Best screen protector for HTC one mini - HTC One Mini

I always wanted to know, why would one want to use a screen protector? Seriously, it is practically impossible to scratch any modern phone's screen by accident without use of special tools and excessive force.
The best screen protector is the material manufacturer used for the screen during production.

Gorilla Glass uses great marketing, but their screens are far from scratch proof. These screens get scratched all the time - especially when placed face down on a rough surface or in a purse with keys. But the screen protectors offer an added layer of protection against shattering if the phone is dropped. Considering that it adds a nearly invisible layer of protection for about $15, it's kind of a no-brainer.
As for which is the best? I have no idea. Just avoid the cheap ones that come in 3-packs. They are nothing more than clear plastic that gets scratched and must be thrown away. Get something with self healing properties or tempered glass. But I've never understood why that's so popular these days. Covering scratch resistant glass with scratch resistant glass doesn't seem like a solution.

Screen protectors? Gorilla glass?

A long time ago I saw news for this phone that it uses gorilla glass.. is it true?
Because I just got the phone and the screen protector on it sucks. Thick, a bit fuzzy, and makes it less sensitive. I am seriously tempted to pull it off right now.
Has anyone gone without screen protectors? and how are your screens?
Gorilla glass or not, it's still wise to put a layer of protection on the display. It is scratch resistant but not scratch proof.
Am using a matte, anti-fingerprint screen protector and have no problem with screen sensitivity.

i would say yes
Last year while skiing I fell tearing open my jacket and spilling my HTC Hero onto the slope (unannounced to me) where it slid down the piste face down until a kindly Spaniard found it and returned it to me.
The body itself all around the screen had been ground away, but the entirely unprotected screen was utterly untouched.
Within moments of getting my Desire S up and running I had it knocked out of my hand by a friendly dog, it landed face down in gravel. Once again there was not a mark on it.
The only time I should have used a screen protector was on my old P800 with its soft resistive screen.
The moral of the story, screen protectors for capacitive screens are the biggest con in the world. Just don't keep your phone in a bag full of diamonds or anything.

or sand for that matter. sand is tougher than gorilla glass and it WILL scrach your screen. id actually say you are lucky that your desire s was ok after that gravel fall

Out of interest which protector are you using?
wow, that post and story makes me want to rip the screen protector off even more. other than seeing a lot of cracked screens, i havent really heard off scratched htc screens.
videos like this help too:
http://techielobang.com/blog/2009/1...-test-for-htc-hd2-feel-the-pain-video-within/
but i guess it's this paranoia.. one scratch will ruin it forever..
i disagree, i was realy carefull not to sscratch my phone around the house why i was waiting for my screen protector off ebay, but ive ended up with a hairline scratch on the screen. You can only see it at certain angles and when a protector on you cant see it but i would recomend a screen protector to keep it safe as the smallest thing can ruin it.
I'm a nudist. Trusted Gorilla Glass on my previous Nokia C6-01. And trusting it on the Desire S. I don't have a protector case either.
When I moved from resistive touch sensors (Windows Mobile) to capacitive (HTC Hero), I stopped using screen protectors. Well, it turns out that the screen doesn't scratch badly, it's very tough, but after months using it hairline scratches do appear, although they are only visible with the light at certain angle.
So I once again I use screen protectors. This way when it's time to sell my current device to get a new one, the screen is 100% perfect. And I don't worry much if I have to clean the screen with my shirt.
I just bought invisiblesheild from zagg.com. I also got a 25% voucher if anyone wants it? not sure if it includes all items in store
however the contact actually covers the camera and sensor/light which does worry me a bit. I was given a chinese brand one which had a dip so the film didnt cover the camera. but it was crap, but the design was better

Totally with you on the protector case as well. Why buy a beautiful slim phone and then make it fat and ugly by fitting a case?
That said, I have ordered a case but intend to treat it like a condom and only put it on when I need it.
That way, next time I try to impress a girl by falling face first down a mountain, my phone at least will remain unblemished.
C'mon people, liberate yourselves, take it all off! Your phone is a beautiful thing, don't hide it away!
Buy a sock... or some small bag. I don't really see any reason to have it packed when you are using it (if you are not playing sports with it).

