I just checked out the Verizon version. Not as old looking at people say. I've got an s4 now though. I want the phone but have to root to remove bloat and tether subscription check. Sony is generally quite free with unlocking boot loaders and such. Anyone know if big red made them lock it down?

I too want to know. I am thinking about buying this or waiting for the Droid Turbo I am a crack flasher! Need root at very minimum...
I just got the Z3v and can confirm that the bootloader is indeed not unlockable.
I just want to root it and install xposed. Thoughts?

That might be possible in a couple weeks / months
I may not even need root...
I'm trying to fnd a way to make a long volume press do next track/last track and use the camera button to pause/play music.
Anyone know of a non-root app that can do that?
Root happened on the Z2 with a LB. I'm sure it will with the Z3 and its variants, however the real issue is when the Z3 gets 5.0. Supposedly root on lollipop might be extremely difficult with a LB. http://www.xda-developers.com/android/android-l-lockdown/
I want to get this phone but no root can be a dealbreaker is anyone working on root currently?

why dont you try it YOURSELF ?
You can't even download the app.
Because I don't have a Z3V.
I found this website that claims it found a way to root the device AND install android 5. But it is one of those websites where you have to do a survey to download the files....
MOD EDIT Link removed, because as you say, you have to complete surveys to complete the download which breaks XDA RULES @gregbradley
Someone give it a try and see how it goes. It won't work on my Mac
Framaroot is a free program and it had its own section on Xda, just search for it.
I do not beleive it can root the z3vPlus, there is only sony devices on the whole of their supported device list and they are older phones released before the latest patch was installed on the Z3 series.
Also, as for installing lollipop, Rom manager has never supported xperia devices.
So no root yet?

No root for the Z3v and the current method to root other Z3 varients is unlikely to work for the Z3v as it needs information that can only be got from a rooted device. The current method has only worked becuase some people rooted by unlocking the bootloader (A method that always works) and gathering the required information to enable the tool to work on locked bootloaders.
Since the Z3v bootloader is not unlockable there is no way to get that information, hence no root.
Still nothing? I really love this phone, but the lack of root and cases is making me regret getting this phone. Support for it is almost non-existent.

Verizon Xperia Z3v Root!
I was able to do this last night, and even though the post says I wonder about OTA will make me loose root.. well it didn't. But apparently I'm too new to post a link... hit me up in a private message if you need it.
Root achieved: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3100402
So from what I understand that srsroot is tool of work taken from other developers. So considering root was achieved, they could of put it in their tool and etc. From what I've read it does survive OTA although Lollipop is a whole new beast.

How do you root the ZTE Compel running Android Kitkat 4.4.2?
Here is how I got the phone and why I need to root it.
My parents got me my first android phone for my birthday and I thought "Hey the ZTE Compel looks good. Its got the latest version and everything" I was so wrong. It came with 4GB of storage(The OS took 3GB) and it won't let me do anything with this 32GB SD(or any SD) I have. I can't put any apps on SD so I decided to root. I am decent in Linux so I already know what rooting is. So I download towelroot and its not compatible with my phone. Tried all the modstrings. They all froze. Also I can't seem to find a manual method. Can anyone out there help me root my ZTE Compel?
Seriously.
Its been like a24 hours now and not even a reply saying "I don't know about the phone." I posted this thread hoping to find some expert out there who knew. Im good at computer programming and decent in Linux, but no way an expert in android. If some expert out there sees this maybe you root this phone the exact same way as another new less common ZTE phone.
Thanks.

Yes please someone root this phone or find a way to get rid of all the crap that comes preloaded on it. I had to buy this phone because my SGS4 broke and I'm not up for the promotion price for a new one. Got this phone and its a powerful little phone. But man is the internal memory crap and it doesn't support app2sd. So I am always running into insufficient storage problems. I would appreciate someone rooting this device. Whoever roots this device or sends me info on how to root it successfully you got my donation. That's a promise.
Oh and I have tried towelroot, root genius and basically searched the web and there is very little talk on this phone. Maybe it is still too new. Obviously it is not a SGS5 or a Nexus but it is still a cost efficient phone with a quad core processor. Besides its horrible limited built-in storage its a great phone without having to be locked into a contract. Its limited storage can be easily fixed by adding the app2sd feature or just giving us root. That would help a lot. If a dev couple step in and help us out that would be great. You'll have my donation.

