I'm from the UK so please forgive the ignorance, what's with verizon screwing up phones for its customers?
I've just seen the Z3v and many are saying it looks like a Z2.... No it doesn't, it looks like a mash up of left over bits of all z series so far.
Is it verizon who request this or sony? Does verizon do this kind of thing regularly on flagships or is it less common than that?
Again, sorry for the ignorance, it's just if, say O2 over here put out that, they wouldn't sell many with other networks putting out a better product.

Verizon/carriers generally get their way with what they want on the phone(i.e. logo/branding on outside of device, more bloatware/carrier apps on device). Verizon generally has the best coverage/service (and they use CDMA, so you can only use their phones), so people HAVE to stick with them for multiple reasons
Verizon has a history of removing useful features (Moto Razr days, they would cripple the bluetooth to prevent file transfer so that you have to pay Verizon's data network to get the file, Lumia Icon had microSD support removed)
You can't say that the Z3v was crippled (it does have a Verizon-exclusive Qi charging), but everything else besides CPU/RAM is dated from Z2 (camera lens is from Z2, body from Z2, etc), magentic charging ports removed(though the Qi is an upgrade IMO)
There was a rumor earlier this year of Z2 going on Verizon (eventually, only the Z2 tablet went on Verizon). Perhaps that Z2 was delayed for some reason, and eventually morphed to this Z3v
Thanks, explains it a bit. Looks very fat in comparison.

it does have Qi charging (the Qi coil would take up some space). thinnest qi coil that i can find is 0.5mm

Z3v 148.5 x 73.4 x 8.9 mm @ 170.6g
Z2 146.8 x 73.3 x 8.2 mm @ 163g
Z3 146 x 72 x 7.3 mm @ 152g

Wow the Z3v is a massive downgrade. It's bigger, fatter and heavier. Plus the materials look like a cross between Z1 and Z2.
I would be offended if Verizon tried to sell me this phone and told me it's a Z3. It's not a Z3, it's a Z2.5.
Plus I'm sure it will have their bloatware running on this.

Hi. Using my Motorola Defy for 4 years now, but its just slow, often rebooting, several apps aren't working correct on it... So searching for a new one with this functions:
Waterproof
Changable Battery
4 - 4.5 inch Display, not bigger
Android
Root and custom roms available
I guess I can find this in the Sony Xpera ZR but as its not available in germany I have to bought it from abroad which wo would be ~280€ ~ $380. Thats a lot for a one year old phone, compared with the price I paid for the Defy. Are there any other phones which have all the things I need?
Nobody can help me with this?

I dont believe your going to find a wateproof phone. There are water resistant phones, but water proof cases may be another option. Pretty much the high end phones like the s5, s4, m8, and many others have that option. Check them out.
I think xperia v is the one you looking for
here's the specs and regards of water proof and removable battery I'm pretty sure about the feature

how does it stand copare to the HTC ONE M8 ??
M8 Advantages
More durable, excels in drop tests as screen is well protected with big bezels and speaker grills
HTC gives free glass replacement in first 6 months, if you damage/drop it.
Better Speakers and aux out audio.
HTC Sense is generally considered the best looking Android UI
Z3 Adavantages:
Bigger, brighter, more power efficient screeen
Better battery life
Much better camera
Waterproof
Lighter, Thinner
Close to stock android UI
Overall though the Z3 is more "well-rounded", but just be sure to be careful with it as its comparatively much more fragile. I would say go for the Z3. This based on my experience as we have an M8, Z3, GS4 and an iPhone 6 in our family.
Haha - I came to this forum to ask exactly this question! I have an S4 and am thinking about a Z3. I have always ended up rooting and using a custom ROM on my androids - is it easy to unlock the bootloader and root the Z3? (If nothing else, so that I can do nandroid, Titanium, Greenify and BetterBatteryStats).
Are there stable Lollipop ROMs that don't hurt battery life?
Is there no Samsung TouchWiz style bloatware?
Is the battery life as good as they say?
Do most people use magnetic charging to avoid opening the microUSB port?
If it is a bit fragile, do people use slim cases rather than risk using it "naked"?
Thanks in advance - apologies for not trawling through all the other subforums for answers.
-Battery life really is great, I don't need to compromise with autosync/location, I even leave them on, this the first phone that lets me be more carfree and still gives a lot of hours
-As for bloat, no there is not much, but then again the galaxy is the heights of bloatware lol.
-As for fragility, yes get a case. I use glass protectors on both sides but am still careful as I don't use a case. Remember glass protector wont save you from corner impacts.
-As for unlocking it should be pretty easy, I can't however as mine is a carrier version phone.
-Magnetic charging depends on people, I just use USB but many also use the mag port.

