Nexus 5 bricked after switching off - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all!
I switched off my phone to charge the battery and after switch it back on, it started to shut down an freeze. Then things went worse and it couldn't even start to the home screen so I decided to restore it to it defaults.
When I tried to flash the files Google provide in their page it says something like "write failure" after trying to write bootloader and boot files. I've tried with the OEM cable and in different PC's with same result.
My next try was to flash it with the LG tool which failed at the beginning because of a blank model. I got the build.prop file form another Nexus 5 and then I could start flashing, but it always fails at 80% saying something like bad response...
Any thoughts?

Emmc (flash chip) gone bad. Buy new motherboard or claim your warranty or RMA your device.

Hi bitdomo, thanks for your response!
I think my warranty is avoided since the terminal was rooted :_(
Any suggestion about where to buy the motherboard? Is it difficult to replace?
Thanks!

if you have bought the device from Google Play Store, then you can RMA it since Google doesn't care whether it's rooted or not. If it's LG you're dealing with, then you might be in trouble.
Replacing the motherboard is fairly easy and there are tons of tutorials showing the same. However, if you're going to pay for it, might as well get it done from LG since you get a warranty on the same!

I bought it from Google Play Store in Spain, and after contacting them they tried to send me to LG because it's rooted...
I'll give it a try with Google Ireland because it's where I'm currently living.
Thanks!

Well, not trying to be negative but warranty is only valid in the country you bought in.
Let's hope for the best!

Lg cant find out your phone is rooted because your phone does not boot up. Also LG use a service called RCT (root checking tool), which is installed on every LG phone and can be accessed in hidden menu, to determine your phone is rooted or not, but this app service is not present on nexus 5 since lg just gave the hardware and google the software. The other way how LG check root is that they boot the phone into download moda and if the phone is rooted it will show a red rooted text on the screen, otherwise it showes a white not rooted text. This feature also missing from nexus 5's download mode.
As I read you bought it from google. Since you bought it from them your warranty only valid in that country where you bought it. You have to go back to that country, send it back to google that your phone stopped working, and that is all. If you cant go back to that country then you have to take it to LG they will replace the faulty motherboard if you pay them to do that or you can order d821 motherboard from uk for almost the price of a new nexus 5 http://www.mobiledeviceworkshop.co....ard-main-board-replacement-service-2167-p.asp

[Q] HELP! I just completely bricked my new SGS I9000 phone.

Sadly, I just bricked my phone.
I tried to do a flash update (forum_xda-developers_com/showthread_php?t=785201; replace _ with .), and it just went off and died.
3 button combo not working.
ADB, Odin and Keis not working.
I've been searching the web for 5 hours for a solution, with no luck...
I just had it for one lousy day!
I bought it abroad and now I have no idea what to do next.
Any ideas?

As mean as that sounded its about the only thing left for him to do, and is no reason for you to wish something like that an someone.
This is a community, lets keep it a peaceful one.
Why buy a new one?
I sent it to Samsung in Germany yesterday. Hopefully hey will fix it soon.
I did a similar thing the other week. i called samsug and told them exactly what happened. some french guy asked me what i meant by bricked and i told him i messed upp while installing a cutsom rom. he then asked me what company i was a part of "what kind of customer were you dealing with on the phone?"
after fighting with them for a while I called my even dumber carrier. i fought with them that it was in no way a bettery problem for about ten minutes where i gave up and told them i was following the "take out the battery" instructions. he then told me to go to a bell store and try one of thier test bateries,
to make a long story short they said as long as there is no water or physical damage they will fix the phone for free. apperently in canada they dont have a hacked phone problem

[Q] I cant find anywhere to get my phone fixed can someone help please?

