How do you root the ZTE Compel running Android Kitkat 4.4.2?
Here is how I got the phone and why I need to root it.
My parents got me my first android phone for my birthday and I thought "Hey the ZTE Compel looks good. Its got the latest version and everything" I was so wrong. It came with 4GB of storage(The OS took 3GB) and it won't let me do anything with this 32GB SD(or any SD) I have. I can't put any apps on SD so I decided to root. I am decent in Linux so I already know what rooting is. So I download towelroot and its not compatible with my phone. Tried all the modstrings. They all froze. Also I can't seem to find a manual method. Can anyone out there help me root my ZTE Compel?
Seriously.
Its been like a24 hours now and not even a reply saying "I don't know about the phone." I posted this thread hoping to find some expert out there who knew. Im good at computer programming and decent in Linux, but no way an expert in android. If some expert out there sees this maybe you root this phone the exact same way as another new less common ZTE phone.
Thanks.

Thanks but I have already tried that . Any other method or a modstring that works? Temp root modstring won't even work.
Im getting impatient now.
Its hard to believe that some phones can be rooted in just 1 click and I have tried a lot of things but if you have something(even if it requires a computer) please let me know.
Thanks.

I too need help to root ATT Compel. I've tried kingroot Towel, Superoneclick. Not tech enough to understand how to use manual.
I have the same issue. I thought this being a newer phone it would be looked into.

Yes please someone root this phone or find a way to get rid of all the crap that comes preloaded on it. I had to buy this phone because my SGS4 broke and I'm not up for the promotion price for a new one. Got this phone and its a powerful little phone. But man is the internal memory crap and it doesn't support app2sd. So I am always running into insufficient storage problems. I would appreciate someone rooting this device. Whoever roots this device or sends me info on how to root it successfully you got my donation. That's a promise.
Oh and I have tried towelroot, root genius and basically searched the web and there is very little talk on this phone. Maybe it is still too new. Obviously it is not a SGS5 or a Nexus but it is still a cost efficient phone with a quad core processor. Besides its horrible limited built-in storage its a great phone without having to be locked into a contract. Its limited storage can be easily fixed by adding the app2sd feature or just giving us root. That would help a lot. If a dev couple step in and help us out that would be great. You'll have my donation.

Mark me down under 'also interested in this.'
I'm also waiting to find a rooting solution on this phone.... Here's hoping someone is cool enough to help us Compel owners out!
Doesn't look like they are interested in advancing the Z830.
Hi Boys. This Lady Is Your Savior.
Awesome. Ironically I decided to trade it in for an Asus PadFone X Mini. Now I am waiting for root on that. Just did the trade 2 days ago. The irony. However I said I would donate and I am a man of his words. Send me a PayPal or Google wallet link. You deserve a coffee. Thanks!

I'm guessing her claims of our devices' root-salvation proved premature.

So where's the help? I don't see any post or nothing in your post...
Please help!:crying:
Near as I can tell, no one has found an exploit by which to gain root on the ZTE z830 Compel. That's why none of the downloadable root-kits work on it. The "manual method" (as worked on my ZTE Valet) of copying SU & such over using adb, then changing their file permissions won't work for the same reason... There has to be something to exploit in order to get temporary permissios to muck about in the OS files.

Okay, so i come from the Nexus One now having the T-Mobile G2X which is a pretty good phone and already some roots have came out which is great since i could try to back up all my apps from my Nexus One to my new T-Mobile G2X.
Okay, i know the the Universal Androot has the ability to root and unroot your phone with a simple touch of just one button WITHOUT unlocking the bootloader or even restarting
(If you guys didnt know about this, click here to learn more)
Okay, so i heard there is a new app called "SuperOneClick" but im not sure if it works for the T-Mobile G2X (Yes, i know there is something called Google and yes i googled it but i get like 20 different answers)
So im asking this:
Is this "SuperOneClick" compatible with the T-Mobile G2X?
Will it be able to root AND unroot my phone with one touch? (Like the Universal Androot)
Also, there are many threads about this and i cant find the original thread but i know its from this forum, can someone post a link to the thread about this "SuperOneClick" or maybe a thread that tells you how to root the T-Mobile G2X using the "SuperOneClick"?
Thanks!

I'm sure someone has tried, but almost certainly failed. The 006SH is the successor of the 003SH, so if anything it has better security. Nobody has fully cracked the 003SH to my knowledge (Check on these forums if you don't believe me), so it stands to reason that nobody has cracked the 006SH either.
This is manly due to the fact that Japanese Andorid hacking community sucks.
Actually they do have full root and NAND unlocking for the 003/005SH and it appears that the method being used is applicable to other phones too.

