No such thing as CM11S nightlies.
Only CM11 nightlies, which are located here: https://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=bacon
Mind me asking what the difference is between the 2 cm11 Roms?

CM11S is an outdated CM11 ROM meant to be an official OEM release. It comes with Hexo CM11 theme.
CM11 updates every night, bug fixes fixed real-time pushed to you every day.

CM11S isn't really "outdated" its just the most stable release that passes the QA (Quality Assurance) test and is certified by Google.
CM11 more or less gives you a preview of what will be available in the next OTA. You can add your CM11S apps onto CM11 nightlies. http://www.cmxlog.com/11/bacon/ for the changelog.
To OP, you could have simply Google searched your answer.... next time please do that.

Only reason why I call it outdated is because when CM11 had the latest touch fix to fix ghost touches, I'm all up to my friends saying "THE TOUCHES FEELS SO GOOD U SHOULD TRY IT OH WAIT HAHAHAH".... Yeah... I'm weird.

Well... to be fair, you can use CM11S and use a custom kernel to have the new touchscreen firmware.
It just hasn't been updated because they're still working on other things other than the touchscreen firmware.
I do agree that they should do a small hotfix on that part, instead of waiting for everything all at once.

That's true, but it's more of a reason to convince people to switch from 11S to 11 or just AOSP custom roms in general.
But you're still missing out on newer potential features for the phone still only available to find on AOSP over 11S....which required a rom upgrade, like the screen artifact update.

But that's the thing.... It doesn't have screen artifacts because it doesn't have the partial display commit update in the room so kernel developers don't add that in... Right? o.o

Just a heads up that our ChameleonOS (ChaOS) public beta is out www.chameleonos.org. We should have our threads up in the development section in the next few days, but you can feel free to give it a try now.
Just installed. Seems great so far. No issues with the install, and everything seems to be running smooth. Great work!

Keep in mind if you want to change themes you can use MIUI themes, just there may few a images that don't cross over, but they almost completely theme it. We hope more themers pick up now that we are released

This looks neat.
Is this based on CM10.1 or CM10 releases, or branched a long time ago?
Does the theme engine allow a customizable phone dialer layout? I never liked the CM10 dialer, but I know some roms allowed the ui to be shuffled.
I should probably just download and try it, but my internet isn't handling another big download right now.

Really? Maybe it was just me. I tried it for a while and went through a few nightlies, and there was just to many problems. One of the big issues I had was the device not rebooting. Yes I know how to get it to boot up, but it's a total pain. Had another big issue with the gapps package with some of the apps putting a huge drain on the battery. I absolutely love CM. I wish there was a total stable version (which now I guess there is). But for me to use it everyday, especially for work as well, I just can't justify having it with all the issues I had. I also had some issues with reception on the phone.
There is no such thing as a Bug-less CM release, 'Stable' maybe for some people. Will everything work as it should for everybody? not the case.

the RC's are actually more stable for "most", but can still have issues for some.
on Nightlies you can have something working one night and it is changed and not working the next.
they are a WIP
the gapps flashing goes way back to an agreement btwn Cyanogen and Google. Forget details
I guess i do not know how to use tapatalk, did not mean to thank you especially 4 times. Anyways nightlies are not going to be stable.

Loving the M8 to death probably the best phone I've ever owned other than my gnex but would love to see some AOSP roms. Don't really care for sense and would love more of a lightweight Rom like AOSP. I feel we would get better performance as far as speed and battery life as well.
So is anyone working on one? Or need any testers?
Do you think an AOSP Rom would be perfect for the M8?
The ROM section(s)? GPE edition comes out in 4 days, I'm sure there will be some ports relatively quickly after that.
There is a GPE port and CM11. They aren't perfect yet but you can run them. Aren't too hard to find if you look around.

Well I can't post in the Rom section and the way it sits gpe isn't a daily driver nor has it been updated since the first alpha release. Not a fan of cm but good to hear it's coming. Just tired of sense holding this phone back.
The GPE port works okay other than some lag and the camera is annoying but works. They were saying to look in those sections not post there. Once CM11 is working I'm sure we'll see more but for now those are the options.

I do not consider CM to be asop. GPE yes, which I hope gets updated to fix the camera and what not because I can't use a Rom with a non stable camera. And I've already checked the Rom section or I wouldn't 've posting asking just saying. I'll just sit back and wait for something which I'm sure is coming sooner than later. I may end up
Brewing an asop Rom myself. Thanks for the input though guys!
To be clear - when I say GPE, I'm referring to the actual phone (One M8 Google Play Edition, ships on the 9th), not the ROM posted in the Android development forum.
Also, I literally just picked up this phone about an hour ago, and while I'm a huge fan of "stock," HTC has done an incredible job with this release.

I definitely agree HTC stepped their game up with sense 6 and keeping it's bloatware to the minimum. That being said I still prefer straight stock asop for its speed and battery not to mention I hate clutter. Also congrats on the new m8 which I'm sure you'll love. I love mine too that's why I didn't wait for the gpe device.

Why is the Cyanogen team putting more focus on CM11 unopposed to CM11s which is supposed to be their unique software for the Oneplus One? They even rolled out a Nexus-esque rom just yesterday.
This move doesn't make sense to me from a marketing standpoint. One would think the best way for them to go is to make sure CM11s is bug free and then focus on CM11 or whatever else.
THIS IS NOT A RANT. I'm literally confused so please keep all negative comments to yourself.
Sent from my One using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I would think it's because CM11 is on more devices (many more) than CM11S
there's only 1 phone that runs CM11S, where as almost every other phone has a build of CM11. There are even CM11 nightlies for the OPO if you would rather use that.
why would they focus all their efforts on one specific phone? THAT would not make good sense.
CM11S is meant to be a finished product. There will be stable finished builds in the future, but no nightlies.

I know it is meant to be a finished product, that's why I'm confused as to why they are still pushing the Nightlies so hard. Shouldn't CM11S be their main focus especially since this is their flagship?
Also isn't CM11 almost the same as CM11s except for subtle visual changes like the lock screen, etc? I would of thought that Cyanogen would of at least did CM11s nightlies.

nightlies are simply made available. they aren't pushing anything. the code base is compiled on a "nightly" schedule, and if anyone wants it they can go get it.
CM11S is by no means a flagship for Cyanogenmod in any way. its just a version they compiled for the OPO. The OPO was meant to be the first marketable consumer phone running stock CM. No company anywhere is making "nightlies" available for consumer products.

is there something specific in a newer nightly that you want on your OPO, or do you just want "whatever is the newest I can get my hands on"? if that's the case, you can easily switch over to a CM nightly.

From what I've read the Nightlies are more stable than CM11s. What I would definitely want is the stability. There is too many bugs on the stock ROM but at the same time I don't want to have to flash a custom ROM to get stability.
I do understand that this phone isn't officially released yet so I am grateful for beta testing the software.
Sent from my One using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
They are the same thing. Cm11 has nightly builds that are for every device where features are added and bugs are fixed. They are not considered stable. There are also monthly milestone builds which are considered somewhat stable. Cm11s is based on milestone builds with added proprietary code. You should see cm11s updates no sooner than every two weeks and no later than ever month. Any sooner would be annoying.
Cyanogen and OnePlus are not the same company. OnePlus made a stock android ROM based on source code to get people to shut up about making gpe phone. It's not Google certified so it doesn't include Google services or the play store. It's not signed by cyanogen so it doesn't flash with out unlocking the bootloader and using a different recovery.

It doesn't need to be certified by Google, its treated as a custom ROM and is not officially supported by the company. It has a separate gapps package to get Google Services/Play Store just like any other custom ROM.
Think of it as a 'reference rom' for other developers to get on the AOSP train if they choose to do so.

I'm aware. Is built from the cm source without the cm customizations.

can you dirty flash to regular cm, or is it different enough that we need to wipe the system?
I do agree that CM11 nightly is much more stable than CM11s.
But I still like CM11 looks though. CM11s a bit weird for me.
OnePlus One will be getting a new version of CM11S very soon. And will get Android L one released also... why waste time on older versions? OP clearly has no business sense... There has already been one official OTA that fixed some things (nothing is broken on my OnePlus One, everything works great) There are also 4 or 5 official roms... flashing doesn't void warranty... so I'd say they're doing quite well actually.
Swyped on my awesome OnePlus One 64gb
Unlock bootloader - check
Root access - check
TWRP recovery - check
Warranty still good - check
Hi there,
A quick one, is there any rom that is based on CM11S but not CM11 (If you know what i'm talking about)
I'd prefer CM11S because some of their apps, lock screen, camera. and etc.

There are a few mods already floating around to give you some CM11s goodies, but CM11 is what the other Roms are based on as CM11s isn't fully open sourced..

There's an apk version of the camera in the Mahdi ROM thread. What other apps do you want?

It's not just the apps. it's the feeling. I understood that everybody prefers more AOSP feeling on their phone. But I've tested few roms around the forum. It just doesn't give me what i want from CM11S.
But to me, I feel AOSP is more for Nexus devices (I had a nexus one before). And my previous Galaxy S3, also same using Samsung ROM instead. regardless their slowness.

I'm not sure what you mean. The only real difference between CM11S and CM11 is the lockscreen and a little bit of theming. Other than that they're pretty much exactly the same.

You can get CM11S to be identical in every perceivable way to the nexus. I have that right now. There is virtually no difference between the two when you have it set up correctly.

The only difference would be the lock screen. You can for sure get the camera, and I think it's possible for audio fx. But if not that's okay, check into Viper 4 android, it's a nice mod and works better than audio fx in my opinion.
The cm nightlies are more superior as they include fixes that are to be added in the next Ota. So you won't have to wait as long. This includes wifi settings fc with themes, in call audio, gestures being used when your phone is in your pocket, etc

In my opinion, the camera is different. Even when you use CM camera app on AOSP ROM
I noticed better pictures taken using CM11S Rom using The CM Camera App
I have been using CM Camera app on a AOSP ROM and it's not as good as the CM11S ROM..
Maybe this is just me?

Its most likely placebo. Are you using the CM11S camera that is XNPH33R version and not using XNPH25R CM Camera on AOSP?
Attached is XNPH33R Camera apk
If there are differences in camera.msm8974.so and other proprietaries in cm11 and cm11s, it can be different effect at last but they should be same due to latest changes
