Phone making strange sounds - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone else feel like their phone is making strange sounds. Almost like it's flexing? It happens to mine periodically and I'm trying to decide if I want to send it back and get another.

When it make this sound?
- when u put some pressure? or what?
Xperia phones don't have bendgate

The phone seems to creak a bit when a little pressure is applied to the middle of the phone. Just curious if anyone else has the same issue?

I have the same issue. Phone creaks and flexes slightly when pressure is applied just above the centre of the phone's display; easy to replicate when pinching the phone with fingers at this point.

Ok, I thought I was going crazy for a minute. I'm in the united stated and bought my phone for handtec and I don't eeally feel like shipping my phone back to the UK and waiting for another unit to be shipped. If its normal then I guess I deal with it. Hoping to hear more from some other people to see if this is normal or not.

I have ordered a replacement which should arrive tomorrow. I will report back on whether or not it has the same creaking sound behind the screen.

I can't replicate this on mine - from EE

It's the tacky heat spreading spongy type stuff in between the battery and glass panel, did it on tablet z. Nothing to worry about.

So I got my replacement device today and the flexing is all but gone. I can feel/hear a small amount of give but it is almost none existent and nothing at all like it was before. My only complaint now is the slight light bleed along at the bottom of the left bezel (in portrait). My first device had the same minor issue but it's nothing to lose sleep over.

glass lifting

Hello,
Sorry, I accidentally posted this in the Desire HD forum first (not that it should really matter of course).
I've started to notice that the glass on my Inspire 4G is making a slight snapping noise and moving a bit sometimes when I press on the corners, almost as if the glass is lifting slightly over time. Once I press the corners, it is fine for a few minutes, then I can do it again, hearing the snapping noises.
I want to root my phone and install RCMix HD, but I don't want to void my warranty if the glass is going to lift off my screen in a few months. Is anyone else seeing this issue? Other than this and poor battery life, I absolutely love the phone. It's a HUGE improvement over the xdandroid experience on my Touch Pro 2.
Anyone else with this problem?

Yes, others have complained about the screen lifting. If you are within the 30 day return policy, you can try to exchange it. I don't think it'll completely come off over a long period of time.
yea, i didn't notice till after my 30 days were up. Still trying to find time to call HTC about it, Bugs the crap out of me! I'm sure it will lift to the point of dirt and moisture getting under there though. Damn tape!

If you bought the phone from at&t, they can do a warranty exchange or like you said, call HTC and see what they can do. If you rooted your phone, you need to bring it back to factory original state prior to returning it to either HTC or at&t.

LOL. HTC will do a warranty exchange. Not sure if rat shack will care.
If I do bring it in for a warranty exchange, will the next one just do the same thing? Is this common to all Inspires, or are most alright?
I know others have complained about the screen lifting or moving near the search key. Others have also complained about the lcd making funny colors while pressing on the search key. I guess its a hit or miss.

Mine is also doing it
Sometimes it gets really bad and so annoying knowing that later through normal use eventually the glass will come off and or get all kinds of dust/lint under the glass.
I got mine @ Costco on launch day and they mentioned 90 days to replace if defective and after 90 days that I would have to deal with HTC for warranty? Is this true has anyone else dealt with Costcos wireless, will they replace it?
Funny thing is on launch day my brand new Inspire had white specks of lint under the glass and within the week I got it replaced and they agreed its defective.
So this could be an uprising defect.

I bought mine directly from AT&T, and am still in my buyer's remorse period. So my biggest decision is whether to get another Inspire 4G or to switch to another phone. I love this phone, but don't want to get another if it is going to have the same problem. However, I don't know what other phone I would get in its place.
My corner by the search button is now visibly elevated. Either I just now noticed this, or it is rapidly getting worse. At this rate, I feel the glass would be off completely by next month.

There is no lifting or moving on mine, though I can get a tiny bit of distortion if I hold down the search key firmly, however, you really have to press hard to get that, in normal use it is fine.
Edit-I guess some of this is like the patient who tells his doctor "it hurts when I move my arm this weird way", to which the doctor responds "Don't move it that way"
Damn... Mine is doing the same thing. This is bothersome...
It's not noticeable for me, unless I concentrate on it while I'm pressing on it. Also, if I hit the search button like others here, it discolors the screen.
Are there people out there who this doesn't happen to?
I'm considering "upgrading" to the Atrix. I really love the Inspire, but if it's just going to fall apart or get dust under the screen, I won't be able to handle it. The battery life of the Atrix entices me too, but there's just something special about the Inspire...
How long is the warranty on our phones? I suppose I could just replace it a few times before the warranty is up, but if my last replacement has the same issue later... I just don't know.
I sure wish that AT&T would have nabbed the Sensation. Then I would be switching right now, no question.
It's a "feature"
Mine does it, but it doesn't effect the phone. It's in a case so I don't even notice it now.