So where's the help? I don't see any post or nothing in your post...
Please help!:crying:
Near as I can tell, no one has found an exploit by which to gain root on the ZTE z830 Compel. That's why none of the downloadable root-kits work on it. The "manual method" (as worked on my ZTE Valet) of copying SU & such over using adb, then changing their file permissions won't work for the same reason... There has to be something to exploit in order to get temporary permissios to muck about in the OS files.

Hi i am new to the droid community got this fone as a gift from a bufdy of mines, got tonrun it on metro pcs network was really to setup. Anyways i update to ota with out doin no reaseach seems like i am stuck with 4.4.4 my question is there a way to root xt10180 non dev or temp root??? Can someone guide me the rite direction thank u
P.s if this is not the rite place pls move post t.y
Considering there is other sections more appropriate than the "Dev" sections for a question or concern, this would certainly not be the right place to ask.
But to answer your question, no. If your BL(bootloader) is locked, you have OEM/Stock recovery, and are on 4.4.4 you are screwed. It appears the Ultra is no longer being supported by anyone capable of finding a method to root. However, you can PAY for a BL unlock code, but it apparently has not been successful for everyone so I personally havent tried and would not pay the premium and possibly get nothing in return. At 4.4.4, you are unable to downgrade to older versions capable of root. Unless someone releases a method of bypassing the stock restrictions - you may have to wait until the next update. Only problem with that is the day after you update, if you choose to, someone may release a tool or method to bypass those security measures. However, if you dont update immediately you may possibly miss the window of opportunity to use a crack-able version of an OTA and wind up being stuck with too new of a version (I am not 100% sure on this last statement, as its been awhile since I was fully involved in the dev world). Hope this answered your question.
Yeah know I am stuck on this version. N I also won't pay for no bl that's not going to work. If someone do come out with a crack version I am willing to donate. I miss been root man. I hope someone do come out with a way to bypass this restrictions. I know they are a lot of smart ppl out there, that can help us noobs lol.

There is no known root method for 4.4 4 on the ultra.
In case you haven't realized, the Droid Maxx and Ultra are incapable of being rooted. Don't listen to any one who says its possible or they're working on a root, because they can't. Unfortunately these were the first series of android devices that simply cannot be rooted due to millitary grade security.

From everything I have read about the Droid Ultra / Maxx / Mini, the only known root is for versions below 4.4.4 but not including 4.4.4. When I got mine used, I spent weeks looking online to find one that had not been upgraded yet and finally found some on swappa.
I had read in a few places that if you get a 4.4 image (not 4.4.4) from Motorola's website and followed their instructions that it 'might' be possible to downgrade it to 4.4, but not any lower than 4.4 however I have not tried it and do not know if it works.

My at&t phone was unlocked and rooted when I got it, but it was lacking the last 6 updates, including lollipop, so I unrooted it to bring it up to date (5.0.1). Now I want to root it again, but haven't found any viable way to do it so far.
I tried Framaroot Plus, but that was a bust, and I had to uninstall it or my phone would personally take me out!!

Thanks for the reference. Zedomax shows many ways to root the S4 back from 2013 and 2014, but I couldn't find one that would root the SGH-i337 5.0.1. I've looked this up before for other members but I don't recall finding anything that will root the 5.0.1 build for your model. You can look into whether or not your device is safe to downgrade to older stock firmware(one that is root able) and then root.

