Hello,
So, I am very interested in this phone after getting and after getting dinked around with my current carrier ( bell ) I want to buy a phone outright and play the field month to month wise between carriers ( only bell and rogers ) with that being said I am looking online to import as my S4 has pretty much kicked the bucket... any word on which one will be able to run both carriers ? I know both have LTE but not sure which one supports the most bands.
D6603 supports most bands. Google "Xperia 3 whitepaper" and check list.
6603
If you can wait another week or two it's going to be officially announced for Canada.

Hello xda-users:
I'm going to japan for vacations and I'm thinking to buy a phone there, I read that you need to buy the phone with a contract ? and the phone might not work overseas.
Also I heard that the phones are really expensive.
Any help in this matter wil be appreciatte
I´ve just heard that the phones will not work outside of japan as they use a different signal frequency...
Softbank or NTT Docomo just announced a bunch of new phones, which include the Toshiba TG-01 and the HTC favorites. The only problem being that you need a gaijin card to get them and some other requirements (a contract too). You'll probably know more once you get there.
You can rent a phone and they do use 2100 Mhz UMTS/HSDPA, but I don't know if an unlocked non-JP phone will work there with a rental phone's SIM.
I was wondering if the play store will sell the D821 version on launch date along with the US market version D820.
My carrier uses LTE band 7, which means D821 is my only option.
It's like when the Nexus S came out. There was an US version with 3G freq, and then there was a Canada version with different 3G freq.
Any of you remember how it went for the Nexus S ?
I bought the canadian version of the NS on ebay to have it work with my carrier.
Thanks.

With the way the Play Store automatically region locks (and with no option to manually change regions), I doubt any Nexus 5 model will be sold outside of its intended market.

Does that mean that you can't use the Nexus 5 outside the USA?
I am in Panama, and I had planned to buy the Nexus 5 and bring it into the country with me. I used the GT-I9505 and I9300 here, so I'd like to know before I waste my money, if this is the case.
I assumed it would be functional on any GSM network.

Oh, the GSM bands are the same on both models, it's just the LTE bands that are region-specific. D820 for the US, D821 for pretty much everywhere else it's sold.

We don't have LTE here. Only HSPA+
That's all I need then, right?

Are you sure about this, I have never heard Google doing this and it would defeats the purpose of a Nexus. I owned every Nexus phone up to the 4 and they all work internationally. The device might not support all the frequencies, but they are fully unlocked and work anywhere.

Did you buy all of them from the play store?
If so, did you buy them on release date?

I could be wrong though, but I bought mine either from online retaii, Nexus S from Newegg and GNex imported from Expansys, and a few 2nd hand versions which included Playstore version. The Nexus 4 was the first PlayStore version I bought, but I haven't bring it on international trips yet. I really don't think Google does this though since its not the point of the Nexus and I couldnt find any info on it online, it is possible some Nexus devices are released by specific carriers and gets region locked that way. However, I do know Google region lock their apps.
I only heard of Samsung doing region lock recently with their Note 3.

I do not mean that the phone is region locked. It is not. The Play Store itself is highly region specific. e.g. If you want to buy the Nexus 4 Charging Orb, that is not available from the UK Play Store. If nyou wanted to order it from the US Play Store, you cannot simply change a dropdown box from 'UK' to 'US', you have to (1) use a US-based proxy server (2) use a US-addressed credit/debit card (3) deliver to a US address.
According to the service manual, the GSM bands supported by both Nexus 5 models (D820, D821) are identical.
The difference is in the LTE band support. The D820 will work on LTE in the US, and D821 will work on LTE for EMEA, and there doesn't appear to be a far-eastern model (or at least, one has not leaked yet). It would be silly for Google to sell the D821 outside of the US, as the LTE bands would not be compatible with local networks (even though regular voice calling would work just fine).
are there any branded nexus models or are they all unbranded no matter what network they come on?
also i hear hangouts is massively annoying being the sms app. will installing the 4.3 sms app work?

Google Play Store selling 2 unbranded variants - one for the Americas and one for the rest of the planet (Euro & Asia) due to bands used by carriers, that's far less than the iOS products sold for their eco systems. And, both are unlocked - there are unconfirmed rumors that those sold directly by Sprint (with CDMA/LTE bands) might - MIGHT - have extra bloats loaded as they resell them with a highly marked up price for postpaid contract customers.
Otherwise, mine came from Google directly and running T-Mobile USA sim, and there is nothing else on it.

I have a Sprint Nexus 4 on T-mobile. Same exact phone. Same model number, same build number, and 100% factory unlocked with ZERO bloat. So that rumor is confirmed. I also got best buy to price match the play store price.
so hopefully it won't matter what network i go on, the phone should be bloatware free?
do you have any regrets getting it?

