hello i just got a Nvidia Shield Tablet LTE (Unlocked) from Best buy and it came with an ATT simcard and a preloaded ATT app. im going back to the Philippines in a week and how can i check if my device is really unlocked? i have no other sim card to use i just wanna be 100% sure
It's unlocked cause I bought one
I'm using it with my t-mobile sim so it's unlocked. There's a software by AT&T that's installed though that prevents me from using the hotspot correctly.
I rooted it using towelroot and then installed SuperSU and ES Explorer. Then, I removed/uninstalled the AT&T AllAccess software using ES Explorer.
I'm with t-mobile so I had to do an extra step. I had to create a new APN that is configured with an APN protocol of IPv4 because the one that was automatically configured uses IPv6. T-Mobile hotspot here in the US only works on IPv4.

Hello, I bought an unlocked version of the sensation originally from bell to use on AT&T. I had an iPhone 4 which had a mini sim and went to AT&T to switch it out, they gave me a normal sim but the data didn't work. I went there today to ask them about it and they tried to manually put in the APN settings, but had no luck. Does anyone know what the problem may be? Thanks in advance.
Do you guys think this is AT&T's problem? Could it be a problem with the sim change because I got text on the new phone saying"thank you for upgrading your phone" could it have taken away the data?
Just call them and check. You should be able to add the unlimited non smartphone data for $15 and still get the same 3g speeds. Tell them you switched to a dumb phone and give the sensation imei if they ask. Their system won't be able to recognize that you are using a smartphone.
If you need apn settings let me know, the default wap.cingular should work fine.

i have a question currently i am on tmo post paid acct with no hotspot plan. with unlocked xperia zl (non tmo phone) i am able to use hotspot on stock android. i dont get any message that i need to upgrade plan in order to use hotspot feature. however when same SIM card is inserted into n5 when i use hotspot i get a message to upgrade plan to hotspot in order to use the feature.
my question is my xperia zl is able to bypass carrier restriction whereas n5 is not able to? both are unlocked and unrooted phone.
i know i can root or install 3rd party apps on n5 to achieve hotspot feature. i just want to understand how xperia is managing to by pass on stock rom.

What plan are you on? I keep hearing everyone having this issue, but I can tether freely with my n5. I'm stock unrooted with an unlocked bootloader. I have the new simple choice plan that includes tethering.
But to answer your question, Google has put a restriction in the stock rom, whereas Sony hasn't.

i am on biz classic unlimited plan which does not include hotspot need to pay separately. i have a feeling that google might have given imei info to the telco even though it is unlocked. whereas in case of xperia zl they may not have give imei no hence they are unable to block.
is it possible to identify correct model of your n5 is it american model (d820) or international model (d821)

If you're asking me what model I have its the d280. You can check by going into the bootloader. It will say the model number there.
i am also on d820 so basically both of our models are same. may i know what plan you are on?
on 2nd note could you also tell me what is your apn name? my apn name is on fast.t-mobile.com i tried epc.tmobile.com then i dont any data network. however my xperia apn name is epc.tmobile.com

Just call T-Mobile and update your plan to one that includes hotspot. The current version of your plan costs the same but enables hotspot. I was in the same situation.

Same issue here,
I finally have time to test this yesterday and tried to browse from a tablet. I was presented with a T-Mobile page to register my phone number. This is not the case on Galaxy S4 running Google Edition rom.
I can't wait until the developers find a way to bypass the restrictions

