I wanted to create a new dictionnary (japanese 4 kanjis) from the very good data base of stardict (http://stardict.sourceforge.net/Dictionaries.php).
I used Mdict to implement it on the pocket PC as it allows you to create your own dictionary. I will here expand/update the already available tutorial that is to be find inside Mdict converter.
So here we go, and it is all for free !
needed software : mdx builder
from : http://www.octopus-studio.com/download.en.htm (you will see that there are already some dictionaries that have been made)
Steps to convert Star dict dictionary files into mdx format:
1) download the dictionary files in tarbal format from http://stardict.sourceforge.net/Dictionaries.php
here we use 4JWORDS (4-kanji ideomatic expressions and proverbs)
from
http://stardict.sourceforge.net/Dictionaries_ja.php as example
2) extract the file into a temporary directory for example: c:\temp
There should be 3 files in c:\temp now:
4jword3.dict.dz
4jword3.idx
4jword3.ifo
4) copy the "convstar.exe" and "star_style.txt" into c:\temp too. You will find these files in mdxbuilder, convstar folder.
5) run command prompt (you will find it on windows XP on start/all programs/accessories)
command promp must show the path c:\temp> (because the files you want to convert are there)
then write : convstar 4jword3.ifo k2e.txt
You will obtain a new file in yuor temp folder named k2e.txt
6) Run MdxConvert, fill in these parameters:
Source: C:\temp\k2e.txt
Target: C:\temp\JMDict4k2e.mdx
Style: C:\temp\star_style.txt
Original Format: MDict(Compact HTML)
Encoding: UTF-8(Unicode) <---Must use UTF-8 for all stardict dictionaries
Title: JMDict japanese 4 kanjis to english
Description: <font size=5 color=red> japanese 4 kanjis to english</font>
don't touch the rest
7) Click Start
8) Done.
Note: Some dictionaries contains International phonetic alphabets(IPA) symbols, to display them correctly, you need to install true type fonts which support IPA, for example the Lucida Sans Unicode font in win98/2000/XP
( copy the windows\fonts\l_10646.ttf into PDAs \windows\ or \windows\fonts\, may need to soft reset your pocket pc)
Voila monsieur, it is done.
If, still, there is a dictionary you would like but you don't feel like you can do it, I can try to upload converted files here (if it is OK with Xda-developers).
Cheers !
Great! Will link your tutorial from my fgorthcoming, related article(version)s!
nice !
Thank you, I wil try to post more useful post on that subject !
cheers

Hi. I hope you are still around to see this request. I like WordNet and I see that WordNet is up to 2.1 while the one that is available is 2.0. I was wondering if you knew how to create the 2.1 database as the files are not quite the same as Stardict. Thanks.
ftp://ftp.cogsci.princeton.edu/pub/wordnet
Just want to say thanks to dam. Great tutorial, I have just converted the Britannica Concise Encyclopedia from stardict to mdict and it worked like a charm.
-=Ri/\xim=-
P.S. I think the MDXbuilder application has changed since you wrote this tutorial as there is now another input panel called "data" when building the database module. I left this empty since I didn't know what it meant and it made no difference at all.

Hello dam, thank you so much for the instructions, but I am having problems extracting the 4JWORDS file. In fact, I don't understand how to extract it. I have tried using WINZIP and a RAR extractor but all to no avail. All I have in my temp directory is the single file that I downloaded from sourceforge "stardict-4jword3-2.4.2.tar.bz2"
Can someone tell me how to extract the 4JWORDS file into the three files
4jword3.dict.dz
4jword3.idx
4jword3.ifo
Thank you so much for your help!

Hello Everyone,
Well, I managed to get the file properly extracted with 7-Zip and the I was able to create the k2e.txt file using the ConvStar application.
However, I have a problem now. When using the MdxBuilder application, the instructions say that I need to change the character encoding to UTF - 8 for converting stardict databases. Well, in my drop down box under encoding, I only have UTF - 16, ISO 8859-1, and GBK available. I don't have UTF - 8 available in the dropdown encoding box.
Will this cause a problem when converting the file?
I don't know if this will help or not, but on my computer I have Asian Languages turned on, and I often type in Chinese text.
Thanks for any help!
Scroll down, dude... then you'll find UTF-8
I was looking at the Star Dict website and found Word Net 3.0 in the database. I tried to use Convstar for the wordnet.ifo file, but found that the program was not able to open up the file. Is this program only meant for the Asian languages or is the program just unable to open this particular file? Thanks.
Didn't worked for me mate. Can You plz provide me the link for Wikipedia file of .Mdx, I wish if there is any updation to the database.
Hi,
You could try BVOCABULARY

