Ever since I've been using AOSP ROMs, I've never been able to change my Voicemail number. If I add a contact or dial *86 and add the pause, my voicemail pin and then #, my voicemail password will work, but no keypad numbers will work to navigate the voicemail menus.
Is there any workaround, besides manually entering my vm password every time? Perhaps modifying a system file or using an app?

A while back I must have done something to switch my default voicemail password to my Google Voice number. I'm not able to set up GVoice to be my default mailbox, and more importantly, I'm not able to access the default AT&T mailbox, so I've got a pesky icon in my notification area, and the only number it has stored for VM is my Gvoice number, which doesn't receive any voicemail.
I need the default number that AT&T mailboxes use, so I can press and hold "1" and it won't dial Gvoice.
Your voicemail number is going to be different depending on where you live. It will more often have the same area code that you use etc. Of course you can always access your voicemail by calling your own number and then pressing the * or # key on your phone (cant remember which one, usually the * key). Then it will ask you to put in your information, password in the case. That is it, you have your voicemail. (doesnt everyone know this? At one point that was the only way you could even access your voicemails back in the day)
To get your VM number for the area you live in you need to call customer care. There isn't a default number to call. It uses your service area to provide the correct number. You should actually be able to reset your VM settings in the phones settings (in some cases) and this will put the default number back in place. Of course if you have been flashing your phone that might not be the case always.
Good day,
I am new to this kind of phone and wanted to know if there is a way to remap the voicemail icon in the stock dialer. Its currently setup to open Visual Voicemail but I am using the H20 network and Visual Voicemail does not work so I want to set the icon up to just dial the voicemail number.
Thank you in advance.
I think you can add the voicemail number to your contacts then make that a short cut. Hope that helps.
Does anyone know how to apply the voicemail password in a MIUI ROM?
When I got my first VM with this rom it said I didn't have a voicemail number saved on my sim card. I figured out how to add the VM number in the settings and I can now dial my VM at any time by pressing and holding 1. But it keeps asking for my password.
None of my other phones ever required a VM phone number to be manually entered let alone requiring a password each time I call... including my iPhone 3gs on Tmous and all other roms I've installed on my sensation
how did you figure out how to add your voicemail numbers?

The easiest way...
open up the dialer, tap the options key, settings, in Call Settings go down to Settings, Voicemail settings, Voicemail number... add your telephone number including area code.
I cant remember how to get to the Call Settings from the main Settings screen...
haven't been able to bypass the password entry either.
I searched briefly and can't find an answer to this. How do I set up voicemail on CM10? All I get right now is "voicemail number unknown" and can't hear my messages. Any help appreciated!I'm on AT&T by the way.
i had the same issue on aokp
just use your own phone number and it will work. area code first. and then save it.
I got that set up to use my carrier voicemail, but how do you set up Google Voice Voicemail on CM10? When I try to dial the activation code that google gives me, I get "Call forwarding. Connection problem or invalid MMI code."

I kept getting the Connection problem error when dialing the string of numbers Google provides. I had to go into my call settings (open the dialer > menu > settings). Once there I changed my voicemail number as well as my call forwarding number to my Google Voice number. There are three different field for call forwarding, I changed them all. The next time I called myself it went straight to my Google Voicemail and the app alerted me there was a new voicemail.
Note: When I installed the Google Voice app, I skipped all set up regarding Voicemail. Not sure if that makes a difference or not, but that's the process I followed.
The default voice mail number that came with the phone is *86
To get to that setting hit the DIALER icon, settings, Voicemail, setup, voicemail number.
It allows me to change that to *86,password# and says it changed it but it doesn't. (password is my numeric voicemail password)
It is a MOTOG on Verizon 4.4.2 ROM and it is rooted.
Anyone experiencing this?

I have the same problem on all the 5 Moto G phones with the Verizon rom. The change just will not stick. I find that strange that one can't make changes to the Voicemail number. Sort of idiotic from Verizon to block this feature.
and for people who are suggestion YouMail is fine but I still want to program the YouMail voice mail number into that slot.
Just want to make this fail save for first time smart phone users.

Thanks....thought it was just me.
I use DIALER-ONE instead of the default dialer (which I hate). You can add a speed dial to your voicemail which works fine.
