Hi guys and gals.
FINALLY got the note 4 about an hour ago, wow,,,, anyways
I have a note 2 with a brodit active dock, i was looking for a replacement from brodit but they still have yet to list one.
Once my note arrived i was suprised how similar the two phone were so i tried the phone in my dock, everything lines up but the note 2 has a rounder bottom that the dock wraps around.
a quick knife later and a little bit of boring i now have a dock that fits both my note 2 and note 4 (wife will be pleased)

Ive just ordered another note 2 dock to go into her car so the phones are now interchangable between cars!!
Looks awesome... Too bad it isn't compatible with a bulky tough case or I will would be all over it
cheers mate, thats why i use the noreve cases as they are easily removed to dock with those cases.
Waiting for mine to arrive as they are backlogged.
If you're looking for a car dock that works with a bulky case check out the Akron Mega Grip. They make a number of mounting styles including 3 that plug into your 12v outlet for charging. I've had mine for almost 3 years and it works flawlessly. I got one of the models that charges the phone.

By "active" dock, does that mean it puts the phone in dock mode? If so, does it work for the Note 4 too?

Na, i am not sure what brodit mean by active as it never did activate any dock mode while in the car, all i know is thier active range have chargers.
I use me car bluetooth to active car mode - i have a seperate app as htc car dock mode put me of oems dock modes for life.
Active means a build in charger indeed. There are two versions. Either via a 12V adapter for the cigarette socket , with the charging wire always dangling visible over the dashboard. Or via cabling that can be invisible routed inside the dashboard and connected to 12V somewhere. The active versions are brilliant, in particular with a Car Dock App you have all you need. (my experience with the Car Home Ultra app is extremely positive).
The 12V cigarette adapter version is ugly but easy to install. The version with internal cabling is the best looking solution, but depending on the access to 12V more difficult to install.

I recently saw this and made sense to me to get the sucker. I have my N1 in front, my iTouch in the back and my wife's SE can be charged on the last remaining slot.
This unit is really small, pretty well belt and comes in black/silver/pink. And they have the 3 or 2 charging slots and come with either a 6 tip package or you can pick and choose 4 tips, according to what you want to charge.
Here's the unit, I got the silver 3 slot version. It has a on/off switch on the back as well in case you want to just turn off the unit when not in use.

The seller, idaptweb.com. Its a great site, but communication is lacking. I received this unit in about a week. Ships from Spain I think.
There's no possible way that can be good for the micro usb port of your nexus. Or any device for that matter. Get your rma ready!
What privacy screen do you have on that iphone in your pic?

That's what I initially thought as well. But to me its pretty sturdy. I have the OEM cradle at work as my backup anyways. But I will continue to monitor it just in case.

It's an iTouch actually. The privacy screen is from proporta.com. They do have iphone privacy screen protectors as well. Its a very well made product IMO.
UPDATE:
I continue to use this "universal" charger at home and have the OEM one at work. I have NOT had any issues with the bottom of the headset. The unit is well made and so is the N1.
Here is another "universal" charger as well. About 100 bux USD on this site but looks pretty contemporary as well. I have not used this one, but from the looks of it, the base is a cushion type base, that gives a bit to hold the devices.

the first charger dock stand thing is almost the ugliest thing i have ever seen posted on the forum, and the pic of the glass one with the PSP on it looks stupid as well..
these types of stands will wear out the micro usb port over time

Damn, a little malicious, no? LOL
For the asthetics, its ok in my book. Each his/her/it own. You can rub your
.02 up your collective tight twat and ask for change at your local KMart.
As for the wearing down of the port, it may but by the time that happens, I may be on to my next handset. Just my .02

If not for the apple accessories, I would have told you to wait until Energizer released one of those pad-charge-capable batteries for the N1.
Also, if you use the pins instead of the microUSB connector a la desktop/car dock, the phone charges RIDICULOUSLY faster. I've had data, GPS, music, etc. with my phone docked and it still went up 20% in charge during a less than 10 minute trip. I wish I could make something like that up. (It was uncomfortably warm, but definitely usable)
ok, was bummed to find out that both my car chargers didn't work with the atrix 2, so i picked up the car dock today at the at&t store for $40. i'll preface this with the fact that this dock is $99 at motorola, $59 from amazon, but only $40 from at&t.
this is probably the best accessory purchase i have ever made for any device i have ever owned, lol. seriously. it's well constructed, sticks firmly to the windshield (can also mount to dash), the dc plug has 2 ports on it, the usb cable also carries audio and has a 3.5mm jack plug, the dock can accommodate a small case, the usb plug on the dock can be removed and flipped for the 4g and it charges, lol
some pics i took of it tonight