Hi ppl,
I've collected all the tools I use to translate roms from our chefs (God bless them). I don't want to steal anyone's work so the most of the credit should go to the creator of the tools I've packed, so all but Muiver, 2bytecut, Go.bat that were made by me.
It should be easy for everyone to make a translation following these steps (it's easier to do than to read ...):
1) Download and install windows PROFESSIONAL image in your language (source language) from here
2) Download your preferred foreign language (destination language) ROM (i.e. TNT or OCATIVOI or whatever ... )
3) copy the images over microwave dir, go to the command prompt and run GO "your language image file" "foreign language nbf file":
4) Let it run ... When Muiver opens up, set the right languages, pick your preferred options and hit GO.
MuiVer automatically looks for the right directories in the MS dump and copies it over the image that needs to be translated, modifying some files and making things you don't have to care about. At this stage you only have to choose, based on your (future) experience, what you want to copy and what not. The options are : Mui directories (OS), Other Mui files (OEMapplications), Other non MUI files (other language related files like staticdict); The more you copy, the most will be translated, more problem you may experience (missing texts, or applications that goes blank screen).
I suggest to always copy the MUI directories and experiment with other options.
5) You're nearly done only have to edit initflashfiles.dat according to your language. This file contains the localized name of some system directories and especially the start menu and start menu items names.
When wincmp opens up you will see two child windows: the left one is the file you have to edit, The right pane c0ntains the initflashfiles localized for your language. Edit the left one, according to what you can see in the right one and then "save source" from File menu. Take big care to the name of the "startup" dir (i.e. in italian it must be changed in "Esecuzione automatica") otherwise your rom won't start the customization (no screen alignment, no initial settings .. etc etc..). I suggest not to change the name of the links in the appbutton section however.
6) When nb2nbf opens up, set everything like always (look at the picture) and hit "translate" button
Flash your new translated rom (tools included)
It's a beta, just test .. I am quite happy with it. I'll update the script to run with other devices.
DOWNLOAD links beta3:
Rapidshare Download link
Mediafire Download link
Fixed beta3:
- Added a new tool to speed up initflashfiles.dat editing
Fixed beta2:
- Before flashing move or delete manually the file nk-old.nbf or the Updater could reflash that one in place of the translated one
it is good post, even in microwave oven cooked!
I think it doesn't work with ROMs that is >= 5.2.1620 because the shellresapps.dll.xxx.mui is incompatible with older versions?
Would someone be kind enough to translate TauRho3i to English.

New tests shows that a very little number of .mui files (out of .mui dirs) are compatible with our WM6 releases ... for safe translations, do not copy them at all (MuiVer->File->options->Other Mui Files -> ignore all)
Hint: Take a look to the initFlashfiles.dat in the dump.src dir before editing the new one.

One quick question - Does it translate all content of the ROM, incl. OS and OEM applications? Or only OS, not for other applications in the ROM? Thanks?
it doesnt work with me i have downloaded all image file's from microsoft and when i instald it i get a pocket pc dir a tools dir a Images License txt file and a Images Readme file so i placed it all including the nbf file in the microwave dir and pressed go and a msdos screen flashes for about i mili second and then it does nothing did i do somthing wrong??
or can someone please explain me better
thanx
Danny
Can you explain a little more point number 5 and 6 plz?
I'm transalating from wwe to spanish thx.
It's my first attemp to do something with kitchens, etc...
Nice release pal.
Maybe I'm doing something wrong but is not working for me... That's what i did:
Downloaded from MS my localized image and installed it (I don't have the emulator installed, just the image).
Already downloaded my english ROM (in my case, TNT 5.0)
Did the GO stuff in this way "GO <localized-Image> <TNT5-ROM>
Then flashed the resultant ROM and it is still in English...
... What I did wrong?
Could you please post a detailed explanation (if it is possible with printscreens) about this process?
Sorry but I'm a little dumb using this one...
Regards and keep on doing this great job!