I wouldn't consider that an "upgrade". The manufactures warranty lasts a year.
Seems the only solution to fix this problem is to hit the search button with a hammer xD.
All jokes a side as long as there is no dust and the glass isn't seriously falling out of the phone, I would just chalk it up as normal. Every phone has its quirks.

Hence the quotes around "upgrade"
Anyway, I agree that every phone has its quirks, and that's fine. For me, the relatively short battery life of the Inspire is a quirk. But a lifting screen isn't a quirk, but a straight-up defect. A defect should never be considered "normal", even if it happens to all phones of a certain model.
I'm going to go and exchange the phone this afternoon. If the display model at the store is okay, with no lifted screen, I will go with the Inspire again. If the display model is lifted as well, I may go with the Atrix. Hopefully the bootloader protection will be broken someday, and development will flourish.
It really is a bummer for me though, as I really do love my inspire.
By the way, just got off the phone with HTC to see if this was a known issue that was being fixed in manufacturing. Apparently, my representative had never heard of the problem. Must be so slight that most people aren't noticing the problem.
Anyway, It sounds like it isn't being actively worked on to fix the issue.
If i push the glass in the corner of the search key, i can feel the glass mive and it creeks too.

My right lower corner bleeds out a little if I push on it real hard and so does the left side but screen is not elevated at all. it's as flat as it can be. There is no dust trapped. This phone is like 1 month old. I also went to the at&t store and checked out to the display model and all are the same but none had the screen elevated.
This may be an individual issue. But I also tried to push the atrix and captivate on the right lower corner and they dont bleed.

Talk about a pita, I have been transferred to everyone under the sun at htc and at&t with no one telling me anything but send it in. I don't know about you, but I can't live without my phone for that long due to work.
Should've bought it at Best Buy. Geek squad protection plan is expensive but very well worth it for oh crap moments or times like these.

[Q] Blue blotches on screen?

Hi, I I tried searching for this issue but couldn't find any thread specific to my problem. In darker lighting and on dark images or video I notice some bright blotches in the left center of my screen. It's a pain watching videos with it, but does not impede use of the device. Forgive me if this is common light bleed, but I thought that was exclusive to the edge of the device. Is there any fix I can do on my own or should I try and rma?
I would personally suggest an RMA, that doesn't look right somehow...
U have heavy lightbleed on the top and bottem left side of your screen.
But those blobs in the middel should not be there.
I would suggest a RMA

I had those on my 16GB that I RMA'ed....now my 32GB that I got as an exchange is starting to do it as well.
Starting to regret giving Asus another chance. Never trusted their products before and with good reason......
Thanks guys I'm going to try and return it to Fry's and get the new samsung galaxy tab instead.
You're the third person I've seen with this issue in the past week which is an alarming trend to say the least.
Did it develop over time? Was it there in the beginning? Check your serial number on the box for the revision code (starts with B, EX: B5O, B4O, B6O), which is it?
Definitely RMA. It's unacceptable when there's tons of light bleed on the edges but when it's in the center that's just ****ed.
Looks like I'm too late to return, I'll have to RMA. The serial number is B4O, and I suddenly noticed it, though it's quite possible that it happened over time, I don't recall it being there when I got it.
I am having the same issue, though not as bad. I will try to post pics when I get time.
I just can't decide if a RMA is worth it.... sigh.
My Serial starts with B4O as well.
Edit: Is this actually light bleed or something else? It looks like the IPS screen was impacted before install.
I just sent one back for having a white blob in the middle of the screen about 4mm in diameter I assumed that was light bleed of some description there was plenty round the edges too..
The really worrying thing is the replacement that has just arrived, if I apply light pressure on back of tablet about two inches above asus logo it looks like something is pushing against the screen you get all those rings and what looks like a rainbow effect. I noticed it when docked and moving the screen back and forth the same effect occurs.. I never saw this on my other one, is this just cos the unit is thin and flexes or is it another badly put together tab?
I love this product, why cant it just work

I only notice mine at near full brightness, and with the room pitch black. They are pretty small too. I think I may just try to live with it, as it seems RMA isn't a 100% fix either. I'm afraid I'll be without it for 10-15 business days, and possibly end up with something worse!

