I tried everything, and still when I get into fastboot/bootloader and when I type fastboot devices, nothing. Can somebody please give me more solutions to this lol, I want to install that damn cyanogenmod.
When I want to install google usb drivers or naked drivers it says error 10 the device cannot start.
Make sure you uninstall the drivers then follow the instructions in the adb and fastboot thread via my signature. It too relies on the naked driver. Not sure if you followed the same steps or not but try to start fresh.

Well, I for one, never had any issues with 8 or 8.1 when it comes to flashing / setting up the drivers.
Guys facing all this might have a broken install or drivers of their previous devices conflicting..
In any case, starting afresh does the trick!

I do the same with Windows. Connect nexus 5, let windows 8.1 auto detect/install drivers, install sdk and done! However I have to admit, I've ran into couple of issues at times.
But no doubt, setting it up the environment on Linux is smooth without too many hassles. I ran into some root privileges issue once which was fairly easy to fix.

Installing the SDK is massive overkill IMHO.
15 second installer + naked USB driver gives the best compatibility and minimal waste on windows.
On Linux, drop the fastboot and adb binary in /usr/bin or use the linux / Mac installer in my adb thread. A

True that. I use the Android emulator and Eclipse for some development. So, I have them installed right from the start.
But for a person who just needs fastboot to root his/her device, you're absolutely right. :good:

I have searched for this and recieved some many posts I was over whelmed.
My problem is this, I have downloaded DoomLord v4 and have followed the instructions for what to do on my phone. So my USB debugging is enabled, Unknown Sources is enabled and even changed the screen timeout to 10 minutes. But when the process starts it gets to daemon started successfully and then just sits there forever.
Has anyone else experianced this and if so did you resolove it?
I have android version 2.3.5.
No I used it and didn't have that problem but I'm sure someone will have a answer for you

Main problems I've seen; don't have the proper adb drivers installed and trying to execute the "runme.bat" file as "Administrator"; alot of problems, at least on Win7. I would verify drivers, then to be safe, just drop to a DOS prompt, go to the directory and run the "runme.bat" file.
Yea I just realized I didn't get the USB drivers to install correctly. When I connect my phone and point it to the folder the drivers are it doesn't find any available drivers. Not sure I am trying this on my XP computer are work. Going to go home in a hour or so and try it there as well maybe it will work better on my win 7 64 bit system

ok well just tried to install the usb drivers on my windows 7 64bit system and it says the samething as the xp system. That it didn't find any drivers available. Oh well guess I am just not ment to root my phone, glad I am doing it just for fun and not cause I am having any problems with it lol
Well I didn't stop researching after all cause well I dont like giving up on something like that.
I was able to take the drivers from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1340526
and then followed this thread to root my Skyrocket http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1321582
now I think I need to get a rom manager to install cwm so I can start using custom roms?
If I decide not to use custom roms can I use titanium back up pro to freeze apps in order to extended my battery life?
Can I do something to change my boot animation?
What exactly can I do with root now to customize my phone even more with out installing a custom rom?
oh also do I need to keep unknown sourses and usb debugging checked now that I am rooted?

Yes keep it on it will be helpful in future!!!!

Just wiped all data off my phone before flashing CyanogenMod 10. Problem is, I need to reboot into the bootloader so I can flash the boot.img since I have the 2.20 AT&T update. But I can't get my computer to recognize my phone in fastboot mode. I'm using Windows 8 64-bit, and I've tried multiple threads with Win8 64-bit drivers, and installing the drivers with signature verification disabled. I'm at a loss, hope you guys can help, since I can't turn my phone on until this gets fixed.

Whoa whoa whoa. Downgrading the hboot is POSSIBLE. Holy frick, if this is true, I might hate myself for not discovering this sooner...
EDIT: The toolkit requires running Linux (which I don't have and am not real comfortable with) and involves hard bricking the phone...think I'll keep my hboot for now. Needing to flash the boot.img is kind of annoying, but it wasn't a big deal until I could no longer get fastboot to work...

