[Q] A bit worried about my OnePlus One - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Alright guys, background story :
1) I live in Switzerland, the chinese OnePlus One fits my need in terms of LTE
2) Even if I got an invite, OnePlus doesn't deliver in Switzerland
So I got a OnePlus One from a trusted seller in Switzerland. Price was NICE, service was excellent delivered in 5 days !
It came preloaded with CM11S, the seller seems to flash it over Color OS The baseband matches the global CM OnePlus One
BUT when I got it and started for the first time, there was some bloatware apps, nothing too terrible but like 3 apps. I was ready to root it and get ride of them (even if I didn't intend to root the OPO).
But also, when I booted the 38R OTA appeared ! (YAY, OTA seems to work ) and I applied it. Guess what, all the bloatware apps are GONE ! I guess the OTA got ride of apps that shouldn't be in /system.
Now everything is working awesome. But I'm a bit worried. Should I be afraid by the 3 bloat apps that were there at first ? Is maybe my OPO somehow remote controlled ?
I know fast boot, I know ADB but if I can avoid flashing an image on my OPO that is now all set up, that would be pretty nice.
What do you guys think ?
Also, have all a wonderful day !

It depends. Do you remember at all what the 'bloat apps' were?

Well, there was this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.lovoo.android
Also something that looked like an antivirus. It was "Dr. ..." something
And one that looked like a market app store Mobie.
They were installed as /system so is it possible that the CM OTA got ride of everything that wasn't meant to be in /system ?

Maybe you can install cm11s

It's already installed. It would just be much better if I don't have to re-install everything just to be sure. Anyway I could track my OPO to see if something weird is happening in the background ?

Sorry @Bluewall i didn't notice! As i read it the second time I noticed you are concerned about the security!Just track if any unwanted app is trying to break in!(as you said),but i dont think you should worry that much![emoji3]

My FIRST OPO was a Chinese variant which came with CM11S installed OVER ColorOS and i had about 4GB worth of used space which included apps like QQ etc videos and other stuff. I couldnt live with it so i completely wiped and flashed CM11S myself. If your feeling paranoid just DIY .

Wow ! I had like 3 small apps lol.
Since the OTA wiped /system I should probably be okay now right ?

Yeah that was some scary stuff... ON topic YES i think you are fine. :good:

You might be fine now if the OTA removed Color OS and, subsequently, the three applications that were likely adware or spyware. Perhaps there is some sort of monetary incentive for pushing those applications on phones like this preinstalled so that they begin to propagate information to advertisers and scammers alike.

I do believe the seller get some money to put those apps pre-installed on the device for advertising. It kind of explain why it wasn't that much more expensive that the global version !
But putting them on /system is pretty stupid (for them!) since as soon as you update the phone it wipes /system.

Noob question sorry, is nexus s plain android or is there bloatware installed?

About to buy one and I just wanna know

Pure vanilla Android.
There's a bunch of stuff preinstalled on it, but it's all Google stuff; I don't think there's any third-party apps.
It's not plain android, there's a bunch of Google bloatware.

I'm curious as to what you consider Google bloatware, because the Nexus S is about as plain as you can get. Most of the time bloatware is stuff added by OEMs, such as the preinstalled demo games on the MT4G. Mind elaborating?
I can't speak for JC, but in my mind, anything that comes preinstalled on a device which I neither want nor need is bloatware. This, of course, makes the entire concept subjective, but in general with things like Android, I think less is more, since you can download nearly all of these things from the Market anyway. The consumer-side justification of "bloatware" (revenue for the provider, of course, being the primary, producer-side justification) is to present the user with access to a service they might otherwise not know to look for. ("Oh, hey, my phone can play TV/can display YouTube/has internet radio/whatever!"). For most of us though, particularly anyone savvy enough to be on XDA in the first place, most of it ends up falling into one of three categories:
-Don't care about
-Use a different app for
-Would have downloaded if it wasn't included.
In any case, I've observed that what most people have the biggest issue with isn't that stuff may come preinstalled on their phone, it's that you can't get rid of it, and if you do, you may well open yourself to a world of trouble should you ever wish to install an OTA update.
I would consider it plain android, as the "bloatware" on it is really only google apps, which come with all android phones. It doesn't have bloatware from a third party though like some of the other android phones. Either way, bloatware can be removed off any rooted phone with titanium backup

Fair enough points.
Unfortunately, we still run into that last issue even on the Nexus S. Folks were unable to update via the stock 2.3.1 OTA if they had modified system files, such replacing the stock Mms.apk or Gmail.apk with the black/custom ones from the Themes & Apps section or deleting any of their relevant .odexs. Even placing the missing files back on the system partition didn't seem to work, at least for me. It was a very curious update.