That's ridiculous. I shouldn't be afraid of more problems after sending my unit in as a RMA. I think I am just going to hold off and reevaluate the issues in a few months. I'm just worried that the dust in my screen will continue to get worse and worse.
Can anyone speak for a device with a different serial? Also, should I wait and see if ASUS actually fixes it, or RMA as soon as possible? On a side note I thought for RMA they would send me another one and I'd ship this one back when I got the other one, does ASUS not do this?

What's your S/N prefix on the replacement?
This is how it will play out:
1. You call Asus and set up an RMA with the extremely rude customer service.
2. You pay return shipping (about $14-$20) to ship it back to them.
3. They take two weeks to wait for parts and then a week to repair and send it back to you.
4. They end up replacing the LCD and not doing a replacement for the whole unit. You get a "repair", not a "replacement".
5. If you so much as leave a single ding on the unit the service center will mark it OOW (Out of Warranty) and claim no liability for repairs because you damaged it.
At this point the light bleed is so bad you really have no choice.

So at this point my options are to RMA and most likely not get a fix, keep it and try to ignore the lightbleed, wait for better manufactoring/repair and then RMA, or sell it for $180 on Gazelle or maybe more on Ebay/Amazon and use that to buy the thrive or tab instead. I'm leaning towards the first and maybe the last, but I'd be paying about $750 on the last one (calculating new tablet price by adding old price and subtracting the difference.). Suggestions?
Just noticed this on my transformer. It's barely a month old! Gonna take it down to the service centre tomorrow. Ridiculous.

How'd this work out for ya? I was curious how the Galaxy camp was doing so been reading through the Galaxy 10.1 forums, geez I thought we had problems, lots of similar complaints over there about build quality, keyboard lag, reboots, etc and worse of all evidently alot of them have what they call Newtons Rings effect on the tab where the top glass presses against the LCD and makes water looking blotches some of them over half the screen and it changes with temperature lulz. I have seen that stuff before on anything with an Otterbox Defender case with that built in screen protector, those always do that and it's hideous I couldn't live with my tablet doing that.
I have just sent my tf101 back for the newton rings effect you describe.. Maybe galaxy tab ain't the answer either then

The loose/unbonded screen issue...

So, I've just received my third Infinity, after having to send the first two back because of defects with the screen. The first had a large speck of dust trapped right under the centre of the screen, and the screen on the second gave everything a horrible yellow tinge.
The one I've just received has what looks like a perfect screen image wise, but there's a horrible clicking sound when I press along the right hand edge - so, it appears that this infinity also has a fault, which I know from reading these forums is fairly common.
I'm really starting to loose heart with this tablet - it's my first one, and as much as I want to love it, I'm sick of receiving defective units. If I return this one, then I'm going to be running the risk of receiving another with a dodgy screen or worse.
If I decide to keep this one, what are the chances of the clicking/unbonded screen becoming worse? Can anyone who's had this problem comment on whether the area that clicks has expanded over time, or if your screen has started to separate noticeably? Is this likely to happen?
I've bought through Amazon so I'm able to return it without any hassle, but I'm reluctant to go through the ASUS quality control lottery for a fourth time.
I would appreciate any advice or comments.
Mine is 2 months old and i had the clicking issue from the beginning but it didn't got worse and to be honest i don't even notice the clicks anymore (i guess that my brain got used to it ).

Send it back - that's not acceptable for a highend electronic product. You keep doin this until you get one with accaptable build quality or you buy another brand. Choice is yours. But never accept poor build quality in high end consumer electronics
Had mine for about 3 weeks and received a screen protector a couple of days ago, no problems with the screen but was worried applying the screen protector would show up any defects clickingwise. Panic over screen protector on and display is looking good.
Yeah, I think too many people here accept the fact that their unit has some fault and then just think "well, it could be worse. Be happy with what you got". No way! this should be THE high end tablet, one of the most expensive ones there are and then it has this kind of faults.
IF everybody would be same and think "well this is ok" then Asus wouldn't even learn from their mistakes. They would just keep on with the crappy QC and nothing would be fixed. Maybe they would even worsen the qc to save money and try to find out where is the line that people don't accept the product.
For me, I spend a lot of money and I want my unit be perfect out of the package. It is other issue then if I break it..
I too am having some screen issues, but I think I will have to send my unit back to ASUS completely. Most Dutch retailers only have a very short return period, and I've already had mine for 19 days. I guess I will contact the retailer and ask them what I should do. However, it is really unacceptable that you pay a high price for such a premium product and that it has issues that really should not ocur. The reason why I didn't go back to the retailer was because I didn't really notice it at first, it just got more annoying later on...

I'm returning my 2nd TF700t tomorrow 'cause of loose screen. This time it also made the clicking sound :/
Mine has a loose screen but it's the lower left hand corner by the headphone jack, hdmi port, microphone area. You don't even need to squeeze it hard, it feels hollow in that area and it makes a crunching sound. My biggest fear is the ports there are either going to get damaged or cause a short touching the case. Amazon is sending me a replacement which I should have tomorrow.
Amazon was really gracious in taking my 201 back that I bought in May, but man, WTF, I love Tegra games so the samsung tab is out and I hate Samsung with their wishy washy update and the fact they stop supporting their legacy products fairly fast.
If this next one is trash I don't know what to do, I don't want to be banned by Amazon for returns, sucks ass.
Thanks for all the replies and comments - it seems that this loose/unbonded screen issue is more widespread than I first thought...
All those who have said that I shouldn't accept this on a premium device are, of course, correct. Although the tablet seems to work properly now, I'm worried that several months down the line the screen might start to separate or some other related problem will arise, & I'll be left to deal with Asus direct for a warranty repair. It makes far more sense to get it replaced now, so I'm just about to contact Amazon to tell them that this tablet, the third one that they have sent me, is also faulty.
Here's hoping my fourth will be fault free as it'll be the last one I get - if there's a problem with it then it'll be returned for a refund & I'll start to look at other brands of tablets to buy instead.

If you check out the Nexus 7 forum (also an ASUS tablet) you can gleam some interesting information about the screen separation issues. It's not as easy to take the Infinity apart, so fixes aren't readily available, but I'm sure the issues are related.
I wonder if the glass and digitizer on this tablet are stuck down by something similar to double sided foam tape.
Might be a contact film type adhesive too.
My experience with these type of sticky adhesives is that sometimes a little warmth or just over time they will adhere better.
I did have a slight clicking on the bottom of my tablet, it's not there now.
Just some thoughts.

From the ASUS Nexus 7 forums I understand that the loose screen/screen separation may be due to adhesion issues that can be somewhat or completely solved by gentle heat followed by light, consistent pressure. Someone did try that with his Infinity with limited results but I think his frame may not have fit properly as well. The crunching sound some have reported may be due to a really crunchy type of tape used to hold down the battery, if there's any excess flex that causes the screen/digitizer to touch the tape. There was also a screen lift/light bleed issue caused by over-tightened screws in the frame holding the motherboard, etc together. That was user fixable, by just loosening the screws and making sure that they were all fairly evenly tightened. That also really helped with the light bleed issues too.
I received my replacement from Amazon, this one is all good, it even has the cooler color screen I like compared to original, sweet!
I have just sent back my second tablet to amazon after receiving the first one with nearly jammed in buttons and a clicking screen. The second one I got had a little clicking to start and then got progressively worse until I chose to return it. Amazon emailed me and said that they are just going to refund me my money instead of sending out another one with probably similar problems... don't really know what to do now... any other good tablets coming out? Haha

The way these tablets are held together is via a longer L shaped plastic edge on the faceplate that mates top edge first to a the ledge built into the backshell. Once inserted under the shell at the top edge the rest of the screen can lay down into the rest of the backshell. There are smaller L shaped clips up and down the outsides which click into place via finger pressure. The bottom edge is secured by two metal slide locks which mount the front to the back much like an old style door chain where the round part fits into a large hole and then slides into a narrower opening to latch it into place.
The point of this post? if the sides or top seem loose you can probably click them together with finger pressure. if the bottom is loose the latch got locked without the round part in place. for this you should return if you have warranty left. If it crunches they probably broke an L shaped clip while assembling.
I received my 2nd Infinity today and I immediately noticed the screen on the bottom left hand corner is above the frame and the rest of the bottom part of the screen flexes when I hold it normally. I'm sending it back. I'll give the Infinity one more chance and hope I get a good one. If not, I'll have to look at other options. At some point enough is enough.
My advice for anyone that has build quality issues with their Infinity is to return it. That is a lot of money to spend to keep a tablet that could break down the line. I wouldn't take any chances, but that's just me.
Seriously though, does anyone know of any other top end tabs coming out soon? I'm tired of dealing with sh*t quality

[Q] Have my tf700 for about two weeks, screen flex noticed

Hello,
I've bought my infinity two weeks ago and when I unpacked it I had noticed that on the bottom left side of the panel the screen is popping out a little bit, something like screen flex.
Yesterday, I've noticed that the left side of the panel has a flex as well.
I am really annoyed by this, since OK, I've paid a lot of money for this and now I might have to send it for a repair.
I've talked with the asus support in Greece, and the guy told me to submit a form that he would send me via email and a courier would get it from my house and it would be sent to Czech Republic for service and it would be delivered to me in a maximum of ten days.
Should I send it?
Is it really a big problem? (in example, will the whole panel pop out eventually :silly: )
I though of keeping it for some time and if it gets worse, then sending it..
What do you think?
Thank you for your time,
Sorry for the big post..
did you bu it from a store, or online? if from online, send it back to the company and have them send you another. this might be quicker than sending to ASUS.
I bought it from a store in Greece..I called them and they referred me to Asus support in Greece..
Is this screen flexing a big problem or I can leave with it?

They won't
I might keep it for a while..I've stopped noticing it too much..The thing is, if it's something normal that did occur from the manufacturing process then I'm OK with it. I just don't want to end up holding the tablet at one hand and its screen at the other

From what I've read this is very normal for the Infinity. A lot of people have had similar problems with screen flex or even screen separation. Unfortunately most of them when the receive a replacement, the replacement is either the exact same problem or is even worse. So there is definitely something with the Gorilla Glass and their manufacturing process causing this that they haven't ironed out yet.
From what I've read if it's minor then it shouldn't be too big a problem (some people have the Gorilla Glass almost peeling off). I just got mine and notice the screen sticks up slightly above one of the dock connection points on mine, but knowing the problems others have had I'll use mine for a few days to see if it's worth returning.
So while you can certainly return if you want, considering what you paid it's understandable. But just know that the replacement you get is likely to have at least the same problem, and might actually be worse then the one you sent in. Another somewhat common problem is light bleed, which I think I have on mine also.

I've noticed the same across the bottom in mine. It appears exactly where the docking latched are located. I'm no longer going to leave the dock attached. I'll hook it when I really need it then remove and put it aside. I'd say the dock is putting too much strain on the glass. The docking hinge on mine is VERY tight to flip;p open and closed as well

Screen lift?

So I got my 8GB/256GB Pro a couple days ago during the launch event. Next I day i notice that when I press the home screen where the fingerprint is located and the opposite side near the top of the screen I hear as if the glue underneath is not sticking and sounding like the screen is lifting, or some part beneath it is lifting. Anyone else experiencing this? Its rather annoying.
how did you get it at the launch event? i was there, and as far as i'm aware, it wasn't available for purchase there.

i think he went to T mobile store, but that's not the point lol
true, I was just curious. either way, that really doesn't sound like intended behavior, so i would definitely go right back there and exchange it lol

Yea it was at the flagship T-Mobile store in SF. As for the screen sounding like its lifting is only when the phone isn't warm. Its really bad when I wake up in the morning when it hasn't been used as the adhesive has probably cooled. I just hope I can prove it to the rep when I take it for exchange.
So I went back to the store and apparently their floor model is doing the same thing. Some experienced similar issues, I wonder if the first round of batches have these issues with most of them. I didn't exchange it, but it appears this is starting to become a common issue.

yikes, don't get it wet, if the screen is moving that means the seal is bad for sure.
Well they do call it a fluid display ?
No issues here, but I have the unlocked model.
I have the same issue (kind of). In my case it only happens once or twice a day. But it is really annoying. Im planning to use hairdryer and some pressure to strengthen the adhesive. Is that a bad idea? Has anyone got a better solution? I travel a lot and and the country im currently in does not have any Oneplus service. So sending device to service is not an option for me.

I have the exact same problem with my OnePlus 7T Pro. First it was only when I pressed harder, now its nearly every thime I touch that area. I gonna contact OnePlus for RMA.
Add me as another one with the issue. Ordered right after launch directly from OnePlus. Anywhere from 2-3x a day, to as many as 5-6.
I made a Video of the Problem, feel free to use it, if you want to:
https://youtu.be/j9Exg2CUs3Y
I forgot that I canceled the order from the OnePlus-Shop and bought it from Amazon. (faster delivery)
This weekend I sent it back. (it was in the timespan for free retirement of the order, I also told them about the defect)
Now I will wait till I got my money back and order a new one.
I need root and because of that my device wasn't really used till now. I still use my OP5T for daily.
If a "official" Rooting-Solution is out I will order a new OP7TPro.