This entire day has been hell.
After finally unlocking my phone, I went out and got a T-Mo Sim from Walmart and I am currently using the 'walmart plan'.
After spending hours trying to get the data to work on the phone, having to make an 'APN' to do so, I decided to purchase the mobile hotspot service.
Although the 4G LTE works flawlessly on TMO's network, the mobile hotspot option will not authenticate at all. I've heard things about how att blocks wifi hotspots regardless of a new carrier and you have to remove it by rooting your phone (my phone is not), a new APN must be set up to connect to tmo's mobile hotspot service or try using a tether app like foxfi (I've tried em all, that's why I'm here asking the question directly now)
I tried putting my Sim into my sister's T-Mobile phone and it worked, hotspot and all. I thought maybe something was wrong with my phone's software, I'm not sure but I don't want to factory restore just yet although I heard that this could possibly fix it. I am skeptical.
My phone isn't in horrible condition, and it's unlocked so I might just try to sell it and get a Nexus 5 but for now could anybody help me out
For reference my current APN settings are
fast.T-Mobile.com
http / / . mms . msg . eng.t-mobile. com /MMS /wapenc (have to modify this because I am a new member)
310
260
default,MMS,supl,admin,dun
That's works for me http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2668453
I just flashed the tmobile based rom from the dev forum... wifi calling and hotspot work flawlessly
Hi all, just giving a quick 2 cents after my recent experience attempting to activate a Verizon S7 Edge on AT&T.
*Following a data reset you will need wifi for initial setup if you are using an AT&T sim card.
After following the guide in AT&T's web site for APN settings I was not able to get any data or mms service (this is using the NXTGENPHONE APN), so I did some experimenting. The following APN settings worked for HSPA+ data and mms, but NO LTE and NO MMS if connected to WIFI:
Name: ATT
APN: phone
Proxy: not set
Port: not set
Username: not set
Password: not set
Server: not set
MMSC: http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
Multimedia message proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net
Multimedia message port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Authentication type: not set
APN type: default,mms,supl,hipri
APN Protocol: IPv4/IPv6
APN roaming protocol: IPv4/IPv6
Bearer: unspecified
Mobile virtual network operator type: none
Mobile virtual network operator value: not set
So at this point I had NO LTE service and NO MMS IF connected to wifi. Utilizing the LTE Discovery app from the play store I could see that LTE was "not available" but on my wife's S7 she was getting LTE on Band 4. To make a long story short I got online to an AT&T chat rep who told me that HSPA+ and LTE are the exact same and they just show up different on different phones... THIS IS NOT CORRECT!
I educated the dumba$$ rep that HSPA+ and LTE are not the same, and asked to speak to a tech support SPECIALIST. After a short wait for transfer the final solution that worked was to have the specialist change the IMEI on file for my phone number to an AT&T branded Note 5 (I had an old one on the account and just used that). I then restarted the phone and had to wait about 10 minutes for the HSPA+ to change to 4GLTE signal. MMS now works when connected to wifi as well! Please note that this was achieved using the above mentioned APN settings- using AT&T's guide for NXTGENPHONE still results in NO data or MMS.
So the bottom line when transferring a Verizon S7 Edge to AT&T:
1. Use the above APN settings
2. Call AT&T and change your phone number's IMEI in their system to an LTE capable AT&T branded device (in my case note 5 worked)
3. Reboot and wait about 10 minutes for the signal to register
**DON'T let a representative tell you that HSPA+ and LTE are the same thing.. we're talking 8 Mbps vs 50+ Mbps download and 2 Mbps vs 20+ Mbps upload!
Cheers
***Admin I accidentally posted this in the ROM section; can it be moved to discussion/guides? thanks
Did you by chance even try the U firmware? It should work on any US carrier since its the firmware on the US Unlocked S7E and should have necessary files

you just flash the odin tar then root as usual.. the U firmware is for the US unlcked
I flashed first the 935U firmware and then activated the phone with AT&T, once you insert the sim the phone reboots, changes the APN while it reboots and once it finished all data/talk/text services with AT&T are fully functional. I am guessing Verizon lokcs down the APN features of the 935V firmware so that we stay with verizon.
I'm planning on flashing that rom tomorrow. The issue I have is modifying it for unlimited tethering as I use MetroPCS and pay for unlimited Internet. Fox fi does work but counts against my hotspot data. I tried it with a vpn but I use my hotspot for Netflix and I get an error saying to disable the proxy service or vpn. Wifi tether router connects but I get no Internet. I guess the main issue for me is getting the damn netflix to stream off my hotspot via chrome cast. I'm all ears, open to suggestions and help. Ps. I am currently rooted on Verizon rom. All apps are also paid apps not trying to free load here as I believe hard work should be compensated for. I also would love to have the video calling and wifi calling that I pay for.