You wont. I bet it will be released as a Driod Turbo 2 in the USA.
Wait a few weeks it might pop up on unofficial sellers on ebay etc.

You might be able to get it from a Canadian retailer?
Yes, I just didn't know if I would need to go through a proxy to be able to order it. And I didn't know what they would say about the "ship to" being American.
Droid Turbo 2 will be a higher end phone. Perhaps it will have the same form factor with the processor power of the X Style / X Pure, a big battery and wireless charging. Everything the X Pure should be but wrapped in a hideous Droid skin.
In the same boat, was looking online at how to order and then ship to the US. There are certain services where you can "rent" a canadian address and then they will forward your mail to you - but by the time you pay the set-up fee and the forwarding fee, it seems overly costly. I did also try to order directly through Telus, but they require a Canadian address to ship to.
Anyone have any other ideas?
Mexico and Brazil Moto X Play variants are the same as the Canadian (XT1563). So we just need to figure out how to get one from any of these countries. I'm coming up empty though.
Wait for it to turn up on Amazon Canada and then just ship it to the US as Amazon Canada do ship to the US by the looks of it.

Using this now in Brazil. Coming from the Verizon Note 3 and Nexus 7 2013 and I'll say it's a decent phone but hardly spectacular (the screen in particular) if you are used to USA flagship phones. However it's nice to have two sim slots and an fm radio which are features almost unheard of in the States. Lollipop 5.1.1 is nice too!
Is the 1563 exactly the same in Brazil, Mexico and Canada in regards to LTE bands supported? There is a "BR apps" package on my phone, presumably exclusive to Brazil but I'm wondering if this is otherwise exactly the same as any other 1563.

According to Motorola's site, it's exactly the same for LTE bands.
Who did you buy it from in Brazil?
just a heads up, The Canadian Bell Version is locked to Bell! I tried my Rogers Sim and it wouldn't work, so you'll have to buy a Canadian version, then pay to get it unlocked. It's only available through the carriers in Canada. You cannot buy a retail\unlocked version, they're all only available thought carriers and locked to that carrier.

Thats a bit crap innit. I think for once we are lucky in the UK. We get both the Style and Play unlocked and Carrier free.
It will turn up on Ebay or Amazon carrier free eventually but could be a bit of a wait.

Bought from a Motorola kiosk in a mall for 1499BRL, which is $428 USD approx. 32 gb edition. Incidentally I noticed they had already sold out of them when I passed by there yesterday.
Possibly regretting this purchase as LTE band 13 is not available for Verizon, but will be available on the US edition of the Style ("Moto X Pure Edition") coming this Fall. Argh. I definitely like having two sims in one phone however.
Aside note, the new 3rd gen Moto G has a version here in Brazil that sports live TV and an antenna that allows FM radio listening without earphones. Why the heck can't we have those things in the U.S.! I digress.
I know one of the Canadian retailers told me that they feel like people will soon buy it with the unlocking fee (50), unlock it so any carrier in the US can use it and resell for a high value on eBay. :/. I know there is a way as long as you can get someone to buy it for you located in Canada! If anyone was looking to get one- feel free to message me! Would love to help someone out =)
Normally unlock codes turn up on ebay for a few Pounds here in the UK. I unlocked my brothers M8 for £2.50 by buying an unlock code from an ebayer.
It was easy ... I emailed IMEI number to the seller ... he then gave me a code. I placed a sim card (none carrier) then phone prompted me to put the code. Once I entered th code ... voila my brother had an unlocked phone.

$50 to unlock a phone seems pretty steep. if motorola doesn't play any games, unlock codes can be had for cheap on ebay.
ok i am setting up to order from sasktel wireless in canada. I work in logistics and have my warehouse their set to receive any phone i buy. I am setting up an account with sasktel and i will be buying a phone from them first. it is locked to sasktel but unlock codes could be had. Anyone interested in getting a phone aswell from canada? 16gb versions only but have sd support
with shipping to the lower 48 states we are probably looking at around $500 to import the phone total. Let me know if anyone is interested i will see if i can set it up
Has anyone in the US got a Canadian moto x play and can confirm at it works on att or straight talk? Also just wondering how much would I be looking at paying for the moto x play to get it shipped to the US? Thanks

When that happens it's usually because they don't have the imei in there system. Call them and give it to them so they can setup everything. Happened to me on att with my LGG4 from overseas

I'm planning on pre-ordering the phone very soon, but have one question: will it work in America? I'm going to Florida - for 2 weeks - in December and while the phone won't have any issues with cellular bands in UK, I'm not sure if this can be said in America.
Possible carries are Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile. Can someone answer this for me, so I won't have to worry about getting a budget phone just for the trip there?
Hi
I can suggest you should go into the link and i will hope you will get your answer .here is the link(http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Unlocked-International-Warranty-Original/dp/B00AXXOXKW ) . Thank you
