm whether your data was wiped when you updated from Kitkat to the latest marshmallow thru this App? That would help me decide. Or if anyone else can confirm the same, that would also help.

Thanks man. I will try the full update then.
I followed the instructions given to me in my "new here" thread and was able to wipe my OS and install resurrection remix 7.1.2 last night. However, I was only able to install gapps mini and now I can't take a screenshot or install other items like google chrome or facebook. However, I was able to install other apps like firefox. I've tried a factory reset, removing my google account from the play store and re-adding it. It should definitely not be a cache problem as the install is brand new. I even used twrp wipe on all folders and reinstalled RR and still no change. Do I need to repartition or just try another mod?
*edit*
I found another thread here through a search that had a very similar issue to mine, but it looks like they were able to resolve theirs by uninstalling some app (they didn't say what). I'm having this with a fresh install, every time. So that fix didn't work for me, and I couldn't find anything else.
As an update to this issue, I have been able to install OkCupid (I'm a single girl, what can I say?) and the Android WebService that it required to function. Still have original issue though.

Well, here's why I don't think that's it. After flashing the OS, I tried to flash the super version of the open gapps. That was a huge file, almost a gig I think, so when that errored out I wasn't surprised. So when I tried the stock at 700 mb, and that failed, I tried the mini. That was 200 mb, and when that flashed successfully, I got suspicious. So I do think it's an issue with the system partition. I know the resurrection remix was a few GB in size, so perhaps it was too big. I haven't tried downloading CM13 or any others yet, so I don't know if there's a huge size difference or not. But I think that may be what it was. Just too big for our phones.

System partition has a size, just like internal storage has.Though,in the former case, you can increase it,but there's no point in increasing it,as you can just flash mini/nano/pico gapps and install all the other G-Apps you need after that.Infact,stock/heavy gapps is nothing but bloatware.
Anyway, what I meant was, flash other gapps except opengapps:

I think I just figured it out. I went outside on break and went to take a selfie to test the camera for this OS, and voila, it told me to enter an SD card. So it looks like it may be some sort of permissions issue. I'll just re-flash it with a different OS later. I'm not really attached to this one anyway. Brand new phone, nothing to back up.

Looks good to me, I'll give it a shot tonight, thanks!
So, I flashed DotOS last night, everything is working. Looks like Resurrection Remix was the problem. Thanks again!
