NOTE: The rooting method may have the potential to BRICK the phone and will void your warranty, so do it at your own RISK. I am not responsible for any problems caused by this guide..
I recently bought a Yuntab P500 PDA Smartphone 5 inch Screen Android. Here are its main features:
CPU: Qualcomm MSM7227a 1.0GHz / Adreno 200 GPU.
Display: 5.0 inch Mulititouch screen, 800 x 480px.
OS: Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
Memory: 512MB RAM 8GB ROM.
Camera: Dual Cameras Back: 5MP, Front: 0.3MP.
Bluetooth 2.1 +EDR, Bluetooth stereo (A2DP).
I am very pleased with the phone but still wanted to root it. However, I found it is very hard to root the phone because there is lacking of information of it on the Internet.
Its driver files are included on the phone internal rom with a folder called 'android4.0_usb_driver_32bit'. Once you connect the phone with USB Debugging enabled, you will see a new CD drive, double click it and copy the whole folder to your computer.
However, Its driver is not working on my Windows 7 64 bit laptop, so I had to try my XP one and it took a while to install all drivers. Then I followed this instruction to try Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry, I got the message to say the phone was rooted but it was not working at all.
Luckily, I found Karbonn A15 is similar to Yuntab P500, so followed ntstatic's instruction to have another try.
I followed the following steps to use Android Root Unlock, DON'T try anything else including A15 driver, it may BRICK your phone!
1. Enable USB Debugging - Under SETTINGS - DEVELOPER OPTIONS
2. Install the drivers for the phone - copy drivers from your phone internal card.
3. download "Android Root Unlock" from sourceforge.net and extract it to a folder on your harddisk
4. navigate to the above folder and run the batch file ICS_Root_Unlocker.bat
the batch file will reboot your phone a couple of times and will wait with a message "Press Any Key to continue"
IMP NOTE : if you pc is saying "PRESS ANY KEY" note if your phone is on or rebooting....
if it is Rebooting, wait for it to start before pressing a key
5. After a couple of boots the phone will be rooted
6. verify that the Root is complete by observing a "Superuser" shortcut in the application list
Thanks for that guide, now my phone has been rooted successfully.
I hope this will help people like me. Good luck.
I got the ROM from a Chinese guy. I haven't tried them yet, so flash them at your OWN RISK as well.

Thank you for all the work you've put into this project. Unfortunately for me, I am unable to root my Yuntab aka Cobalt SP500. When running the batch file, I received the following: failed, failed, failed after every Press Any Key to Continue message. Now, I am using Windows 7 under the 64-bit architecture. Is this possibly the reason?

Yes, to root Yuntab P500, you will have to use XP 32-bit.
have a p500, has dated rom post published here, such as making backup?
thanks
have yuntab p500 usb otg?
thanks for this, sadly this method doesn't works from me.
searching I found a alternative, I tell about a site that posted a solution that I tested on my p500 and worked:
http://isytec.net/manual-video-root-yuntab-p500/
the bad thing is that the root program that it puts appears to be chinesse.... the right button is "OK" and from program can configure if allows or deny (all in chinesse) but works well