Thanks for the comprehensive reply. I didn't experience galaxy bloat - the day I got it, I unlocked, rooted, backed up (just in case) and had it CyanogenModded
Oh, and I find that the devs at work have a Z3 for testing, so I will try and get a trial on Monday.
The difference between Z2 and Z3 is slim... the Z3 is slightly smaller, has a bit better screen while the Z2 has basically same hardware, bigger battery (yeah it differs) and is quite cheaper. So the Z2 is the better deal.
just a thread.. talk here.
its really annoying that Iphone users can do more mods than us. I mean LG G FLEX 2 is the worlds best phone, due to the curve but why they gonna ruin it with this stupid decision.
also i want to share something. Look at this email from lg i got today

i just paid $700 for my lg g flex 2, and i heard you lot locked its bootloader on the new update! is there any plans to unlock it because i spent a lot of money on this phone and i dont want to sell it because i will make a loss because now it will get used,
but do you guys have any plans for unlocking its boatloader?!?
pls answer, otherwise i will leave lg and never come back,
now i regret buying this phone because samsung are so much more convenient.
LG:
Hello,
Currently, only LG G4 (H815) for the European open market supports unlocking the bootloader.
We have no plans to support bootloader unlock in previously launched models including LG G Flex 2.
We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause.
Thank you.

Lucky I decided to pass on the flex 2 since I went through the same crap with the original first G Flex. And damn $700 that's insane, here in the US well for sprint it was going for $504 which would have been worth it for me if the bootloader wasn't locked.
To think I was planning to use my upgrade on this but lucky I bought the nexus 6 brand new sealed for $500 and still have my upgrade waiting for the next beastly phone later this year.
Edit: also hope this is a lesson learned for you guys that it's always best to wait and do some research before getting this phone because the bootloader been locked since released day so it's basically your fault for not doing any research before purchasing.

You are right but lg left the door open for open bootloader , irrelevant that they chose only eu lg g4 afterwards
Lg have made terrible mistakes this year...
Also qualcomm made mistake ,was not ready to build such a cpu.
I think Qualcomm made the worse mistake this year. This processor isn't ready. The exynos runs so much better.

Guys,
I have in my family both Galaxy S6 and Flex2.
Performance wise, benchmarks aside (there, better results are clearly fetched by s6), there is no clear winner among the two. I consider that there is less lag and stutters in Flex2 running Android 5.1.1 as compared to S6 that runs debloated and customised ROM and new kernel. I also consider that there is a lot less heat while Flex2 runs high speed. I am not a gammer so I cannot asses gaming experience.
End of the day give slight preference to S6 for brighter screen and nicer body. Nonetheless, the curved shape in Flex2 is really nice. Same applies to the bigger size of the screen and higher capacity of the battery in Flex2 which in my country is also much cheaper.

If i am honest, The lg g flex 2 is the best phone ive owned, even better than the Note 4, which had more ram (mines 32gb/2 ram).
It sucks not too have root and have rivals like s6 however, the design and the curve on the phone looks so awesome that everyone admires this phone, when i pull it out. Also, on my note 4 i got bored really quickly but this i never get bored looking at that beautiful curve, and also it look awesome when viewing content.
I hope next year we get bootloader unlocked, and we get a ton of development!
one request from me to lg, would be not to add a 2k display as they look exactly the same, and waste battery life. Also i hope the display gets a bit more vivid colors, as it would look stunning.
once u get used to a curve phone, other devices can never compete.