Yeah, like I said, HTC Sync didn't solve my problem for whatever reason.
However, it occurred to me that I've never had to worry about Android drivers with Mac and Linux, and I was able to use fastboot without a problem from a Ubuntu LiveCD, without resorting to downgrading my hboot. Granted it meant downloading and configuring the android tools in Ubuntu, and I wouldn't want to do it on a regular basis, but it's okay as a workaround, and this whole fiasco has me seriously considering switching my laptop to Ubuntu from Win8 (I could dual-boot), but I don't really have enough disk space for 2 operating systems).

Ok I had same issue when I was beta testing win 8 in Summer. You need to go to device manager and click the show hidden devices on menu bar. It will show you all devices not plugged in. Next find andriod , it should be greyed out. If you don't find install win 64 bit driver. It will still not recongize android when plugged in so click greyed out android and choose Manuel update. Then click browse for driver and go into win 64 drivers and manually choose. There is a lot of utube and other tutorials if you Google manuel install HTC drivers for win 8. Hope this helps ya. Let me know how it worked out

I was able to get mine working with the combo of
1. uninstalling any HTC sync or sync manager and the HTC BMP USB Driver. Basically anything HTC.
2. Install HTC sync. Not sync manager. Go to the HTC support page and you'll see both listed. If you go to the specific phone support page it might not be there. (One S doesn't have the sync program, just sync manager iirc.)
3. Download PDAnet. When installing, It'll give a warning that you already have drivers installed and ask if you want to fix them or leave as is. I chose it to fix and it went though its process and I had working drivers after that.
I think this was already suggested before. I going back and giving thanks wherever due after this post. (On the mobile app right now)
Other easy way if you're using a One S is to download Hasoon2000's All-On-One Toolkit. He's updated the drivers for windows 8. I haven't tried it yet as mine are working so haven't had the need. I would assume his tool for any of the other phones he supports would have the updated drivers too.
Just got my nexus 5. Went to get my laptop only to find out its been stolen. Is there a way to root using the command terminal in say jumpy apps?

Afaik, you'll need a pc to unlock the bootloader. From there I suppose you could do the rest on the phone using dd commands to get a recovery on. But since you'll need the pc anyway you might as well use it to get the recovery on.

You could always try a library. All you need to do is download fastboot, run "fastboot oem unlock" and reboot. You can then do the rest on your phone. It shouldn't take you longer than 10 minutes.
ADB and Fastboot go hand and hand from my knowledge. Even a slim non full version SDK still has ADB .

What do you mean "hand in hand"?
They're both command line platform tools offered in the android SDK but thats about all they have in common. One is a minimalistic "linux shell" for interacting with the android kernel (adb) where as the other is a tool that manages the fastboot functions of the bootloader.

You will need to have USB drivers, of course to use fastboot, which are often referred to as "adb drivers" but not the adb binary/exe itself

Last Internet cafe closes here and pale think rooting will damage their LT! The ones I asked.
I only posted this out of desperation. Library computers are locked up so can't accept drivers.
I've been rooting since the early days and I did a Samsung g2 without a computer. The boot was open. I just put the su, etc on the card and rooted it. As it was pre owned not sure if it had been unlocked or was like that from new. I've come from the nexus 4 mainly because of 4g.

I've had no end of trouble when I rooted my first two devices using toolkits. It took days and tons of driver anguish before I succeeded. Then I discovered adb and fastboot and it became a quick few minutes thing to do. I really don't know why they make these toolkits. My experience with them is that they made things harder, not easier, for a newbie. The memories of the toolkit problems is what got me anxious when I had to start rooting my wife's phone.
Anyway a great thank you to all who took the time to help.

But yes that was my point - although I had to put the word "alone" at the end of my sentence because you could boot into recovery and adb push the su binaries

Chainfire released CF-Auto-Root ,CF-Auto-Root can be thought of as “root for rooting beginners,” as well as those who want to stay as close to stock as possible while enjoying the sweet, root-enabled goods.
CF-Auto-Root for the Nexus 5 supports Windows, Linux, and Mac, and turns the whole rooting process into an incredibly simple process. All you have to do is download the zip from the thread and extract it, boot your device into fastboot (power off, then VolUp+VolDown+Power), connect via USB, run a command on your host computer, and follow the on-screen prompts on your device and PC.:good:
