[Q] SIM (Three UK) Forcing Wifi On? - General Topics

I just switched a Three UK SIM into my Nexus 5.
I can no longer keep the wifi off. If I turn the wifi on the phone off, it just turns itself on again after a few seconds.
If I take out the Three SIM and put in my old SIM I can turn off the wifi and it stays off.
I'm posting here because I don't know that this is a Nexus 5 specific problem.
I suppose this could be one way for a carrier to cut back on use of unlimited data, but I've Googled and not seen anyone with the same problem.
Has anyone ever heard of this? Any way to stop the wifi from turning on?

[Q] why would this happen?

yesterday I was at my friend's house where I would get really crappy reception. I decided that I would turn off the data connection and make the phone use only 2g networks to save on some battery life. when I re-enabled 3g networks, my phone would only get edge service. this happened for the rest of night, and even though I figured that it might be a carrier issue, I decided to do some searching on the internet. I tried doing the *#*#4636#*#* thing and turning on only gsm networks and resetting the radio, but nothing seemed to help. finally I found a thread that talked about being on the wrong radio band (I think it's called), so I did the *#*#4636#*#* thing again and put it on the usa band. this actually fixed my problem and i've been getting 3g ever since.
why would enabling only 2g networks or turning off the data connection put the phone on the wrong band? i've found that it happens whenever I enable only 2g networks in the settings menu. anyone know why?
I can't speak for your case, but I know for T-Mobile in America when you switch from edge (2g) to 3g the phone has to actually turn off the data, then turn it back on with the frequencies of the other connection.

that might explain why it went to a different band in the first place, but why would it get stuck on that band even after 3g was turned back on? I even did a hard reset and turned data off and on during the few hours that I was stuck on edge but it did nothing. could it be a carrier problem? I would imagine that the only fix would be to bring it into the carrier's store or call them to get the phone put back on the correct band

[Q] Fast Dormancy Causing Data Issues?

I picked up the Skyrocket roughly a week ago. Using it the first night I noticed the data had shut off but still showed the "4G" sysmbol next to my bars of service. After toggling airplane mode or power cycling the phone it came back on for roughly 5 minutes, screen powered off, I turned it on and I was back to square one again. I have had to run on Wifi 24/7 unless I do the toggle "trick" to get data working again.
I swapped the phone 3 different times (including trying my sim in a demo phone at my at&t store), 3 new sim cards, and multiple calls to tech support which opened a network ticket for me and found no problems. I also tried the HSPA apn settings and a variety of other APN's to try to resolve the issue.
I have always had a 4g phone and have never had an issue with data connectivity.
I took matters into my own hands and did some research. I ran logcat to check my logs and it appears that every time my screen powers off fast dormancy goes haywire and its polled every 5 seconds or so. The only indication of issues I can find has to be when fast dormancy polls in the log and I then notice that data gets shut off.
I tried the dialer code *#9900# to see if I can disable it, but it doesn't work on the Skyrocket, only the normal Galaxy S2.
Does anyone have any ideas? I'm pretty sure this has something to do with Fast Dormancy but I can't figure out how to manually disable it even with doing numerous searches on the net and XDA. Anyone else having these issues?
Thanks in advance!
Is a known issue. Hopefully we get a fix soon from at&t.

[Q] No Sim Card

I have a HTC Sensation XE on Orange UK which is not rooted.
Since I've upgraded the phone from Android 2 to 4.0.3, I've been having an intermittent problem with the signal. On a daily basis, I will lose phone signal completely and quite often, the only way to get the phone signal back is to either turn it on and off Airplane Mode or Restart the phone. Sometimes this will return the phone signal, but sometimes it will remain with no phone signal and sometimes, it comes up with an error saying that I don't have a Sim Card in the phone. Eventually, I do get back the phone signal back but I have to leave it alone for about 10-15 minutes if it gets into the "No Sim Card" loop, otherwise everytime I restart it or put it into Airplane Mode, it comes back with No Sim Card.
This normally happens when I'm using the phone, but has happened when I've had my phone in the pocket. It happens in weak and strong signal areas. It's very random. Factory Reset will often have no affect and it's happened when I've had lots of Apps installed, and when I've only had the Factory Apps installed.
I've sent it back to HTC 3 times. They've returned it with re-installing the software. It works again for about 3-5 days, then the problem starts again.
I keep thinking it's an issue with the Sim Card, but the Sim Card works fine in other phones with no issues of signal. I've tried other Orange Sim cards in the phone and they seem to work, but I've never left it long enough to see if the signal crashes. I've spoken to Orange but they say there's nothing wrong with the Sim Card as it works in other phones.
I've looked all over the internet for a resolution. Seen many people having the issue, but unable to come up with a resolution. I'm a little unsure what to do. Anyone having a similar problem, or any ideas what to do next?

Broken WiFi calling (It stays on)

Vodafone UK sent out the upgrade to Nougat and I was 1st to jump on it. 1 thing I noticed was wifi calling that used to work great on marshmallow is now broken.
It used to switch over if my signal dropped, mainly noticed in supermarkets and Ikea (metal walls) then switch back once I had a couple of bar signal.
Since the upgrade it tends to come on after a while and stay there, I did assume it was due to upgrading without wiping so once I had the time I backed up and reset the phone from recovery, followed the hours adding all my accounts back and sent the text to Vodafone to enable it again, sure enough the option popped up in call settings and I enabled it.
Now I get 4 to 5 bars at home so 80% signal and the bloody thing keeps coming back and staying on, if I reboot the phone it will go again for a while then come back. I can park next to the bloody transmitter with a full signal and it stays on!
Anyone else got this or know of a fix besides turning wifi calling off?
Thanks.

S8+ 4G connection issue turning OFF the phone

Hi all,
I have a Samsung S8+ Europian model. When I turn ON mobile data in 4G Connection the mobile within 5 seconds its turning OFF itself and at the back of the phone its getting warmer. When I leave at 2G only it works perfectly. I have tried hard reset, clear cache and still not working. I tried changing firmwares still the same issue.
Does anyone knows what could be the issue? How can I fix this issue? I tried reading in internet but can't find anywhere this issue or solutions...
Thanks in advance!
Kassi
Kassi, try to use your sim card in other movil phone, and check with another sim card (no too old) in your Samsung. Sometimes the problem is the sim card. It is very extrange, but you could have the motherboard faulty.