It basically translate the OS and some HTC applications, but due to the high number of versions around, it is safe to only transalte the OS part. I've experienced problems with some HTC applications not displaying properly after translations. So you better make some tests excluding or not some files / dir from Muiver. I'll try to release a more flexible Muiver soon
@danny de w
Open a DOS prompt and type "GO <name of the MS image>.bin nk.nbf"
@cesarr4
Did you move your old nk.nbf in a different place ? The script renames it in nk-old.nbf but this is sometimes not enough: the update utility will still pick the old one in place of the new one. The easiest solution is to move the nk-old.nbf away from the microwave dir.
@JouSePo and ALL
I am at work right now and can't take pictures, I will do a better explanation with images when I'll be at home later. By now I can try to explaint it better by words:
During the process some applications will pop-up asking you to do something:
- the first one is the MuiVer, that automatically looks for the right directories in the MS dump and copies it over the image that needs to be translated, modifying some files and making thinghs you don't have to care about. At this stage you only have to choose, based on your (future) experience, what you want to copy and what not. The more you copy, the most will be translated, but you may experience more problem (missing texts, or applications that goes blank screen).
- The second application is a notepad instance, opened on your initFlashfiles.dat. This file contains the localized name of some system directories and especially the start menu. I suggest you to take a look to the initflashfiles present in the microwave\dump.src dir that is the localized version for your language and change the one in the notepad accordingly. The only part that REALLY NEED to be changed is the name of the "startup" dir (i.e. in italian it must be changed in "Esecuzione automatica") otherwise your rom won't start the customization (no screen alignment, no initial settings .. etc etc..)
- At this point the script will have built the nk.nb file that must be translated in a nk.nbf file in order to be flashed. This is done with the last program that opens up : nb2nbf. You will find a set of row in the middle of the screen, check the first checkbox in the first line and in the box on the right pick the nk.nb file from the microwave dir. On the same line choose OS in the combobox on the right and then just click on the text box on the left. A number will appear, it is all ok. Now click on translate and you're done.
Nice printscreens smogdragon!
Thanks!
I have a question:
Which .BIN file should I use? The installed file from Microsoft extracted the following .BIN files:
PPC_ESN.BIN
PPC_ESN_GSM_QVGA_VR.BIN
PPC_ESN_GSM_SQUARE_VR.BIN
PPC_ESN_GSM_VGA_SQUARE_VR.BIN
PPC_ESN_GSM_VGA_VR.BIN
PPC_ESN_GSM_VR.BIN
All of them with same size... Which one should I use for my QTEK A9100 (Wizard)???
Thanks in advance!
In addition to my previous post, I'm getting the following error message when click on "GO" button at MUIVER program (see attachment).
What is going on? It doesn't happens when using Beta2 release.
@cesarr4
PPC_ESN_GSM_QVGA_VR.BIN is the best match with wizard's hardware.
As for the error, I've never seen that But I can see on the command prompt that you had a previous error "acces is denied". I would try to start clean, deleting dump and dump.src directories. Ah, be sure to have administration rights. Let me know
thanks for your prompt responses and your help.
I flashed the resultant rom to my Wizard and it is working fine but some issues arised with built-in apps. By example, the phone app doesn't start and built in software keyboard doesn't show up...
I was wondering if it is possible to extract the OS part from the MS image and pack it into a nk.nbf file and flash it (I mean, do not transkate a existing rom but using the OS inside the .bin file and flash it to the device)...
it is possible? what can be the side-effects doing that?
hello smogdragon
i tried using cmd and it work t for a little bit when i deed everything you said it say that it cant find this file cant find that file it cant find muiver nothing get recognized by cmd
but its all in the same dir and the image file too
Hi:
I've recently started to develop my own comic reader. The problem I've come up with is cbr files, which are esentially rar files. Now I know there are comic readers out there (all of them, I think) that support cbr files. So there is a way of doing this, I just can't find how.
In the rarlabs official page (search google rar addons and it's the first page) there are several options. I would like to know if I download the commandline arm unrar how I could install it on Android (I have a motorola Xoom, it would be for Honeycomb), assuming that is correct.
If this is not an option is there a command line unrar application that I could call from my own? and How would the code be (to call an external application, that is)?
If the above is not possible, what is the way to get to unrar something in android?
The only real option I've seen would be to use junrar (hosted on github)
But it seems complicated and I'm not sure it works very well as I've seen a lot of conflicting reports.
Thanks for any help!
Try http://www.all-freeware.com/results/rar/for/android to unpack rar on Android.
Success,
Senax
Hi:
I'm not exactly sure what you wanted me to try. There is nothing in that page that would allow me to uncompress a rar file on android. Only a bunch of unrar utitilities and some android things but they are not related, that is, there is nothing that says unrar that also works on android.
thanks anyway.

Hi:
It's seems that I didn't make myself clear.
I want to develop an android application that needs to unrar files. Is there a way to call the unrar application from my own code?
If so, can you tell me how?
Otherwise, I appreciate the effort, but I can't use that.
Thank you very much!
You can bring the unrar binary along in the /asset of your app,
on first launch copy it to your apps /file directory, chmod +x it, and use exec("sh") to unrar the files from shell.
oh, I see. I think I get the the idea but I don't understand all the instructions.
What did you mean by importing thebinary on my asset?
If I do the step above why do I need to copy the binary on first launch?
Don't I need root privileges too chmod it? And how do I do it from my source code?
And finally where can I find the command line use of the application? Or is it the same as the Linux version?
I know there are a lot of questions, but please keep in mind that I'm very new at doing this.
Thanks for all the help!
You need to put it as asset to bring it along.
You need to copy it because asset files are not directly accessable.
You don't need root to chmod the file in your own directory.
You do it by using a shell from your code i.e. Process.exec("sh")
And finally you want to program the app not me,
so don't be lazy and invest some time.
If there are still questions left after that, you may ask again .
Ok, I'll try it and get back to you!
Thanks!
Sorry for my lazyness, but I've been Googling for a good half hour without finding a simple 'unrar' binary executable compiled to run from terminal on rooted ARMx32 device. I don't want bloated GUI APK's or libraries for development implementation, but just the plain command line interface executable. Anyone, please? It's a pity they haven't baked it into Busybox as an applet, IMO.
I manage to run windows xp on our transformer using BOCHS app
Its work kinda slow but faster than i thought
Tutorial
1)Search on the web the SDL folder for BOCHS and the WIN XP img file (or download the SDL folder below)
2)Put the SDL folder in the tf101 main folder
3)Copy the img file to the SDL folder and and rename it to C.img
4)Run BOCHS and you done
5)Now u can create a folder named "HDD" in the root of your SDcard and transfer files there,
when u boot ur windows , all of ur files will be in D drive
Downloads
Here u can download BOCHS app and the SDL folder:

Edit1: I just managed to boot win7 .img. I editted bosch.txt and got this gem to work, also now I can use usb host to plug a mouse.
Edit2: April fool's
Edit3: Btw, no joke, managed to make a ".img" from a ".vhd" WinXP sp2 lite version, and made it run, you just need to edit bochs.txt to give more free ram. I always have 420~ free ram becouse im under ARHD, but with aosp you can manage to get more.
Lite version of windows is the best choice, no crap services (like printer) or unused programs (aka tools) runs pretty fast, keyboard works under .txt (PRETTY FAST! IF USING OC KERNEL)
Just download an iso, open virtual machine, install winxp and then backup the img as .vhd or .img
I'm trying to get the pad work, dunno if it's app limitation.
Can't post link, but if pm I can give winxp sp2 .vhd (no lite) so you can convert it to img under windows 7
-I'll try qemu, perhaps faster.
ALSO, win7 is impossible on tf101.
Wait for win8 that can run under ARM devices, with a boot manager we could simply boot under ubuntu, android or win8. Just be patient.
PS: For windows xp you must edit ips table to a value ~ 10000000
also, here you have cmds for the internal debugger

Stop asking for images of WinXP. This is a copyrighted OS and as such, if you don't have it, you cannot have it (unless you buy if, of course) or share it.
There have been multiple people requesting this in this thread. Next one to ask will get a vacation.
Hi all,
Now that we can build desktop applications on RT, I noticed that the x86_arm cross toolchain provided with VS2012 is missing a good number of lib files required for compiling applications. I wrote up this powershell script that will take a directory full of dlls as a parameter and convert them to .lib files... You'll need a working copy of VS2012 for this to work.
Hopefully someone finds this useful. Happy coding!
I updated the script to add explicit ordinals to the DEF file and also to correctly parse functions without an RVA (redirected functions)
updated to 1.2, fixes some files (like ws2_32) from duplicate ordinal error due to bad regex

Oh boy guess what this is:https://github.com/MakiseKurisu/WindowsRTLib
Would it be possible to use this for Windows 10 Iot Core on the Raspberry Pi? I want to start porting simple apps to make this OS feel a bit more like a desktop.