I find that the best advice for phone protection is simply not to use the device when you had a few beers (or several!)
I have two scratches on the outside of my desire s and both are caused by drinking related accidents! I see a direct correlation between phone damage and UK bank holidays !
Luckily the curved raised lower lip of this phone means that when dropped you have to be quite unlucky to scratch its face!
it sure has gorilla glass as you can find in the official site of gorilla glass

Just a generic matte screen protector
i found a test about the hardness of the screen on mp3 players i think it may be useful as i have seen many people asking if a screen protector is required
http://anythingbutipod.com/2009/04/glass-screen-durability-test-a-lesson-on-the-mohs-hardness-scale/
i myself use a screen protector as i am scared that sand may scratch it...
but mine does not reduce the touch sensitivity or the clearness of the screen but it seems to be a fingerprint magnet...
iv seen a hammer and a knife ....
ITS ALLMOST UNBREAKABLE Gorilla glass.
search youtube .... its there.

lol I went without screen protectors for a couple for weeks. was very happy, the screen looked vibrant and sharp.
but lo and behold! today I found a tiny scratch. Probably my own stupid mistake, I put it in my bag without the case, even though i had a case for it in the bag.
but it's ok though. Not really obvious unless you try to look for it. when the screen is lit up, its pretty much nonexistent. Plus.. electronic objects will go out of date someday right

Niilken 9H+ tempered glass protector

Just received Niilken 9H+ tempered glass screen protector from www.cbay.co.nz
Handful of cleaning agents included with the protector.
1. Wet cleaning cloth
2. Dry cleaning cloth
3. Adhesive film to remove dust
4. Wiping cloth
5. Extra stickers to hold the protector without directly touching
Unfortunately, the one I received did not fully adhere to the screen. There were gaps all around the protector border, and refused to set properly even after firmly pressing it down.
It did not affect s-pen functionality nor front camera, but it could have been better.
Overall, otherwise looks good and does its job as one of the first tempered glass protectors for note 4.

Wrong forum thread. The reason the glass does not fit properly is because of the 2.5D screen shape at the edges.

He's quite right, on both counts.
The phone's screen curves almost imperceptibly before it gets to the "obvious" curve at the edge of the screen. Most (all current?) tempered glass protectors are perfectly flat on the backside - this doesn't adhere properly at the edges because the phone's screen curves away.
The threads in the accessories section have covered this in quite some detail. Some manufacturers are busy trying to design a glass protector that both adheres properly and is easy to apply.

You are right, I actually misread that as 2.5D for screen protector. I am aware of the screen curvature starting within the viewing screen.
Thank you though.

iloome is currently the only company who is making a Note 4 tempered glass screen protector that is designed to fit OVER the 2.5D curved edges,
All other pieces will either stop short of the curve or will have issues adhering.
Why bother, it's gorilla glass 3 right? Pretty scratch resistant as it is. I never used anything on my LG G3 and its scratch free. Or my G Pro 2. Never had an issue. The GG3 glass is good enough I think to use without anything and it looks so much better as a result.

"Pretty scratch resistant" isn't "completely immune to scratches". The point being that if you cover your phone with a protector no matter what happens (short of a drop/stanley knife) you're quite literally covered. Having a decent screen protector, glass or not, along with a case means you can throw your phone into a pocket with a bunch of keys with little regard to how your phone will fare.
I'd much rather have to replace a £5-15 protector than realise at some point that there's a scratch on the actual glass on my screen. You can't go back from that - you can replace protectors easily. People have different usage profiles, just because your 3 phones are scratch free, doesn't mean that others won't want to protect theirs.

I always thought the same, but afraid to try it.... anybody else not use any protection and not get scratches?
Your right I have friends that are tradesmen, and I wouldn't go without a screen protector if I was them. I wouldn't go with a high even phone either.
But in my case my G3 / Note 4 is in my pocket and just my phone alone. Maybe that's why. I don't put my phone inside with coins or keys. That's asking for trouble

One of the reviewers Note 4s screen got scratched during use after a few days(can't remember which site it way). I also remember seeing a video where Gorilla Glass gets microscopic scratches without a protector and these scratches make the whole structure weaker and more prone to shatter when dropped.

