I manage to run windows xp on our transformer using BOCHS app
Its work kinda slow but faster than i thought
Tutorial
1)Search on the web the SDL folder for BOCHS and the WIN XP img file (or download the SDL folder below)
2)Put the SDL folder in the tf101 main folder
3)Copy the img file to the SDL folder and and rename it to C.img
4)Run BOCHS and you done
5)Now u can create a folder named "HDD" in the root of your SDcard and transfer files there,
when u boot ur windows , all of ur files will be in D drive
Downloads
Here u can download BOCHS app and the SDL folder:

How likely is it to get actual windows programs (especially office) to work? Interesting finding for sure!

I'm willing to test this out on a Xoom. I'll update later on.

I'm getting my img, i'll update soon.
Edit1: I just managed to boot win7 .img. I editted bosch.txt and got this gem to work, also now I can use usb host to plug a mouse.
Edit2: April fool's
Edit3: Btw, no joke, managed to make a ".img" from a ".vhd" WinXP sp2 lite version, and made it run, you just need to edit bochs.txt to give more free ram. I always have 420~ free ram becouse im under ARHD, but with aosp you can manage to get more.
Lite version of windows is the best choice, no crap services (like printer) or unused programs (aka tools) runs pretty fast, keyboard works under .txt (PRETTY FAST! IF USING OC KERNEL)
Just download an iso, open virtual machine, install winxp and then backup the img as .vhd or .img
I'm trying to get the pad work, dunno if it's app limitation.
Can't post link, but if pm I can give winxp sp2 .vhd (no lite) so you can convert it to img under windows 7
-I'll try qemu, perhaps faster.
ALSO, win7 is impossible on tf101.
Wait for win8 that can run under ARM devices, with a boot manager we could simply boot under ubuntu, android or win8. Just be patient.
PS: For windows xp you must edit ips table to a value ~ 10000000
also, here you have cmds for the internal debugger

How fast is it? How long does it take to open any small program ?

I wonder if you can access internet or local file from inside android filesystem?
I am asking because i have small utility id like to run on WinXp so wonder how can i get it in there?
Tnx
Pretty cool, i wouldnt mind messing around with this and seeing what i can do.
Can you post the modified .txt file and xp img file please?
Or can you make a tutorial with all the steps?
I'm trying to run xp on the transformer since february.
Thanks
Mod Edit: No asking for img files of Microsoft OS' systems is allowed as this is warez

@ all,
Stop asking for images of WinXP. This is a copyrighted OS and as such, if you don't have it, you cannot have it (unless you buy if, of course) or share it.
There have been multiple people requesting this in this thread. Next one to ask will get a vacation.

so i finally took the plunge and have a fully working osx86 install on my pc.
how can i sign zips i create, in windows it was with one click of a program.
1st thing you do is:
Format your C: drive and remove that dreadful virus.
then you install an operating system such as Windows 7 64bit
from there I couldn't tell you, but at least it's a good start.
Nasty, nasty virus!

Ok, here is what you need to do. Download the two files I have attached. Uncompress both of them. Place the testsign.jar in your root directory IE: Macintosh HD or whatever yours is named.
Once you have that done you can move the Android-Sign app to your applications folder. I suggest dragging it to the dock to make a shortcut.
Go to the file structure you are trying to sign. Make sure the System and META-INF folders are intact and select them both. Right-click on the highlighted files and select "compress 2 items". This will create and Archive.zip in the current directory.
Drag the Archive.zip to the Android-Sign shortcut on the dock. It will automatically create a file named Archive-signed.zip. Rename the file to whatever you want and you should be good to go.
This is all I know about the signing process. I have only done this for a boot screen, so I wish you the best of luck.
This is at least the way it is done on a real Mac, not sure about your emulated install. Let me know how it goes.

Description:
Emulates Pentium PC for Android. It can run x86 OS.
It was compiled from stable relese 2.5 (11/27/11) with modifications for Android and my own implementation of sound output via SDL. It uses SDL(from mamaich).
It is slower than QEMU, but is rather stable so is preferable in case low requirements for HW.
Requirements: Android 2.2+.
How to install:
1. Install apk (attached)
2. Extract content of SDL.zip to /sdcard/SDL folder on your phone
3. Put hdd image to /sdcard/SDL folder and rename it to c.img (or modify bochsrc.txt)
Possible issues: The programm exits right after start and there is no bochsout.txt in /sdcard/SDL - check bochsrc.txt for errors:
-wrong path to images (check cAsE)
-bad symbols were added to file
If you have bochsout.txt after start, then it should contain description for the issue. In most cases it is unsupported format of disk image
Control:
- It emulate touchpad on touchscreen and left/right mouse buttons on volume
You can also click touch screen to generate mouse left button click.
- Back = BackSpace, Menu = Enter, left-upper corner click generates TAB
- left-lower corner click popups keyboard
Additional features:
- (warning it is experimental so can damage you file system) direct access to NAND of your phone
modify bochsrc.txt the next way
ata0-slave: type=disk, mode=vvfat, path=/sdcard/HDD, journal=vvfat.redolog
where HDD - folder in /sdcard root
- Sound support via SDL
modify bochsrc.txt:
sb16: wavemode=1, dmatimer=500000
OS should have installed SB16 drivers
example of bochsrc.txt is attached
I've got a problem, cause when I wanna to start system i have No bootable media.
And there is a second problem, I can't mount cdrom.