Hi guys,
I have Samsung Galaxy S i9000 I'll cut to the chase I flashed it with ODIN one click for the AT&T Captivate. "Yes I am numpty"
I've looked but I can't find anyone in the UK that repairs bad flashes of this type.
Is it time to bin it and buy a new phone or is there anyone out there that I can pay to get this repaired please?
if you need any further details about the phone please ask.
Kindest regards,
stanneh.
While I dont know where you could get help for that problem...if possible I'm sure someone here at xda could help?
Think of this as a learning experience and be careful of what you put on your phone and be sure to do some prep reading before doing so. While I'm no expert at this stuff, I figured that was the least I could do before rooting my g2 and oc'ing it.
Good luck getting it fixed btw!
A little update for you all.
I gave Samsung UK a call and was straight up with them told them exactly what I had done.
well I did say I had no idea what I was doing but acknowledged that what I have done voids the warranty and offered to pay any fee's to get the phone repaired.
The man on the phone was very kind and said they will repair it under warranty for me and that I have to take it in to a Carphone warehouse store in Cardiff UK to get it repaired.
I will keep you all up to date on how that goes.
Regards,
Stanneh.
Is your phone dead? does it turn back on to the recovery mode or download mode?
Hi,
No its not dead but the boot loader it has now is from another phone.
I flashed it with ODIN One Click my bad but I'm not the only numpty to have done it.
After reading many forum posts there's a few of us who did this and currently there is no way to recover it.
I just took it to the Carphone Warehouse service centre they were unable to restore it there so they have sent it back to Samsung to be repaired.
I imagine it going to cost me and I don't mind paying for my mistake.
Regards,
Stanneh.
Hi again,
Just a quick update!
So I took my phone back to the Carphone Warehouse and they had to send it off as the couldn't correct the issue in house.
I had an email the next evening to say my phone was fixed and ready to be picked up at the store. When I got there they pulled out the same phone Identifiable by markings and it was fixed!! I don't know if they put a new motherboard in there or just managed to flash it back but it took all of two days for them to do it and it was all done for free under warranty.
I have since rooted the phone just fine.
Before I bricked it I had rooted it and used OCLF to format it with ext2 which worked awesome the speed was unbelievable but I hear with the Android 2.3 update they are changing to the ext4 file system anyway I am just going to wait for that now. I just don't want to take any more risks.
For the record the initial bricking of my phone was when I decided to install Voodoo just for the audio features but it never booted after that I think because I had ext2 file system from OCLF?
but that was the start of the problem then I was a numpty and used Odin one click to try and recover the phone and then totally bricked it with the AT&T loop.

[Q] Flickering screen and rebooting on a brand new H950??

Hello
A friend of mine purchased the H950 from qualitycellz on eBay, when he start using it, he noticed that the the phone reboots randomly and screen sometimes flicker.
I've CSE flashed 950PR over the ATT version cause I thought it might be software -related, but the problem continues also on the PR version...
any Ideas?
thanks

I have the EXACT same issue. I got a H950 from qualitycellz, however my device boots randomly, on a very frequent basis actually...I tried flashing 950PR, but the issue is still going...
Actually I have asked it in here a few days ago (http://forum.xda-developers.com/g-f...-rebooting-t3206799/post62922379#post62922379) but still, no luck trying to fix it :crying:

Can you please go a little more in detail on this? What does this mean? Is there any possible fix? Do you mean RAM or internal storage memory? Is it possible that it came from the factory like this?
Thank you
I bought the phone just after the start of its sales. The first day began restarts. After a few days I gave the phone to be repaired. After several days of service of the LG informed me a defective memory and that do not yet have a motherboard exchange is a need to replace the entire phone.
Sorry for my english.

I've contact qualitycellz and they say that I should try fix that with the local LG distributor , and if they cannot provide a fix, I should send the device back to qualitycellz (even with PR version)
so I'm waiting after local holidays to be over and I'll update the progress.
I hope qualitycellz doesn't provide refurbished phones and write that they are new ones...
I've had the same problem with H950 5.01 version (bought from the same e-bay seller).
Flashed it to 950PR and the problem went away for me.
No random reboots, much better battery, doesn't get hot unless I stress it out (used to get hot quite often without any reason)...