Screen Protector or not?

I don't know if it neccessary to buy screen protector because N9 is built in Glorilla Glass 3.

Depends on how you'll be carrying the screen around with you.
If it's just a stay at home tablet, theres no real point, unless youre the type that likes to use your screen as a coaster or like to put other things on top of it.
If your carrying it around in a backpack, bag, or by hand, or throwing it on your carseat, then you're probably better off using case, cover, or sleeve for it. At this point, a screen protector will be redundant.
It's not like you're going to be carrying this thing in your pocket or anything where it might get scratched. I would say get a screen protector only if you hate the idea of having to use a case or cover.

Im definitely putting a screen protector on immediately. Even if you use the tablet exclusively at home it can still get scratched. I had a piece of what looked like glitter on my n5 when i went to wipe it off it scratched the screen. I bought a 3 pack made by mr. Shield on amazon for 4 dollars to hold me off until I can get my hands on a good tempered glass protector. Once you have tempered glass on you cant even tell there is a screen protector, and youll never have to worry about scratches. Plus, tempered glass will add protection in case of a drop. Its a no brainer for me. Screen protectors all the way.

Ya, gorilla glass 3 prevents scratches from keys and such, but small stuff like lint or whatever that shiny little glitter piece was will scratch the hell outta it.
Not me, I've never put a screen protector on a tablet and don't plan on starting now.
I've had a Nexus 5 (also gorilla glass 3) in my pocket without any screen protection. Not a scratch on it. I'm going to buy a cover for when I carry the Nexus 9 but no screen protector.
I would say probably no need. I'm not using a screen protector on my nexus 7, and it's quite alright. (I have a case on it) but I never take it out of my house, nor really ever out of the living room. It all depends on what you are going to be using the thing for, though.
If it will put your mind at ease, I would recommend a glass screen protector, maybe from zagg, or a good plastic one, like from amfilm.
But like I said, I don't really use a screen protector on my tablet, and I dont really think that it is necessary for me.
I'm using an amfilm screen protector. Cheap, effective, and not noticeable at all.
I never use one on any device, for me it ruins the experience. Won't be getting one for my N9

I always use screen protectors on my phones because despite what people tell you about gorilla glass eleventy-billion, it can and most likely will scratch from pocket carry. It is amazing how effective little bits of sand can be at scuffing up glass.
That said, for tablets I usually have some sort of case so I dont use screen protectors on them.
My N10 never saw a protector and the screen is still in top condition.... so I won't start using protectors now... IMHO the whole screen protector business is a scam. Or for careless people.
Gorilla glass 3 can scratch. I saw a Samsung rep who kept his note 3 in his pocket with keys and everything (his work phone he didn't care for) and the screen was badly scratched.
When it comes to glass screen protectors, why not get one as a bit of security and piece of mind? It'll cost less than a 10th of the device and arguably offer some protection of the most important part?
Glass screen protectors can be installed with 0 bubbles which make them near invisible. Plastic screen protectors are **** though and difficult to apply without bubbles and are often grippy, making for a painful experience. I would rather go naked than use a plastic screen protector.
If you keep it in the house with no kids then you probably don't need one though.
I already ordered a tempered glass for mine. I know I'll take it to the beach to read from and things like that.
Plus I like the drop protection that the tempered glass will give it.

May I ask what was the product? I can't seem to find it for Nexus 9 (just previous models)...

Is a Screen Protector Really Necessary?

