Hi All
Im thinking of buying a Gear fit to help me with my power walking and exersize to match my S5, but I have some questions:
All the reviews Ive read have all been from the "Fit" release day, but I know both the Gear Manager and watch itself has had a few updates, How do you find it?.
How is the watch strap, does it hold together ok as Ive read that the clasp can come away from the strap.
What is the accuracy like for the Pedometer, can I exersize accurately with it.
Am I right in thinking I dont need the S5 with me.. I can download the data into SHealth when I get home.
Many Thanks

Hello everybody,
can somebody kindly answer the following questions?
1. I read there is no auto brightness setting on the S2. does the ambient light sensor adjust the brightness of the screen based on the level we choose? and if so, how?
2. has anybody used the watch in a swimming pool or beach? on the reviews I read they always talk about taking a shower or immerging it in a tank, which is not very useful in my opinion. how about swimming with it?
3. I read on this forum the setting for returning to previous screen after waking is gone. Are you serious? this was an incredible useful feature, at lest for me (I have the Gear S) when I work out at the gym.
4. is it possible to street navigate with something else than Here? I ride 2 wheels very often and it would be very useful. When I tried Here on the S it just gave me the walking option, which is way to slow to use while driving. I read the here on the 2 has also the option to drive, but how good is it? anybody tried?
thank you all in advance. I like my gear S a lot, but the screen just died and the warranty is expired, so I am torn between fixing it or just buy the S2, also because I am planning to use it with a non Samsung phone, eventually. I like it a lot, but I keep reading things that are putting me off.

- No auto brightness, but yes it does have ambient light sensor. Under a bright environment, your screen will be brighter. In dark environment, it will not dim your screen.
2. has anybody used the watch in a swimming pool or beach? on the reviews I read they always talk about taking a shower or immerging it in a tank, which is not very useful in my opinion. how about swimming with it?
- Hell no. It is water resistant but not built for swimming or any sort of water activity.

- There is no setting for it yet. After screen timeout, it defaults back to watch face. However, if you start an app like S-Health, it will return back to that app screen after timeout, so you don't have to worry about switching the screen when you work out.

- Here is the only option. I never tried the drive option sorry but it is available. Edit: there is a paid app available for google maps but I haven't tried it.
The watch is water resistant deep 1m50 never even tried to scared to break it
I recently went on holiday to Sri Lanka, swam everyday in pool> 1.5m and also in the sea. Also shower with it everyday.
Evening all.
I'm returning my Frontier due to a build quality issue with the bezel. Can anyone else confirm if there's is like the one in the below video I just threw together. I ordered a S3 Classic to compare, as I didn't think it felt correct and sure enough the classic feels really solid, has a distinct click feeling when it rotates which my frontier doesn't. Would love to know what yours is like? You'll need the sound up.

Quite liking the look of the classic and might keep it instead.
Yep, mine is like that. Doesn't bother me at all. It's just a little play i the bezel.
If it gets worse, then it may become an issue, but as it is, it's not an issue at all. Still works, still has solid clicks as it's rotated.
Thanks for the feedback I'm not able to live with it. Keeps bugging me. Even more that the classic I ordered doesn't do it.
Yep, mine is like that. I even wrote a post a few days ago here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=70033732&postcount=12
From what I understand and asked around, most of them are like that but of course, there are some exceptions, with a Frontier that behaves like your Classic.
Because there are so many, basically I don't have any guarantee that the next will be ok (or if it is ok at first, that it will stay ok -- mine was silent like your Classic and in 4 days became a Frontier, so to speak ...) and I rather avoid all the hassle returning the watch for now and wait to see if a visit in service is really needed.
I asked in a Samsung service and they said that if is a problem with the bezel, they change the entire body (minus the bottom part) because the bezel itself is not replaceable.

