Good widgets to use as small apps? - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone have any good suggestions for widgets that make good small apps? If I can't disable it I may as well find some decent uses for it!

Authy is an excellent one for me!
When I know an app requires two factor authentication codes I just load up authy prior to logging in, then login and hit the copy to clipboard button right off the small app!

Annotatable form needed

I am looking for a very specific app to assist me with interviews. What I need is an app that can open a Word or Excel style template page. The page will have a list of questions and the space to fill in answers just like any normal paper application form.
Name:.........................................................................
Address :.....................................................................
..................................................................................
..................................................................................
Tel:................................................
Etc.
Now this bit is easy I have seen many app's that can do this, the next is the difficult bit,. I need the app to allow me to use a stylus to handwrite the answers in the fields. It does not need to recognise what I have written just save the page as I have annotated it with the handwritten answers. I can then open the template again and conduct the next interview.
Is there such an app out there? If not would anyone be interested in creating one? If this is a new idea then whoever wants it can use it. Thanks all.
Sounds like a good idea that can easily be accomplished using the Google App Inventor.
If I have a few spare cycles I'll see if I can throw it together.
Nice idea, would be a handy little app for many i'm sure.
Would be nice for it to have a "done and save" button so it auto went to the next form, and have an edit mode to edit the forms themselves (making it applicable for any survey, data collect use).
I'll have a look at the app maker today and see if a noob like me could knock something up (allthough its probably best left to those with experience).
Definately a good idea though ^^
EDIT: Oeer, think i may need to readup on the Appmaker for a week before i start ...Spose have to start somewhere. Consider me outof the dev picture for a mo ...allthough need any art/buttons i can help anytime xD

Application auto sorter

I found an application yesterday that has already proven useful. HERE IT IS It's an application organizer for the phone. I change phones frequently and I don't like having to set up the folder categories under apps each and every time. This does it for me. I thought I would pass it on for anyone else that might have similar situations.
Sorry but there is already a thread for sharing cool apps. Can you please repost your app share in the app discussion thread!
Thanks!

[APP][4.0+] Forum Fiend

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ape.apps.forumfiend
So I am the developer of a little known Tapatalk alternative forum reader called Forum Fiend. The app has come a long way since I released it last fall. The reason for my post is that I have noticed XDA is the #3 site accessed through Forum Fiend, so there might be a couple of users around here. Was wondering if people could share their issues with the app or provide feedback on how to make it better. My goal is to provide a fully functional and superior forum browsing experience vs Tapatalk.
Thanks in advance for your input!

[*]Added a quick popup tip on how to log in when you enter a forum as a guest
[*]Changed the language on the forum listing screen input box to make it more apparent that a URL is the required input
[*]Forum settings have been moved out of the sliding menu and on to their own screen.

I just tried it and it's a good start. It needs some work like labelling. Right now, it's just a box with the word "Add". Need a tutorial or something to guide the user into what or how to get into a forum. Right now, I had to guess and put the entire web address in the box. The key at the bottom needs a label. Even something as simple as "login" or something. I'm no IT/Tech expert but I can get around and figure stuff out. Not everyone is tech savvy so they need a little guidance.
Need a way to access favorite forums. XDA, for example, is a large forum. People don't like to scroll through every phone or tablet to find their forum.
Hopefully, this helps a little. I don't want to sound critical but these are things you need to know.
Taptalk is the gold standard right now but I like competition so good luck.

THANK YOU this is the kind of feedback I'm looking for

I've been looking for something to replace Tapatalk, and I've looked at FF a few times. Figuring out how to get a forum loaded was confusing. The only way I figured out how to get on to XDA was happening to see it on the Play Store pictures. Logging in was a bit awkward too. When I saw the key at the top, I figured it was a link to purchase a pro version or something.
Most of all though, the look of it kept me from switching over. It feels dated. From the default cartoon avatars before logging in to a forum and icons, to the font and colors, it just feels a little off, although the action bar looks fine. I also feel like the slide out navigation is sort of wasted on the settings menu and active users, neither of which I use much. They might be better suited for faster navigation, search, showing subscribed forums/topics.
The number 1 reason, though, that I am looking for a Tapatalk replacement is the ability to bypass the forum selection page since I only use XDA. If it could detect that only one forum is present and automatically enter that one when opening the app, that would be legit.
Sorry to seem like I was going on and on. I think it has good potential, and some easy-ish fixes can make a world difference.

Thanks, this is good feedback. I have read other comments in the market also saying the interface looks dated, but I am not entirely sure what a more modern interface looks like. Do you consider the general look and feel of Tapatalk to be a good example of modern, that I can use as a guide to work off of?
As for automatically going to a specific forum, that would certainly be easy to add. I was thinking of letting users place icons for their specific forums on their homescreen, so they could launch each forum just as they would a stand alone app. They would probably be widgets technically, but could look just like a normal app icon.

A holo interface would be nice keeping in time with current Google design and the majority of apps that currently being published.

Can you pleae explain what else is tracked and how?
I appreciate the fact you asked for the voice of community. I guess it's somewhat vital for application's life, if anything else for gaining people's attention. Anyway, first thing I noticed when I installed Forum Fiend (yeah, I installed Forum Fiend now for the first time) was the fact that you need to manually enter forum server's URL. It's not a major PITA, but perhaps it would be nicer if it was done the Tapatalk way. The design is quite up-to-date IMHO, but as Jesellers88 said, default icons are cute, but kind of unprofessional, I'm afraid.
Also, BBCode support is a quite handy feature which Tapatalk does not offer (kudos!), but a full-fledged editor with preview, code and other stuff depending on what each forum allows would be even better, though Tapatalk offers nothing.
To summarize: Forum Fiend is quite a nice application, but above mentioned suggestions (mine and from others in this thread) would bring it to perfection, I suppose. This post was intended to be a constructive critique and in no manner something intended to offend your work. I'm not an application developer or anything alike so this is my two cents .
Seems really interesting. Will certainly keep an eye on this project.
nice work. one issue encountered: app crashes when using "Last Page" function on a 1 page post. probably want to handle that better.