How many days did it take? Did they replace your phone for a new one? And is the new one working as expected?
I have been trying with Qualitycellz a refund, but since it has been more than two months that I bought the G Flex 2, they are not accepting returns. I don't know what to do

You should contact LG representative at your country and explain it to them... After all, you do have LG manufacturer warranty...

yes. they say that since H950 isn't the model that sold in Israel (they sell the H955), they don't have any parts for this.
So I contact qualitycellz and they instruct me how to send the device back for a replacement.

[Q] Odd Phone Behavior after flashing H810PR10 (Lost 30GB of memory?)

It would appear that, in my habit of ruining everything, I failed the low effort boot and bricked my new LG G4. Thankfully, I remembered that in this instance you can flash the stock firmware to return to default. Unfortunately, the US firmware wasn't available, but apparently the Puerto Rico one was. I flashed that and got my phone back working just fine, kind of.
First, it doesn't lock normally. Usually, I set it to the 10 minute lock delay, where I just have to swipe unless 10 minutes have passed, then it requires the password. Instead of going to a lock screen, it skips that and just goes right into the phone. It's probably a settings thing, but it's weird.
The worst thing is that I have apparently lost 30GB of storage to "miscellaneous". When I plug it into my computer, it says that I only have 1GB of storage on the whole phone. What is going on here?
Same thing happened to me. Your not gonna be able to flash anything else because of the space on the phone, and can't get the System Image onto a MicroSD card to try and fix it either. I tried both then I just called up AT&T and told them about a problem which I did encounter with the flash making noise when turned on. They replaced the phone
Not sure if there is an actual work around to get the space back but what happened was you flashed it to the wrong partition.
I have the same issue. No one has figured it out yet

The problem is that I'm not encountering any issues like that so far. I doubt that they'd replace an issue caused by failed root.
Sorry for the double post, but is there any way that I can create a situation where I could get my phone replaced? I just got it, so it still is under warranty.
Flash the ATT system image back on to it and brick it is about your only option.

Best case scenario would be to call them up and tell them your phone got bricked due to an update. Then let them know that you needed the said phone in a working condition until you can get a replacement.
Or tell them a bull**** problem, normally they send you the replacement then you ship yours out to them. Done this twice already I'm on my 3rd G4

You can take it to a shop, but they will still call customer service and you will have to mail it in still. I paid extra to have a next day replacement.
Was told they don't switch phones in store anymore. Had a few local friends confirm their warranty replacements were done the same way from in store. I'm not sure if that is a national policy, regional, or local. I can say I did like it better when they could switch out in store.
Anybody come up with another solution besides sending the phone back??? I won my phone off a att contest. So I doubt if att will do anything about it. Plus I can't install the stock Img and re soft brick the phone because I don't have anymore space

Is there anything that can be done with a bricked Flex 2?

I was tired and very short on time and got careless. I tried to unroot my Flex 2 by using the LG flash tool but because I didnt read enough, I did it wrong and now my phone wont turn on, wont charge, and cant get into download mode.
Should I put it in a drawer and wait until someone figures out how to unbrick or sell on ebay as broken? Kind of depressed right now...

How much did it cost? Or did they do it under warranty?
They repair it under warranty.
Usually phones have 1 yr factory warranty, so bountyman has sent it twice if im not mistaken.
If you're in the US send it in for repair.
I've just sent mine off for repair.
I bricked it editing system files, tried to use the flash tool but it didn't work so just took it straight to the store and they sent it off no questions asked.
The only problem now (aside from not having my phone) is that this time of year it can take up to 2 weeks to get it back.
If you are worried about them refusing because you voided the warranty, just tell them that you installed an official update and it wouldnt work after that. They can't argue if you make it look like it's their fault.
I'll admit it's wrong to lie but, it's an expensive phone.
thanks for the replies. I've started the repair process via email, had to ask them if I could still do it without proof of purchase and they said they will look up IMEI to verify manufactured date (it was 04/2015). Email support must be somewhere across the globe from me because I got a very fast response at 1am CT but no response during business hours.
I've learned my lesson. No rooting or unrooting as long as I have little kids that wear me out and leave me with no time to research.
