I tried installing BAMF 3.0 RC2 on my phone, and I can't seem to get it working properly. Upon startup it force closes a bunch of things and the radio shows no signal at all. I have ran the MD5 on the download to ensure integrity. Also did a complete wipe prior to flashing. Could this be a radio problem? I haven't done any radio upgrades.

You need a gingerbread radio for a gingerbread rom.. so MR2 or MR2.5

when you say everything is the same, do you mean it still has the previous radio version number?
I'd suggest that you both:
1) Wipe data/dalvik/cache and flash back to a froyo ROM where you do have a signal
2) Upgrade from froyo to the MR2/2.5 radio
3) Re-wipe data/dalvik/cache (or even do it twice for good luck ) and re-flash BAMF 3.0
If its worth doing, its worth overdoing, especially when you're messing with radios and the like. Best of luck!
That's the same problem I first had with gingeritis before flashing the correct radio.. if you are still experiencing the problems after the radio flash i would suggest confirming the radio did install by checking the version number..
if it is all correct do as MattBeyers said and wipe and reflash
Thanks, that seemed to work. I still got a couple of force closes but much less than before. Also I can see my radio now! If I wanted to restore my old my Backup (Stock Froyo - MR1), do I restore my backup then flash MR1? If so, does anyone have a link the MR1 image? TIA!
I'm always one to upgrade/downgrade radios before I flash a ROM, so I would say to downgrade to MR1 and then flash the Froyo backup. Also, try going into ROM manager and using the Fix Permissions tool to see if that helps with some of the force closes.

Any reason for flashing one before the other? Reading through several of the ROM threads, it seems like everyone has a preference, but no one explains why.
I tried mr2 and mr2.5 but could only get 3g. Went back to CM7.

I just feel like the radio, being the thing that, well, controls every useful function on the phone, should be installed and present when a new ROM is flashed. I may be wrong, but it would seem logical to me that a new ROM would talk to the radio in order to make sure everything is kosher. But what if that's something that a ROM will only do once, at the first boot, and not once a new radio is flashed? Then, all of a sudden, you have the right radio, but its configured improperly by your ROM, since the ROM has already gone through its initial boot set up with the old radio. Therefore, my theory is radio > ROM (Please note, theory. )
Make sure u have a gb radio mr2 or mr2.5

This makes sense from a logical reason. Perhaps a ROM developer on this site can confirm this.
I'm wanting to know if flashing a new rom can automatically change my RIL's? I know radio does not change unless I purposely flash a new radio, but without using ROM names I'll try to describe my issue and the reason behind my question.
I was using a Sense 3.5 rom for a week with everything working just great. I decided to try a different kernel with that rom and after flashing the new kernel my gps stopped working. OK, reflash the original rom and things are back to working well.
THEN...I decide I want to try CM7 so I flash a CM rom and try it out for a couple days, decide that it's really not going to work for me and go back to original rom with original kernel.
NOW...gps is taking forever to lock, and google nav doesn't lock at all unless I open up a gps app like gps status or chartcross gps test. I flashed cryps AGPS patch for tmous users and it still has this same issue.
Any ideas, opinions, or other solutions are greatly appreciated. I use my navigation a lot and it's a key requirement for my phone so quick gps lock is extremely important for me.

Mostly the rils are replaced by the rom IF the chef puts it in. But more inclined all do.
And yes the ril and radio is essential to have gps working quickly. So you can just match the radio to the ril.
If that doesn't work, compare the rils on an old nandroid and the new rom. I'm going to say that the rils will be different.
And also in my experience, flashing different kernels also affects the gps locks as well. For me bricked and faux kernels always borked my gps. So now I only go with the bundled kernel, because most times, the dev tested out the gps with the kernel before releasing it.
You can always flash the matching radio to the RIL you now have, that should sort you out

Thanks for the answers and suggestions so far. So this is what I've done so far:
- reflashed first rom after doing a factory reset/wipe in ext4 recovery. It used to work well with my signal and my gps using the latest 10.56 TmoUS radio. After trying to get lock for 15 minutes I gave up
- read the RIL thread and flashed the recommended .169 ril for the 10.56 radio and still bad gps, no lock. What's weird is in both the above cases Ucenter gps app finds satellites but google nav and endomondo do not lock, ever. So I know my gps hardware is working but it's just not communicating with any apps.
- I'm going to now try using Superwipe and reinstalling the rom 1 more time, not sure if that will do anything at all but I'm out of ideas. Otherwise I may have to give up on this particular rom even though it used to work well.
And no, the rom does not recommend any particular radio.
Remember to try the rom (with matching ril) without flashing a kernel first.
Basically, the GPS on my Sensation wont find any satellites. I tried OpenSensation and ARHD and the GPS doesn't work on either. I read on Google that someone flashed the appropriate RUU for them and reflashed their custom ROM and the GPS started working again. I was going to do the same but was wondering if I flash the T-Mo ICS RUU, will it lock the bootloader? If so, how would I unlock it again? Also, if anyone has any tips to fix the GPS, any help is appreciated.