Thanks for the info. I've already returned the Frontier so will see what Samsung say about it. Still undecided about the classic but there is no stock of the frontier so I wouldn't get a replacement until Mid Jan from what I've been told, so thought I'd give the classic a try on the 14 day return option. I do like the feel and look but still think I preferred the Frontier as I'm using it mostly as a sports watch.
I returned my Classic because of as screen issue, and the new Classic's bezel also has a little play on and clicks, just like the old one (or maybe a bit more). Although it is annoying, probably no point in returning in hope for getting one which fits perfectly. Let's see how they work over the time.
I wanted to swap it for a silent one but then decided to stop bothering. It's my watch now until a smaller Fenix 4 comes out or a better Gear...
I got the new Samsung Gear Sport and apparently it doesn't realize I'm wearing it due to the bone in my wrist or the tattoo I have. Is there any app that I can side-load or find in the gear store that will trick it into thinking its being worn?
That's... Odd. There's a chance that your watch is defective, it might be good to see if you can exchange it or have it sent out for warranty if you try it on your other wrist and it still doesn't work. What if you move it a little higher up? Is there any situation you've been able to get it to think it's being worn?
Lastly, what symptoms is your watch experiencing that makes you think it doesn't realize it's worn? I can use my watch when holding it in my hand.
It works on the other wrist just fine, it works just fine further up the arm....it's the tattoo. The only thing that is bothering me is no always on display because it thinks I'm not wearing it. It won't read my blood pressure which I could care less about.
My Zen watch 2 would still show always on display when it wasn't on my wrist... Why don't companies actually quality control test stuff properly anymore? =(
So, I found an article about someone getting theirs to work with a reflective material. Bent washer + $5 chrome skull sticker, and electrical tape = win.
Watch always thinks it is being worn. Doesn't read heart rate but don't need that.
All - My S3 got wet and went into a bootloop. I sent it to Samsung and they sent it back without fixing it claiming that it was too expensive to fix. It is up to me to fix it myself.
I managed to resolve the bootloop problem by opening it up and letting it air out. (see other thread for details)
Question - the only problem I have now is that when I rotate the bezel, it doesn't register anything on the watch. The connector/ sensor seems to be dead.
Anyone know how I could fix this? Do I need a new entire display unit (Samsung Gear S3 frontier (SM-R760) Display unit complete grey GH97-19658A) or is there something else I should try? A part to replace?
I did take off the bezel and I cleaned it. (did it very carefully as there are pieces that can be easily lost)
The watch works well and I can do almost everything without the bezel working but would like to get it working to 100%.
Thanks for any ideas people may have.
Same problem
same problem on my Galaxy Watch. Any update on how to fix?

I took mine apart again hoping I could get the bezel to work but no luck.
I assume the sensor connects to the top part of the watch. There are two connecters that attach to the main part of the watch, a big one and a much smaller one. Perhaps the smaller connector is the problem.
Not a super big deal but I would love to get my watch working at 100%.
Any Samsung techs with an idea?
I figured out that my problem was just that I was wearing a watch band with a magnetic clasp. If the magnet was too close to the watch, but bezel wouldn't work. If I switched bands everything was fine.

You sneaky son of a gun. That worked.
For what it's worth: the bezel sensor is a set of 3 hall effect sensors. If you take the bezel ring off the watch (various youtube guides show how) and look at the underside, you'll see 24 indents and 8 of these (1 in 3) will be a different color. If your watch isn't registering anything, these magnetic spots may be de-magnetized.
https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Samsung+Galaxy+Watch+Teardown/117519 <-- explained here (see step 15 ... and if you look closely at the bottom right of step 8 first picture you can see the 3 hall effect sensors in place)
On my watch it sometimes didn't register the bezel turning. I thought it might just be gummed up. I eventually noticed that it would miss 3 "clicks" in every rotation.
Now I finally understand why: one (only one of eight magnets) has become de-magnetized and the hall effect sensor won't read it as it passes across.
Now I just need to work out how to re-magnetize the one spot.

Haven't been to xda in awhile.
I removed the panel and glass off my gear fit 2 because it shorted out when I washed my hands. (my fault, I cracked it trying to replace the bands). Ripped it off and nothing on the connector.
For the curious: It boots and tracks my steps and thankfully I already had cont. heart rate on. The battery life is insanely good and better than I expected. I haven't had a chance to see if it's accurate, but the manager app said 5 days after a charge.
Anyway.. I ordered a gear s2 classic as a replacement. BUT, I want to play with this. Can anyone tell me if I need to use the screen in order to root and install some bins or BusyBox? I'm hoping I can do it all from sdb but I haven't been keeping up with things here and pulling a noob.