Yeah, I soft-bricked my Vibrant trying to grab T-Mobile's OTA after I took it upon myself to delete all the extraneous crapware that came with it. They can be very touchy indeed. It's a steep learning curve for newbies. x_x

True, but it does still support up to 7.2Mbps down which you'll only get in a t-mobile 4g area.
I was just in Orlando and i was getting around 5-6Mbps on my N1 and in a Nexus S i was testing at best buy and it was pretty damn fast. puts my DSL connection at home to shame.

I don't think Google has an office app for Android. Every device has launched with some kind of partnered 3rd party, either ThinkFree, or Quickoffice. At least, I think those are the two they've used.
If they didn't, you wouldn't be able to read any kind of text document on your phone and that's just kind of a silly thing to not be able to do, imo.
EDIT: And on that note, Google should probably make a office app! lol
Who really cares whats installed or not, EVERYTHING can be uninstalled.
after using ThinkFREE for a while on the Galaxy S, i can say it's really good
way better than the Docs To Go and/or QuickOffice which i'm using on the XT720
but truth is... you don't need any of those with Google Office online, it's so much easier to keep things and work with documents using Google Office Online

Dual Window

I don't want to get into a whole debate about root but I am coming from the G3 and previously had the G2. I had both of these rooted with excellent Cloudy stock Roms.
It is my goal to live without root on this phone. It seems to run great, has enough ram and battery to handle lost background apps with little to almost zero lag. I am just kinda tired of the TWRP, ROOT, TB, Flashing lifestyle... Lol. Been doin it since the HD2.
However I did not discover until yesterday while using the phone unrooted that Dual Window is only limited to a handful of apps. I guess with the rooted Roms the mod for other apps was already in place so I never noticed. I honestly gotta say that's pretty terrible. I don't understand the thought process behind why LG would limit such a strong multitasking feature. I personally used it to balance my checkbook beside my bank app. SUPER EASY! Now this kind of sucks. It might be enough to make me root it. I am trying the ad block thing I found in another post but this dual window thing is a FAIL without root IMHO.
Otherwise this is a bad ass phone. I am loving it.

Yep
Yep... And this is the first phone I tried to go without Titanium Backup... How do people live like this?!?! Lol... I guess we'll see.... What I'd like to see is the manufacturers just do stuff like that on their own.....
Samsung, the creators of multi-window, have a restrictive list too. I never bypassed it though. Kind of annoying. They've had it for years too.

Hooooly crap that's alot of work to have something as simple as dual window support. What happens when the app updates? Does that change anything?
Again this just goes back to manufacturers just taking care of their customer base. This should be a non-issue.... Maybe I'll fool around with this at some point but honestly just rooting will probably be easier and provide more overall benefits once it is accomplished (which I would imagine would be sooner rather than later.) I'm always willing to donate for developers hard work. Definitely worth it.
Thanks for sharing this friend!
It's not as bad as it looks tbh. Once you become familiar it's a fairly quick process.

I've used this on a few apps and it works great. Took a little bit of time to figure it out the first app (I have zero experience with this type of thing), but after that it went pretty quick.
I just verified it with some apps I edited for my G3 that it works fine on the fancy new V10.

Maybe I will give it a try. It seems intimidating but perhaps it's not. What happens if an app updates via the Play store? Does it overwrite your changes?

Hah, I've got no idea honestly. That reddit thread that was posted isn't too old; I haven't had any of the apps I messed with updated yet.

Can anybody help me with that ? And also I did a Google Map but can not install on my phone because the original one is a system app.

[Discussion] Why I would never again buy Huawei Phone! And why you shouldn't too!

