So I have a friend who broke the glass on his G2X, he needed a new phone and bought on of mine from me. He eneded up just giving me the G2X too! So my question here is...
Has anyone here replaced the glass before on this phone?
If so, how are is it to do, and where did you get the parts from?
Thanks in advance!
I would love to know also, I managed to drop my phone for the second time today. The first time it was on asphalt, but absolutely nothing happened. Today it fell on tile, directly hitting the slight curve in the screen in the upper right corner. Low and behold, it's pretty cracked, but the LCD is perfectly fine.
So much for the Corning Gorilla Glass.

changing digitizer glass
I had gotten a g2x with a broken digitizer glass off ebay not far back. I also bought ths new digitizer glass on ebay as well for about 54 dollers. There is a video on youtube that shows how to change it but it leaves a couple of things out witch I had to sort out but it was not that hard at all. I will try to post what they left out so yuo all can fix yours.
As well I will try to post pics of ths two things to be carefull about so you do not mess anything up. I may not be able to post it till thiss weekend

Hello everyone,
I got my Nexus 5 in white back in August and it's an amazing phone but I recently came across something that confused me.
As I tried to apply a tempered glass screen protector I noticed I couldn't get it to apply properly on the bottom, right under the screen. After a closer look I found out that the glass isn't even there. It's curved inwards which in turn makes it impossible to apply a glass screen protector without air.
Now the device is functioning fine but I'm not sure if this will be covered by warranty. It seems like a defect since I can't think of any physical event causing that. I've never let it fall down and it's still in perfect condition otherwise.
If I could get some advise on what I can do here or if anyone's got similar experience I'd love to hear about it.
Same here just below led notification it's nothing and came like this from factory I have my n5 since last week seen this the 2nd day but you can see it just when you move the phone in light it does not bother me I don't use any screen protector
You need to gently clamp in together on that spot, using a thin cloth to avoid scratches. Leave it for an hour and should stay gone.
Did with my Mime ghost glass. ?

Don't over do it obviously, or you could crack it.
Yes it is not quite flat. As above, clamp it for 30 minutes or so. I used some cloth wrapped around the phone and a bulldog clip.
This is a commong thing? That doesn't sound good, I kinda hope it's covered by warranty, I'll contact the vendor to see if they can replace it.
They're all the same. Just a design flaw.
Replace it and you'll most likely see the next one is no different.

Every one of them is like this. It may even be intentional rather than a flaw. We don't know. Its just the way the N5 is.
Hey guys. I have the samsung galaxy s6 active and yesterday while working on my car i laid down on it and somehow when i pulled it out of my pocket the screen was flashing white and colors up and down it. If i smacked it hard enough i could see the clock and access the phone, but it's basically done for. I went out and bought an s7 active to replace it (although i had first had the s7 and lifeproof case, but later changed my mind). My question is, does this sound like a digitizer/lcd issue or is it farther back in the phone? The phone is functional when the screen "cooperates" although 1/3 of the screen still flickers even when it "works". But i can touch icons, input my pin, etc. So what do you think it needs and can you point me to parts if so? And is it easy to disassemble? I'd like to repair it and keep it as a spare, sell it or give it to a family member.

Dissasebly aint to bad. S6s re prone to minute amounts of moisture dammage check all the flex cables and clean with a qtip and 1 single drop of alcohol. Then folow up with 1 single drop of wd 40 for continued protection. 1 drop of wd for whole job. Its woth a shot i bout mine with loads of hardware issues on a hopful hunch and this fixed mine. There was noticable corrosion on the usb flex.

I was reading that some claim even the sweat in ure pocket.
I am a mechanic and if mines in my pocket for any mmount of time i notice sweat on it i try to keep it out. The glass back must be removed with a hetgun no pussyfootin with a hair dryer. I broke my back glass. But im in a case so i dont see it. Plus u can buy new ones cheap. So dont frek if u do break it. Most people do
I have a crack in my screen now. The only thing keeping me sane is that even though it goes across the whole display, I can barely see it. I only notice when the display is white. With that being said, should I put a protective film over top the display to prevent the crack from spreading. I'm thinking about like an invisible shield or Zagg. Would be cool if it hides the crack but not holding my breath on that one.

Defo stick one one.
I got a crack in mine, claiming off insurance tho' for a new scree.
Stuff paying £290 for a new screen, just gotta pay my excess/deductable, which is £25.00 and voila...nice brand new screen.
Matt
I wonder how a windshield repair kit would work on a phone screen...