for $40, you can't go wrong. at&t wanted $30 for one of the generic dc plug with a coiled cable things, so for $10 more and 60% less than what motorola wanted and $20 cheaper than amazon, i couldn't pass on the deal.
if you're looking for a car charger or vehicle mount solution, pick this up before at&t realizes their price point is off, lol
You think it would work with the commuter case or not?
Hmm, I almost pulled the trigger but I've already got a gps that does all of that

not sure, if you look at this pic
you can see the insert used to fit a phone without a case, if the commuter is about that thick, then it should work
I have the commuter case and it doesnt work with the hard shell but you can easily put it in there with the silicone case still on it not too much of an inconvenience only takes me about 10 secs to get off the case and put it back on.
I picked mine up today and It works with the Red speck case they sell. its a nice fit too. Im going to look at the multimedia dock and see if it also fits with the speck case.
I've asked this in another thread, so I'm sorry if I'm coming across as annoying...
Can someone who has the car dock and a multi-meter check the resistance value between the usb pins (specifically between pins 4 & 5)? I've made my own dock (I realize I could have bought the dock, but I like making things like this, and I think it turned out fairly nice) but it's still missing the audio out through the usb. I'm still working off the assumption that the car dock mode is triggered via a specific resistor value on the ID pin and the audio out is with pins 2 & 3 (pin 5 is the common ground).
Again, sorry for bringing this up again in another thread, but I still haven't gotten anyone to make the measurement yet.
Thanks!
I bought this dock for my wife's Sensation, and tried it on my MT4GS, and it fitted without a problem.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B007CU1XZM
when the HTC Sensation is fitted, the headphone socket is obscured, but with the MT4GS you can slide the display up of course and expose the headphone jack. It does shift the centre of gravity which could be a problem.
the fit is quite tight you if you do have a case you'll have to remove it - or at least the case back if you have the keyboard open.
if anyone wants, I'll take a photo with it fitted.
I guess you could drill out a whole for a headphone....
Here's the US market version. http://www.amazon.com/Aftermarket-Product-Charging-Replacement-Sensation/dp/B006VAKXZA

The phone sits pretty well, the keyboard is a little bit slid out as the phone is a bit thicker, and there's no access to the power button. Pretty good thing for 9 bucks value. I'm considering about adopting this dock for my car and it would be nice to have audio-out also there at the same time. Anybody done this?

Well, I bought different dock (also for Sensation) for $10, which you can see in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1710736
I had the same idea as you do, to use it as a "stand" in my car. I have tried that in a "dry test" and it seemed like a good idea at first, so I ordered second dock and when it arrived I just placed it on rubbery-gel mat on my dashboard and voila - good to go, or so I thought.
Unfortunately when I started to drive with it, the phone rattles. Placing thin rubber strips didn't help, it only eliminated the noise, but the phone was still (silently now) rattling there on the dock while driving. I was afraid this constant vibration will damage the microUSB port sooner or later, since the port is the only thing holding the phone on the dock, and after couple days I quit using it. Also inserting and removing phone to/from dock wasn't comfortable, because my windshield is at pretty high angle I couldn't just insert phone into dock or remove it from dock, unfortunately I had to take the whole dock towards steering wheel to do it.
I'm just placing my phone on a dashboard mat against the fold (so it stays in horizontal mode upright) and plug the sound cable from my wifi transmitter and power cable if needed. This way is the most convenient way for me. If I won't forget I'll take some pictures.
Anyways, I would strongly advise against using any desktop docks in a car, because - regardless of dock's model or shape - they all have 1 thing in common: phone is being hold there just by the microUSB plug, which is not designed for this purpose, and it is rather delicate and easy to damage (once I broke miniUSB plug in my HTC TyTN II just by slightly prying phone into the dock because I was too lazy to get up in my bed... and the miniUSB socket by design is way sturdier than this crappy microUSB socket in our MT4GS).
Driving will cause the phone to shake/vibrate/rattle in the dock on your dashboard, and I am sure it will cause damage to the microUSB port sooner or later.
HTH
Thanks for the advice. Went to ebay for the official mytouch car kit with holder (with intergrated micro-USB connector) and found one for just a 10.5 bucks + S&H cost. Unfortunately, that seller doesn't ship internationally So I found another one, this time it costed total of 28 bucks. But for such price I get an ultimate solution.
Nice
I bought the one recommended by Samsung (EDD-D200BEGSTD) but it doesn't fit at all on the Relay.
There's a ridge in front of the USB connector that pushes up against the keyboard.
samsung dot com then /us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/EDD-D200BEGSTA
(Sorry for the munged URLs but XDA still thinks I might be a spammer. )
I'm considering one of these two Ezos:
amazon dot com then EZOPower-Desktop-SmartPhone-Charger-Samsung/dp/B009I1UH32/ref=sr_1_17?ie=UTF8&qid=1367963402&sr=8-17&keywords=smartphone+cradle

Anybody had experience with them? I'll probably just try them one at a time and report back if either works.
So I tried the EZO Power Dock cradle (EZCR30) and it fits the Relay WITH the Incipo case on it! Joy
Plus this one has a headphone jack on the back, in case I ever need it.

