Coming from the Captivate, I was shocked at how unnecessarily large everything was rendered on such a large screen. I guess that's what comes with having the same resolution but a much larger screen. To me, it is unlivable and I really have to lessen the the DPI--but to what?
So, what are everyone's favorite DPI settings and why? (Preferably with screenshots)
EDIT: I forgot to add the poll! Agh

Hello.
I tried several configurations, I am at 200 dpi currently and I feel it is ok
160 is very nice as well, but the keyboard gets too small and it is hard with my big fingers to work with it.
Just try one after another, use it for 1 or 2 days and you will discover the best for you. Start with a Big one, about 240 and then go down.
Please know that using the calculator, phone dialer or stock samsung email with different DPI configurations is a mess!!!! You should find the AOSP versions of email other apps, and try the different versions of dialers so you use the full screen after you change the dpi setting.
Also, consider TouchWiz is bad out of the box, changing the DPI makes it worst.
Use a custom launcher to get rid of that.
Saw a Galaxy Note today, and I think TouchWiz is good on it, but not in the Skyrocket.

Using 200 myself. Yup as the previous poster mentioned, the Samsung bundled apps have the margins set. need to find time to remove them, shouldn't be hard..Otherwise after playing around that's what I have settled in..
160 here for 720p!
download another keyboard if the default one is too small. i use slideit =)
i also use adw ex as my launcher and use exdialer as my dialer.
160 dpi with SwiftKey beta, the keys turn out absolutely perfect. On regular SwiftKey, I changed the heights to large and everything was good then.

180. screen real estate but can still read all text without zooming in
I've settled with my S2 4G (aussie model) to run at 190 DPI. Went back to 240 after a few days and wow, way to big.
I'm using Go launcher to fix the display issues on the home screen. Looks really good when icons set to display 6 down and 5 accross.
Will post screen shot shortly.
206. This is the natural DPI for the phone. If you measure the screen size (the 4.5 inches) and divide the area of the screen by the pixels you will get that value.
See the phone profile on gsmarena.com for more details. Basically it is what I think it should ship with rather than the 240 or really tiny 160.
I use nitrality to change my DPI. It will only let me go down to 182. Won't let me choose 206.
What other apps will allow me to change the DPI settings?
190 feels perfect to me. It's big enough that I can still see everything, yet gives so much more screen real estate

I use 220 (I am in my 50's so it works best for me )
Rom Toolbox lets you set any dpi.
Two questions:
1) I am new to the Skyrocket; on my previous phone (Atrix) when you changed launchers you had to clear out the homescreen to save memory. Do you have to do this also on TW?
2) How can I install the no background google search bar like you have?

1) I haven't had to do that on mine.
2) It either came with the Trebuchet Launcher that I'm using or it came with the rom (NexusMod Beta 3)

What did you use to remove the battery icon?
200 for me as well. How do you change out to AOSP Email ? I'm using K9 now but I would prefer to use the default email client

I modded my SystemUI.apk. I uploaded it in the NexusMod thread, so you can find it over there. It only works with NexusMod ICS though
Stock because I don't like market problems.

Use lcd modder products fix for market. And rom toolbox for lcd adjust if you are on a ics rom.

I was at 200 but went back to 220. May try that 204 suggestion soon but I enjoy 220 as of now. Easy to read when I just glance at my phone.
I'm using swiftkey and it seems I always miss keys unfortunately. Not sure if this is from the lcd adjust.
Also using exdialer.

Has anyone set a custom screen density on their Nexus 5? If so how does it look? I think default on my Nexus 4 was 320 but I set it to 240 to have things a bit smaller and I plan to do the same with the Nexus 5.
Nexus 5 build.prop says 480.
Can be changed, works ok for the bulk of the system but I found it did weird things with the stock launcher (kept triggering the keyboard?! I assume it messed with touch zones for the searchbar or something).
M.
+1 would also like to know whos tested and what works.

I flashed SlimKat build from daothanhduy1996 for the Galaxy S 4G T959 but the rom set dpi to 182. After searching for an apps to change the dpi, I got one but I don't know the default dpi for this phone (this is my mom's phone).
I read the specs and find out that this phone has 4" screen display with 480 x 800 res (233 ppi) but I can't find the dpi!
Can anyone tell me the default dpi for this phone?
240.

Hi, I've been trying to search online to find the answer to this to no avail. I know that the PPI value is 577, but I would like to know what the stock DPI value is, as well. Thank you!
Edit: I saw in one comment on Reddit that the stock value is 640 – is this correct?
My stock build.prop say 640

Why don't you just edit the build.prop file?

Weird, I never had problems with this (but I never went below 400 DPI) ... But still, flashable zip with AROMA won't do anything else, it just changes build.prop instead of you.
I guess it may affect the camera because the app is hard-coded for 480 DPI. When you lower it, the viewfinder gets moved to the left, at 400 is completely on the left edge (should be black bar with settings) there. So it may cause problems with lower than 400 ... Just a guess.
Try this, it works great for me: manually change DPI in build.prop, then use Xposed module "App settings" to force the camera to use 480 DPI. While you're at it, change the gallery also to 480 as thumbnails get a bit squished otherwise.

I came across a guy that was using 280 ... THAT is small!
Then again, stock 480 is overkill, way too big if you have normal eyesight. I'm using 400 for a while now and I'm happy with it (plus it's a perfect match with the screen's 400 PPI), but I'm thinking about going even lower (but not too much) - maybe 380 ...