The process has already been ported across to the 007SH (http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php/1766709-Softbank-007SH-Unlock-FOUND!), so no reason to believe it wouldnt work for the 006
For now, you should be able to get temporary root with SHBreak:

I have 3 elite 7q tablets. I rooted one with kingo and have had no problems at all. I tried to root another that my daughter uses the same way but kingo will freeze mid way. I tried many times with different programs and apps until I finally gave up. Maybe try an older version of kingo. I dont remember which version i used as it was about 6 months ago. The new version of kingo declares my rooted 7q as unsupported. Hope this helps and good luck

Thank you. I will try, but is there anyone out there who knows alot these types of things that can help out a noob like me a lil bit please.?. Thank you.
My at&t phone was unlocked and rooted when I got it, but it was lacking the last 6 updates, including lollipop, so I unrooted it to bring it up to date (5.0.1). Now I want to root it again, but haven't found any viable way to do it so far.
I tried Framaroot Plus, but that was a bust, and I had to uninstall it or my phone would personally take me out!!
I have read about people going back to KitKat, and I'm beginning to think I may do that, providing I can find out how, or perhaps someone out there knows how to root this phone and can show me?? ~Thanks

Go to GalaxyS4Root.com, Zedomax has the rooting methods for all the S4 models and all the builds they come with, if you don't see a method for yours then there probably isn't one.

Thanks for the reference. Zedomax shows many ways to root the S4 back from 2013 and 2014, but I couldn't find one that would root the SGH-i337 5.0.1. BTW, I suppose I should have mentioned that I have a MAC. I've posted my question on his website. Meanwhile, is there anyone else out there who might be able to help?

I've looked this up before for other members but I don't recall finding anything that will root the 5.0.1 build for your model. You can look into whether or not your device is safe to downgrade to older stock firmware(one that is root able) and then root.

You would need to go to the i337 forum here at XDA and ask other members that have your device, if anyone can tell you, you'll find it there.

Finding my way around on this website is usually laborious and confusing. I did find out about "J0din3" for mac, but that was a bust and a great waste of time, because it's too old and now it's undownloadable. So I tried the latest Wine Bottler; it works with el Capitan OSX (what I'm using on the mac) and was able to get Odin to work. However, it's not recognizing my phone, otherwise, I'd be done by now. Have you ever worked with Wine? Can you tell me how I can get the Odin to recognize my phone? Did I do something out of sequence?
And a separate question for xda-dev at large: Why doesn't xda-dev eliminate all the outdated, old, and useless information that rattles around here like satellite debris and gets a lot of people off on the wrong foot?!

Sorry, I won't be of any help with Mac and my knowledge of linux is less than rudimentary, never used Wine, I use windows when windows apps are needed.
The old stuff still has useful info that still applies I guess, I've never checked XDA-Dev out, I'm not that deep in it yet. I'm working in other areas. Try posting your issues with getting recognized in this link:

Hi, I recently damaged my S4 and decided to upgrade to the S6, so far I love the phone, got it new for $250
However since it's with straight talk in not one of the more common models and I can't really seem to find any information on it, I'm mostly hoping to find a way to root it, a custom recovery would be nice but I certainly don't need it
Has anyone had any experience with this device?
Or could someone maybe point me in the right direction?
Device: Galaxy S6 (Straight Talk)
Model: SM-S907VL
Baseband: S907VLUDU1APG8 (idk if that's important lol)
Android: 6.0.1
I appreciate any help that you guys might be able to give
I am looking for the same!
Would like to root and install CM.
Samsung S6 SM-907VL
I too got the "Black Friday" deal with this phone. It is Straight Talk and is a nice phone. I emailed a popular rooting developer and they have a list a mile long with phones their app will root. But it will not root this model. If someone finds an app that will root, please post.
Looking to root this model too. Could you flash a rom from one that uses the same board and chip set? Essentially turning it from a straight talk phone to Verizon , sprint, or at&t then proceed to root from there? Might be a noob question but I been wondering if it would work

Well hopefully we can hear back soon, I've still had pretty much no luck with this model, seems it's too little know for anything custom yet
Has anyone tried KingRoot?
I've tried Kingroot a few times now, the device is not supported unfortunately
Need root and 7.0 rom!
Seriously been looking for root since I got this phone. Is anyone even working on a root for it? Would the root for sm-s903vl work for the sm-s907vl or would it brick it? At this point I don't even care if I trip Knox. I just want ROOT!!
Fruitless searching for method to root sm-s907VL S6
Has anyone found anywhere that has information about rooting this model or atleast maybe the news that someone is working on it?! I have searched and searched and tried several different methods but nothing has worked yet. I really like this phone so far but I really gotta have my customization fix for it. Thank you to anyone who can give me some hope and of course if I find anything I'll post it here.
Thanks
I don't suppose anyone has had any luck with this device?
I'm having trouble finding stock firmware as well, I was thinking I might try a couple methods for different models but that's a little foolish without a way back to stock...
As a side note, don't buy straight talk phones, nothing seems to exist for them xD
You can get the stock software at www.firmware.gem-flash.com... I've used their copy personally and had no problems..
Device: Galaxy S6 (Straight Talk)
Model: SM-S907VL
I have the same issue and have tried several root tools and none have worked yet. Maybe some devs will get it working for one of them soon.
I have tried everything. If there is somebody smart enough to root the galaxy s6 s907vludu through straightalk please let me know. I have been searching for months. If anybody can find something for this unrootable phone please let me know.
I have model s906l it's an early sts6 and Im currently running s907vl firmware. I think the s906l can be rooted but it's running Android 5.02. My point being if you really want root maybe you can flash the s906l firmware using oden. Update nope I was able to flash up but cant flash back down. Stuck on mm without root for now.

I don't think you can downgrade an OS. Bootloaders would normally not allow it.
I tried flashing the 5.0.2 SM-S906L rom on the SM-S907VL through Odin and it gives a secure boot check fail.