Yes sure, I use Google Analytics to track page views, and also I track an event each time a server connection is made (server URL only, no other information is tracked).
I also send server connection information (again, URL only) to a database at my website, so that in the future I can implement a "most popular" forums section.
I see someone saw my comment.
Thank you thank you thank you. I can't stand the Tapatalk app. You have my thanks and full support!

Thanks for the feedback. A preview mode for the BBCode editor would certainly be easy to accomplish, so I will probably be adding that in there.
The primary reason I do not have a forum listing/browsing option like Tapa, is that I do not have access to Tapa's massive forum database (at least, not that I know of). I agree that it sucks having to manually type in the server address though. To try to somewhat get around this, I have been logging which servers are being accessed from the app (server address only, no personal info), and plan on adding a "most popular servers" list, or some other way to browse. It is the best I can come up with for the time being though :-/ If anybody has suggestions on better ways to implement this though, I am open to any ideas!

Thanks. The reason I started this project, and the reason I lost faith in Tapatalk, is because I had previously bought their "pro" app. Then they downgraded it to a free app and released another paid pro version. I wanted something that works without getting nickeled and dimed!

[Completed] How can I extend the personal dictionary shortcut entry length on Android 4.4+

My problem is that I have no way of pasting text in this specific app which I use constantly because it won't allow you to tap & hold to paste and the keyboard I use doesn't allow for an easy, consistent, error free way of pasting (e.g: a simple clipboard button...).
My question: Is there a way to extend the length of the entry for a personal dictionary shortcut on Android 4.4. I am using a custom ROM (CM11) and am therefor on Android 4.4 with a Samsung Galaxy S4 when I could be at the most recent update. There are so many apps that boast about power to the user over literally every aspect of your device and that boast about being able to DO and SCRIPT literally ANYTHING so long as you have a rooted device, which I do have, but none that I have tried can fix my simple issue.
If there is no way I can modify the allowed text length for a personal dictionary shortcut, is there any way I could add a simple clipboard button to my current keyboard (Google Keyboard) or relatively easily create my own keyboard with similar aesthetics to the one I currently use and similar functionality while adding a simple clipboard button?
Can I create a script on my phone (rooted) that works like the personal dictionary shortcut of Android 4.4 in the sense that typing a shortcut (brb) will produce a chunk of text (longer than be right back) but that has more flexibility (is not limited to a mere ~50 characters)?
Is there any answer that would maybe possible be sufficient for anything along these lines of the questions above?
Also, this isn't very important, by why in the world does Google think that a simple, minimalistic, clipboard button is too much to add to their keyboard. Some dev made a blanket statement that whenever and wherever you want to paste text, you can always use the simple tap & hold feature. However, there are SEVERAL instances where this is NOT the case, one of which being my situation.
Finally, I realize this is XDA assist and I'm probably not posting this where I can get a sufficient answer but I have no idea where to post this on this forum. I don't want to post it in four different places because that tends to be frowned upon...

Hello, and thank you for using XDA Assist!
Yeah, it's rather a missed opportunity not to have clipboard functioned built into the AOSP keyboard, or even Google Keyboard. Although, there are keyboards out there that do. TouchPal comes to mind (as my phone is currently using it), and the Hackers Keyboard has a CTRL key, which leads me to believe that CTRL + V will work (but my tablet is upstairs at the moment).
If alternative keyboards are not your thing, the first place to ask for options would be with your device experts (in spite of the custom ROM). So I will leave this thread here:
> Samsung Galaxy S 4 i9500, i9505, i9505G, i9506 > Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting > [HELP THREAD] Galaxy S4 | Ask any question | Noob friendly
Please note, you will need to have an XDA account to post there.
Hope this helps, and good luck!

Need Suggestions For A Number Of Apps For Android TV

Hello, I have installed a custom ROM (6.0.1 w/ root access, etc) on my Android TV device (Google ADT-1) and I have some general Android questions (I think they are general questions) about adding some specific apps, as well as customizing the view on my TV. Here are my questions:
- Can anyone recommend a task killer app? I'm looking for something simple that just closes all of the open apps. Basically an app that once I click on the icon, it just closes all of the open apps (I don't need it to do anything fancy like closing system apps, etc).
- Can anyone recommend a reboot app? I'm looking for an app that once you click on it, it will ask you if you want to reboot, power down, etc. Simple and easy again is all I need.
- For the next one, I'm not sure of the correct wording, but I'm looking for something that will allow me to resize (make smaller) the Android viewing screen on my TV. If you look at the attached photo of my TV, you can see that when viewing something simple like the clock settings, you can see that it is cropped. Is there an app, or setting in Android that I can make the viewing area smaller?
- Lastly, is there are way to add a app 'shortcut' an desktop? Currently, if I want to open an app (speedtest, vpn app, etc), I need to go into the 'App Drawer' to open any of the mentioned apps - is there a way to create a 'shortcut' to add to the 'desktop' (again, I'm sure this is the incorrect wording).
Sorry for asking so many questions on one thread.

I don't have the Chromecast but, the following area of the forum is specific to this device.

Ibuprophen - thank you for you reply. I 'think' most of my requests for apps are general Android ones. I don't think they need to be specific to Chromecast, Android TV, etc. That being said, I will definitely keep the link and thread in mind for my questions.
