Hello, I have installed a custom ROM (6.0.1 w/ root access, etc) on my Android TV device (Google ADT-1) and I have some general Android questions (I think they are general questions) about adding some specific apps, as well as customizing the view on my TV. Here are my questions:
- Can anyone recommend a task killer app? I'm looking for something simple that just closes all of the open apps. Basically an app that once I click on the icon, it just closes all of the open apps (I don't need it to do anything fancy like closing system apps, etc).
- Can anyone recommend a reboot app? I'm looking for an app that once you click on it, it will ask you if you want to reboot, power down, etc. Simple and easy again is all I need.
- For the next one, I'm not sure of the correct wording, but I'm looking for something that will allow me to resize (make smaller) the Android viewing screen on my TV. If you look at the attached photo of my TV, you can see that when viewing something simple like the clock settings, you can see that it is cropped. Is there an app, or setting in Android that I can make the viewing area smaller?
- Lastly, is there are way to add a app 'shortcut' an desktop? Currently, if I want to open an app (speedtest, vpn app, etc), I need to go into the 'App Drawer' to open any of the mentioned apps - is there a way to create a 'shortcut' to add to the 'desktop' (again, I'm sure this is the incorrect wording).
Sorry for asking so many questions on one thread.

I don't have the Chromecast but, the following area of the forum is specific to this device.

With that stated...
Your best bet is to post this question within the following thread.

Ibuprophen - thank you for you reply. I 'think' most of my requests for apps are general Android ones. I don't think they need to be specific to Chromecast, Android TV, etc. That being said, I will definitely keep the link and thread in mind for my questions.

Hello all, long time lurker here.
I was wondering if there is any mod or app out there that lets me completely customize the Share Via menu. It's a totally handy feature other than the fact that a lot of the apps I want to use don't show up in that menu.
I've researched it and I've come to find out that; which apps show up in the share via menu are hard coded into each individual app, and in order for them to show up you would need to contact the developer to get him/her to add that feature.
Now, I'm wondering has anyone done anything to address this issue? I'm no programmer or anything, but I imagine it wouldn't be that difficult to be able to modify that menu extensively. There's and app out there call AndMade Share( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.andmadesoft.share ) that allows you to be able to edit the menu somewhat, but it doesn't allow you to add apps. I'm thinking one could possibly just completely edit the share via file, and allow a user to be able to decide which apps open in the 'Share Via' menu according to file extension.
For example, if I wanted to Share a .jpg, I could customize the Share Via menu to include, Instagram, Gallery, Picshop, Photoshop Express, Photogrid, etc. Or if I wanted to open a .MP4 I could customize the share menu to include, Video Manager, Video Trimmer, Video Player, Rock Player, etc.
I feel as though I've over explained this, but whatever. Is there anything out there like this that exsists or am I just stuck hoping and wishing?

In regards to app transfer process, has anyone experienced difficulties after a transfer of ownership was done?
We are developing an app for a client, who have an existing app being hosted and managed by a 3rd party vendor. We need to understand the process of helping the client get ownership of the current app and then with the same name of the app, push our (new) binaries as an update to the app. The key thing is that there should not be any disruption to the current service and the transition to the new app is transparent to the users – All reviews, ratings etc. remain the same.
- What are the key information transfers that must happen during transfer of ownership of an app (Keys, version no. etc.)?
- If new update to an app is completely different in architecture, is there an approval process from Google Play to go through? If yes, how long does this usually take?
So to summarize, ‘V’ is the third party vendor hosting the app named ‘X’ for our client ‘C’. We (Dev company ‘D’) want to replace the current app with our implementation, but retaining the existing app name, customer base, reviews, ratings etc. such that existing users just get a notification to upgrade their existing app and it changes to the new app once they download.
Thanks!
Hi,
I can find nothing relevant on XDA about this. I suggest you contact Google...
But you could ask your question here if you wish,