Windows XP SP3 Fundamentals
Dear geeks,
Finally, Windows XP SP3 Fundamentals is running under Android Bochs. It is very very stable. Works great with mouse and Windows XP On-screen Keyboard. The only problem on 500 Mhz processor in HTC - takes 1,5 hours to start. And very slow. Fast mobile required.

how to prepare img file
Not difficult actually. You need to use Bochs Disk Image Creation Tool. For XP SP3 at least 1500 Mb must be allocated. You need to install Fundamentals on real PC (otherwise you wount type ctrl+alt+del on first logon, and wount change display resolution to 640p), then transfer image file to android.
Yesterday tryed Microsoft Office 2003 - works extremely slow.

The compressed image is 1.1 Gb. It includes bootable Windows XP Fundamendals Service Pack 3. I will attache also src text file with pc configuration. It is compatible for both PC and Android. Windows boots full color display 640*460 interlace drop till 320*240, 80 Mb RAM allocated, so it is still 40-50 avaliable for common Android applications. XP recognizes Pentium 4 processor operating at 7 Mhz. The forum limitations doesnt allow attaching that big files. If someone can give me an ftp or whatever like that and publish a link for everyone, i can provide files.

I'm pretty sure that that when I installed eclipse I used WinRar, however 7zip or winzip should work, what kind of error are you getting when you try to extract the files?
have you downloaded it succesfully ?
still no success. I gave up on it... But want to get it! It says something like unkown file type or damaged.... I'm downloading it from eclipse.org eclipse basic... windows 64 bit.... I dont understand why it wont open...
Got everything downloaded now just can't add Android sdk to eclipse..... :/

If it doesn't unzip eclipse it's probably because the file is corrupted, try re-downloading it

What error message do you get? Also make sure you have the appropriate Java version installed (At times I've noticed problems with apps linked to 32-bit libraries, opened with 64-bit Java or vice versa). Although I think it should have both installed in Windows 64-bit.
I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I have a similar thread. The error is either
1) org.eclipse.ui 3.6.2 error
(When using eclipse indigo)
2) org.wst.sse.core 0.0 error
(When using eclipse Helios)
I will have to look at error. Its after Tron to add it. Hit next next then your suppossedto hit accept and it don't.... And I really wanna get this lined out.been Tryin since..... Last week?

not sure if this is strictly related to the problem of the OP, but after I downloaded Eclispe it would not unzip correctly. It failed on about 14 files.
After looking around, i found it was a path length problem (Windows has a path length folders+filename restriction) and the Eclipse developers know this but still make their paths quite long, since ver 3.5 or something like that.
The way i got around it was very simple: move the zip file to your root folder (eg c:\) then unzip it. You won't have all the extra folders in the unzip path that doing it on the desktop, for example, would have.
Hello sir,
please can anyone help me to install DSL (which stands for DAMN SMALL LINUX)/XP/win98/win95)'s .iso file into a .img file (which is a virtual hard disk flat .img file). I just wanted to run DSL/XP on my android ICS tablet using 'bochs'.
Here i am following the foot print of tutorial about install windows xp and run into android http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1465365.html
firstly I am using DSL's .iso intead of windows xp's iso,
I created .img file of 1gb using bximage.exe succesfully,
in qemu manager- created new virtual machine,
into cdrom I put dsl.iso, and into hard disk0 I putted c.img which I created with bximages.exe.
click green run button and DSL insttaled/running fine, but when I check back c.img file to copy into my android, crap... it is unused/untouch by qemu maneger as befor it was. what is the problem with qemu manage that it is not installing the os into c.img file ???
why c.img file is untouched yarrr even when I selected the c.img as hd0 why it's not writting OS into the virtual hard disk image file.
please give me answer as fast as it can be give. I am just crazy about to run other os's on my android tablet
well firstly I'll use DSL and after that XP etc.
hope someone will help me. :'( please explain
Hello,
I am currently playing with MS ADK for ARM and creating nice install.wim with my specific drivers etc.
However the goal is to create WinRT v8-0 custom image and I miss two files needed (Czech language pack for WinRT v8-0 (CAB) and Off RT 2013 (EXE)).
I have WinRT v8-1 and don't want to downgrade currently, so I am asking if somebody kind with WinRT v8-0 is able to provide me those two files.
Here is the procudure to get them:
1. Temporarily move out everything from "\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download" to speed up the searching for files.
2. Temporarily add new Czech language.
3. Click "download language pack".
4. Wait for download phase to finish
5. From path like: "\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\123456789012345678901234567890ab\lp.cab" (number-hash will be different) retrieve the CAB (about 10-15MB)
6. From path like: "\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\123456789012345678901234567890ab\singlelanguagepackhsplus.exe" or (I am not exactly sure here) path like "\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\098765432109876543210987654321fe (no extension here - the number-hash is renamed EXE file not directory") please retrieve the EXE (maybe without extension) (about 60MB)
7. Uninstall LngPack, delete the added Lng and copy back your files to "\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download".
8. Put those two files (lp.cab and singlelanguagepackhsplus.exe or "098765432109876543210987654321fe" (no extension)) somewhere where I can download them.
Is there anybody, who will do it for me? Thanks.
It is even worth for some small Paypal gift.
Hey,
I have the surface Windows 8.0 RT image on my ftp server but do not have the surface itself. You can expand the wim and grab the files you need. PM me for the ftp link.
I have a Microsoft Surface RT running Windows 8.0 and I was able to obtain the files you want. Let me know where to send them.