RUUs are ideally last choices.
Also, I'm assuming you are HTC Dev unlocked (you need to confirm this), if yes, then did you enable smart flash in 4ext recovery before flashing or flash the boot.img manually?
Try performing a full wipe/format before installing the ROM.
If you are S Off, then try installing 3.32 base firmware
If all of the above fail, use my guide to find & flash the correct RUU: www.tinyurl.com/RUUGuide
I am unlocked through revolutionary, I don't know if that is HTC-Dev, but I doubt it. I don't know about smart flash either, what is it? I full wiped and installed 5 different OpenSensation builds and the T-Mo ARHD version with no GPS on either. I also flashed the 3.32 firmware from the official ICS T-Mo firmware. Radio's too, went from 11.69 to 11.72. I want to flash the RUU to reset all the radios, firmware and such. But I am worried the bootloader will get locked down again.
My plan is to flash the RUU, test the GPS, then restore my clockwork backup of my current ROM and go from there. Would it be easier to just flash a Gingerbread RUU?

Here's what happens after flashing the RUU:
You will lose all data (except data on SD Card)
Your bootloader will be locked, but if you're S Off, you will remain S Off (You can get back to Revolutionary bootloader by flashing 3.32 base firmware from firmware thread.)
You will lose custom recovery if custom recovery is installed (this can be re flashed if you are S Off )
You will lose root if you are rooted. (this can be re done)
I recommend you flash the normal 3.32 base firmware from the firmware thread before flashing RUU.
i used to have the same issue as yours...
i tried this fix ..it works for sensation too
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12764930&postcount=1
i used method 2 to do that ..method 1 failed for me
but be careful when using dd commands..you need to be extremely careful while typing that
also the fix..messes up your splash screen ..but you can easily flash the splash screen again
I tried the wiping thing, but it didn't work, I'm going to flash the RUU. If it doesn't work, it's borked, I guess.
Nothing, I flashed a Gingerbread RUU and the ICS RUU with no change. I am going to take it to T-Mobile in a few days. Any final, shot in the dark, tips?

Yes. Open up the back cover & check if all antennae are making contact. If not, apply aluminium foil. Take a strip, fold it till it's the right size, but ensure it isn't very thick, just a little more than enough to make contact & not tear.
First of all, Hello.
I don't want to make another GPS topic, so i write it down here. The thing is that i bought a used HTC Sensation XE and everything is working great except the GPS. I have read all the sensation threads about fixing the problems with GPS and i think i tried most of them without any luck.
I installed the free GPS apps from Market (GPS Status, GPS Test and the fix named FasterFix). It just won't find any satellites and that's it.
It wont lock on nothing and it wont find nothing.
* At the beginning when i started FasterFix it showed that the conf. is set to America. I live in Europe. So that really made sense, that if i change it to Europe, then it should work because the conf. is just wrong.
I have tried all kinds of fixes (FasterFix, modifying the gps.conf file), tried the Sensation topic named AGPS patch and flashed the gps fix .zip.
Tried all kinds of gps.conf files and putting the right server names in there Europe, Estonia. Tried the wipe and format and reinstalling Locations.
I didnt want to root the phone and use custom ROM, but nothing seemes to help fixing the GPS problem, so in last option i rooted phone, did the S-OFF and all the stuff so its unlocked and tried custom ROM.s. I was fingers crossed and hoped that the ROM change will magically fix my whatever errors with GPS but nothing. I tried :
* [ROM][Sense 4.1][20.01] Team Venom presents: ViperS 1.6.3
* [ROM][CM10][Kang][Pyramid][4.1.2][09 JAN]
Yesterday after i did full wipe and tried the vision wipe fix (Method 1) + Reinstalling Locations. I went outside and started up the GPS, i used AGPS fix configuration file. So i started GPS Status and waited for ~30sec. it magically found 5 sats and after waiting couple minutes or so, it finally locked up and managed to get the right position. I was so happy and thought that i finally fixed it after tried everything in 2 days. So later on that day i went driving with my car and wanted to test the GPS in real. I fired the sucker up and NOTHING. No sats, nothing. And here i am, again searching for help.
I really like this phone and i need to get that god damn GPS working. Please any help is welcome. What else can i try?
Can it really be the GPS unit itself what is defective? Well it found sats and locked up on them yesterday, so i think something has to work but there is some error somewhere.
------------------------------------------------
EDIT:
OOh my god! I managed to FIX my problem! What a relief and of course im telling you how.
My problem was that antenna contacts didn't give a good connection between the housing. I played with the housing and watched the GPS Test software, so if the connection was OK, it automatically detected sats and if i moved the housing again, they disappeared.
I tried the aluminium foil trick and it helped but i didnt much like the idea of some loose foil inside of my phones housing. So i checked up the antenna contacts and tried to figure out what the heck was the problem, because if there was a cap between the housing and phone itself, there was a signal and as soon as i locked the housing to the phone - Baah! nothing, the signal was gone. I opened the housing and took a scalpel. Next i really carefully bended the antenna contacts, so if first they were shaped like "/\" then after the bend they looked like " L ", with that trick applied they now get a good contact with the housing and the GPS is working as it should.
I hope it will help someone, who might have the same problem. The phone is Sensation XE with beats audio.
The easy was is to first try the foil trick, if it helps then you know it's the contacts.
The GPS antenna contacts are located between the camera lens and the battery. At least these contacts worked for me, after the bend.
Hi all,
Did anyone able to use gps with custom rom ( I would say CM base). I research and try everything that's I could find here but not success.
Every time I do clean wipe everything including a internal storage. So that will nothing left behind.
I know that stock is work fine with gps. some said that install and replace stock but I have no idea that what file will left in our device when we delete all.
Always had the same problem when running Paranoid Android (not tried other ROMs). Had to return to stock, where GPS runs fine. Would also love to kknow how people have got it functioning.
I am trying too. I modified gps.conf files, tried some workarounds mentioned in cm11 thread like restoring GPS Status backup from stock with titanium so far with no success. Some people say that it works but it doesn't on mine whatever I do.
I run on CM and I don't have any problem. Everything works fine with gps and I didn't use any fix or something similar.
I'm on CM 11-20140627 and I have 1032 phone.
Interesting, why does it work on some while it doesn't on others? Maybe some variants are having problems...
I have xt1033 asia version.

