Does anyone know if you can completely remove blinkfeed with s-off ? - Verizon HTC One (M8)

Does anyone know if there is any way to completely remove blinkfeed from android 4.4.3 with s-off ?
I never use it and have it removed from my screens but blinkfeed if still using my computer resources and my battery power. I have tried freezing the htc blinkfeed app using rom toolbox lite and it will but everytime I do I can hit my home page button and it no longer works until I unfreeze the htc blinkfeed app.
I imagine there has to be a way of getting rid of blinkfeed completely instead of it draining my battery for nothing. I mean to me it totally useless and it would be nice if I could get rid of it as its just a parasite on my battery power.
Anyone have any idea on how to go about this ?
Right now I"am on viperone 2.5 with s-0ff and twrp 2.8.0.1 recovery.

Well, I can tell you part of your problem MIGHT (as in, I'm just a user) be that Blinkfeed is tied into the lock screen. If you go into \system\priv_app and rename HtcLockScreen.apk to anything else (just add .bak to it so you can reverse this if you want) and reboot, bam, AOSP lock screen. That's in Sense, in CleanROM as well as... I forget what the person who told me was running. Bones, Coin, Viper, I really don't know. Anyway, that's one less thing linking to Blinkfeed. Problem with that is, you lose the wake gestures. I reckon they're tied to the lock screen.
I am guessing Blinkfeed is pretty tied up in the Sense framework and your answer is basically no... but running Nova Prime I never see it. I use the swipe up gesture to bypass the lock screen, so I rarely see that (I enabled it back, I like my gestures). But even with Sense, I charge nightly (well daily, I'm a day sleeper) and I'm at 20-60% when I go to bed and charge. If I wanted to improve that, I wouldn't fight Blinkfeed in Sense, I'd run GPE (BRE or Sinless, they're both themed, there's really no pure GPE for us) or AOSP (LiquidSmooth is my favorite, but Cyanogen is leaner), but I ran LS for a week and got roughly the same battery life. There is room for improvement, but I'm guessing a lot of it involves kernel tuning.

The fact that Blinkfeed keeps using your battery and your home button quits working after you freeze it are both due to the same reason. Blinkfeed is the stock launcher. Only way to completely get rid of it is to install another launcher and then either freeze or uninstall Blinkered.
If you do install another one you might just want to freeze it for a while. Any launcher you use is going to use your battery (obviously). It might be the new launcher you install will use more than Blinkfeed. You'll have to be the judge of that.

Any recommendations on what launcher would be a good choice to replace it ? I have never done anything like that before, it might be worth a try worst case scenario is I have to dirty flash viperone 2.5 or I restore a back up after creating a new one before trying.

When I run ROMs other than Sense, I personally run APEX launcher, that is a good one, there is also Nova that people rave about.
you should find all the answers you need here: https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=best+android+3rd+party+launchers

Sense - How well can I 'hide' it?

Very tempted to get a HTC Ville when it comes out. Problem is it will run Sense 4.0 on top of ICS. Always have run vanilla. Played around with Sense enough to know I hate it, but never actually owned a Sense device so my knowledge of it is limited.
Question is, how well can I 'hide' it without rooting, since that won't be an option right away? I know I can do a lot by choosing alternates for the launcher, email, sms and contacts apps etc. but can I make Sense effectively unnoticable? Or does it permeate everything too deeply? And will Sense still be lurking around hogging system resources?
Sent from HTC G2
Yes you can make sense unnoticable to the eyes by using alternative launchers and widgets. But, the overlay will still be there sucking up resources and battery life.

That's wrong you can get something like absolute system control for root and deinstall sense that's what I did with touchwizz. There'll also be Rom's without sense.

But I won't be able to root until the Ville is cracked and reliable, daily-use ready vanilla ROMs are developed. I'm trying to figure out what I can do to trash Sense until then, without root.

No buddy, it was not wrong. Read the OP. He said without rooting. And with absolute system all you can do is uninstall widgets. Sense is still there. The only true way to get rid of it is root and flash an aosp ROM....not deleting some widgets.