Finding my way around on this website is usually laborious and confusing. I did find out about "J0din3" for mac, but that was a bust and a great waste of time, because it's too old and now it's undownloadable. So I tried the latest Wine Bottler; it works with el Capitan OSX (what I'm using on the mac) and was able to get Odin to work. However, it's not recognizing my phone, otherwise, I'd be done by now. Have you ever worked with Wine? Can you tell me how I can get the Odin to recognize my phone? Did I do something out of sequence?
And a separate question for xda-dev at large: Why doesn't xda-dev eliminate all the outdated, old, and useless information that rattles around here like satellite debris and gets a lot of people off on the wrong foot?!

So the LG Stylo 4 is a beautiful budget smartphone and i cant find any information on it here at xda so i figured i would start a thread for people to go to and discuss getting root on this device. Anyone with any experience or if anyone thinks the root process for another lg phone might work with this phone and is willing to test out and report back let us all know.
I am afraid we are out of luck this time...see below

Unfortunately stylo 4 requires unlock.bin from lg to unlock the bootloader to be able to flash twrp in order to flash [magisk or super su] and root the device [those information are according to 2 of the real device owners as i don't have one] this is similar to what exist on some lg v20 and g6 [carrier models] and from my experience lg won't allow bootloader to be unlocked similar to what they did on the models i mentioned, this mean that it will be very difficult if not impossible at all to root the stylo 4 and it will end like the still non-rootable stylo 3 ls777 from boost mobile.

Stylo 4
There is article that a quick Google search will turn up that claims to have step by step instructions including unlocking the bootloader of the Stylo 4 which is supposedly done with a .bin file emailed by LG after submitting IMEI number of the phone. But have yet to see any confirmations of this.
Any solution yet to unlock it?, mine is lg-stylo 4 metro pcs
Have any if you guys tried kingroot? I'm thinking of upgrading my stylo2 plus but I'm not going to if root hasn't been acquired. I used Kingroot about 7 times and got root on the first day of getting my Stylo2. Maybe it'll work on the 4?
Look, I want root as much as the next guy, but it's not happening this time. We gotta keep bugging LG/MetroPCS so the next time they release a phone it's unlockable! In my opinion root isn't as needed, although I'm missing some features like the ability to download Instagram photos, and some eye candy mods, not much is needed.

I may try the old towelroot app, but i currently have a metro lmq710ms stylo 4 and it IS bootloader locked...you need a bin file that's derived from an algorithm that uses the device ID and IMEI supplied by LG to unlock the bootloader using a fastboot command. Currently, this device isn't on LG's list of approved devices for an unlock but if I'm correct the device is essentially a slimmed down spec lmg710 which means it likely uses the same bootloader. Only problem is without knowing LG's algorithm that's building the unlock.bin file we can't generate one using our device ID/IMEI combination.
I would say bug LG about it, but i fear this device isn't going to get enough people angry to get the job done! :/ which is a shame because it's a lovely budget device! Runs great! And a few root tweaks and kernel adjustments could really have it running like a flagship!

If someone was willing to share an official unlock.bin for a lmg710 then there's a REMOTE possibility a .bin could be built but it would be device-dependent, meaning the file would need editted for each device cuz they all have different dev id and imei's....i know there were some folks looking at it on another bl locked lg device but it's a real toughie with STRONG chances for bricking the bootloader...

The only thing i want more than root which is alot easier is the AR Stickers port from LG G7 ThinQ.. Im currently working on it with an apk tool app i can share.. Its hard to find.. Any help would be appreciated.. This phone is beast even without root.. I had a guy tell me he prefers it over the iphone 8+ cause its all screen like Galaxy S8, has wide angle camera with qlens so camera port is possible, android 8.1 and 6.2" lcd?! Best free phone i ever had.. Even got the $6 a month issurance cause I'm keeping this for awhile.. But root would be nice..
Ok so without a proper app port im not having luck.. Phone is only 32bit and main apps are 64bit.. Apparently the change need to be made in the manifest but not sure where in the manifest.. So far the ar core app install no prob since its 32bit.. After days found a google camera with modded manifest, its now 32bit and install.. Just ar stickers app port left and no info on modding manifest.. Any help would be appreciated.. This thread got quiet.. What you guys working on
Here are pics of cam working..
