I have a wifi only Xoom and it is Rooted. My question to you is, since it is rooted I obviously cannot be updated via OTA, it keeps showing up that I need to update. I cannot turn off automatic update when I go to about then update. Its really no big deal tbh, but it is really flipping annoying and just keeps coming back...
I would really appreciate some feed back and hope someone knows how to fix my problem. Thanks XDA!!!

Assuming you have CWM installed, you could follow the instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1575393
Install the update via CWM and get to 4.0.4 that way...... Ok, its not inhibiting the update notification per-se, but gets you on the latest stock build and keeps your rooted status.....
I would also suggest you check out voodoo root saver on the market. Its supposed to let your root survive an ota update.

Make sure you read the "General" and "Android Dev" sections also - don't just ask a question in "Q&A". As stated in post #2, there is an existing (though only about 1 day old) solution - and it worked quite well for me.
Good luck.

Well mister, how about you go ahead and post that sweet little HTML so I may click on it and square this away eh?
Or, it would be amazing if someone can just simply tell me which process to freeze. Cannot find a damn process with the word "update" in it to freeze.
IDGAF about a damn update, like I said, I am CONTENT with everything I have on my XOOM right now. Simply need to find the "process name" to freeze..
Sorry to be short, but I am pissed off, aggravated and personally am about to throw this in the Hudson river.

I thought from your first post that you wanted to be able to update and stay rooted. I referenced the "sweet HTML" already in post #2 as a way to update and stay rooted.
I have the T959v android phone, which I found out is a bit more complicated than my Samsung Vibrant.
I am running the gingerbread kernel after using Kies.
I have finally successfully flashed the T959v using Heimdoll following this guide. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21953878&postcount=2
Super User has been installed using SuperOneClick.
After struggling with it and reading on some sites it's possible and some sites it's not possible, I've come to the conclusion that Rom Manager is not a good idea to use, to install a Rom on my particular phone.
I want to install this Rom here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1402966
However I reviewed the instructions and found I was lost on some parts.
I know how to get to recovery mode (with the phone turned off, hold down volume up and down and the power button)
However, here's where I get lost:
6. Perform Voodoo -> Disable Lagfix.
I do not have this option, likely because I'm missing voodoo or some sort of app. I've tried googling this and figuring out what it is, but I don't even know what a CWM is.
I haven't tried (since I'm atleast smart enough to review information before I start following them, lest I get myself stuck somewhere and unable to back out of). However I believe I can get as far as Step 5.
Unfortuantely I can't get any further.
The only apps I have installed (besides the annoying bloatware on the phone) are the ones I listed above.
This is my first time flashing a phone or doing any of the above, previously my friend did it for me.
So I apologize for whatever Incompetence I may have, however if you can simplify instructions I'm pretty good at following them.
The hard part is that I don't know how to do a lot of the instructions.
Is there a video? Perhaps a guide with pictures that includes all the software I need and how to install that software?
I'm sorry for the questions, I hope someone can help. This has been a long and frustrating process but I'm determined to finish it.
Thank you in advance.
Ah also this: "Must have pre-installed kernel with clockwork recovery!"
I cannot do this because when I try and use clockwork recovery it says it cannot support my phone.
It gives me a list of 4 devices, none of which are my phone.
Then I click on "My device is not listed" and it states the T959v is not supported.
I'm really sorry for all the questions.
Not only does this app look nice, and sound nice due to hardware acceleration. Above all it gets rid of that bloatware crap from T-mobile.
I look forward to giving this app a try.
Hello my friend i know how excited you are when it come's to flashing, installing, removing apps on your phone, but before you do any harm to your phone maybe
consider reading this http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_4G before going further. it save's you a lot of time and headache plus you can avoid
flaming from other people here. and also try to use the search bar just i case you have further question's..
I advice you to take some time to read first on what do you want to your phone before doing anything.. don't be in a hurry we have tons of great roms in here..
Do not use clockwork manager...it is not for this device!
If you have super user ur rooted and good to go ...i would suggest you play around with the gingerbread roms for a spell before going to icecream sandwich roms, just so you get a feel for flashing on this device.....i too came from the vibrant and dearly miss it.
This phone is far from a vibrant but is coming along.
Feel free to pm me.....I may be a bit slow on replies since I'm working 7/12's 3rd shift.
Thank you both so much for your replies.
Warren I am checking that link out right now. Thanks
Shortbus, I miss my Vibrant too.
Technically speaking my Vibrant is still usable, but ever since I dropped it and cracked the screen it seems to have drastically slowed down (and the screen is annoying with all the cracks too).
Sad day for me.
I still want to try and get that Rom I had posted above working, as I doubt I'll move to another rom anytime after that. But I'll try and learn more about it using the link you gave me Warren. It'll probably take me several days ~_~
Shortbus I may email you with questions I come across from time to time if that's ok

If you want to install Valhalla Final - read the guide in the first link of my signature and begin where applicable.
I don't mind.
Flashing roms on this device is easy once you realize its not the vibrant lol.
Like the vibrant....this thing is near impossible to brick,....just a lil bit more complicated than the vib.....till you get to understand it.

Ah, so I should switch to Froyo instead of Gingerbread from the looks of it.
I'll get right on that I'm going to try following your guide now
edit: I saw that you switched to Gingerbread, jumped too far ahead of myself.
I'm getting pretty far along in the guide, I'm now at the part where I am about to install the rom.
I love that you guys respond so quickly too.
In the process of using Heimdall I ran into so many issues but was (slowly) able to work through them and figure them out.
It's nice to know I can come here if I have a quick question.
I'm not much help with heimdall....I use gremlin remover, its a one click Odin program....serves the same purpose....to bring you to a rooted stock state.
Okay, we got the 4.3 update we all been waiting for. Now comes the magic question - WHY.
I'm not trying to troll here, I think I have a valid question. It's got features taken out, a lot of stuff is different now, some things work, some things don't. It looks different, but - is it better? I am yet to find what is it that it does better than original 4.1 firmware.
I guess what I'm trying to ask is : "give me a reason not to revert back to where it was"

I have to say, it was incredibly disappointing that Samsung decided to sneak device lock-down disguised as a software update. Very lame. I was under impression that Samsung does value community building mods for its overpriced phones, understands the value of such community. Apparently, they don't. I agree with someone who said it will be the last Samsung device he purchased, I think it's time for me to join the boycott.
But coming back to the issue at hand: lets imagine I was lucky enough not to trust Samsung to deliver me an update and instead took a hacked one. Is there any reason whatsoever to stay on 4.3? And by that I mean:
- does 4.3 solve some problem in original firmware, that anyone should care about?
- does 4.3 implement some new feature, which was not in original 4.1 firmware that I should be excited about?

What features were taken out? Anything that can be replaced with better apps on the market shouldnt count. In my opinion the new stock task manager makes it worth it.

At this time, my biggest issue is that codes do not work, and i cannot get into hidden menu, so no QPST. I'm on PagePlus, so updating PRL is a manual process, and without putting phone into modem mode I cannot do that.
There are a few other annoying things, such as: can't turn off warning against increasing volume on headphones (i think there's some add-ons which let you do it though)

I can understand your annoyance with the hidden menu being gone. But that wasn't a "feature" it was a "hidden menu" after all and with root there are ways to get rid of the volume warning. That bugs the crap out of me as well but not to the point to change it yet.... YET!

Nah, Samsung hasn't been overwhelmingly developer friendly for awhile. There's a bit of dislike for them due to Exynos processors.
Additionally, it wasn't that sneaky. The phone was intended to have a locked bootloader from the beginning. It was expected that the update would patch the loophole we found from the leaked aboot step. That's why it was mentioned multiple times to not accept the 4.3 update in case it locked the bootloader.
Samsung hasn't been developer friendly for a long time. Anytime you take an OTA update you can expect it to prevent the use of custom firmware unless a trusted source says it doesn't.

Hi!
I really hate asking such noobish questions but I'm seriously thinking about rooting my phone to get added features. But I'm really afraid to! I don't want to flash any ROMS to it but want added functionality that some apps have to offer.
Here's my short list of concerns:
1) Will I hurt my phone?
2) When there is an OTA update to my device what do I do. I heard people talk about it but never really paid much attention since it didn't concern me.
3) Will doing so take up more storage? The device only has 16GB and I try to keep at least 7GB free.
4) How much of a degree in rocket science will I need to do this? I'm an IT professional but I work with mainframe technology (very large systems). I'm not afraid of downloading and running trusted software and am very good at following directions.
5) If I root my phone when do I have to unroot it?
6) And last but not least where do I find out how to root my device?
I appreciate the help/advice! I just have to be careful I don't have the extra cash to go buying a device if I brick my current phone!
Again .. thank you much in advance!
BTW I'm running a Nexus 5 16GB and my carrier is Sprint.
Hola. I will try to answer your questions, as good as i can
1. If you are careful, the chance is small. I have personal never broken anything. I have tried a bad ROM. But it didnt brick anything In the start, i only wanted to root, to get the features that root gives you. But now i flash custom ROM´s and stuff like that. So try it, trust me its worth!
2. What do you mean with a OTA update? Maybe i´m just stupid...
3. It dosen´t take much space on my phone, so i can´t see why it should do it on your phone. Ofc. if you have alot of programs, and data it does
4. Not much, everybody can do it, if they just read about their phone, and generally root.
5. When you wants too
6. Check this link, http://www.xda-developers.com/android/how-to-root-and-unlock-the-google-nexus-5-xda-developer-tv/
Write if you need more help. But i dont know anything about rooting Nexus 5, so dont blame me. Just use the guide, and the chances for bricking is small

If it's any help, I'll say this: I had a Nexus S, rooted and flashed with new ROMs a million times. It suddenly died on me when charging, and I went out to buy another one to root and flash again. It's that awesome to be able to make it a custom experience, I'd say go for it no matter what. Just a little care goes a long way, though.
My SM-P900 is a great device, in terms of screen and pen, but not at all smooth (I'm on stock 5.0.2). It feels to me more like a hardware issue - not enough RAM, nor horsepower to deal with the all the pixels being pushed. I've have been poking around this forum all morning, and I'm still left with a couple of questions:
- does Lineage improve the lagginess to a noticeable degree?
- Is there a quick Odin way to get it back to stock as a last resort?

yes it is . i have resisted for the last three years but now have succumbed. the upgrade is well worth it and battery life has suddenly come back to how it was. faster snappier and more customisable. better in every way. i only did this last week and do not regret it for an instant
You sold me .
Of course now comes the challenge. Could not get heimdall to work; now trying Odin.
Update - totally worth it! Buttery smooth.
Odin method was actually pretty easy. Got nervous when the first boot took about 8 minutes, but it landed eventually.

HI, as strange as it sounds I actually just got my hands on a new Note Pro 12.2. Based on what I've been reading I think I would be better off rooting it. Probably better to do it now before I start using it.
Would you be so kind as to point me in the right direction or share with me a link on how to root it? I'm not a total newbie at rooting, but have not done it in a long time (last root was my HP Touchpad ).
I tried searching, but so many options are showing up and it's getting very confusing as to what to flash. I don't want to flash an out-dated build.
Thank you

First you should confirm your model number - mine is the standard wifi-only module - SM-P900
For that model, the instructions at the top post of this post worked fine (don't use instructions on the lineage page - they're complex and people like me had problems getting them to work).
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...-7-1-xsm-p900-unofficial-cyanogenmod-t3524788
To summarize (be sure to get all the details and warnings from that post)
Download Odin / TWRP / Lineage build / su zip / google apps
use odin to flash twrp
use twrp to flash lineage, su, google apps

I heard that you're having trouble with lagginess? I wonder if you're using something like DU Speed Booster to help clean your caches, etcetera, and occasionally cleaning your Recycle Bin. Also, it helps if you're able to access your SD Card properly. Some OSs (most notably 5.1.1 don't want to play nice with one that is larger than 64 gigs, or one that has the wrong filing system. I got it fixed on mine, but at this moment I don't remember how. Just give me a day or two and I'll figure it out and get back to you. Will talk with you shortly. Rob

Im in the same boat, if i root and install lineage to get the latest Oreo version will i lose any functionality that the stock pro 12.2 has?
Can i reverse the root and go back to standard if for some reason i lose functionality on the pen etc?
In all my years of owning android tablets and phones ive never rooted one of them, but this tablet is a beast and i would like to see it running at its best and feel that a software upgrade is long over due.
I personally would wish somebody ported Tab S3 Samsung Experience powered by Lyneage on the P900
Despite I would love to have the most recent version of android achieved on this tablet, I just can't quit the Samsung Experience, that's the only thing I hope it happens
My tablet is now at least as responsive as it was on 4.4.x. Lollipop had made it super laggy. I'd be tempted to say it's even faster, but I haven't really tested it yet.

Hi, I don't know that anyone has responded, but everything I have read claimed that it was a bad idea, because every ROM is specific to the device. That may be changing with a very new (I think?) development that has to do with Project Treble and GSI. If you google SM-P907A custom ROM, what do you find? You may find something if you keep poking around.....Good luck!!!
Pen Functionality
Does the SPen continue to work in LineageOS?
I want to upgrade, but I don´t want to lose the pen functionality.
For P905, you have to check if you are willing to live with the bugs that are currently on the roms.
I think the most stable for me was Lineage 14. Since it only had 1 major bug that could be kind of fixed. The others have:
1. Broken palm rejection
2. Phone related issues
3. Rotation issues on some
4. No mobile data on the latest
Unfortunately, it's pretty slow on mine that I am considering just going back to Lollipop since I want a stable device that isn't so slow.
Best I ve ever done to my old P900 - LIneage (Android 7.1.2) is incredible fast and give back full functinality (some Apps I.m using very often need Android 6)....I m very happy with this upgrade
The "Error 7" code mad me crazy last afternoon - I had to format the item with TWRP and the there was no problem to install the upgrade

Hi, what's the problem with palm recognition in 8.0+?
Tab can't recognize pen and palm (pressure, gestures, button) or when you write tab does not disable the regular touch?
It's "fixable" using other app like Squid?

It means that when the stylus is close or touching the screen, your palm should not trigger the touch screen. This is an OS level feature. Without it, people writing/drawing notes would have marks on the area their palm is resting or unexpected zoom is performed. Other applications can have a workaround like enabling pen only for drawing but those are rare.