Remove Touchwiz

ok i have looked online and i have seen that on other Samsung android phones you can remove touchwiz by installing a "stock" rom, but to me a stock rom is the one with Touchwiz.... can someone link me to a rom thats stable and doesnt have touchwiz....im new to this phone and been using the inspire 4g but the glass shattered...i understand i will have to root phone that i know but the roms for this phone nobody seems to post pictures of what they look like.
Best rom that's stable and most themed is Sky ice cream rom by Sean. GO flash it hands down the best rom in our dev forum.

thanks i just felt wierd coming from inspire thier development area has some really really good roms for that phone, came here and was just overwhelmed with the choices and none seemed to stand out among the crowd. Ill give it a go i just really really despise touchwiz ui and its the reason i normally stay away from sammy phones, that and the fact samsung is extremely slow to put out new os's on their phones if they ever do...got burnt on the Behold 2 never got my update cause they never put it out.
Yap its still young phone and we still have more roms compare to vivid and holiday combine. Once ICS comes than it will be different flashing game haha

So does the Sky ICS ROM have Touchwiz removed? You state it is themed... but never removed... I just ask because I am very curious about this phone, but depise the iPhone rip-off that touchwiz brings to android.
You won't see touchwiz unless you chose that launcher and if you don't chose that launcher than you won't see touch wiz. You got option there like ICS launcher and every other things like setting, contacts, and stuff is ics themed.

exactly, you don't need to root or flash a custom rom to get rid of Touchwiz. For example, download "Gingerbread Launcher" and set as default when it prompts you. Turns your phone into a vanilla gingerbread android phone and Touchwiz is gone. I use ADW Launcher Ex and set it to "Fast" preset. Phone absolutely flies and no sign of Touchwiz anywhere. Stock everything for me.
ive been having issues with ever single rom in here. my fav the nexusmod, facebook app doesnt work it makes me use the browser, a few others camera doesnt work or gps doesnt work. or its overclocked which makes the battery die faster. i just want a damn rom thats as basic as it can be but still have everything work... and only reason i hate touchwiz launcher is i dont use the email app and from what i read you cant remove it from that launcher bar.

Ok, so maybe I'm a bit thik in this smartphone thingie, sorry to post on S II.
I got an i9070 (SGSAdvanced) and I would like to remove Touchwiz, since I got APEX installed. Now... from what I gather here, Touchwiz is a different, more complex animal then APEX and basically can't/shouldn't be removed? If so, does it slow down my phonw, like say... a PC with 2 OS installed(e.g.: Windows7+Ubuntu)?
I got Titanium and RomManager too, all the free versions. I'll gladly pay full versions when I'll be a bit used to them, learning atm, same case with APEX. Altough I don't know what APEX full has extra yet.
Anyway. I thankd the people that answered already, hoping for a YES you can remove, NO, you can't remove, BUT you can make it so it doesn't draw resources, and THIS is the Dumbie link for doing that.
Wtf, you know this thread is a year old? No you can't remove touch and what does tibu and rom manager have to do with it?

For clarity, you can't remove it but, you're correct that, you can find roms that don't rely on tw.

I can't understand what you guys are saying about . Why he want to install a new rom ??? Just remove touchwiz using Root explorer like ES File editor and add a custom launcher like Nova . Is that the easy method ???

Hope you are doing well . Sorry if my question was wrong . I can't understand . Touchwiz is a launcher created by samsung for their devices .
Or is touchwiz a rom or kernal ? .I DELETED TOUCHWIZ FROM MY S DUOS . I am using nova launcher succesfully without any error .
Please describe me if my assumption about tochwiz was wrong.
Touchwiz consists of several pieces taking out the launcher is part of it but that doesn't remove touchwiz itself. Touchwiz is deeper than a launcher.

Any recommendations on how to "simplify" this phone?

The One S is my mom's first touchscreen/smartphone. She's having a hard time to getting used to the phone. Is there a way to simplify things? I'm planning on rooting it and maybe seeing if there's a stock ICS ROM because Sense is so crowded, way too many options laid out. It's horrible. I actually don't like it myself.
Hey,
you can root it and use the rom cleaner script (in the theme section).
The script will remove all the bloatware and useless sense stuff. Maybe that is what you are looking for?
Trickdroid with the tweakpack gives also the choice to remove a lot of unwanted stuff. (development section)
But the basic functionalty stays the same. You can also just try another Launcher (Like Apex) and look if this works better for her.
it's mainly the Sense dialer and Mobilife app that I want to get rid of.
The Sense dialer isn't very friendly compared to TouchPal and exDialer. But I'm not having her use those because clearing the call will bring her back to Sense's call history.
Mobilife just makes it difficult to keep track of contacts. She has over 300 and I'm syncing them with Google, sometimes a contact shows so many different values to change (mobile #, home #, address, etc). I'd rather have Google take care of this.