Which recovery did you use?
CWM
As I wonder is about library missing or some partition need from stock ?
I've also been using the micro gapps package, would this matter?
I had problems with Paranoid Android and GPS too... If anyone know something about that, please comment!

Hey i found a solution, you have do this flash following in this order.
- flash stock 4.4.4 (depend on your current)
- flash cm
- flash gapp
I try this twice and work like a charm.

I am having he same problem on XT1032 running Carbon ROM. GPS worked fine on stock, no signal with Carbon.
I found many answers saying to flash stock and then reflash custom ROM. I will try it, but I wonder, how does this help? Isn't the phone restoring the whole system? Do I have to keep the gps.conf from stock?
I've read in some CM thread on here you need to flash stock ROM then enable GPS and get a lock. Once you've done that then flash your custom rom. Sounds STUPID and dosent make sense I know, but a lot of people say this is how they got it to work.
EDIT: I can confirm. I've just flashed stock 4.4.4 and played around with google maps. Flashed CM11 nightly and my GPS is now working ok

Sorry people, I was so happy to have my phone back working, I forgot to write it back here.
Yes it worked indeed, all I did was flashing back the stock, going outside to have a gps lock with gmaps, then re-flashing back the Carbon. I also kept a copy of the gps.conf, but I never needed it, the GPS got a fix quickly. Working fine so far, it only takes some tens of seconds to fix, from time to time.
I can't remember if I also did all the wiping, I think I didn't, but I made so many trials in a couple days, I am not sure.
Thanks a lot guys!

Yes, this worked for me too on PA.
I couldn't even see a single sat (it wasn't just a lock problem). No matter with gps patch, gpx fix app, or gps.conf I used.
What I did?: Back to stock, lock GPS, flash again the custom ROM (but don't wipe /system!).
Good luck on that guys, it should work for you too.

GPS works fine on this unofficial CM11 rom for me. Stable daily driver rom for me, YMMV.
General advice is to:
- make sure you get a GPS lock on stock rom first
- flash CM11 (or other custom rom)
There may not be a file left on the device. it may just be that stock contains the code to initialize the GPS functionality on the SoC or chipset firmware. Whatever, it works...
Hi I was running venom ROM with no problems and I just switched to sinless last night and today I tried to use GPS and it won't lock on.....I fully wiped before I flashed
If sinless is an aosp ROM that is an issue currently with aosp. From what I've read you can flash a sense ROM, get a GPS lock, and then flash back to sinless. Right now I don't believe there is an actual fix for it.
Edit: I saw its gpe, my bad. From searching in the sinless thread I see there was talks about a gps fix listed in the thread. Idk of its a flashable zip or what, but might be worth checking out.
Thanks and ya I tried that first and it didn't work.....I read that you could flash back to sense too but I was hoping to find a zip that works to flash to save me some trouple
Anyone else have a faster way before I flash like adavit said....and if I do go that route can I just dirty flash each
Don't you have a nandroid of a sense rom? Then you just restore that, get a lock, and then restore back to your gpe rom you're on now.
Thanks I just did that and it worked......the phone was running so smooth didn't want take the chance of messing anything up

In the future, you would probably want to ask a question like this in the thread for whatever ROM you're running. That way anyone else who experienced the same issue can chime in, hopefully with a quick fix. And if it's a new problem, then the dev would become aware of it.
I realize that but I needed to post here BC I can't post until I've sent 10....(just signed up)