My brother actually tried this. I sent him my 935V after I flashed it to the 935U firmware. He had the same problems the OP had where MMS and data won't work unless it's on the HSPA+ APN settings. He's coming to visit soon so I will try going to a store and seeing if they can set it up with a new sim. Or should I just call them and have them switch the imei?
Not sure which route is better here.
I actually just flashed the U firmware and now am right back where I started. Could be that for my region att has a hard time registering it. I'll be calling att this week and will post back my findings. I do like the U firmware better though. Seems cleaner and faster.

I think AT&T just block LTE access for non branded devices. Since you mentioned that it works after you register the sim with your AT&T note 5.
I just did a massive conversion of our squad car laptops for law enforcement at work from VZW to AT&T. The way they provision LTE access is trying the ICCID (SIM Card #) to the IMEID of the devices GOBI modem. All of my rigs came up on HSPA+ and not LTE. Once I sent the ICCID and IMEI of the particular unit to our government rep the mobile came up on LTE. I'd try calling them and saying you need LTE provisioned on your SIM. Provide the ICCID of your SIM, the IMEI of your device and your mobile phone #. Hope this helps.

I tried this with my brother's phone and they said that because it's a non at&t branded device there were limitations on what may or may not work when it comes to data or messaging because they don't guarantee anything as it's not theirs. So he had HSPA+ speeds for a few days until i saw this thread and called again. I gave them the IMEI from a display phone and it worked fine after that.

Thanks, he didn't really care as he's just happy with the phone but I'm glad I got it working as it was intended. By any means necessary.
After flashing the u firmware I called att and was able to get it activated again. Just takes persistence and patience lol.

Glad to hear it worked. I remember when I had a Nexus on AT&T, and I had to call them to have LTE work using a different phones info lol.
Does anyone have any experience with Cricket? I'm thinking about using my S7 Edge on the U firmware with Cricket, but I know they don't have the same level or type of customer service as AT&T. I'm hoping it will "just work", but it sounds like it might not.

Hi Geoff,
Don't know if you're still considering using a Verizon S7 edge on Cricket. I currently have one and it works fine with the network. And I have no issues with calls or MMS via LTE. You only lose connection go Band 17.

I bought HTC U11 phone locked to sprint last week, unlocked and confirmed that it was unlocked.
Rooted the phone and installed VIPER ROM, I am presently using ATT in US, there is service, but mobile data shows disconnected.
I checked the access point details and discovered it was actually enabled.
I tried configuring it manually and no change at all
I tried with T-Mobile and shows connected.
I don't know why am having issue with ATT, I can make calls perfectly.
When you insert the sim card you should be prompted for network selection. Check you are using the correct apn settings as some carriers have different ones for different types of tarriff.
Failing that, speak to att. They might be aware of specific problems when migrating.

Hello I am new to this forum. I did a search and your post was first I saw. I bought an HTC 10 from a girl and went to put my Verizon sim card in and it says to contact Sprint for unlock code. Well I can't reach the girl who sold me the phone I can't root it if u could please help any advice would be appreciated. I have a hand written receipt from the girl but her #s disconnected. I've downloaded the twrp and super something also kingo root and can't get it rooted or get the s off turned on as it says s on. My email is [email protected] I'll check back as I said I'm new to this forum so still learning to use it. Sigh I have 2 other phones that a friend wanted me to fix. They did a hard reset and don't remember there Gmail set up with the phones. Right now this HTC is my main concern
So what are you trying to do, unlock simlock or root it?..
To root the phone you need to start at htcdev website and follow unlock bootloader. Then flash twrp then supersu. Bin kingoroot. It's crap.
Not sure you can manually unlock simlock. Might have to get the code off sprint.