Well that's why sense is good. You can just start typing the name of the person instead of the number, and the contract entry comes up.
As far as simplifying it...why don't you just get ADW (or another launcher which lets you edit your screens) and delete all screens but 2 or even 1, if easier. Then put her only needed applications on the dock for her and then lock the screen (again this may be an ADW feature) so nothing moves and gets lost accidentally.... Then let her use it for awhile until she is comfortable, and gradually introduce her to more features as she is ready?

I know i'm newb but I've tried looking/searching and cant see anything labeled ROM CLEANER in the theme section, could someone point me in the right direction as I want rid of the bloat that HTC and Orange have put on, but without losing any of the functionality or stableness of the stock I have as I need my phone working and do not always have good access to the net or a computer for that matter.
Also any other suggestions or tips would also be appreciated as coming from an non tech background alot of this can be quite confusing ^^

You're right, the One S is one of the most advanced smartphones. It's also why I decided to get it to future proof her instead of a dumb phone for the same price.
I played around with exDialer and have decided that this dialer is the easiest app with easy to read colors (after applying the SGS2 theme). I'm actually using it myself. I will have to root her phone to get the dismiss missed calls to work, but that's no problem.

Does Sense still crash all the time on CleanRom?

Sense crashes on me constantly. I tried the fix suggested where you go unclick the activities setting in the development area, to no avail. Can any Cleanrom users tell me if this is problem for you (AT&T) after you rooted and installed CR on your phone?
What do you mean by crashing? Is it force closing or just reloading (get the loading circle)
If its reloading its because of HTC setting aggressive memory management.
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA Premium HD app
I could have worded that better - I mean to say that HTC sense, on my vanilla AT&T rom, goes down a lot, and when you press the home button, it says "loading" for upwards of 20 seconds.
I followed the instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1599214, however while this seems to fix it for some folks, it does not fix it for others. It's still happening to me, sadly.
I am considering returning this for a SGIII, but I got to wondering if I root it and install CleanRom, maybe that fixes the issue to, in addition to removing the AT&T bloat.

That would be the aggressive management that HTC put into the phone same reason that the browser reloads the page after you close it.
If you find a ROM that locks sense into the memory then it should solve that.
I only have the t3 hox so I can't recommend any for at&t

I got really frustrated yesterday - set up my screens and launcher and folders all nice, just the way I like them, nad Sense reloaded - all of a sudden, the screens I had removed were back, my icons were all over the place, and my folders were not on the home screen. Super frustrating!
Hold on, it actually goes back to default layout after reloading as well?

Almost - I had five screens again, my folders were all bumped to the last screen (so I had to move them back to the home screen before I could delete the extra screens), and a bunch of icons appeared out of nowhere, all over the place. So, it didn't go back to default but it did jack everything up.
It may be something that never comes up because most people do not remove all the extra screens.

I doubt you're going to get many replies from CleanROM users over here, since you've posted this in the international (Tegra 3) subforums and CleanROM is for S4 devices so no-one here will be using it. You'd probably get a better response asking here (or you could maybe ask a mod to shift the thread for you).

WHOOPS! Thank you for pointing it out to me!
Well hello Welcome to the correct forums xD
CleanROM has many multitasking improvements, from what I've read, so it should help quite a bit.
And if you still don't like the multitasking, AOSP based ROMs such as CM9 or AOKP have perfect multitasking (I've been able to get up to 7 apps running with AOKP)
CleanROM 4.1
Using the latest version of CleanROM on the AT&T One X, I have none of the issues that you speak of. Multitasking is night-and-day (granted that you flashed the multitasking mod in the AROMA installer), battery life is stellar, and everything is rock-solid stable.
I've never seen sense reload on me but I don't play games much. Are you a big gamer? I've been using clean rom since it was introduced.
I haven't had Sense reload on me once since flashing CleanROM a month and a half ago. I play a ton of RAM heavy games too like NOVA 3 and as I said, not once has it happened.
I mostly use the web on mine, Google Music, and a couple minor games like Words By Post and Temple Run. Thank you all for the replies, this makes me feel a bit more hopeful. I'm a bit anti-Samsung at the moment, so I am glad to hear that maybe flashing a ROM will fix my problems. I was pretty close to just returning it.