You supported LG's boneheaded decision to lock the bootloader when you bought a Flex 2. Next time vote for bootloader freedom with your dollars.
I agree... Do not buy locked phones and they will sell only unlocked ones.

Undecided yet between Moto X Play or OP2..
hf spending 3 hours to charge your OP2 fully up. Yay for quick charge.
aaaaaaaa
no i don't
i have problem with this.
i just ditched my Moto X 2014 and going straight to the Moto X Play!
ordered it yesterday in .de, so hoping to receive it in +- 10 days from now!
Confused..Not really sure.. But I think it's a nice phone, also affordable.
I was a happy owner of a nexus 4, but the digitizer died due to moisture (and bad QC, as no phone should die by a sweaty pocket)
I'm not going through the hassle of aftermarket parts and pricey replacements, so the X play is really looking good. (anything does compared to my current xperia arc s...)
Just have to make out some things about sensors and active notifications, as I hope the "x" naming means more than a marketing move and actually follows in the 2014 model's footsteps...
just received mine yesterday .. it doesn't come with a earphone ?
That's common now.
Some don't even come with a charger.
I'm glad earphones aren't included anymore. So many were rubbish and you would never use them.

Got it two days ago in Canada, loving it. Coming from a Note 3 to this there is not much change, I do miss the 32Gb internal storage, On the other hand the battery on the x play is terrific, the front speakers are not stereo only the bottom one so I hope we get some customization to make it stereo. Otherwise loving the stock android experience. I always used aosp anyway on my note.
Err theres only one speaker afaik so no way of making it stereo.

I bought it two weeks ago, and I got earphone with integrated FM antenna. I live in France, maybe there is a difference.
considering it very much. Just still doubting about the size. I love the looks of the x Style however in my opinion the x play is better so I'm hoping they are going to make an x style back cover to fit in the moto x play (really don't like the pattern on the x play's back).
I was still waiting on the new nexus to be presented and the X play beats it in every field (that is important to me), simply the best user phone out there at the moment.

I am trading in my Nexus 5 for a Moto X Play, hoping I enjoy it.
Hey guys, my phone contract will be coming to an end in the next few months, and wondering what I should get next, at the moment I have a nexus 6p, but I'm thinking of moving away from the line of Google phone. I really like the xz premium, everything on paper seems to indicate a great phone (even better than the new Xperia phones). I have been comparing Xperia phones and always seem to go back to xz premium, what do you guys think? Should I get this phone or one of the new ones like the xa1?

I haven't used the Note 8 or the new Pixels, but I like the XZ Premium. I wish it was fully compatible with T-Mobile, but that probably doesn't matter in Australia. I compared to my friend's Note 8, and I like the XZP better. Note 8 is nice, but it's awkwardly shaped and the silly bezel-less design makes hard to hold without touching the screen. I don't know how much Samsung improved their UI, but I was pretty sick of my S7 by the time I switched back to Sony. Plus, the price just dropped on the XZP if that matters to you. The 4K screen is really nice, but honestly not a feature that gets used much. My only gripe is that the phone is just a little too tall to fit nicely in my pocket, but that applies to most phones these days. It fits, it's just enormous.

Thanks for your input I really like the xzp as well, I had a play with one at Vodafone and it seemed good, have you noticed any stuttering with the UI, the one I was playing with had it (could of just been the outdated firmware on it).
I looked at the specs of the note 8 and the camera is pretty pathetic, Samsung must use alot of post processing to enhance the image quality, I haven't played with one yet, but since my S3 I have wanted to stay away from Samsung and the Exynos chipsets

Hmm must of just been the display phone then.. has anyone got a xa1 ultra, or knows anyone with one,? Seems like an ok phone, poor on the benchmarks though
I would get the google pixel xl 2, if you can live without a headphone jack and microSD Card slot. It's going to have a much bigger dev community, much more support for accessories, with relatively the same or better hardware/specs, and much smaller bezels. Also, I wouldn't get an XA1 Ultra. It's just not as good as the xz premium. I already get frustrated with sony's poor ui choices at times, I couldn't imagine having a phone that's intentionally half-assed from sony.
The Xperia XZ Premium is the best Phone ever.