I just removed my screen protector. I've forgotten how nice the front glass feels.
I'm this day and age of gorilla glass, is a screen protector really necessary? Do you use one?
Yes, i used the phone naked for 2-3 weeks, was super careful and still got microscratches all over the screen - so no don't do it.
Gorilla Glass 5 scratches like crazy. I've not used a screen protector since 2008 and yet I somehow have a scratch on my display. All of the flagships use Gorilla Glass 5 and all of them have problems with scratches and the glass breaking so get a good case too.
screen protector is a must trust me
gorilla glass 5 has lower scratch resistance than 4 and 4 has lower than 3
they exchanged impact protection for scratch protection
and they failed at both of them XD
Yes I was using the HTC wallet case and managed to get a hairline scratch. It is only visible at certain angles in certain light with the screen off but that does not matter. Once you know its there it's over lol.
I just can't bring myself to use a screen protector.
I use cases when I'm away from home but these come off at home....& certainly no screen saver.
Heh. I got a scratch on one of my phones!
Still...I just can't do it. I want to feel the phone.
I've been using mine since the Solar Red that I got was released .. and I've had no scratches on the screen and I have a thin shell case on it just to prevent scratches on the back and for a bit more grip when holding it. I've had no issues at all. I also don't put it in my pocket with keys, coins or anything else. I seriously hate screen protectors.
So I vote no on the necessity of plastic on the screen.
I don't use a screen protector with my U11 at all. First time in 15 android phones I've been able to do this. My screen is nearly scratch free after over a year of careless use, drops, keys, etc.
The gorilla glass on this one is super strong.

Accessories Does the X3 Pro need a tempered glass?

I kinda want to get mine removed cuz the fit is weird (sides are not fully covered) and just use it as it is. Is it fine or will it get easily scratched?

gorilla glass is an extremely shatter/scratch resistant glass.... I've had htc e8, redmi 5+ fell from at least 1m, they were still good, for my xiaomi phones i usually use the included case for added protection.... you can also use flip cases which will protect the whole phone... there are very nice flip/wallet cases for pocox3...
anyway...here's a picture of my screen after 4-5 months of usage without any screen protector.. no scratches yet, ignore the dust... your experience may vary xD
Anyone else using phone without protection glass, is it smooth without it ?
Factory protection is plastic, if I remember correctly. It gives pretty bad feel. Uncovered screen is smooth and nice to touch.
I just use the ringke fusionx camo case, no tempered glass. Tempered glass is kind of gimmicky, I never would use a cheapo $2 to $5 screen protection. As I paid for gorilla glass 6 and also love it's clarity and feel which no cheap tempered glass can provide me. Anyways, gorilla glass is quite tough and I use my phone carefully like a gentleman! I even use the ringke camp case because I like its look, and also it is military grade certified. Moreover, we use our phone for 2-5years only, after that is just a sandwich! So, why not use it in its true glory!
is up to personal preference to get protector or not
i use hydrogel protector, i have a bulky casing already so yea...
Thanks for the input, I removed my tempered glass now and it looks and feels better. Another question is how do you guys clean your screen? Do you guys use alcohol/water?
Never use alcohol to clean phone lcd screens, it can damage oleophobic coating.
And yes i agree the factory screen protector that comes with this phone is utter trash, remove it ASAP. Phone feels much better without it, both in terms of display quality and just general touch feel. If this is really Gorilla Glass then you shouldn't worry too much about scratching it. (i wouldn't trust Xiaomi on anything though lol)

Thank god it doesn't make your semen go in reverse.
And it does yours? Good for you!
Now, let's get bact to the topic at hand, or you feel too childish to let this one go?
Also, to be on track... yes, every phone should have a tempered glass protection. Why? Well you can scratch any type of glass, be it with keys, a knife or any other piece of one's EDC carry stuff. I'd rather tempered glass gets scratched, instead of phone screen. Common sense, really. Using something that costs 2$ to protect something costing near 300$...
the question is absurd: Of course every mobile that is in use needs a display protection ...
I dont use one (and yes i removed the factory protection aswell) for over a year now and there isnt a one scratch on a screen. And mind you i use it mostly for road bike navigation outdoors - public roads, woods, mud and so on it's not just laying on a desk. You have top notch Gorilla Glass protection and it works, why replace it with cheap poor quality $2 piece of plastic with poor feel which also distorts the screen colors and possibly touch inputs?
But whatever floats your boat.
For me, the only advantage of a screen protector is that I can replace it within a few minutes once the oleophobic coating is gone. I find it disgusting to constantly have a greasy film on the glass. I use book cases with every phone, so scratching the display can actually be almost ruled out
Same here: flip case with screen protector.... i don´t use cheap quality rather the opposite and - thats most interesting for me - mat protection without refections... positive side effect: if you want to sell the device later, it has no scratches if you had been careful For me it would be horrible if there was a scratch on the screen...