ICS...UGH Issues

I just upgraded to ICS. So far I am having a few really annoying usability issues. I was hoping someone might have ideas:
1. Things seem more laggy. Ive read enough posts about this to know I need to wait and see for a couple of days and then consider a reset.
2. Power Saving Widget - I am a heavy user of this widget. It fit very nicely on the homescreen before, and you could easily scroll through all the buttons when needed. Now its HUGE and I cannot fit it on my homescreen. Has anyone found a way to resize it?
3. My Direct Dial / DIrect Message Shortcuts. They all got wiped out. Now when I add them back to the homescreen they have annoying labels (like "mobile") across the faces of my contact pictures. Any way to remove them? No point in having the pictures when the word labels block them out completely anyway!
Are you on the official ics 4.04 room or a custom rom? Are you using the the original launcher or something like apex or nova?
If you long press the widget it should let you resize with 4 dots... I'm not using touchwiz so i may be wrong on that

For the battery widget, I'd recommend using Battery Widget by Elvision. Even puts the widget right in the status bar.

I went from stock GB to stock ICS. I totally agree with your assessment. What were they thinking on the power widget? The old one worked great, you could shift it sideways if you wanted to see the other controls. This half screen thing is crap.
Mine has been much more laggy and I have had TouchWiz force close a lot. Never had Touchwiz FC even once that with GB.
Overall seems like someone left my ice cream sandwitch out in the sun and the whole thing has turned into a mushy melty mess.

Instead of whining , work out your problems and learn how to troubleshoot..
1st,how did you install the stock ICS ?
2nd,did you do a proper wiping and cleaning before that ?
3rd,did you try a stock or custom recovery resets and wipe after the update ?

Instead of whining , work out your problems and learn how to troubleshoot..
1st,how did you install the stock ICS ?
2nd,did you do a proper wiping and cleaning before that ?
3rd,did you try a stock or custom recovery resets and wipe after the update ?

I'm usually pretty good at troubleshooting. Wondering how you know what troubleshooting I've already gone through?
1. Installed from stock GB to ICS via kies. GB was rooted but with stock recovery. Did not un-root before update.
2. Did clear cache before the Kies update. Removed several apps that are easy to reinstall. Didn't and don't want to have to do a factory reset. What else should I have cleaned?
3. After having issues, cleared cache again. Using stock recovery for now.
If you have any ideas how I should proceed, I'm all ears.
Seems wierd but if I have the "agenda" widget on a home screen, things get all flakey.
Thanks.

Thanks. That's already on my list of options, just at the bottom.. I don't want to start over with a "clean" phone if possible.

clean phone is nice, its not as sticky afterwards
to flash stock read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1652398
After the upgrade via Kies the camera on my Galaxy Skyrocked doesn’t work. There is only a message “unfortunately the camera has stopped” My phone has stock room and its not rooted.
Any advice will be welcome. Factory reset doesn’t fix the bug.
In all fairness, while this forum and its members are great exactly because they can give help like this, I dont think to get a functional OS on my phone I should need to be flashin, rooting or anything like that. Im still a novice and I am not comfortable doing those things. I did exactly as instructed by Samsung Kies and ended up with a phone whose functionality is below par and certainly below where it was. Its very frustrating.
I love all the suggestions, but at this point I just dont feel capable of doing some of these things.
Plus some of the things like the labels across people's faces on my Direct Dial shortcuts is just an ICS feature. Little things like those Direct Dial/Message photo shortcuts were such a cool part of Android, and now with labels across them there isnt even a point in having those pictures. Changes like this are very detrimental IMO, and I still have seen very little regarding the benefits/tradeoffs of the ICS platform...

I know your preference is to touch changes directly, but Let me just make a suggestion use apex launcher is so smooth. Todo manage your Power there are a ton of apps to manage example: battery booster, go powermaster.

Thanks I am open to trying another launcher. will check out apex.
I downloaded Power Controls which seems to be OK although I preferred the Gingerbread power widget more.
Now if I can just get the whole lagginess to go away...
If you want to stay on ICS just like GB you got to Root and freeze all att crap i use titanium backup. Also disable account sync información settings. I Tell you apex and nova are super smooth.

I was using ICS on my previous device the Nexus S , never rooted it and never needed to ... The same in SR there's a GREAT feature in ICS in which you can desable 90% of the crappy at&t bloat and silly Google apps (Google+ in my case) ... In addition to multilanguage support ICS is a sure great OS and a true leap aheah from GB