FIRST: This is my own opinion. You may disagree with it!
My Reasons:
I have Huawei P9. Looking at their Update policy I am not happy with it. P8 is not going to get a Nougat update which is SHAME! Not even 2 years of OS support... What a joke. This means My P9 most likely will not updated to a newer version after Nougat... Which means I will never again pay so much money for something that won't get at least 2 new OS updates (whole version).
Next: Nougat update. It's a complete JOKE. What's new? Split screen, App drawer (lol what innovation here!), couple redesign small things... Take a look at Samsung. They are actually adding new stuff... New apps that are useful: Password manager which makes a bigger use of the fingerprint scanner. Note app. New other stuff. And to be honest their Skin looks so much better. Colors are better. Did you see the ugly Black and Dark Blue colors on the Quick toggles on Huawei Nougat? Damn the guy who came with this idea should be fired as soon as possible! No Double tap to wake up, no raise to wake up... But hey they have Knuckle gestures.. Never used them? What a sick person will knock on his phone.. So dumb... Everytime I want to check my screen I have to look for the fingerprint or power button, chick with case makes a little harder to press everytime the power button, in the dark it's super annoying when you mistake it with Volume down... It's just annoying. Give me something easier. Wave to wake up, raise, double tap... Give me all of them and let me choose...
Next: Icons with app drawer are ridiculously BIG! I guess Huawei designers know nothing about aesthetics or don't care...
Next: Notes app doesn't sync with Gmail. I had iPhone and Samsung phones in the past. I really like Stock apps for notes, they are Free, no ads and easy to use.. And they sync with a Google account... This is not the case here.. There is just half baked app, made for 10 minutes while most likely the dude what on the WC...
So many stock Bloat but no Reminders app... Again! Did you try to set simple reminder without using Google Now? I did.. You need to go to Calendar, make Event, turn 100 option some ON, some OFF... Just give me a simple App like on iOS to make a Reminder in 10 secs.. Is this so hard? I guess it's so much easier than making 10 apps that no one is using...
Next: Nothing about Daydream... I guess it won't work with P9...
Next: Again Updates: Sammy released 4 BETA updates, iOS releases many Betas to make sure everything is OK when the final is released to the public.. Huawei still on 1st beta!!!! And most likely this will be the last... We will get Official release full of bugs and will have to wait months for a fix! Thank you Huawei!!!
Next: Huawei is one of the last OEMs that still hasn't uploaded their Stock apps on the Play Store. And we need to wait Months if there is a problem with some of the stock apps! Did you use the stock Huawei keyboard? Did you see how outdated it is? Doesn't have even all the emojis... Not talking about he look from 2008....
Next: Video recording software. Pixel uses software stabilization too, but it's so much better. Video recording quality is ridiculous for a phone at this price... Again I think someone did the coding while was doing his work on the WC... If Pixel can have a lot better recording with software stabilization why we should settle with suck a Joke?
This is why I won't buy another phone from Huawei. Too much negatives for me. And feeling sorry I didn't get the S7... The metal build was more important for me, but i did a mistake.. Should have taken the Glass.. Obviously other OEMs are doing a lot better job...
P.S: Biggest deal breaker: Updates... !
What's the problem if we're currently using Nougat Public Beta? I don't see any fallback. The official will be rolled out sooner or later.
Sent from my EVA-L19 using Tapatalk
Hi Martin, thanks for sharing your opinion, which you're very much entitled to of course.
I'm not too worried about the update. It'll come. It's my experience that almost ALL OEMs are slow at updating to the latest version (Samsung, LG, Oneplus). And when the update comes it's either full of bugs (Oneplus) or makes your phone come to a screeching halt (Samsung).
Notes app... I haven't found anything better than Google Keep for that and it syncs across my devices. Reminders I usually set via the calendar which isn't really an issue for me, but I'm sure there are reminders apps in the Playstore.
Granted, Huawei does have quite a bit of bloat on it, BUT... It doesn't seem to have an impact on either battery life or speed of the phone for me. For me my P9 is my first phone which even after a good 5 months usage is still just as swift and fluid as the first day I got it. And everything just works.