Thanks but this is the same rom as linked in post 1. It is Android 4.0.4 ICS.
Another question: How can I install the Google Playstore on the phone. Playstore app is not installed in stockrom. Thanks.
ROOT & Playstore
Hi,
I have to add that I bought the Yuntab P500 on AliExpress for 70 USD. This is definetly the best low budget smartphone I ever had. The build quality is not like a Samsung's but it's OK. It has a big 5 inch screen :good: with a small viewing angle . It runs not bad with the 1 GHz single-core-CPU and 512 MB RAM . It has 8 GB ROM and the fast WCDMA :good:. The battery seems to be very good :victory:. I think it is not easy to find a device which is similar good for this price.
But unfortunately the Android 4.0.4 ICS system is not rooted and does not have Google Playstore installed .
Solution:
======
1. ROOT:
On the phone storage or in the firmware downloads (see the links in this thread) you find the Windows drivers in the folder "android4.0_usb_driver_32bit". These drivers work excellent on my Windows 7 32bit computer. Connecting the P500 with drivers installed it gives me 3 entries in the device manager (Android phone + Qualcomm COM-port + Qualcomm modem):
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
For rooting the P500 I tried the above mentioned "ICS Root Unlocker 1.0" and "RomasterSetup_3_2_8". But there was no success. But after that I was successfully rooting with "Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v31" from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460
2. GOOGLE PLAYSTORE:
As the "GoogleServicesFramework.apk" is already installed on the P500, I only downloaded a "MarketUpdater.apk" and a "Vending.apk" from the web. I put my "RootExplorer.apk" and the "MarketUpdater.apk" + "Vending.apk" to the internal storage. After installing RootExplorer I copied "MarketUpdater.apk" + "Vending.apk" into system/app and gave the same attributes to them just like the other apps have. After that I installed the "Vending.apk" and rebootet the P500. Playstore is working fine now - there was not any app that I could not find.
Have fun with this nice phone !
Summary to the P500: I you can root and install the playstore or if you have somebody to do this for you, this phone is a great deal for 70 USD. Earlier I had a 4-inch-phone with a Spreadtrum SC6820 SOC without WCDMA and a faked Android 4 for 50 USD, which was a bad Android phone. After that I had an 4-inch MTK6572 device without WCDMA and only 256RAM/512ROM and Android 4.2 for 60 USD which was better but to weak with RAM and ROM. And now I have the P500 for 70 USD. Here everything sticks together very fine to be a good smartphone which is worth each cent. So if you want a cheap phone and you see the P500 for this price, don't hesitate to buy.

I recently got my YunTab P500, but the primary camera is not working. When starting any Camera-App I always get the commonly known "Can't connect to Camera"-Error. I think I tried nearly every solution one could imagine:
- do ota-update
- do bin update
- empty camera cache
- install alternate camera applications
- factory reset
- empty cache via factory recovery
- set permissions for the camera-app
- use JB-Camera and change cameras (though this worked: after restarting the camera app, I got the video-phone-camera)
So far nothing worked for me. I think the most simple solution would be, to send in the mobile and get my money back. Sadly the seller doesn't answer my support requests - I think he's gone.
I think asking here is my last chance to find someone to help me. Estimating this is no hardware-bug I think theres only one solution:
The installed kernel doesn't come with the proper instructions for the camera. This would be a proper explanation, if the Bin-Update doesn't come with the kernel image (which I dont know).
You, freegoat, mention not to use anything from a15/W719 roms. Did you try that or is it only a general suggestion? If you tried: What was the result? Because in the a15-Thread they've got boot.img (which as far as I know usually includes the kernel)...
Thank you for your help,
Boredland

Here is a step by step method for to root the Zen ultrafone 701HD.
I've Tested it on my own Phone....It Works..
This is just a compilation of the resources already available on various threads in XDA..
All credits to the original developers...
I take DO NOT responsibility for any damages - It worked on my phone, no reason it should
not work on the other 701HDs out there..
STEP 1 - ACTIVATE DEVELOPER OPTIONS ON YOUR PHONE:-
Go to the Settings menu
Scroll down and tap on the About Phone button
Scroll down until you see Build number and tap on that repeatedly
After tapping the Build number button a few times it says " you are now a developer!"
You have successfully activated Developer Options.
Now go to developer options and activate USB Debugging
STEP 2 - INSTALL PHONE DRIVERS
Connect your phone to your computer via USB.
Go to control panel -> device manager after a few minutes
Right click on Zen Ultrafone and update drivers ... required drivers are attached below.
Your device manager should not normally have any unrecognized hardware after this step. ( see attached Image).
The"Android Composite ADB Interface" MUST be listed by now... if not recheck your steps again.
Disconnect and restart your phone and your computer and make sure it stays that way.
STEP 3 - TIME TO ROOT!!
Extract the files in the archive Zen 701HD.rar in any place convenient.
Open the extracted folder.
Right click on the file Run.bat and choose "Run As Administrator"
Connect your phone Via USB now if not yet connected.
Follow the on screen instructions... (next to none.. so not explained)
Do NOT disconnect your phone during the process
Enjoy your Rooted phone!!
[UPDATE]
My friends have confirmed that this rooting method is working on Micromax a116 and Xolo q800...
I have successfully ported CWM touch for the 701HD......
Need help making ROMs...
Will post the CWM with a short tutorial ....
Hey people... instead of viewing the posts as a Mute spectator, you could atleast register and give SOME feedback please!!
OP, nice job helping people out there. But, it's Q&A section and it's likely that people will be more helped if you make that guide in Miscellaneous Android Development Section.
More people will find it there because they will look for it there only.
Just request a mod to move the guide in that section. :victory:

Here is another guide - Root Zen Ultrafone 701 HD
Essentially same ...... Even the attached files are identical!!! With the batch file showing changes made by me what a great co-incidence!!!!
Darn it
Don't know why zen guys want to tarnish the already almost non existent reputation of theirs.
Impressed by my phone a friend ordered the 701 HD and it turns out defective. the same dreaded line on display !
Somehow even my reputation is at stake now among friends

I have compiled paranoid for Xperia Neo v

and I founded a team named TEAMCOOPER a developing team for Galaxy Ace ..
Themed many things
Wrote up a tutorial to Theme your statusbar and to make a draw9patch

I've had a similar problem with Windows 8.1 its the culprit! No drivers are working on Windows 8.1 for our devices so try with less than Windows 8.1 it will work
and the next version of root exploit will contain framaroot!

Thanks man, this is great. I was desperately in need of this. Will try this over the weekend and let you know if i have any issues.
Looks like you have completed the rooting on your phone, any tips on steps to optimize the phone after the rooting. Its pretty laggy for a 1.2Ghz quad core processor, not sure why? I am planning to remove all the bloatware, and see if i can increase system space for apps. Besides that any further suggestions to improve the speed and responsiveness, that can be achieved by rooting or otherwise?

Ya you are 100% correct device is laggy out of box because of unwanted bloats and scraps provided by lava as system application ...
Major problem I have seen in device is the default volume level in headset is not at all up to the mark and also the software is not good enough ...
Its clear the mentality of lava is only to push devices to market and achieve their business target. They r not bothered about customer support,updates,and GPL also...
You can refer this thread which I have provided some steps to make default ROM faster .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2875274
Removing unwanted apps listed by me will definitely help you to increase system memory along with lag reduction ..
I will post a SElinux enabled busybox so that we can enable SElinux. Like this.

Also you can try the Fly-On mod to optimise more once you have installed busybox and init.d support ...
I have contacted some of developers to compile CWM Recovery but it seems take a bit time to port it for breadcom chip set
Once this job is done I will be able to produce some custom ROMs as per our requirement .[emoji6]