Good luck!
Thank you. Thread closed.
What is rooting as opposed to flashing as opposed to unlocking the bootloader, what is the ROM vs recovery?
How do exposed and gravity box fit in?
When and why would you want to do these things and how do they relate to each other?
Why are they (and which ones are) required just to do a full backup of my device?
How should I back up if I want all my configuration tweaking and settings to migrate but not the apps data?
How should I back up if I want to restore to a similar model device as opposed to the exact same one? What if they are running different versions of Android?
How should I back up if I just want all my apps and their data on a completely different model device?
How can I sync settings, apps & data between multiple devices whenever on wifi, without requiring user intervention - automatically, constantly and in the background?
Thanks in advance. . .
Hi,
Most of your questions are covered in this Android Dictionary from XDA,
http://xda-university.com/as-a-user/android-dictionary
You can click the colored words for more info.
That is a general overview.
As far as more details go, I can only suggest searching xda, or Google (adding the word "xda" to your search words) for more on your questions.
Xda Assist is here to help navigate the site, not for support or discussions. Unfortunately you've asked a "tell me all" type question... And that's a little more than we go into here.
If you need help finding your device section, let me know your device make and model number and I'll point you towards it.... There you can read more or ask further questions.
But really, if you're completely new to this stuff.... Spend some time researching all this before doing anything. And things will start to make sense. ?
Good luck!
I just got my first Android phone; Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. Needless to say, I have a lot to learn.
I have a Toshiba laptop with an Intel Core i7 & 8GB memory running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.
1st Question: What directories can I import JPGs (for Wallpaper) and MP3s (Music) into for use?
2nd Question: What software should I use on my PC to better communicate and interact with the S7 Edge?
3rd Question: What posts on this Forum should I read to quickly enhance my learning curve?
Thanks!
1st question: Any. The phone work like a flash drive when connect to computer and will detect on it own where you store your images and music.
2nd question: Because of 1st question answer, I don't think you need any. But if you want, there's samsung smart switch which can backup&restore data and recover your phone software if something have gone wrong.
3rd question: I will let others answer this.

Welcome to XDA and to the world of Android.
To further elaborate on your second question, depending on what you mean by "communicate and interact" there are a few things you may want to install on your computer (I do all the below and my computer is much weaker than urs).
For example if you want to send commands to ur device from computer then you can install adb on your device. This is particularly useful for certain apps that require special permissions that can only be granted through adb. You can also do other things with it such as change permissions - for example refuse background processes for some apps as shown in this guide here (guide also shows how to install adb) https://www.xda-developers.com/freeze-app-background-processes-without-root-android-nougat/ .
If you are interested in mods which you may find alot of people on this forum are, then you may consider downloading Odin for PC which will allow you to install a custom recovery (as well as other things) which will in turn help you make many mods to ur device. Guide to installing custom recovery: https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7...overy-official-twrp-hero2lte-3-0-0-0-t3334084 .
With custom recovery, you can "root" the device - allowing higher permissions than before and therefore more possibilities for customisation and function for apps. Custom recovery can also allow you to "flash" (install) a new ROM (OS), or flash other mods that you will see in the forums.
Question 3
I think my previous answer overlapped with this a bit. I reckon XDA is challenging place to start learning about the basics of android if this were your first device. It is messy and full of people who know the basics and are trying do go above and beyond the limitations of the Android market. If you want to learn through XDA, I recommend you look up the "questions and answers" or "guides, news and discussion" sections. Otherwise a quick google should answer most queeries regarding the basics of the android as you discover more about your device. If not, we are (friendly and) always here to answer questions (as long as you post in the right sections).
I hope this isnt too basic for you. I thought it be better if I start simple to ensure understanding. Any queeries or comments, feel free to post.

1. It's best to keep a clean folder structure within your device. On Samsung devices, Music is stored under internal memory/Music or external SD card/Music. I'd advise importing Wallpapers and the like to the "Pictures" Folder in either of the storage options.
2. No Software needed. Your Android Phone will work like a USB-Flash drive. Once connected to a PC or MAC, you File Explorer or Finder will show you the internal folders and files of your phone and you can just start drag&drop actions.
3. Hardest to answer....Just start reading. How I did it when I first came here:
- Start with the Forum Rules.
- Write down words I don't know/understand and research these words.
- Endless reading.
- Start asking questions.
- Endless reading (When it pays off, you won't notice. However, you'll notice when you didn't read and end up bricking your device.)
- Start testing on my own device.
- Answer questions.
Hope it helps =) Welcome to XDA!

I appreciate your comments and helpful attitude! I'll follow your advice.
Hello,
I have some questions, but I'm really not in this field, so it's possible to say some stupid things. Please forgive me.
Also please forgive me for posting this here, but I'm thinking that here I can find some specialists that can tell me in what direction I must look to find solutions.
I want to develop a product, for a group of older people. It's composed from a tablet + the software for it. The tablets I plan to order from a Chinese manufacturer, but for the moment I want to buy a couple of tablets from a local store just to see if it works. The OS should be Android. The main purpose of this product will be an app (with some widgets) that will be pre-installed on it. I don't want the app to be available on Playstore. The app will be very basic in this stage. So, until now seems simple. I hire someone on Fiverr to develop the app knowing the main specifications of the tablets, then I buy the tablets, manually install the app and setting it's widgets to display as I want.
BUT, I want also to customize the opening animation of the device. And very important, to be able to update the app and it's widgets, and also the way the widgets appear on the screens. And maybe install some new apps for added functionality. It must be very simple to use for these people, they don't know how to install apps from Playstore, and to setup widgets and stuff. It must be a product ready to use and possible to update in the future.
Is this possible?
I need a customized version of Android? This can be updated on the devices, and set up all things, apps and how the widgets display?
Or I can make all these with only an Android app?
Any advice is welcome, thank you