I am not saying it's a bad phone. It's a great phone, but the support is kinda poor. I am not rushing for the Nougat. I don't mind waiting if they will release a really stable version. Not happy that they are on the 1st beta and maybe this will be last and while most problems will be fixed, while they fix them most likely there will be a new one. And there is not a big improvement in Nougat. They could expand some things, make them better. It most of the time color change...
Don't mind the bloat too, I put all the stuff in a folder and forget they exist.
As I said the phone is great, but they could work a little better on the software.

Here in Bulgaria - Beta 1. In the official beta thread no reports for another update, but you got 3.. Strange.
Well the P8 won't be updated due to the same reasons as the Xperia Z3 from Sony. The Kirin used in the sP8 simply is not compatible with Vulkan and therefore Googles Certification Process for Android 7. As this does not happen regularly, you should be able to see updates for your P9 for at least 2 years i guess.

Are you invited for beta test? If not, what is the cust for bulgaria?
Why more betas than stable?
Better is to modify 6.0 and make a backup, if 7.0 got bugs in first global releases, then u can go back.
Why we need the same like other manufacture? Its enough now.
For every stuff have their pros / cons no one the best just find the one that fit for you, Huawei do good progress (not the best) and I dint see any new in software in other phone all are same / running on native Android ,you can go for non OEM firmware phone if need more software modification , but Huawei phone I think thay made for standard / daily driver like Apple...
Sounds like the op should have gone to Samsung, you are basically criticising the huawei because its not a samsung.....
I came from samsung and most of the things you point out as negatives are positives to me.
Placement of fingerprint scanner is perfect, touchwiz is awful and filled to the brim with bloat and ugly icons.
You complain about updates, just buy a samsung and see how long before you end up rooting it just so you can get an update or remove bloatware.
Sent from my EVA-L09 using XDA-Developers mobile app
Some of these points are valid, however, the software is as it is because Huawei is a Chinese brand. Huawei is huge in china, and in china, this software is what sells. And if you don't like the stock apps, just download new ones. If you don't like the launcher, download a new one. That is the beauty of android. There are points of EMUI that I don't like either, but most of them I was able to fix by downloading apps and customizing what I could in the settings.
Has somebody forced you to buy the Huawei? If you have bought the phone without acquiring some information before is your fault.
You knew about the update, the software and the pro a d cons, why are you complaining?
If you thought that the samsung was better than the Huawei why you bought it? Take a s7 edge and be happy.

In most European countries after you buy a phone and open the box, you can't give it back or exchange for another brand.
And it's Shipment, not SOLD... Still it's a great phone, for most people who are not too much into phones or know what other phones can do or how often they are updated, or don't care about updates they would be very happy with this phone. I am happy most of the time while using it. Small things are ruing my usage and this is the problem, they are small, fixable but no one is fixing them.

As the title says, I've finally got GSM all working great on my phone but have one major question. Is it possible to lose the services by installing certain apps or even updating my phone in anyway? I want to be extra careful that I don't lose them as it transforms the phone to how I like it.

I upgraded fro 131 to 147 without any problem.
Answer to the initial question - None of the app updates or Huawei update broke anything after I set up GMS on my P40 pro. I even updated a google play service 2 weeks ago via Aurora store. All good, all working fine.
Thanks for that I can now use my phone worry free.
I'm on 131 can I force a update to 147 or do I just have to wait until I get it OTA?

Is the oneclickroot website legitimate?

Ive been having some serious issues with my poco f2 pro since the moment i recieved it. It CONSTANTLY doing weird $h!t lije reseting itself via google l, every time i go from my house to my girlfriends google is trying to reset up my phone. Alot of other indications,...at least to make me believe, thats somehow someone has gained access to my phone or some account.
I AM NOT TECH OR PHONE OR NETWORK SAVY GUY, but due to all the issurs ive been seeing unfold with my devices, im taking a SERIOUS interest in learning in hopes of this never happening again and perhaps im slightly hoping that if someone HAS been molesting my privacy anfmd phuqin with my mind by doing all this, id just LOVE to spend 5 miutes alone if givin the chance.
So i spent the money to have my phone rooted via oneclickroot.com
It hasnt been done yet because FOR SOMECREASON i cantvget the adb interface to recognize my device. But what i need to know is is this company reputable? Or should i just taje the sixty dollar loss n not go back to have it done?

If I understood correctly, someone is trying to reset your phone via google and you have to pay to root the phone but without success?