2 : double click the launcher.bat file to start , type " ACCEPT " case sensitive without quotes to continue
check that the tool is reporting as either :
DEVICE STATUS: ADB-ONLINE
DEVICE STATUS: FASTBOOT-ONLINE
If " DEVICE STATUS: UNKNOWN " please check your cable connection and driver installation under Windows Device Manager
If " DEVICE STATUS: UNAUTHORIZED " please check if your devices is displaying an authorization prompt be sure to check Always allow from this computer and then press ok
3 : select the trigger to launch the Temporary CWM Recovery Session support fastboot oem triggers are :
T1 oem startftm ( very few devices support this command , but its the original used so )
devices supported : coming soon
T2 oem backup_factory ( limited devices support this command )
devices supported : coming soon
T3 oem stop_partitioning ( should work on alot of kitkat builds )
devices supported : coming soon
T4 oem stop_partitioning ( probably works on all devices that are supported (Jellybean , KitKat , Lollipop) )
devices supported : coming soon
4 : after selecting the trigger your device should reboot in to fastboot and begin to copy files to your device
note : if your device hangs at the waiting-for-device screen and you see droidboot CMD Waiting on your devices double check that the fastboot driver installed correctly.
note : if you see unknown oem command the trigger isn't supported by your device.
5 : The temporary cwm recovery session should be started at this point select install zip from the recovery menu using vol up / vol down to navigate and power to select
6 : select install zip from sdcard / external_sd depending on where you placed the file and select the UPDATE-SuperSU-vX.Xx.zip you downloaded earlier
7 : confirm the installation
8 : after install completes reboot your device
note :
some devices have limited space under /system and the supersu app wont install
if you don't see the supersu app on your device attempt to install it from the playstore
more than likely the su binary installed correctly but there want enough room on the device for the app.
This recovery uses the CWM Recovery @vampirefo built for the Dell Venue 8 3830 NoModem original thread : Dell Venue 8, CWM, unsecure boot/recovery
You know it's annoying to find this on so many other forums. with other people taking credit for it. sad face : (

Ahh!
Just my luck lol. Had a feeling I would end up bricked for some reason, maybe I jinxed myself.
Anyways... everything was going ok, I selected trigger 3 to try first, reboots to droidboot (with "waiting for fastboot command") then I select recovery and get android dude laying down with a red exclamation point coming out his belly and it just said "no command" now I am soft bricked, only getting the USB symbal with the white line under it. Please help!

recovery.fstab may or may not need to be edited for some devices especially if the device doesn't use by label partitioning. What device do you have?

asus aa3-600
I have an asus aa3-600-ur10
android 4.2.2
Intel Celeron J1850 Quad-core 2 GHz
21.5" Full HD (1920 x 1080) 16:9
Intel HD Graphics with Shared Memory
2 GB, DDR3 SDRAM
500 GB HDD
The problem I'm having is no usb debugging, only debugging via lan. I can get adb to work but not working with fastboot in the bootloader(droidboot). I have a post about it in this section, search for "aa3-600"

Hi, SDC
I know this has been ask before, I searched and couldn't find the answer though, I would like to get the source code for the launchers , I use the Linux version of this method, cause I don't have windows, and would like to convert the recovery.launcher triggers and so forth into a shell script rather that use binary file.
If you have a shell script already can you post it if not, can you post or give me a link to your binary files source code?

I'm going to post the source after I finish getting the thread put together I just wanted to get it up yesterday.
As for doing it through shell scripts the reason its binary is because if /system is mounted or any prebuilt binary has a dependency on a shared library it makes it extremely difficult some times impossible to stop services and unmount /system and such.
But I hope to have everything finish by the end of the day.

You use Linux or windows? If Linux, you may need to use my fastboot binary, anyway if using Linux while in fastboot mode use terminal type lsusb.
Do you see your device listed?

Root!
Thank you for this!
I successfully rooted my V8 3830 KK4.4 V1.33 no modem with T3 - in about 4 mins. tops.
FYI:
I connected and launched the launcher from the IntellAndroid-FBRL folder. Typed ACCEPT and got the green screen. Chose T3. The tablet rebooted into fastboot and files where loaded, But then fastboot turned red and said "device unauthorized" when CWM popped onto my tablet. (maybe it's suppose to do that, DK) and yes, US debugging was on, I flashed the SU zip, rebooted, all is well. SU updated and working fine. I was able to remove all the crapwear. :laugh:
thank you SDC!
Quick question - Do any of the intel devices have unlocked bootloader?? Thought I read somewhere somebody was able to install a factory 4.3 or 4.2 on a Dell venue and the bootloader unlocked?