Long time user, but it's been a while since I've posted and I am embarrassed to post this.
I walked away from Samsung after my S5 Active (prev. owned an S4 Active and the S2 Skyrocket) had performance issues, largely due to bloatware and an inability to unlock the bootloader and ROM the device. In it's place, I went with the LG V10 which ended up being a huge mistake in it's own way, including the bootloop of death, a horrible replacement experience, a faulty battery, no upgrade to 7.0, etc.
However, I decided to go back to Samsung and well, why not go big? I got the S9+ and I have to say it is a fantastic phone. It's bright, it's beautiful, it's fast, the camera is great, and aside from this latest screen touch issue that I don't think I have, the phone is wonderful.
But about that screen.....
Every smartphone I've ever had has had an Otterbox on it. They have always protected my phone from damage in so many instances where I thought this was truly the time the screen would go. I've left phones on roof of my car, dropped them down stairs, out my pocket onto the sidewalk, you name it. I have never shattered a screen. Until the other day....
I was in my bathroom, leaning over and holding my phone while I read the news. It was maybe 12" off the tile floor and it slipped out of my hands and landed squarely face down. There were no obstructions on the floor that the screen could've hit and the case comes up beyond the screen at the tops. bottom, and corners. Essentially, there should be no way for the screen itself to come in contact with the floor, nor do I believe it did.
But when I picked it up, there it was , cracked and it's only gotten a little worse. I have insurance on the phone with Asurion, but damn it's expensive. I can't find any replacement screens (just the glass) online yet to try and do it myself, and I'm feeling like an idiot cracking a phone screen that soon after buying the thing but on the other hand, I've never cracked one and am a little bit surprised it happened in the first place.
Maybe it's the curved screen that makes it more delicate and susceptible to impact damage. Maybe the case just doesn't do a good job protecting the phone and absorbing impact energy instead of passing it straight through to the device but wow.
Be careful with these phones.
Wow.. I worked a cell repair store and trust me. You are better off paying the deductible to Asurion. Even better! Next time get your phone at Bestbuy they offer an insurance for $7.99 for physical damage only and the deductible is the same but in the long run you might get a brand new phone instead of a refurbished one from asurion.
So you had a case, but what about tempered glass protector? To me, thats a must!
---------- Post added at 01:35 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:33 PM ----------
also looks like there's 2 apparent spiderweb cracks which seem to be where it hit - pretty weird if it fact didn't hit anything except the flat floor.
I didn't have the glass protector.
But really is it that delicate? And yes, it hit nothing but the floor, god's honest truth. Straight down, onto the case.
Picture yourself sitting in the john, you're leaning over, elbows on your knees, legs apart, holding your phone below your knees reading it. That's how far it fell to the floor which for me, was about 12". Granted, bigger people have different sized legs but I'm 5'8" and that's about how far it fell.

Given how new the phone is, what are the chances that I'll get a new one vs a refurbished one?

Personally I assume any glass screen on a phone is fragile - I always use tempered glass - I've cracked many of them from drops, but they've done the job of protecting my screen! Especially for an expensive phone like the S9/S9+
This is one really delicate screen. I keep the phone in my Jean's pocket and during the regular use of getting it out of my pocket and placing it back in I can see a line has come up right in the middle of the screen. It is barely visible when the screen is turned on but it is clearly visible when i turn off the screen. I am disappointed reahrding the durability. Screen is gorgeous and the best money can buy but it is delicate. I am desperately waiting for my tempered glass protector. So be careful guys.
Got a small bathroom rug by the toilet, cushions the drop
Sorry to hear in all seriousness tho!
probably just got unlucky. It hit the perfect way to crack. I wouldn't assume screens are any weaker on the s9, not yet anyway. I have had horrible luck with my s9+, went through 2 whitestone TGSP and those are $45 each lol. It did save my screen both times, no scratches. I have another on order. That'll be $150 in screen protectors in a little over a week.
Smashed my s9+ screen on Friday [emoji24]
UPS collected yesterday for repair under Samsung Care.

Never buy tempered glass from the store. They're overpriced and the same durability as the stuff you'll find on ebay or amazon.
Scratch the Otterbox of the case list.

How long you out of a phone? Do they offer an advanced replacement?
I had my Droid 2 fly out of my pocket in a roller coaster at Six Flags. I've never broken the screen though. What a pain on something so new. Sorry ?
The S8/+ where the worst rated phones Squaretrade had ever tested. The S9/+ didn't score any better really. I had an Otterbox on my S8+. It was crappy. No front protection and the case cracked are the bottom. My wife still uses hers, but I have am iBlasson with front plastic now and prefer it.
Another option is to go to a place like Ubreakifix for same day repair. Glass and LCD replacement is $229.99. Back glass replacement is $59.99. They are a Samsung Authorized service provider. I had my glass and lcd replaced free under warranty due to touchscreen dead spots.

But OP mentioned that he has insurance through Asurion so the repair should only cost $19 at ubreakifix, but im not positive
A friend of mine has the S8+ and went through glass screen protectors one after the other. He finally switched to some paint-on screen protection. Good for scratches and maybe light impacts, but it would offer no structural support in the scenario the OP posted.
I hate the curved screen. Really I do. I'm disappointed that I can't find a case with high sides that would offer some protection for when there is screen impact and it's not a perfectly flat surface like the OP had. I have always protected my phones and they look like new after years of use. I fear this will not be the case with the S9+.
On mine I have the rub on screen that Sprint offers and I have dropped mine many times. I used the otterbox defender and now the "next lifeproof" not even a scratch. My buddy has s9+ also. When left the store he scratched his screen (no case or protection he is cheap) pulling it from the pocket. Ouch. So I guess some just are shut I dunno.
I've had my s9+ since before launch, and 0 issues. I'm pretty easy on phones, though. I think I've only dropped 1 phone in my life and it was less than a foot onto a desk.