The cradle is going back to Amazon.
It seems I got a defective unit. It drops the USB connection, and sometimes it drops it then picks it right up again. It's basically behaving like there's a loose wire inside.
The unit looks great, but the connectors seem to be cheaply made. The jack that plugs into the phone's port is on a slider to accommodate different thicknesses of phones, or a phone with a case on it. Great feature, but the slider doesn't move smoothly and gets crooked easily.

Time to try the other one, but it's cheaper so we'll see.
Similarly I took the plunge and bought this dock on the basis of your Note2 dock tryouts:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00A39EV8U/ref=redir_mdp_mobile?ref_=pe_217191_31005151_M3T1_dp_1
Happy to report although this is for the Note2... our device fits this cradle/dock - EVEN with the Incipio case!
Spare battery slot at the back of this dock needs something small to wedge our slightly narrower then Note2 battery into the battery slot (for the pins to attach/afix to the +/- battery connectors.)
The USB connector on the dock is very rigid/solid.
The fact that the Relay fits into this module, possibly proves that the distance from the backplate of both Relay & Note2 devices to there micro USB ports at the base of these 2 phones are identical... such that the Relay fits into the Note2 dock slot (without & with the Incipio case, much the way it's intended to for the Note2 in Pic1 & Pic3 respectively.)
The dock slot has an adapter/plate which you can make out in the 2nd pic, which is attached into the dock for when the phone is without a cover (to pad the dock slot space accordigly.) Alternatively this adapter/attachment is removed to cater for the added thickness of the Incipio cover in our case.
(Of course the width of the dock slot is over sized for our narrower Relay compared to the Note2, however this specific docks sturdy micro USB port keeps the Relay standing upright & comfortably at that.)
What that means is I guess any Note2 dock will suffice in that theory. Only as long as the 'depth' of the dock slot is suffice for our thicker Relay over Note2.
I'm happy with this dock so far.
Works welll, will post pictures tomorrow.
However, dock mode doesn't seem to activate on the Relay whilst running CM10.1 at least, weather that's a known issue in CM or it's the dock at fault I'm unsure. But I have read dock issues with CM10.1. The dock charges the phone at the least. (May test a stock ROM see what happens.)

I just bought the EZO Power cradle (EZCR30) and I'm unimpressed by it. The USB data connection does not work at all, only allows me to charge. I've tried with several different USB cables that all work and only get charge. Bypassing the cradle allows me to get USB data again.
I'm tempted to rip this unit apart and route my USB wire into the unit manually.
These just arrived:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CEISG3Y/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00C4CVTDY/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i02?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Black one for me (dark S4), white one for wife (white S4).
Her's has a switch on the back to choose between for charge mode (via micro-usb) vs. audio out mode (via 3.5mm audio cable), mine has a slot to charge a spare battery in the back. It doesn't charge when set to audio-out. The white one came w/two USB cables - one for a power adapter, one for computer.
Our S4s fit easily into the dock w/their cases on (we're using the slim TPU-like cases that Costco includes w/the phones), with some wiggle room on each side and front-to back. The micro-USB connection is tight enough that you have to use two hands to put it in or take it out, which I prefer for safety/stability. (There are comments in the reviews regarding cases the docks work/do not fit.) The docks come w/their own 1.5A charger and cable, but we just connected the micro-USB charging cord that Samsung provides w/the phones to the back of the docks.
The docks come w/an insert that you can leave in for a phone w/out a case, or remove if you are using a case.
The two docks look pretty much exactly the same except for their configuration for battery charging vs. audio out/charge switch, but they come from two different suppliers and have different names. But the source manufacturer certainly looks like it's the same.
For $25 we're pretty happy, takes up very little space on the nightstand, appears to be well enough made, and the fit is good w/the case on, which has always been an issue w/other phones we've owned, not fitting, or not fitting well w/a case on. Would buy these again...
Dock w/charge and audio-out modes (via switch on back)

Yeah, the main point of this thread was that these docks work w/out having to remove the case, which for many of us is a must. Taking the case off and putting it back on every day gets very annoying, very quickly.
