So guys and girls of the forum I finally figured out how to change the lock and unlock sounds and possibly any system sound of our rooted devices I'm using car lock and unlock sounds like I've used on my Motorola Atrix 4g when I was on AT&T with cyanogen mod if anyone would like to know how post here and I'll post a tutorial. I will play around with more sounds but for now the ones I have are entertaining.

First off your phone is rooted and do you use fx explorer or any file explorer of that nature that also has read_write capabilities? I'm going to have to make screenshots real quick.

First - side by side of fx explorer which is why I love this file explorer app shows system root for your rooted device the picture above shows where you can find the lock and unlock sounds when you lock and unlock your device.
Under system(root)_media_audio_ui
Second - Google any type of lock unlock sound. I used car lock and unlock sounds download your sounds and they'll be in the downloads folder.
Third - open your file explore and make sure the file explorer app you have has read_write capabilities as it's necessary to rewrite the system sounds, but you shouldn't need to it works for me that I didn't I'll explain that later if requested want to do simple tutorial first.
Fourth - if your file explorer has split view it'll be allot easier for you to do. Fx explorer is great for that. So now that you have your sounds downloaded and in the downloads folder as pictured below
(Keep in mind I had renamed my sounds already.)
If you'd like to rename your system lock and unlock sounds by adding .bak after .ogg (this is where rewrite permissions come in) you can do that but doesn't need to be done as per you. Go ahead and rewrite the name with .bak after .ogg. (deleting .bak will restore old sound) After you completed that go ahead and move the renamed sounds from the system audio ui folder to the downloads folder I used this method (again needs rewrite permissions to move system sounds out of the system folder)
Fifth - take your new sounds that have been downloaded and then move both to the system audio ui folder. Then find them in the ui audio folder and rewrite the name as the original you moved to your downloads folder example my downloaded sound was car_unlock.mp3 so just rename it unlock.ogg and same for your lock sound would renamed to lock.ogg
Sixth - close all Windows and reboot your device. After it restarts everything should work. If you want to use the original lock unlock sounds again delete the ones you downloaded and renamed from the system audio ui and just cut and move the originals that you moved to the downloads folder and make sure they are renamed lock.ogg and unlock.ogg.
Hopefully all works well and you now have your very own custom lock and unlock sounds. I will also post a video of my outcome. And this is not having a third party launcher app all original ui.

You may not have to with a bootanimation, but I always do. After pasting these into the right directory and changing their names accordingly with a root file explorer (like root browser or root explorer), long press on the files and choose permissions. Set permissions to RW R R (like the other files in this directory)

hmm. the audio worked ok for me. My guess is it's due to your CM7 variant not supporting boot sounds. @febycv's cm7 flashable zip from his thread also wrote 4 files to /system/bin/ (bootsoundtoggle, enablebootsound, newbootanim, and newbootsound). You may want to try putting the files from /system/bin in that .zip to /system/bin on your device and trying again, but I can't tell you for sure as I usually roll with Sense
Files (unzip, put in /system/bin/, and fix permissions)

depends on your ROM. some are /system/customize/resources some are /data/local/
You need to find where your default animation is and put it there

I don't remember if Astro has root access or not. I use Root Browser. You need something that can mount /system/ and/or /data/ as R/W and paste it to the right folder. I think on CM7 it's /data/local/

i have no idea what animation you downloaded. If you downloaded mine it is not a flashable .zip. If you downloaded one from the OP they are flashable .zips. Mine needs to be manually pasted to where your bootanimation is currently stored on your device (/data/local/) with a file manager that has root access.
So after deodexing the nexus 4 system dump(which i grabbed from androidtaskforce ) and trying various combinations of apps to work(was really a tiresome job).
I present the following:
1.Google Earth
2.Email(not gmail)
3.Play Store
4.Voice Search for Play Store
Update:The updated zip now contains these extra apps:
5.Quick office v5.7.2
6.Play music
7.Play Magzine
8.Play books
The install instruction remain the same copy files from app and lib folder to system/app and system/lib respectively and normally install the other apks.
Updated link:http://db.tt/dHoqZy1W
Mirror:https://www.box.com/shared/6estem5qv1r96fi0g4c0
Separate google earth zip:http://db.tt/wTIB9QPs use this if you want only google earth the procedure is the same install the apk manually and copy the lib file to system/lib and set permission.
So to get this fun on your phone
1.Download and extract the zip.
Note: This is not a flashable zip so don't go flashing this in any recovery.Just extract this zip.I'll upload a flashable zip later as i've to leave for coll now.
2.Copy all the files in app folder to system/app folder and set the permission to 644(rw-r--r--)
Note:to see how to change permission see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33585486
3.Similarly Copy all files in lib folder to system/lib folder and set the permission to 644(rw-r--r--)
4.Simply install the GoogleEarth.apk and Phonesky.apk( don't copy them to system/app just click on them and install normally).
5.Reboot your phone and enjoy!!!!!
Hit thanks if you like this!!
Note: If you get some error in these do a cache+dalvic wipe. That should fix it.

You've to be rooted to set the permissions. Then you must have some file explorer that allows you access to root(Root Explorer,ES File Explorer,Solid explorer)
Then when you've copied the file in proper place (assuming you're using root explorer)touch and hold on that file name a menu will pop up.Select set permission from there and then set the permission to 644(rx-r--r--)
In short your permission window should look like this
**-
*--
*--
* denotes tick
- denotes untick..
Hope that gets it cleared for everyone!!!!

