[Q] Need advice on battery usage application development

Hi guys,
I am a starter with android development. I need to develop a simple battery usage monitor for my ongoing research. (similar to android watchdog, Current Widget, Power tutor, Spare Parts, etc). I also want to add sensor toggler in the program itself. Is there any tutorial that you suggest I can start looking for this..a book or video tutorials that get me going? Is this gonna be hard work?
Thanks,,

[Completed] force hardware rendering

on ics.. developer option have this feature..pls explain what it actually does...
any performance improvement...?
what about battery life...?
Hardware Rendering as the name states, uses the GPU to render UI and app screens on the phone. This is particularly effective with videos which tend to see more boost as against Software decoders that chew up Ram and use Processor.
A quick search on the forum found me this Guide. Irrespective of Device platform, Certain android features act the same. You might be better off posting such queries in your Device forum or General Android Q&A forum.
Please note, the Assist forum is for new members who need to find their feet and need to know where to go.
The mission of Assist forum is
The mission of XDA Assist is to provide basic help to those who have tried searching but can't find what they are looking for and need assistance. This is not a "helpdesk" providing technical assistance but more to point you in the correct direction with your problem. Perhaps you can't find posts on how to root your phone, install custom recovery or maybe you have questions about how to navigate and use features on the site.

Best Kernel and settings

Hello everyone!
I'm making this thread because I want to know (and others too) what the best kernel settings are for our osprey.
So please share your kernel setup with us
I mainly prefer battery backup and cooler temperatures.
thanks!

Kernel Tweaking Settings (Synapse,3c,Toolkit)

I was hoping to get some feedback on what settings people are using either with Synapse-skyhigh kernel or Kernel Toolkit-Sickness kernel (or 3c,kernel adiutor, etc) and what the goal is of your settings (battery, performance, guessing) and which rom you are using. Like:
Rom/Kernel-
Kernel App-
List of anything changed from default-
Governer-
Battery-
Etc-
Reason for settings- (performance, battery, mixture, etc)
Actual result of settings- (terrible, good battery, bad battery/good performance, etc.
Each time I use either Skyhigh or Sickness I find myself going through synapse or 3c and chicken out on changing anything important looking as I have no idea what repercussions are. I was looking in general forum threads for each but am hoping for a more specific to our device kind of feedback.
I really hope there are several responses with various types of setups as it would GREATLY be appreciated as Im aware the time to respond a setting list is not generally looked forward to but Im also aware any thread I start gets a few replies at the most so to the few or hopefully wide audience I thank you ahead of time. To those that laugh at my no reply result know that I am too.

Custom ROM request for ZTE Quest (Wellington) (N817)

I know according to the system XDA uses I'm still technically a 'new member', but I'm hoping someone can find the time to help me out with this, as I have no PC of my own.
I've already taken kernel optimization and CPU tuning to the greatest length stock can get, but there are still too many periods of lag or unresponsiveness, so I'm looking for a custom ROM to help ease the burden of necessary system tasks on resources.
If someone is able to help, I can provide the firmware for my device.
Thank you in advance if you can.