Dear all master in here,
I wanna ask something, I wanted to make small modification to my systemui.apk.. I saw my friend running his phone (thunderbolt) changing the signal icon from 1x into 4G.. I wanted to do it on my shift, so I can bragged around even I didn't have a 4G access.. just for fun you know..
I tried to only rename the icon name but it seems too much to rename and I can't pick it up one by one..
If the only way is to rename it one by one, can somebody tell me which file I need to change..?
I wanted my wifi signal symbol became 4G signal symbol..
Sent from my PG06100 using Tapatalk 2
Try this if you use 7zip. copy your apk into an empty folder. right click it and chose "extract here". When it opens up go into res/drawable-hdpi. In here you can change the icons but don't change the names. Give the one you want to use the name of the one in use and delete the old one. You might have to do this in the framework-res apk too. And the com.htc.resources apk if on sense. To zip it back up, highlight the parts of the apk you want to zip and right click. Using 7zip, left click "add to archive..." then rename it systemUI.apk instead of systemUI.zip and click ok.
Ok, then the only way is to change it manually,
Could you tell me sir which file i should replace inside the systemui.apk..? I wanted to use newRunny for this, as I found out it quiet stable for me, beside the calendar widget and 4G..

There are so many ways to do this. Here is another
Basically all you have to do is open the apk with 7zip and drag the res folder to desktop, look for what the image name of the wifi indicators are. already have all your 4G images on the desktop and rename them to what the wifi images are, drag them back into the res folder you pulled from the apk. Overwrite the wifi images and drag it back into the apk.
Or another
Decompile the apk. Find images you would like to replace and name the new images the same as the ones you want to replac, put the new images in the decompiled apk. Then recompile and resign if needed.
Ok then.. I thought there is another way to do it. My friends told me some site that can manipulate systemui.apk,, but there is no choice to edit systemui.apk for evo shift.. only for some newer device like thunderbolt, sensation, evo lte..
BTW I'll try your way sir.. I'll posted the result.. thanks

System apk's & jar's need to preserve the signatures they have on them(or have signatures that match the rest of the system), that is more then likely why you had trouble before with framework-res.
Some of the methods mentioned above are ways to add the files you changed back into the original apks/jars, which keeps the signatures in tact.

Hey Community,
I found this bootanimation for the M7:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2248740
I didn't find that one for our device, so I modified the one from the above thread to match the M8 specs. I attach it to this post.
Just use any root explorer to copy it to your ROMs bootanimation location and dont forget to set permissions!
It might be necessary to rename it, just name it like your ROMs current bootanimation.
Robot sequence is looping until booted.

The bootanimation location can be different, depends on the ROM. Just use any root explorer to copy it to your ROMs bootanimation location and set the permissions. I use InsertCoin, the location is /system/customize/resource. Permissions are rw-r--r-- (644).

Yes you can, make sure you don't compress the new zip otherwise you won't see anything at boot. Have fun!

There seems to be a bit of confusion on how to get boot animations to work on our devices, S4 guys had this same issue.
Go HERE for other bootanimations. You must extract the files from their downloadable zips and either use method 1 or 2 to install. If using method 1, replace the files in the /system/media/ folder of the flashable zip.
Android L - Method 1 (requires SafeStrap):
1. DOWNLOAD this ZIP
2. Flash in Safestrap
3. Reboot
Method 2 (requires only root)
1. DOWNLOAD this ZIP file and extract the files from it.
2. Place files on internal storage or SDcard
3. Use a root explorer or root file manager app to navigate to /system/media/
I use File Manager because it will easily complete step 64. I would recommend renaming the current files by putting an OLD in front of them, such as (OLDbootsamsung.qmg). (Optional)
5. Once you are done with step 4, place the files into /system/media/
6. Here's the important part: You must be in root mode and change the permissions of each of the 3 files.
7. Once you are able to change permissions, make sure all files permissions look like this below or it will not work and things can screw up.

Now REBOOT and please enjoy. Leave Thanks or if things don't work out please leave feedback.

A little thanks to @Misterxtc as well
Worked great. Thanks!
Use this as a template and download others from here and give thanks to the OP for the files. I have included the Android L animation from above in this file. Just replace the .qmq files in the system/media folder for something different, also include the PowerOn.ogg in the system/media/audio/ui folder if it's included in the animation for the start up sound.

No problem but I just updated the zip because I had the poweron.ogg in the wrong directory. You will have to update your link.
EDIT: FYI the zip file sets permissions too.

That's fine. I updated my quote so that will be accurate but I actually want the L Bootanim to be sound-free. But I will add an option in the OP to download a with-sound version.
Edit, I don't see poweron.ogg anywhere in your zip...?

There is no sound in the zip, just a option to put the file in there.

Alliance uses a different boot animation that uses a zip file. The ones posted here are the type you need. You will be replacing the bootanimation.zip in the system/media folder with these type of files. They will have to be renamed to bootanimation.zip for them to work. Just to be safe rename your original instead of deleting it.

No they are a different format all together. Compare your bootanimation.zip with those and you will see. There are others than I posted, all you have to do is search for them and make sure they are the same format as your original.

I've been stuck on the Olympic tribute for quite a while now. I love the flashing colors, lol. I like the Android L a lot too, it's pretty wild.
This is great, thank you. Working fine on AT&T rooted galaxy s5
